What an excellent, well organised video on dark low light plants. Ignore the comments about showing less of your image and more of the plants. If people are writing or taking notes on the most important aspects of the video which is information, then they are not staring at the screen. You were great with your delivery of information. The progression of the video, covering the plant varieties, options, aesthetic aspects, your calm concise presentation and key maintenance details flowed effortlessly, and made easy viewing. Thank you for taking the time to produce a video that will help people with a tricky and frustrating issue.
your video is about HOUSE plants, yet i didn't hear whether you told people that your plant examples are TOXIC to cats - many are extremely toxic, a couple are mildly, unless highly consumed - BUT ALL ARE TOXIC!!! please warn that their cats can DIE from these plants (or suffer painful, uncurable kidney disease). google all, as i did, and tell people about this tragic outcome from these low light plants.
If you have a few plants that need distilled water save yourself the hassle and go to a pet store or Amazon or Walmart and order yourself a bottle of "Stresscoat" it's used on aquariums but it condish. your water and it saves you from endlessly buying distilled water by the gallon. Just buy a bottle and you add a small amount to a gallon pitcher at home and it lasts you for months and its also great from keeping your Spider plant from getting brown tips.
You can also use the zero water filter system. It's what I use for my carnivorous plants. Of course, you have to stay on top of measuring the water, so you know when to change the filter. After a while, you know how many weeks or months until it has to change.
LOVE how you organised the information. Too expensive? Try the next option. Needs care you can’t provide? Try the next option. Not unique enough? Too big? PERFECT.

For the doubters…it’s amazing what you can bring indoors if you just put some effort in. I overwintered the following in my south facing bedroom, dining room and living room: three banana plants (one was six feet tall), four monstera, two very large bird of paradise, two dracena, three arabica bushes, three hibiscus, two Christmas palms, one Cara Cara orange, one lime, and one plumeria. This year, I bought two cheap, grow lights on Amazon and some neem oil. Everybody survived and are back outside for the summer. I started four years ago with just one or two mid size plants, which grew and yielded cuttings and pups, then I added more each summer.
Totally. It’s not as easy as just putting them inside anywhere and watering the same as you would outside. You gotta put in some effort and actually think about what you’re doing. I think a lot of people aren’t really putting much thought into it lol. I have a ton of stuff outside that I bring in for the Winter as well - I’ve got a cara cara too! My favorite orange!!
Free fertilizer and in a low enough dose it never hurts the plants. I did this for years. I miss my fish tanks. List my fire eel after 30 yrs. And took it down.
Great video! A suggestion would be to leave the plant in the frames while you're talking about it off camera so that we get a full perspective of the plant. I needed to back track to see the plants again about which you were speaking. There's more of you in this video than the plants themselves.😊 Have a great day!
I agree, he did a good job making the video. And I agree with you on leaving the picture of the plant but I like to see the person talking. I think a better suggestion is to split the screen. He's on one side and the picture on the other.
You are wonderful! Calm, chill and smart as heck! And I LOVE your transitions from plant to plant. Great list too. Really appreciate your work here. 👍👍👍
I just discovered your channel and subscribed! Thank you for the list. It was a good one for sure. I've been an outdoor, and indoor gardener for close to 30 years. I still like to grab new information and learn the most modern ways to keep plants thriving. My family recently moved to Kentucky from San Francisco, CA. I had a potted tree fern that I kept outside on our porch. They are indeed beautiful and unique. And actually very, very easy to grow. They are not fussy about much. However, those little "hairs" you see on the fronds? They are irritating to the skin if you brush against the plant. The "hairs" dry up as the fronds mature and drop on whomever brushes against them and they are itchy!! I just wanted to let you and your viewers know that it's probably best to put it in a spot indoors where no one will brush against it.
I have a potted staghorn fern on my coffee table about 6 feet from a north facing window and a couple side lamps. It is doing really well with minimal care, needing water only about once a week..
