    The beautiful Rola deserves to have a life as a couple and as a family. It is very sad to see her alone, this always makes me almost cry. The zoo needs to try very hard to find another mate for her because obviously is not Monta or put her with other female gorillas. I love these animals deeply and I have a lot of respect for them, I would like to change the world for them. I got sentimental Karin. Again Thank you for taking the time to show us the life of these wonderful creatures. Karin, I love your channel. God bless you.🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️🦍

      Hello Alina. Thank you for watching the video although it makes you sad. I think Rola can live with other senior female gorillas such as Toto, but Toto is in love with Haoko. I'm wondering if Rola can go back to the Ueno zoo and stay with Momoko or Toto at one of their exhibits. She obviously can't live with Haoko. Thank you Alina for your kind comment.

      Just wondering 🙄🤔🤔 . they should have a Senior gorrilla care system . . Where they can be placed with seniors Gorrilas all together ,, male and female 👍 . That would also solve the reproduction amoung Gorrilas of a certain age group . If they procreate amoung themselfs so be it . . Let nature take it's course.iIt would be a sort of experiment also for curious minds .👍 . Humans have senior citizens homes !! Why not Gorrilas . That way they wouldn't be alone and sad to the point of mutalations . Like a place for Gorrilas of a curtain age can be together . That would be something to think about.👍.

      @@ZoosForConservation Hi Karin , I've been hearing that assumption about Toto is in love with Hoeko . I've heard it enough times to ask this question . What did I miss ?? All I see is her loving and showing admiration for how Hoeko is expressing his love for Momoko . I think every girl , Gorrilas too should see how their dad loves their mom . Toto is getting a lesson from dad on how her mate when it's time should treat her . I don't think it a crush kind of thing . She is probably concern about Hoeko also . Watching him loosing that weight . Toto and Momoko bonded alot . I wouldn't be surprised if Momoko didn't have a conversation with her ( gorrilla style ) just before she was removed . Telling her to take care of the troop until she ( Momoko) returns . She is very observant of everything that's going on 👍 . She wants to be right there with Hoeko when visiting Momoko . She sits on Momoko favorite rock ,checking the troop out like Momoko used to do . She loves her mom and dad and is doing what the one in charge temporary , should be doi g . That's what I see Karin . 😍🤗🤔 Maybe I missed something that you see. Sorry .🤔😄🤔 Toto loves her dad for loving her mom . Thinking otherwise seems weird to me . Hi Karin, thank you for sharing the information you receive.. 2 things stood out to me::: Genki doesn't stop eating, we know about her dental problems from to much sugar. She eats the same grass as Rola. I thought she ate constantly because of the trauma she went through at Ueno. This makes sense to me.
    2/ Iriki from Taiwan had a serious plucking problem.
    Whatever they did seems to have worked. This troop D'jeeco & Iriki eat 💩 alot.
    Thanks again, you are a caring & honest lady, I think we can all agree on that.💕

    • @ZoosForConservation
      @ZoosForConservation  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Sonja. Thank you for watching the video and for your thoughtful and informative comment!
      Genki's dental problem could be derived from engaging in R/R for a long period of time when she was young. I wonder what drives Iriki to pluck hair. For Monta at Chiba Zoo, it's certainly a boredom. But Iriki was from a renowned zoo, being raised in a troop, and now she has her own family. If D'jeeco was not used to consume feces before coming to Taipei, what and how the zoo feed them could be something to do with coprophagy. Thank you Sonja for sharing information which I didn't know.

    • @fj2201
      @fj2201 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ZoosForConservation There is research linking dental problems with heart issues in humans; most of the gorillas I've seen have some degree of rotting or staining, so I wonder how much of their research is making this association considering how many of them have died from heart ailments? So many of the videos posted have been edited out significantly, but I've seen the cophrogagy (?) behavior (ALWAYS disturbing) even when there is ample foliage/grass around; so it's left me thinking what ARE they eating?? I've seen the biscuits still in circulation, rice/grain birthday "cakes", jello "eggs", frozen fruit ice pops--- these aren't part of their natural, wild diets. Typical jello isn't vegetable/herb based, so why feed them this? Are the foliage, fruits, and vegetables pesticide free and at least nutritionally similar to what they would have consumed in the wild? The babies who have to be hand-reared for whatever reason are given formulas instead of gorilla milk; unless the mother has died, they should work with her to at least be able to express/freeze the milk regularly to feed the baby who's been supposedly "rejected". I've watched for lengths of time trying to figure out what the Kyoto troop is being treated with at the computer but still can't identify it. What is the source of Genki's excess sugar consumption? Thanks so much for the shared insights.

