- *The video was filmed in the afternoon of October 2023 at the Chiba Zoological Park, Japan. In the video, Rola has done with the feeders, and she moves on to look for an earthworm. Rola stares at a boy showing off his food through the fence. The boy's mother stops him. There is always a risk of things being thrown into the enclosures of the gorillas at this zoo. Santa and Gigio are relaxing in the tower. Rola continues searching for a worm. She climbs up to the concrete space near the keeper's area, pees, and then lays down, relaxing. She moves to her room, getting nervous because her supper is served soon. Monta is looking bored. He defecates. The keeper prepares Rola's meal. Rola enters the room and starts eating. She gets annoyed by a male visitor. I don't know why. She calms down immediately after she raises her fist. She resumes enjoying her meal. Monta is relaxing next door. Even though the world is in turmoil, I wish every one of you happy holidays and pray for the peace.🙏

MONTA
male western lowland gorilla
DOB: Sept 25,1984 in Spain or 1986 in Africa?
POB: Spain or Africa?
Parents: Unknown
Rearing: Unknown
• In 1987, Monta and Momoko were transferred from Spain to Japan. (age 1 or 3?)
They were kept at Aritake Chojuten Co. Ltd, the animal dealer until they moved to Chiba Zoo in 1993.
• In March 1993, he and Momoko were transferred to Chiba Zoological Park.
NB: The credibility of his birth info is uncertain.
Monta and Momoko grew up together. They were infants when they arrived in Japan. However, due to the allegation of illegal trade, they spent a few years at the animal dealer's place until the allegation was cleared. He desperately needs a companion to live as his kind. He's been living alone most of his adult life. From 2009 until 2010, the zoo tried pairing up Monta and Rola several times. It didn't go well. Since then, he has been all alone. His abnormal behavior of plucking hair has been greatly reduced since the change of his keeper. I hope the zoo will not change the keeper in a short period of time.

ROLA
female western lowland gorilla
DOB: Sept 21,1977
POB: Beppu Cable Rakutenchi, Japan
Sire: Gonta | Dam: Rirako
Rearing: Hand-reared
• In Sept 1977, Rola was born and was being hand reared in a vet house. No trial to return her to Rirako. But her case gave a lesson for zoos and keepers in Japan that a gorilla should be raised by its own kind.
• In Nov 1980, she was transferred to Tobu Zoo
Basically she was living alone but her keeper used to play with her.
• In Oct 1993, she was transferred to Ueno Zoo, and lived with her mother, Rirako, and other gorillas.
• In Dec 2008, she and Kenta were transferred to Chiba Zoo and lived with him until he passed away in 2016.
Rola has difficulty in communicating with other gorillas. Especially when she is put with a silverback, she becomes ill except with an individual like Kenta who had no interest in gorillas. She loves sunbathing. She occasionally exhibits abnormal behaviors such as coprophagy, licking urine, regurgitation and reingestion. Rola always searches for earthworms as her companions. But they have a short life-span, plus they disappear in cold weather. I hope the zoo will consider the option of Rola living with other small animals. It may help solve her abnormal behaviors and loneliness. It seems her R/R has been greatly reduced since the change of her keeper.

Beautiful Rola- She needs another being in with her so badly. Shame on whoever is stopping this from happening. Much love to Rola.
Rola is beautiful.🌸 Thank you for sharing your honest thoughts, ChenruiJD.🙏
She are so beautiful . Thanks Karin !
Yes, she is a beautiful female gorilla.✨ Thank you, Babula!😊
Thank you Karin for once again protecting Rola and Monta from receiving food items that are extremely unhealthy.
Would it be possible for any of the zoos to provide education and guidance to be respectful of the beautiful primates. I.e., throwing food, screaming and yelling.
Thanks again Karin.
