Hi Jess, three years after you posted it, your video is still helping. 😀Thank you for that information, I now feel more confident in dealing with my "stretched" succulents.
Perfect timing! I was showing my husband two succulents that are looking really crazy and the babies have babies and he thought that was how they were supposed to look. I was just changing their direction but clearly they need more sun. Thanks, girl! I'll be moving them today. I, and my succulents, thank you! 😁
I just found this video after getting some leaves to propagate. This video has been one of the most straightforward in explaining why plants stretch and how best to fix them. I brought a succulent from the supermarket-UK- and I left it on the windowsill going on holiday and it stretched out. I was a little afraid to behead it, but glad I did so, I kept the mother plant too and that is still okay. I think I should invest in a grow light to help them along.
So so so helpful. Thank you so much. I had no Idea what it meant for succulents to become stretched and how to fix it. I jumped on mine right away after this video. Thanks again 🙏🏾💗🙏🏾
Hi Jess, This video was extremely helpful and I thank you. I am new to succulents and purchased 12 different varieties in 2" pots a while back. I am enjoying them a great deal but quite a few of them have stretched and I am wondering if your technique will work on any variety. I would be glad to send a photo if you need to see them. I would also be willing to buy a book on the raising of succulents if you know of a good one. Thanks for any help, Janell
Hi Jess. Im new to the Succulent world, and I'm in love with these plants!! I have a couple store bought Echeveria's and the tops doesn't have a full rosesette. Should I go ahead and top them or wait for them to fill out? I love your channel!! Thank you!!
wow , you answer my question, it is been along time i have to find my problems about space between leaf. I will try your solution. Thanks for advice. Where can i see the continuation of your lola cutting after months?
i recently did this to my echeveria PVN. i already cut two pups from it and it is making about 7 more! also did it to two other echeverias. its to fun!
If you are going to give them away as gifts do you need to give a grow light too? Mine wouldn't make it through winter here. Rains too much so I have all mine inside.
I'm curious. Is it necessary to "fix" stretch succulents. I kind of like them tall. I was really looking for tips regarding multi-succulent in one Poland if or when I should separate those.
Would roots still grow from the cuttings if I don’t plant them in soil, like how the leaves do? I was also wondering, if my cuttings at the stem started to get soft while callousing over, can they still grow roots? Thank you very much and I enjoyed the video ❤
Yes, just as the other comment said too. But ya, you just wiggle off a few of the leaves where you want to cut and then you should be able to easily take a cutting.
@@LuckystrikeGFXer here is a video that you might find helpful too, I took a lot of cuttings in it from a lot of different plants. If you have a certain one you are curious about too, let me know and maybe I will have an example. Hope it helps! th-cam.com/video/wT1NuJLqHjM/w-d-xo.html&feature=share.
Lola leaves do not propagate very easily. I know u had a hard time with it then I saw ur vid where u finally got a lola leaf to grow a baby. I've only gotten roots so far. Those cuttings look great tho. Thank u for the great vids!
In this case, they would be fine because they weren't too stretched out. For other succulents that get really stretched out, they will lose their strength and will probably die if they don't get more access to light. You don't have to cut it, but you should give it more light if it is stretching.
@@AngelsGrove Thank you. I gave a succulent who I bought extremely stretched out but I put it on my windowsill and the top is growing normally. I'm afraid to do anything with it because I always kill my plants with little mistakes.
@@linegallagher3776 I would let it keep growing and then once there is a good sized healthy new head, you can cut it and remove it from the stretched out part.
Do you find your Lola's needing more light than your other echeverias (like your superbum for example) to keep from stretching? Or were these Lola's just further from the grow light vs. the other succulents you showed us that were nice and compact? Thanks for the great video and love your pup!
It is kind of hard to tell as they were technically on the same shelf but the way I had them positioned originally, I think the Lola’s light was being blocked by some other succulents. But the ones I showed were on the same shelf and they didn’t stretch nearly as much. So it could be a Lola thing too that they need more light!
Lola’s have to have a lot of full sun or a grow light to get and keep color. The darker succulents (pink purple red etc) especially need a lot of light
I'm fairly new to propagating and am currently doing my first round of leaf propogation. I'm having some success, but I have 5 or so leaves that have grown a lot of roots but no baby plant. They've been sitting on cactus soil and I mist them every day or every other day. Any reason they are not growing baby plants? They've been growing roots for about a month but no plants. Am I watering too much? Too little? Any ideas would be helpful!!!
This is why leaf propagation is my least favorite haha 😂 it is so unreliable. You probably aren’t doing anything wrong. It is kind of up to chance whether or not you will get babies. I personally don’t even water my leafs though and just set them in a dish next to a window and check back on them every few weeks. Once they have a baby, then I move them to some soil and begin watering. Just keep watching them, there really isn’t anything you can do to get them to grow babies.
I have finally got 2 Lola leaves to propagate after having placed them on my cactus soil mix in a shallow container near a south facing window! I’m thrilled lol! 1 has 2 Lola heads on 1 & 2 on another!! I’m SO excited bc I have tried & been very patient. I started out w/ 2 Lola plants & now after propagation through cuttings I have 12 not including the 2 Lola-leaf-babies (& what comes from the last cuttings I did this last week🤞🏻)! I just love it!
Mine are sooo stretched out and tall enough to lean over. I was looking for advice on how to trim them, and you do a great job of explaining that. I have not had much luck at all with trying to get the leaves to root; at least this gives a pretty head from the start! (Great dog film, too 👍🙂)
eeeeeeek! your doggo is so lovely 😍😍😍😍😍 what a big baby! edit: do you know if these are summer or winter dormant? i have had one for months and it has literally never changed lmao
Isn’t she though 😂 in terms of dormancy I am never really sure as mine are under grow lights all year. I feel like I was told that succulents are usually dormant in the winter with the exception of lithops and they are the opposite(but don’t quote me on that haha).
I believe they are 40 watts. Also, could you move your light closer to the succulent? That might help too. My lights are maybe only 6 inches from my succulents now.
All of my succulents stay inside all year round cause it is too cold for them outside, so mine don’t really have grow seasons but I take cuttings all year round. Just took a ton this week!
You totally can there isn’t anything wrong with them they will still be healthy and happy but I am addicted to propagation and saw my opportunity to cut off some tops hahah

