His notion about cinema being the working man's art form rings so true, and I've realized that's why he's my favorite director. He doesn't make movies for film snobs, critics or the intellectual elite. He makes movies for the PEOPLE. I wholeheartedly agree. Mainly because I just love the expression of imagery and in depth thought, while actors definitely have personality but leave it very purposefully at surface level. Especially getting all of these visionary's together that literally reshaped film, it's absolutely incredible!
Anahí García Thats because a lot of directors write and create the memorable characters we love dearly. The actors are just puppets that play those characters.
@@musicisfree91 Don't you get humor? Or are you trying to display that you know better than me or others here? Lighten up a bit, musicfree91, and be a bit more free like your Id suggest.
Actually that would be so much more interesting, to hear the directors ask each other questions, let them even do a little bit of coke beforehand too, and no goddamn time limit, THAT I could watch for days.
Funny thing is that Tarantino almost comes off like the most knowledgeable and passionate of the bunch. His observations are very interesting. He is the least sophisticated or proper, for lack of a better word, of them all, but it is obvious the dude is a genius when it comes to filmmaking.
PiCheZvara lol tarantino is the second least talented of all the bunch. The man is all style no substance and literally steals in every one of his movies. Scott followed by innaritu are the most talented
all style no substance? you obviously have never seen a tarantino film if you make comments like that....django unchained didn't have substance? kill bill didnt have substance? and by the way quentin REVOLUTIONIZED style through his films...nobody makes movies that look like quentin's cinematically.
itsthehouse! Please tell me the substance of kill bill and django. They are b movies with simple revenge plots. Characters are two dimensional and as for style like i said tarentino literally rips off shots from older films. Revisor dogs is a rip off of city on fire, kill bill is a rip off of lady snowblood etc. also the man cant write a straight narrative to save his life. He cuts up his movies into chapters because he simply cant find a way to pace a movie properly. The only movie of his (and his best) that does that is jackie brown and thats because its based on someone elses material. Tarantino is the definition of all style no substance
No, you guys don’t understand - Tarantino critiqued Prometheus publicly, calling certain story parts silly. Ridley knows that, it is the Elephant in the Room...
I love how Danny Boyle actually pays attention and listens to the other guys' stories, always laughing and joyful, almost not talking, while some of them come off as a bit self-centred. That's probably part of the reason why he's such a great versatile filmmaker.
+Senior Adrian Sure, I just mean he looks pretty happy and enjoying the talk, while some of them just seemed like they were always just thinking about the next thing to say about themselves. Ridley: Praised by all as the master on the table, takes that elegantly. Quentin: He's a character, a nerd, he can say whatever and he gets forgiveness. Alejandro: Most passionate of all, a joy to watch. Danny: So nice and gentle, always very attentive to everyone's stories, but giving some nice contributions when asked. Seemed like the nicest one to hang out with. Tom: My least favourite, didn't talk much anyway. David: Really passionate about it all, he seems like a real hard worker and gets the results of that.
+hfanti not to mention he directed the Olympics opening ceremony. He's really versatile and can work with anything, that's why he's my favourite director.
+Muzzafar Tajuden Man, he's got space, zombies, kids, drugs, almost bollywood, james franco talking to himself, and always knocking it out of the park! And he can pick a soundtrack, that's for sure. ;)
I've been lucky enough to work on sets with Danny Boyle and Ridley Scott and they're both awesome. Danny actually took my advice for a scene coming up in Pistol. Proud moment.
He looks the lost son of Cameron, not Wes Anderson. Also Hooper looks sometimes unexpressive, distant like saying:"What am I doing here meeting with these guys?