Loved your video, very informative and just what I was looking for! My daughter gave me a crazy kitten a year ago, she has ruined, knocked over and broken the indoor plants that I cherished so much! So, 2025, new low light, indoor plants! Thank you for getting my hopes up again! I subscribed just so I can continue to learn from you!
My mom sent me this video and I thought, “Ugh! Another list of the same plants….” But you really offered some interesting alternatives to the same ol’ list of low light plants. Thanks!
Thank you so much for this video, I am a serial killer of house plants, but I am learning! By the way, that very lanky tree behind your right shoulder seriously needs some stakes!
Few plants will survive (definitely not thrive) in a dark room like a windowless bathroom for example…maybe a Golden Pothos, but if you give it some light, like a grow bulb in your bathroom light fixture, you can definitely keep low light plants happy
Every light in my house is a plant light. 💡 , plus additional plant lights on the walls and ceilings. I’m trying to figure out where to put my sofa, things are getting cramped 😂.
Glad I happened on your video today. I've always had trouble keeping plants alive. I love leaves and my son always buys me a beautiful selection of 3 or 4 plants in one container for my birthday. I really don't have a good set-up for plants. First floor bay windows, North and East walls, have electric baseboard heating just below them. From June through September, the heat is off; so no problem. The East window is deep enough where I can place pots on the sill. Once the heat comes on, it's a devastating atmosphere for the plants. My condo is small and there's no place to move the plants. It kills me because I love plants and flowers. I see people mentioned grow bulbs here. Sounds like an option. I'm concerned about an increase in electricity costs. I will investigate. Happy birthday to your partner. Thank her for sharing you with us. Thank you for sharing your enthusiasm in making a better environment around us. Greatly appreciated. All the best for your channel. ❤
12:13 This is perfect! I love your advice for wanting less common plants. I already have a decent amount of pothos from picking up discarded stems from lowe’s and propagating them. I was hoping you’d get to trailing plants and you did! Thank you! Listening to you at work, and I really appreciate the way you are laying out information.
I bought 3 Australian Tree Ferns recently after seeing them all over Beverly Hills and searching all year for them at various nurseries. They are incredible and you described them perfectly. The three most common variety’s are Cyathea Cooperi, Cyathea Australis & Dicksonia. I personally like the look of the cooperi the best because on the trunk you will see the round coin shaped scars the fronds leave once they get removed. I remember the first time I saw one, it definitely looked like something from another planet or a fantasy movie. It’s like a palm tree with fern leaves instead of palm leaves. I’ve watched many videos on it and I’ve heard that they like bright indirect light. That’s what I’ve been giving them, but low light would also make sense as they are typically growing under the canopy of larger trees in the Australian rain forest.
I want every plant now. They’re all so beautiful and different. I definitely want to get a rattle snake. Thank you for sharing all your knowledge of plants. I live in an apartment so I don’t have much room but I have 11 plants on my windowsills. I would love to put a few on my fridge & smaller ones on my counters here & there. I’m addicted. 🌿🌱🍃🎍🌾
I really like your videos. Can you show the plants for a much longer time while you’re describing them. It’s more interesting to see the plant you’re discussing. 😊❤
Appreciate the details, watering requirements, and very smooth transitions to the next plant! One suggestion if you don't mind - more commentary on the "low light" for each plant - you did mention for one plant the jungle canopy, but I imagine that there's variation in the low light requirements...
I thought he did pretty good going to the next plant, real smooth. Except for one, that one scared the daylights outa me 😂. My guess is that he had to stop for some reason.