I've always heard the saying "kids will be kids".... And that's not good enough... Teach your kids the proper respect around captive animal enclosures and the world will be a lot better place that means no screaming fits no throwing items including food, and use those little neurons in your brain to learn about these amazing animals.... Respect is key and the parents must encourage it.. thank you Karin for the video of Rola.😊
Thank you, Irene, for your warm comment. I hope JAZA will advise the zoo to set up a safety net around their enclosures. Educating children and raising awareness among visitors about manners when visiting a zoo are also crucial.😊
@@TheFlashyWeasel Thank you, TheFlashyWeasel, for watching the video. And I always appreciate you sharing your thoughts. I agree with what you wrote in your comment. 👍
Beautiful, Karin!!!❤❤ Im so glad you were there for sweet Rola. Much love. 🍊🫐🍓🥜🧅🥒🫛❤
Thank you, Shannon, for your warm comment.😊🌸
Karin I love your videos. I never knew Momoko and Monta grew up together. It is soooo sad he does not have his own troop. I know he is older but would he be a good mate for Komomo and Momoka? They are young and vibrant and had been raised with a wonderful troop and it’s their time to have a family of their own. I don’t know if any other silverback who they could pair up with that they are not related to. That is why they need to really try and figure out a way to work with zoos overseas or in the states. I get so frustrated seeing all these young gorillas that should be getting prepared to start their own troops and cannot because of all the legality and bloodlines. Sorry for the rant but I do appreciate all the time and effort and love you put in these families
Monta and Momoko are suspected to be brother and sister, which would make Monta Komomo and Momoka's uncle
Unfortunately most other countries won't trade animals with Japan. Because they don't have the same animal protection laws that we do.
Karen, thank you for sharing your thoughts. I understand why you get frustrated seeing these young gorillas stuck in their original families. It's also surprising and kind of disappointing for Japanese gorilla fans to know that the zoos that keep these gorillas didn't have proper future plans (or, I should say, a proper‘system’) for their captive-born gorillas. I hope they will come up with a better solution for each individual in need of having a new group.
@@mmaphilosophy thank you. I have never heard that. Ok so there goes that thought 😢
Rola . Love you♥
Thank you, Sylvie, for watching.🌸
Rola is ready to eat! When it’s time it’s time! I love 💕 you Rola!
Thank you, Denise, for watching.
Rola seems to be comfortable alone. because her age, looking to see her do some activities she needs that.
Thank you, Jenniffer, for watching.🌸
At 2:09 Thank you for loving these two gorillas 🦍 probably even more than me Thank you again Karin respect to you🎉🎉
Thank you, Zombie Queen Crafting, for your warm comment.🌸 When I see our captive gorillas facing danger, my mother instinct or human auntie instinct kicks in. I don't know why. 😆
I'm glad that the zoo keepers make sure that the visitors don't bother the gorillas, especially while they're eating.
Thank you Mary for watching.😊
Muchas gracias Karin por el vídeo. 🤗🤗
Gracias por ver mi vídeo, Daniela.
Thanks, Karin! Their new keeper must be kind and sensitive to them if Monta is not plucking. Perhaps more food too. Peace to you too Karen. 💗🙏🏻
Yes, I think their current keeper is doing a good job of extending their feeding time. Their abnormal behaviors seem to be reduced a lot. Thank you, LM, for your warm comment.🌸
Hey my beautiful Rola, i hope it rains enough to moisten the ground so she can find her friend 🐛There was probably a kid being annoying & knocking on the glass. Thank you Karin & best wishes for 2024.🎉😊
👋 Hey precious 💕 girly! 🤔 Looking at the reflection in the glass, I think a visitor was waiving at Rola 🙄. Whatever was happening she didn't like it at all. Boy Rola sure does look a lot like Toto. Blessings and Happy New 🎉 Year! 🎊
Thank you, Sonja, for your warm comment. Best wishes for the new year!🎉🥂 I have never seen Rola getting mad at children. She seems to like watching kids in fact. I agree with Sonya that Rola could be annoyed by something a visitor did, but I'm not so sure.🤷🏻♀️
@@sonyawilson1000 Happy New Year to you my dear friend. Let's hope 2024 is gonna be a boomer. Cheers mate 🥳🍷
@@sonjavandam1306 😘 Cheers! 🌹🌹🌹🍾🥂🎉
I wouldn't say she is scarier than a silverback, not by any means. Lol
But it is so sad to see these social animals living in isolation. When it didn't work out with monta, she should have been sent somewhere else. It doesn't seem like they have the animal's best interests in mind.
