    Welcome to the rabbit hole 😁 BTW.. if your dehydrating you need to powder some, mushroom powder is one of the most versatile ingredients you can have in your kitchen, it adds amazing depths of taste to stews and sauces.
    You're going to look at the paths in your veg garden with fresh new eyes 🤣 all my woodchip paths get inoculated & harvest amazingly.

    our neighbour grows all kinds of fancy mushrooms and they invited us over for a mushroom lunch. I am not a big mushroom fan, although i do enjoy cooking them. anyways we were served fried wine cap mushrooms and they were also bacon like, crispy and like Rachel said...don't taste like a mushroom. What a fun project that will be for you guys. great video

    Very cool project/video. Those pink ones look like rose petals. Beautiful. Oyster mushrooms have a very long refrigerator life compared to regular mushrooms. Mushrooms are so easy to dehydrate and vacuum seal... for later use to add in rice, cous-cous and quinoa dishes. Thanks for sharing this. You 2 keep your channel always interesting.

    Very cool! When I was a teen in the late 70's we visited relatives in East Germany. Under Communist rule many things we take for granted(like mushrooms) weren't available in stores. While I was there my cousin and I wandered through the woods collecting mushrooms so my aunt could make various dumplings & sauces. He taught me a lot about identifying poisonous vs. edible mushrooms and the various different "flavors" of different types of mushrooms. The one that stuck out the most to me was what he called Pfeffer Pilz, in English Pepper Mushroom. It had a mushroom texture & flavor, but it also tasted like you had just crunched on black pepper corns, lol.

    WOW!! Phenomenal!! Is there anything you two can't do? You guys are just amazing!! Now I have to look into growing mushrooms! Lol! I've always wanted to grow them, but I thought a special, dark grow room was needed. Maybe you only need a special grow room for certain types of mushrooms.🤔 I'm SO excited for you guys! Todd, I'm so proud of you! Those mushrooms are truly fascinating! Way to go!! 🍄🤴👏🙌🏆💞

      It is a fun and rewarding hobby. But please please please! Get a certified mushroom guide. There are so many deadly mushroom in the wild.
      I have grown mushrooms in the house with kits and throughly enjoyed it.
      There are many that are easy to learn and easy to harvest(if you have good hidden secret spots lol) but get a good teacher as even just one-wrong mushroom can and will kill you.
      I know I sound like an alarmist but too many people die or ruin their kidneys etc.. each year to not heed the warnings.

    • @claramorgan8670
      @claramorgan8670 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Emeraldwitch30 Thank you! You don't sound at all like an alarmist! You sound like a very caring and empathic individual who truly cares about others and wants to make sure they remain alive and well. And for that, I can't thank you enough! 💞💕💞
      I didn't know there was certifications for people learning about mushrooms. I live in Canada and I've never heard of them. I will do my research to find a certified one! Hopefully, I'll also get certified because I truly adore mushrooms!
      A thousand times thank you for the information and for caring so much!!! 💞💕💞

      Great to see your interest in mushrooms. I have been 'shroomin over 35 years. A few important tips: hurricanes are the big key to success in Michigan--this means in September when the storms come through the Gulf Coast it usually brings warm, humid, rainy weather up here a few days later. That's the perfect condition for mushrooms to fruit. September is the best fruiting time for most mushrooms. You will see 'shrooms popping up everywhere. Concern yourself with easily identified mushrooms like Hen of the Woods, Chicken of the Woods, Parasols, Boletes, Shaggy Manes, Gypsy, that are September mushrooms. Most important is don't take any risks! Know for sure your mushroom.

    My mother has tons of scrubby oaks and I have seriously been thinking of getting shitake plugs as she told us we can cut a few limbs as long as I share.
    They need to be cut for 3 weeks before they are inoculated.
    I've grown oysters in the house and put the rest of the brick out on my dying trees out back. I got a small harvest last fall of my oysters from the trees but hoping for a bumper crop this year.
    We also get black morels and big yellow morels in the spring and giant puffballs every fall.
    I get king bolites but until I can get a positive id from a mushroom expert we don't eat them.
    Now I've seen a cluster of lions mane in one of my old trees but its so high up in the tree we haven been able to harvest but its nice knowing its there.

    • @Emeraldwitch30
      @Emeraldwitch30 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh I prefer dehydrated mushrooms instead of freezing. Morels and oysters almost have a better texture after dehydrating than when fresh. But the flavor is good either way.
      Also if your mushrooms don't grow large you can dehydrate and powder your oysters for a great addition to soups and oh my venison gravy!
      Also heads up some people have horrible reactions if they add alcohol to mushrooms. Aka if you eat them and have alcohol. Super upset tummy time.
      But not everyone will have that type of reaction. I cant have morels and alcohol together which sucks cuz. -white white sauce with mushrooms is a favorite of mine.