I watch a lot of plant how-to videos, and I have a room full of houseplants. I have been ill for the last year, and have not been able to give them the love that they first got when I brought them home. I finally had surgery, and feel so good that I can hardly wait to get home from rehab to take good care of my plants! This video is so low key that it has encouraged me so much! Not fancy like some videos, great information, great selection of plants, great basic information. I’m so glad I ran across this! Thank you for your love of plants, it’s rekindling mine! 🪴
I live in the tropics and rainforest in Australia and I agree the tree fern is the most beautiful and never tire of seeing it. Wonderful film thank you. I have just found you 💞
Thank you for this information! I recently redecorated my living room which has very low light and this video is the perfect shopping guide for me. I love the look of the peacock fern as the bluish shades will compliment the aquas in the room. 😊
Thank you for this video... It's been more useful than you probably intended. I've long kept a houseplant or two in my home. However, last summer, I set out greenify my home (a condo with windows that only face NE). I keep a small variety of enclosed animals as well, so plants that also do well in terraria are especially appealing. I purchased a beautiful hanging basket of Selaginella uncinata and used clippings in some enclosures, and it worked out great... But, the mother plant suffered. I chopped her back almost to the soil about a month ago, and she's starting to sprout back, but my humidity gets low in winter, so I'm going to try to be diligent about misting to see if I can really bring her back... Gorgeous plant at a reasonable price if you can grow them!
Like Sandy, I bought a very small house plant just to get started. 3 years later my roommate and are are moving out and I asked her if she was taking this huge plant. She said, "You bought it and I've been watering it ever since!" I gave her the plant. It was only fair. 🤷🤷🤷
Thank you. I had given up on the idea of house plants due to lack of natural light. All my windows face north except my bedroom window which faces west and gets plenty of light in the afternoon. But I'd like to have plants in the living room and dining room. So happy to know there is such a variety of low light plants and you explained it all so well.
So glad i found this channel. I have been outdoor and indoor gardening for years. Indoor gardening when i left home and lived in an apartment. Outdoor gardening when i bought my home with nothing but grass; now it’s my little Eden . I am now indoor gardening again. Things have changed in 30 years so I’m glad to get current information.
This is so helpful! I jotted down the ones I’m going to try to find. Thank you for compiling this information and showing the pictures of each specimen. The tips on growth, water, etc, is invaluable. I’m definitely going to try finding the Australian tree fern. I live close to a large metropolitan area in north Texas so I might have good luck. Thanks for providing your time and effort into making this video and then sharing it. 😊❤️
Great information!!!!! I líve in the Caribbean, and you've helped me to appreciate the plants that I've grown up with and of làte, have taken for granted. Thank you❤❤❤
New subscriber! Thank u! My husbands office at work doesnt have a window to outside (only to center of office hallway space). Also at home we have low to diffused light throughout, and i need low maintenance, easy plants. Thank you for your video!
My snake plant is now 10 years old and so easy to keep. A little water every week and sits 8 ft away from the window. Perfect for an apartment. Love my Peace Lily, good to know I can’t over water it.
Thank you so much - coming from someone who has a black thumb. I'm going to try the peacock fern/rainbow moss. It's lovely, and ferns are my favorite plants. I'm in NY state, so all types of ferns grow wild here. If the plant doesn't do well inside my home, I'll save it from me by planting it outdoors. It should thrive. Excellent video! Hugs
Great well organised and captivating with tonnes of pointers. Thank you. I was thrown off course by the info on the peace Lilly though… that can certainly be killed with overwatering. It’s called the Prima Donna of all plants for a reason. Overwatering or underwater ing or water that is too chlorinated or over fertilising or underfertilizing will throw this beautiful plant off… I have one and it’s not always easy to keep those brown tips from starting and growing…. Nevertheless most of this video was brilliant and will have me scouting for some more of these plants. Well done.
Thank you so much! You've highlighted many of my favorite plants and introduced me to a few new ones. I definitely will be growing my indoor garden with some of these beautiful plants.
Rattlesnake plants are my all time favorite so far, but some of these are breath taking and Im looking forward to collecting once I settle down somewhere - love the video x
When I lived in California I had an Australian Tree Fern in the flowerbed next to my entryway. It grew to a height just above the eve. I had a Gold Dust Acuba in front of it. They were sooo pretty together. Never knew you could grow that fern as a houseplant.
Love this thank you! I’m looking for a plant to put in my praying mantis enclosure. It needs low light, higher humidity, and very small. I loved all this knowledge and the way you presented it. I subscribed so I can learn more. Thanks!
I wish this video showed the plants only with audio. I had to pause to get a good look at some of them. Also, although some of these plants can tolerate low light, know that you'll be jeopardizing leaf size as well. Something I wish I knew about the snake plant.