I know what you mean. It's sad that we still keep healthy gorillas in isolation. Thank you Big Boy Toys for watching the video.
@@karintogorillas thank you for the great videos.
Karin obrigada por mostrar com sensibilidade como a Rola está, eu fico realmente muito triste de ver Monta e Rola sozinhos, eu não me conformo, eles são animais sociáveis, fico revoltada, eu amo os gorilas 😢
Cláudia dear, I know how much you love and care for gorillas. And I thank you for continuously watching the videos of Rola and Monta and caring about them. Obrigada, Cláudia. 🌸
Habari Karin😊 Video nzuri Sana. Asante
Habari Naima! Unakaribishwa. Asante sana.😊
I do have to say, Ms. Rola’s room looks so much cleaner the before. Thank you Karin for a great video. Happy New Year! 🎉😊
I noticed that too, especially the viewing window is a lot cleaner.😆👍 Thank you Terri for watching! Happy New Year to you!🎉
1:08 😆 Karin, is Rola really looking for 🐛 worms? Well that is way too cute! 😂 5:15 Lady 💝 Rola likes her peaceful quiet 😴 time. 🤔 I think Rola prefers to live alone, no? 2:25 Rola resembles Toto a tad bit around the eyes, and head shape. 😲 7:22 The food is so delicious 😋 looking. 8:16 Yogurt is ok in small amounts. She's got a variety of good 🥬 greens there. 8:32 Rola has a yogurt mustache 🤣. It must've been tasty. 10:29 🥴 Oh dear Rola vocalizes a hoot warning. The visitor must be doing something she doesn't like. 10:41 I think someone is 👋 waiving at her. 11:59 I'm glad there's a guard railing preventing visitors from getting too close to the glass. Thanks 🙏 Karin. I thoroughly enjoyed it 🌹🌹.
Isn't Rola lovely with her yogurt mustache? ❤️ I always enjoy reading your timestamps. Thank you, Sonya, for watching. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
@@karintogorillas 🙏 Thank you! ❤️❤️❤️🌹🌹🌹
Karin, Sonya & I joke that she is the real housewives of stamps. When I follow her time stamps, I'm surprised how much I miss. The Queen. 😂
Hi! Rola and Monta🖐️😊🌹🐒💪🐒♥️

Rola how have you been? Ive missed you.😪♥️ Im not getting your videos like I use to on a daily bases. I don't know why that is Rola. But I saw the post update on Toto's health
check up and tap Karin's channel from there. 😊🌈🖐️Love you
beautiful lady.♥️🌹🐒❤❤❤♥️
Hi Katin,🖐️♥️😊
Hi Mary. Thank you for keeping in touch. Things have been a little hectic due to the tax season. But I'm almost done with filing. Once I'm done with them, I will resume uploading videos. Stay tuned.🫶
This zoo is appalling. These gorillas have absolutely nothing.
It's getting a little better, though.🥲 Thank you for watching.
Gracias por los videos Karin❤
Gracias, Aurora DL!
Kids need to be banned if they can't behave around these beauties
Thank you Rachel for watching the video.🌸
They are my favourite animal on earth along with quokkas and meerkats 😁😁
Is Toto related to her? They favor each other.
I was thinking the same thing. They’re near enough the same age as well.
Toto is not related to Rola, but they are around the same age. Thank you for watching.😊
I love your music but it adds to the sadness that seems to be these gorillas. Why are they alone?
😅 Right. I guess I made the wrong choice for this one. It might induce sadness. Thank you vparkerrd96 for watching.
All Gorilla have B+ blood. In humans with the 23&me type genetic markers the B+ blood humans have a designated genetic predisposition to having very private & quiet food consumption preference. Why the keepers do not know this is puzzling. The genetic marker is well known in humans.
If Rola wants a privacy, she can take her food to her off-exhibit area and eat there. She has a choice. But I understand what you mean. We the visitors should respect Rola is a gorilla who prefers to be quiet while eating. Thank you Jahlea Jahlou for your comment.
