I can tell you how it's doing! The topped portion has some roots and the main base is dry where I cut it - I might have given it too much sun too quick bc the top leaves that are now exposed are blanching a bit. Note to self ... ;) I put the topped portion on a tray until it dried then put it in my prop tray (in dirt) but didn't water until I pulled it up and saw roots. Now it's getting a little bit of water and seems happy! Maybe I should just do a series of updates on everything soon ... seedlings, propagations, cuttings... I really love progress data and have a lot documented over here....
I wanted to share my excitement today when I picked up a clearance succulent that looked sad, and I hope I can recover it, but the excitement was finding lots of baby plants that had sprouted from leaves that had fallen off! Now to try not to kill them!!

Question. On succulents aloes and so forth if the plant/pot is root bound, and it has lots and lots of roots, is it dangerous to cut the roots shorter before repotting?
Best to leave the roots alone but if you do need to cut them back, be sure to leave the plant unpotted for a few days so the cut ends can dry. Don't want root rot!
Would you know if it’s really impossible to propagate echevaria imbricata? I had a few leaf cuttings and they’re on to their 2nd week. Not showing any baby roots at all. 😢 keeping my fingers crossed. Not sure what you call it there but we call it rose cabbage in the philippines. Would love to hear your thoughts! ❤️
Hi Leslie! I love the name Rose Cabbage haha- how perfect! I think 2 weeks is a bit soon to start worrying - some of my leaves have taken months to do anything! E. imbracata can be a bit difficult to care for in more hot and humid regions -- and since it's always pretty warm there, I'm going to guess it's just a slow grower and not a season issue. Report back in 2 more weeks :D

Tolerate! Seriously? First of all, you are well, how can I say without offending you! You my dear are very easy on the eyes!😀 I think people wouldn't mind a long video or you can split it up in categories or something,like plants in different rooms or around your place,divided by genus etc!
Enjoyed your video. I've had some of the same problems with that variety. You termed it "Chrispy or crunchy". Just a funny tendency to break off badly, enjoyed learning that that's just the personality of that little guy. I live in northern NM and have Zone envy, but not envy of your hurricanes!!
Yes lol! But I see roots on some of the leaves I took off so there's still a chance! I've never been to NM but I'm sure it's amazing when it's not super hot or super cold :)

Hi, so I recently( about a month and a half ago repotted) a succulent I think it is an Echeveria, but there were several small ones in the same container... so I put most of them in their own pots. Now some of them have roots growing out of the stems even though they have roots at the base & are potted... what can cause this & how do I fix it?
It's normal! Look up aerial roots. Common w/ cuttings and rooted plants in humid location, and sometimes a sign of a need for more water. Your cuttings probably shot them out as a backup plan while putting out base roots 🙏
I needed this! I have a guy that's super leggy and am new to this whole thing, it has roots on the stem and I'm wondering how I should handle it, (it might be a longer type I'm not sure) but it's a very sentimental plant so I want to do right by it please help!!
That sounds like a perfectly normal scenario! Roots on the stem are aerial roots and you don't need to worry about saving them. Hello, i am from Houston too. I have not had successful in growing succulents, i still try to plant them again this year. Most of the time, they got root rot, or too dry. What is the maximum heat succulent can tolerate?