Great video! My office mate warned me when I moved in, that plants won’t grow in our dark suite. I took that as a challenge. I have 2 rooms, and have grow lights in one, but not in the other. 4/8 died in this last year. My problem is not the light, but overwatering. I’ve learned my lesson, so hope they survive, but will look back on this video when I need to replace. Or I may get a larger one for the lobby & reception area based on your list. Thanks so much!
Nice delivery of content, I would like to see more images of or interaction with the plants, but you definitely gave me some excellent leads to search for.
WARNING ❤❤❤ One comment was from a woman who moves several plants indoors. Warning: I moved 2 beautiful hydrangeas in off my deck so they wouldn't freeze. Weeks later l found YIKES!!! MICE !!! I caught one big fat one and 5 little ones. A fellow artist asked, dod you move a plant in? They get in through bottom drain hole and make a home in your plant. I had unwittingly moved mama in myself! My pantry was horrid! 😊😊😊
Oh my gosh! I did not know that and I transplanted one of those plants for my sister in law(from her son for Mothers day) told her you can bring it inside for the winter. Thanks for that info,❤
I unknowingly moved geckos in when I lived in Florida. They climbed down the spider plant babies every morning and got a drink in the bathroom. I moved them back outside when the danger of freezing had passed. Geckos - respectful roommates, mice - not so much.

Like Sandy, I bought a very small house plant just to get started. 3 years later my roommate and are are moving out and I asked her if she was taking this huge plant. She said, "You bought it and I've been watering it ever since!" I gave her the plant. It was only fair. 🤷🤷🤷
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I just subscribed and look forward to watching more content 😊
Thanks I appreciate it!!
Very interesting plants! Im a plant lover and hadn't heard of some of these!! Amazing!!
Thanks for watching I appreciate you!!!
Thank you. I had given up on the idea of house plants due to lack of natural light. All my windows face north except my bedroom window which faces west and gets plenty of light in the afternoon. But I'd like to have plants in the living room and dining room. So happy to know there is such a variety of low light plants and you explained it all so well.
Don’t give up!!!!
I fell in love with AustralianTree Fern. It will be my purpose to
keep going for walking outside
to look around neighborhood markets and shops.
Thanks for sharing this! Many beautiful plants! 💯❣️
Thanks Julia 🫡
So glad i found this channel. I have been outdoor and indoor gardening for years. Indoor gardening when i left home and lived in an apartment. Outdoor gardening when i bought my home with nothing but grass; now it’s my little Eden . I am now indoor gardening again. Things have changed in 30 years so I’m glad to get current information.
Thank you for your insperation. I need more green in my life.
Thanks for taking the time to watch 🫶
Great information!!!!! I líve in the Caribbean, and you've helped me to appreciate the plants that I've grown up with and of làte, have taken for granted. Thank you❤❤❤
Australian tree fern needs a lot of water. Mostly grows near rivers under dark canopies. Majestic in a natural environment ❤️
I would love to see one in their native habitat some day
Don't forget about the Raven ZZ plant, it could be on the plants who require least amounts of sun
Thank you for your time ❤❤❤
Thanks for watching 🫶
Your yard is giving me central Florida vibes. 😊
Great and very informative content. Thank you!
Thank you very much, I appreciate it!
Awesome video, straight info no bs nd nicely edited. Plus some super funny nd descriptive commentary. Earned a subscriber❗️
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the tips! Some were old favorites but with new varieties so will definitely check them out.
New subscriber! Thank u! My husbands office at work doesnt have a window to outside (only to center of office hallway space). Also at home we have low to diffused light throughout, and i need low maintenance, easy plants. Thank you for your video!
Thank you for watching!
Nice! Also Acuba is great indoors.
Thank you for sharing. I like all of the plants you shared.
Like you promised.. a unique list of low light plants indeed. 🎉 love the way you romantically described every plant!
Thanks for watching I appreciate you very much!!
