I took issue with the Interview(ers) that hosted the "THR Actors Roundtable" interview, for not controling the feel, momentum and mood of the segment, but I must say, this Roundtable is much, much better, and I am all about calling it like it is, and giving credit, where credit is due.. and the Host/Interview(ers) of this episode, did a good job.
The thing that makes Mark Wahlberg great. From a street hustler, to pop rapper, to an underwear model, to an A-List actor, and now along with a group of top-notch producers. And he's a family man too. Oh yes, the wahlburgers. Amazing man. Those hard days growing up must've been the best life lessons he had, which made him the man he is today.
dude can't act. he isn't great. his acting is wooden and lacks depth and believability. dude needs to check his overinflated ego! he is a now over indulged white male actor over 40. if he was a women he would not have had such opportunities especially because of the bad acting. # hack
ifembot Yeah, I mean take someone like Melissa McCarthy, a fat, unattractive, overindulged white female actor over 40, of supremely modest talents (loved her in Bridesmaids but she can't carry a film no how). She doesn't stand a chance of getting roles. Wait. What? One of the things you're missing is that men in general age better than women. Marky Mark looks pretty much the way he did ten or fifteen years ago. Sandra Bullock is still getting plum roles because she's still more or less as attractive as she was ten or fifteen years ago. You think it's sexism (or something), when in fact it's sex. Its why ten years ago George Clooney was a huge star and now he's just another A-lister. If women aged the way men do (a lot of why they don't is 1. muscle mass, 2. women pay a huge biological price for the ability to bear children. Their prime years are front-loaded, so to speak), there would be a lot more juicy roles for women in their 40s. --Here's an interesting, serious question for you: *You seem to think Hollywood discriminates against women over 40. Why do you believe that is the case?*
so you name 1, an exception to the rule [if you are a woman, esp. a person of color; overweight then you will not have the same equal opportunities as a white male of any age] and think you've proven you point? it is a known fact that anyone not white and male will have a hard time getting substantial roles due to sexism, ageism and racism. [seth rogan even said that if he was a woman he wouldn't have a job in hollywood.] you proved your sexist beliefs, by saying women age worse than men [which is an opinion] you bought into the whole women regardless of age need to look like a barbie and men can look like george costanza... society told you that, reinforced it and now you eat it up. congratulations on being a sheep. like i said hollywood power positions are run by men for men. the majority of directors are men. the majority of studios are headed by men, the majority of lead roles go to men. The majority of the actors in lead roles are close or in their 40s+ and have love interests/costars in their 20s. [preferably white, thin, and a bad archetype of what they think women should be] these hollywood big wigs set this up ions ago, reinforced it until it sold big time and now continue to regurgitate it all the way to the bank. [see Knocked up] please do not come back to me with a handful of out liars to disprove me as there are tons of articles and actress testimonials to back this up.
I love what David Heyman said about Emma Watson's continuation with her Harry Potter character. I remembered Alfonso Cuaron asked the three main leads to write how they would like to grow with their characters through the series once starting Prisoner Of Azkaban, the third installment. Emma writing like an essay like! To note: amazing how all three had turned out after finishing on Deathly Hallows Pt. 2
I don't think Wahlberg offered much to the discussion here; although, I do think having an actor's perspective is important...I'd swap him for Clooney. But then the Three Kings question may have been a bit tense.
I wish you had asked Roven if there was a pressure from studio to have Joker for the third one or want one more movie? If so how they handled it? I wish it was asked about casting 12Years a Slave, because that has the best cast ensemble of the year.
LOL...at 12:26 a producer says "keep your head down", and there is a mysterious floating head in the upper right corner of the screen. Just thought that was funny.
The women need to speak up more! However, I do wish you guys got smaller budget independent producers for films like FRUITVALE STATION & DALLAS BUYERS CLUB.
I've thought since I first saw the trailer what a mistake so much of the audio was on Gravity. Listening to Sandra Bullock's amateurish huffing and gasping and whinging against that extraordinary backdrop was just a jarring, unfortunate experience. The replay of a clip around 38m just reminded me of the miscasting, poor sound choices, and other problems that plagued what could have been a brilliant work.
Crazy to think that a masterpiece like Boogie Nights was in danger of going straight to DVD for such a dumb reason. Of course generic mall test screen audiences wouldn't get a movie like that! I'm imagining an audience of soccer moms.
These Roundtable interviews are exceptional, can you please do one with Production Designers?

Love it. I'm not a Mark Wahlberg fan and I don't think I ever will be but it was interesting to have an actor in this mix.

This is one of the most comfortable roundtables to watch. The directors ones inparticular have a steely atmosphere, unlike this.