This is a great video. I have a couple of fairly large rosette succulents that have grown upward - pretty much ruining their original appearance. When I searched online for information on how to correct the problem, all I found was a lot of "doomsday" talk. I'm so glad that I happened on your instructional as to how to deal with it. Now I know what to do. Thank you. I have subscribed to "Sucs For You" (love that name - big time) and am looking forward viewing your other succulent videos since you appear to actually know what you're doing - a bit of a rarity among some of the so-called "experts" who post plant care information on TH-cam. I live in Houston as well and the amount of rain we have been getting recently is killing my plants!! My plants are looking like yours, if not worse! I have never had any luck propagating but I will try it again, and behead my ugly sun-deprived plants. Sigh. Is it a mistake to do this in the fall? Although, Houston fall doesn't start until the end of November LOL
Can you please help me understand the cinnamon over a fresh cut to prevent water absorption until it callouses, I am really new and I heard that so I’m wondering if it’s true and if so when does it work and doesn’t it work, I know that was a lot to ask in the comments 😂 oh and the stem one you have, if you were to cut a new opening in the stem would a plant grow there?
Cinnamon helps as an anti-fungal but I haven't heard that it helps prevent water absorption. And per the stem, you usually need to cut the whole thing rather than just nick it.
Will my succulent survive if I pick off all the leaves because they are all stretched and they vary alot in size I only bought the plant in November and its not getting any better. Ive tried looking for the plants name to see if im doing anything wrong but I cant seem to find anything it has a pale green colour with a faint red outline and theres a point on each leaf like the first succulent in the video but it doesnt look like it. Please help and comment any suggestions the closest plant I found was Echeveria Pullidonis
You want to leave some leaves on if you're planning on keeping the stem planted to help assist in photosynthesis. What you described does sound like an E. pulidonis and they're durable and great propagators!
I love your videos, they are highly informative. But I have a question, and hopefully you can turn this question into a video for your channel, but here in Michigan I have succs growing in my house and the fungus gnats are real....I have tried a lot of things I found online that are not working at all. Some have said using ground up dried egg shell or coffee grounds but I don't want to do that yet. Please tell me what you do to keep gnats off your sucs!!!
Sucs For You! Yes i do but they are just seedling herbs that are completely isolated in my warm laundry room. Today I actually put rocks in all my succulent pots except for the one such center piece I actually bought from Meijer. I read that you should always repot store bought plants cause they use a lot of moisture holding organic materials in the soil to keep from having to water a lot, so I repotted it with an organic cactus soil. The original soil it was in was quite dry so I'm wondering if the gnats came from the Bananas. I keep this center piece on my kitchen table.
Ah then I bet the gnats are from an external source like your fruit. Its odd that they're going after the succulent soil if its drying out between watering. First, try letting the soil dry out and stay dry for a week or more. When you water, do so sparingly. Meanwhile, set out a trap of vinegar for the flies - you can google methods that work for you. I'm not sure where you're located, but join our FB group if you'd like! facebook.com/groups/sucsforyou/ - I found a few links that have some non-toxic solutions and others in the group may have some tried and true methods
Okay, thank you for the info. It's very much appreciated. Especially now that the doggone gnats are going after my seedling herbs. I sprinkled peppermint essential oil around the plants on the counter (not in the soil) as a smell barrier and it seems to be working. I am going to try it with my succulants.
You're welcome! There are some yellow sticky traps you can set out too but it won't stop any previously laid eggs from hatching. Watering w/ diluted vinegar can be used on plants that aren't as delicate as seedlings :/ I sprinkle cinnamon in my soil to hopefully keep fungus at bay... I can't verify that it works for sure but it smells great! :D
Hi, I have a question. I bought a stretched succulent at Walmart and repoted it bc the pot it was in was super small. The next day it started dropping bottom leaves like it was over watered. So I took it out and cleaned the dirt from roots and allowed them to dry then I repoted again. I didn't water it. Still today 4 days later, I see another leaf dropping and its only got 4 leaves left now. I don't know what else to do for it besides beheading it and starting it over. Any suggestions?
How do you fix a sun damaged succulent? I didn’t realize I left it in the sun too long and the part of the leaves that connect them to the stem became very soft and thin and kinda shriveled. Also the smaller middle leaves were shriveled. It’s a pretty small plant but I do not know the name
It's up to you! You and let the damaged leaves die off and new growth will come in. Or you can remove them manually and try to propagate them. Sun damage is permanent in most cases but minor enough to not harm the plant's growth :)
When I tried propagating the leaves of mine, they either turned black and rotted, or they turn yellow and then they dry up. Is there a specific cause to this?

You're all over the place!! I had a delicious sandwich in Alpine - I'd rather have an aloe though! :) I love Brugs - I've never grown any but I have an Abutilon in bloom! You can't hurry sucs... but some grow more quickly than others and they'll always grow faster in controlled conditions

I love your videos, they are highly informative. But I have a question, and hopefully you can turn this question into a video for your channel, but here in Michigan I have succs growing in my house and the fungus gnats are real....I have tried a lot of things I found online that are not working at all. Some have said using ground up dried egg shell or coffee grounds but I don't want to do that yet. Please tell me what you do to keep gnats off your sucs!!!

Sucs For You! Yes i do but they are just seedling herbs that are completely isolated in my warm laundry room. Today I actually put rocks in all my succulent pots except for the one such center piece I actually bought from Meijer. I read that you should always repot store bought plants cause they use a lot of moisture holding organic materials in the soil to keep from having to water a lot, so I repotted it with an organic cactus soil. The original soil it was in was quite dry so I'm wondering if the gnats came from the Bananas. I keep this center piece on my kitchen table.
Ah then I bet the gnats are from an external source like your fruit. Its odd that they're going after the succulent soil if its drying out between watering. First, try letting the soil dry out and stay dry for a week or more. When you water, do so sparingly. Meanwhile, set out a trap of vinegar for the flies - you can google methods that work for you.

Okay, thank you for the info. It's very much appreciated. Especially now that the doggone gnats are going after my seedling herbs. I sprinkled peppermint essential oil around the plants on the counter (not in the soil) as a smell barrier and it seems to be working. I am going to try it with my succulants.
You're welcome! There are some yellow sticky traps you can set out too but it won't stop any previously laid eggs from hatching. Watering w/ diluted vinegar can be used on plants that aren't as delicate as seedlings :/ I sprinkle cinnamon in my soil to hopefully keep fungus at bay... I can't verify that it works for sure but it smells great! :D
Hi, I have a question. I bought a stretched succulent at Walmart and repoted it bc the pot it was in was super small. The next day it started dropping bottom leaves like it was over watered. So I took it out and cleaned the dirt from roots and allowed them to dry then I repoted again. I didn't water it. Still today 4 days later, I see another leaf dropping and its only got 4 leaves left now. I don't know what else to do for it besides beheading it and starting it over. Any suggestions?
I agree - sounds like stem rot - hopefully there's a section left with a will to live 🙏
How do you fix a sun damaged succulent? I didn’t realize I left it in the sun too long and the part of the leaves that connect them to the stem became very soft and thin and kinda shriveled. Also the smaller middle leaves were shriveled. It’s a pretty small plant but I do not know the name
It's up to you! You and let the damaged leaves die off and new growth will come in. Or you can remove them manually and try to propagate them. Sun damage is permanent in most cases but minor enough to not harm the plant's growth :)
When I tried propagating the leaves of mine, they either turned black and rotted, or they turn yellow and then they dry up. Is there a specific cause to this?
It could be due to breakage during removal or not being kept dry afterwards ...

please do a video on special succulents that need more or less water! i just found out my baby toes are not supposed to be watered in summer after they kept turning red and shriveling T_T