My snake plant is now 10 years old and so easy to keep. A little water every week and sits 8 ft away from the window. Perfect for an apartment.
Love my Peace Lily, good to know I can’t over water it.
You can over water a peace lily, I've lost 3 to over watering and root rot.
Well done! I have 3 tree ferns in my backyard in SF, all thriving and < 10 ft. They love the fog.
This video helped me pick a plant I’d like. Thanks for the knowledge 🤙
Thanks for taking the time to watch 🫡
Fun, interesting, all in one place with great visuals plant video! Thank you, Minnesota Miki 😊
So nice of you, thanks Minnesota Miki!!!
Thoroughly enjoyed the video with a plethora of information. Living in West Africa so all these plants are in my garden ❤
Oh that’s super cool!! Thank you for watching!!!
Nice ❤
Just needed such a video, thank you...Well presented, straightforward. 👏🖐️
Excellent selection and transitions between plants
Thank you so much - coming from someone who has a black thumb. I'm going to try the peacock fern/rainbow moss. It's lovely, and ferns are my favorite plants. I'm in NY state, so all types of ferns grow wild here. If the plant doesn't do well inside my home, I'll save it from me by planting it outdoors. It should thrive. Excellent video! Hugs
Great video! You really know your plants and you've given lots of novel low light plants that I've not heard on other lists! Def sub ❤️
Thanks so much 🫶
Great well organised and captivating with tonnes of pointers.
Well done.
I just moved my umbrella tree. Thank you subscribed ❤
Thank you so much! You've highlighted many of my favorite plants and introduced me to a few new ones. I definitely will be growing my indoor garden with some of these beautiful plants.
Thank you for sharing. Great video ❤❤❤❤❤

Rattlesnake plants are my all time favorite so far, but some of these are breath taking and Im looking forward to collecting once I settle down somewhere - love the video x
During the covid pandemic a snakeplant was left in the office. After 2 years it was not at it best. But it quickly returned 😎
When I lived in California I had an Australian Tree Fern in the flowerbed next to my entryway. It grew to a height just above the eve. I had a Gold Dust Acuba in front of it. They were sooo pretty together. Never knew you could grow that fern as a houseplant.
Oh yeah that sounds like a great combo
Heuchera, particularly the vibrant green ones, survive well in low light. I have a pistachio which thrives in a space no other does.
sooo grateful for this video ❤it s been a true pleasure to learn about all these beauties
Thank you so much for the in-depth commentary on those 20 plants very helpful. I thank you for your time.
Thanks for taking the time to watch I really appreciate it!
Loved your list. One plant I would add to the low light list is the Prayer Plants (Marantas).
Love plants 🌵😍 i enjoyed the video.
Love this thank you! I’m looking for a plant to put in my praying mantis enclosure. It needs low light, higher humidity, and very small. I loved all this knowledge and the way you presented it. I subscribed so I can learn more. Thanks!
Praying mantis enclosure… that sounds awesome!! Thanks for watching, glad you liked the video!
Yeah in an office I bet you would only need to water most plants once every 2 weeks, or even less for some stuff. Thanks for watching i appreciate it!
Nice delivery of content, I would like to see more images of or interaction with the plants, but you definitely gave me some excellent leads to search for.
Thanks for all the information on my favorite plants.
Absolutely fantastic. Best selection. Thank you 😀
The Australian fern is common here in Jamaica,no surprise to me..thanks for sharing I learnt a lot.😊
Oh that’s awesome I’d love to see one growing outside in the ground. Thanks for watching!
WARNING ❤❤❤
One comment was from a woman who moves several plants indoors. Warning:
I moved 2 beautiful hydrangeas in off my deck so they wouldn't freeze.
Seriously?? I have NEVER heard of that! EWE!
Isn't nature wonderful? Poor lil rodents 😅
@@lindarichards4408 😂
I unknowingly moved geckos in when I lived in Florida. They climbed down the spider plant babies every morning and got a drink in the bathroom. I moved them back outside when the danger of freezing had passed. Geckos - respectful roommates, mice - not so much.
so lovable because he loves all the plants so much ❤