      @ZoosForConservation  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@fj2201 Thank you f j for sharing your thoughts and questions. I will be able to respond to some of your questions. Regarding Momoko's baby (Sumomo), she was fed with Momoko's breast milk during Momoko was anesthetized. But as we can see Momoko's flat breast, it's obvious now formulas are given to Sumomo. Computer games for gorillas at Kyoto city zoo are for their cognitive environmental enrichment. Gorillas in the wild are good at memorizing the routes to spots rich in food. The games Kyoto zoo providing to the gorillas enhance such ability. I've read an article written by Mr Tanaka, who is in charge of the computer study. FYI.

    So i have been researching the R/R on gorillas for a while as well. There are only two gorillas in Korea and both are very old but both of them R/R almost immedietaly after eating. The zoo has come back to me with the same boring answer you got. But I think it is mainly diet. The gorillas in Korea are fed just bad junk food with high water content and artificial foods such as fruit teas, processed food and such. I don't think they hardly eat any vegetables...I think even fruits are a bad diet for gorillas. I wish zoos will put more efforts to animals if they are restricted to low budget then they should increase the ticket price or do some marketing awareness to increase more traffic to the zoo. Thanks for this wonderful video I am going to pass this to the Seoul national zoo.

      Hello bear freedom! I'm so thankful for you to share the story of two gorillas in Korea. They must be Ujiji and Gorina. I'm also glad to know there are people like you who have been researching R/R for gorillas in captivity. I also agree with you. It seems what and how zoos feed the animals really affect R/R. By the way, I just searched the net and found out that Ujiji is related to Momotaro: Momotaro's father Biju is Ujiji's brother. Bitam's and Kibabu's offsprings are everywhere in the world.😆

    Karin thank you for a great piece of reporting. I've never heard of this before, but it makes sense. It makes me think of bulimia and other eating disorders in some humans in response to some stressors. It may be some of the answers to unexplained deaths in some captive gorillas such as Bijou and the nears self starvation with self mutilation in Genki. There is a paper by Yoshida who looked at the policies of zoo's and gorilla husbandry in the 1990s. He concluded that part of the problem in the Japanese system was that these sort of problems were seen as character flaws in the gorillas themselves not the care of or failure to note the sensitivity of these animals. Turns out it was not just the Japan system but other zoo's as well. There was a reevaluation of the policies in gorilla husbandry and changes were made. But as you reported some problems continue. Maybe they should address the psychological stresses in captive gorillas. If it is addressed in humans and their pets, then why not these lovely creatures. Just some thoughts. Thanks again for the info.

      Hello Yvonne. Yes. It is unfortunate but true that there is a systematic defect in Japanese zoo associations. There is no organization to monitor and supervise zoos in Japan. JAZA is the one which is supposed to do that job but it seems they aren't so actively doing their job. I think visitors need to be more educated so that they can notice problems in zoos. Great apes are close to us humans. So, the scientifically proved effects of similar disorders in humans can be applied to those animals too. Yes Karin you are right. Their well-being does not depend on the numbers of personell, but on the numbers of gorilla's in their group. Gorilla's are social animals. Rola and Monta live alone! This is cruel and against animal rights! Japanese zoo's made many mistakes in the past. The zoo has a huge responsability because of those mistakes. If you (Chiba zoo) love Rola and Monta and care about their well-being, than find other gorila's or a place where they can live together with individuals of their own species.
    I'm very fearfull of Gentaro's welfare when he arives at this zoo (with all it's rock, concrete, steal bars and a little bit of green grass to walk on)
    I believe that part of the problem is that gorila's cannot make their own choices like in the wild they choose the group they want to join and the silverback they want to mate with. Living in captivity means choices are made for them (with the risk, that these may be bad choices)

      @ZoosForConservation  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Jetje. Thank you for watching the video. I would be happy to take a video of Gentaro if he moves to Chiba, but as you fear, I don't think this zoo is capable of accommodating a gorilla troop.