Rajveer Dhanak These men were interrupting each other, its part of having a discussion, you people who are butthurt have never had a discussion with other human being in your life.
I know this has been edited but the interviewer really killed the rhythm on a couple of questions. The “did you ever want to give up” just murdered was turning out to be a really great insight into some of the practical challenges of making these films.
I would love to read books by Tarantino on the history of the industry, the processes of filmmaking, etc. He's so knowledgeable, it'd be great to be able to learn from him outside of what can be picked up in interviews and from his films
the revenant for me was a masterpiece...its the first film because of the locations where it was shot physically made me feel cold..a fantastic story aswell.
I Have heard so many times that he is one of the nicest people ever. Even during a shooting. He is so in harmony with himself. At least that's what I percieve from him. Plus he is my favorite director.
Yesssss! Haha i loved that too. Its something you can't help when you're speaking so passionately about something in another language, I totally get him. 💖
His first movie ever Amores perros lost the Oscar to crouching tiger hidden dragon and Babel should of been his second Oscar in my opinion but it didn't got it both of those movies deserved the Oscar , but the oscars in the end don't mean anything the real winners are the studios that pay the critics and judges to choose the film for best picture best performance etc.... Not all the time but sometimes in a way it's the way it works look it up if you don't believe me. And just because a director has won academy's oscars or any prize doesn't back up they're good in. And my comment was meant to hint the obvious that he is not underrated which means he is a Big director now that has made a legacy of films and will continue and leaves a mark in each of films unlike when he started in Mexico because he was an activist and radio host for a long time but the studios in Mexico didn't want to support his career so he moved to Europe and from there he made his movies here hints the fact he is not underrated
Isaac Splinker damn now that's a bigger answer than I wanted to read but ok, Babel was basically Amores Perros with a bigger budget, not complaining I loved both but I honestly think The Departed to be a superior film. Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon is a remarkable film that accomplished way more cinematically and culturally than Amores Perros, again I loved Amores Perros and consider Iñarritú to be an inspiration, me being in film and also being a mexican. But I couldn't disagree more with calling him "underrated" the man made movies that won Academy Awards back to back, and pretty much everyone in Hollywood agrees that if Alejandro is working on a new movie they'd die to be in it. Don't really care about award ceremonies but Academy Awards translate to viewers, then money and then studio appreciation and at the moment I believe Iñarritú to be one of the most valuable directors alive.
+Isaac Splinker Amores Perros is a great story, but to be honest I kinda like y tu mama también better. It's more subtle, but both represent different faces of Mexico and that's cool.
I often come back to this interview just to experience the passion and love for film that David O. Russell and Alejandro both have. You can really feel why they feel through the screen.
I don't want to be one of those guys who criticizes the host but this guy is just infuriating. He asks them a question, they answer but he doesn't follow it up, he cuts them off. Plus his line of questioning is random, why is he asking them if there's anything they feel guilty about. Very peculiar style.
Chris Jame, in a case like that, it's best to listen to the responses than to the interviewer's question. You'll have a better experience and learn a lot, by focus your time on what you don't like.
I agree he is annoying, but Directors are kind of known for rambling on a single topic for a while, so if he wasn't so obstructive and subject changing I literally think the entire hour would be just discussing a single topic and going into great depth on that single topic and I think they want to get through many random questions to keep things light and flowy.
I just love the fact that Quentin picked a Jackie Chan film for the alien races to watch! Just the fact that the others laughed at that option makes Quentin the best director on that table.
Mugsey B So true ... Tarantino truly lives & breathes movies! A natural if ever there was one! Hope he goes back on his decision & does get behind the camera again!
So happy to see Wallace and Gromit mentioned in front of tarantino. We'd all love to see a collaboration between Tarantino and Nick Park. Morph unchained, or Reservoir Gromit.
If I had the privilege to talk to all these great directors, I would never cut them off and move on to other questions. These guys were speaking so freely and passionately and the annoying host cut them off way too much.
I understand that the host has to steer the converation, but fuck me is it annoying. Why not just let these guys go for it, let them finish their points, then change the topic. Have a shorter interview like this, then have the full unedited version. Then again i could happily listen to these guys all day.
+BRG 0001 He's the worst. After years of doing these roundtables, he still cuts people off and hardly ever let's people finish. The ego of Stephen Galloway..

His notion about cinema being the working man's art form rings so true, and I've realized that's why he's my favorite director. He doesn't make movies for film snobs, critics or the intellectual elite. He makes movies for the PEOPLE. For your average Joe working a 9 to 5 job, for the high school dropouts who sell dope to get by, for underpaid nurses and high-paid lawyers alike. Basically for anyone and everyone.
You don't need a fancy degree to appreciate his work. In fact your probably better off without it judging by the disparity between the critics score and audience score for his movies. His whole legacy is basically a big middle finger to cultural elitism.

all style no substance? you obviously have never seen a tarantino film if you make comments like that....django unchained didn't have substance? kill bill didnt have substance? and by the way quentin REVOLUTIONIZED style through his films...nobody makes movies that look like quentin's cinematically.
itsthehouse! Iñarritu is an underrated Genius
Underrated with two oscars? How the fuck?
Don't really care about award ceremonies but Academy Awards translate to viewers, then money and then studio appreciation and at the moment I believe Iñarritú to be one of the most valuable directors alive.
probably the hottest director in the world right now and you say he's underrated, lmao

Chris Jame, in a case like that, it's best to listen to the responses than to the interviewer's question. You'll have a better experience and learn a lot, by focus your time on what you don't like.
I actually thought it was quick editing - the abrupt changes in direction of questions.