I have learned so much from your channel. Thank you for putting out such solid content 💜
Came here for plants, stayed for the doggo. She's perfect.
I love it. She is my favorite fluff 🥰
This is literally the most helpful info. I needed this like straight forward info especially whether or not to water the cut part. Thank you for this!
Your Lolas are so beautiful! I need to behead lots of plants so thank you for the informative video!
I love your dog. So so so cute
Excellent explanation!
If a succulent becomes really really leggy,, and a lot needs to be cut, can you cut middle of the stem and do something with to them stem?
I think there pretty like that. I just bought my first one today.
Dog and succulents ❤️
Beautiful plants, great video.
Soo pretty! Thank you this was great!
MAGNIFICENT VIDEO!!!
Hey how do you re pot i put all seeds in one pot by accident and they are sprouting how and when do I move them help !!! :D
Thanks 🙏!

this video was so satisfying!!
What kind of cutters do you use to cut them?
8:00 - 10:33 Propagation ASMR 🥰
Also, what to do with really wide ones you want to propogate? Not stretched but really wide?
i recently did this to my echeveria PVN. i already cut two pups from it and it is making about 7 more! also did it to two other echeverias. its to fun!
Oh that’s amazing! I love the new babies that grow from the leftover stems, they are always so cute!
@@AngelsGrove thanks for sharing jess! I hardly comment but your videos always make my day
My cutting from the mother plant is starting to wilt after only 2 days being on my desk. Should I replant it now?
How do you water the lolas without messing up the beautiful leaves from the bottom? Do you recommend bottom feeding them?
Yes, I almost always bottom water. But mainly more out of convenience then anything. The leaves are usually fine either way
What if I cut the stem too short. I think its about 1cm. Will it die??

Even though mine are in pure light they still stretch? I know it’s an old video but thanks!
The stem has grown really long and the leaves died one large rosette is at the end what should I do
When do I start putting them under sunlight after a month of watering them from cuttings.
You say that beheading is your preferred propagation method, how would you do this on compact grown Echeverias?
Yes, just as the other comment said too. But ya, you just wiggle off a few of the leaves where you want to cut and then you should be able to easily take a cutting.
@@AngelsGrove Thanks, still on some varieties that grow pretty stemless it might be hard to do it.

you can put the fresh cut In water and it will have roots in one week.
You don’t have to put it in anything for awhile. You can let it be until the end dries a little then plant it right back wherever you want it.
I can’t wait till my Lola is that color, it’s so pretty. I tried the leaves and they dried up.
