      Bollocks. It's a race car. Race it. I'd say racing them is the opposite of selfish. It's a gift to those of us who aren't massively wealthy for these cars to be released from their garages and driven in anger as they were designed.

      Unfortunately, you have not understood my comment. Just as I don't understand yours. It's true that anything anyone does can be considered "selfish". But from that to singling out competitive racing, or making any particular use of something you bought, it's a mystery path to me.

    • @stevenrobertson7643
      @stevenrobertson7643 6 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      It is owned by Bamford. There are 6 other '64 GTO bodied cars. 3 originals and 4 other S1 GTOs rebodied in period by the factory/Scaglietti. They are saying now that the car crashed is actually a replica.

    • @dgfmoore

    That car will be sent to Ferrari and be rebuilt to exact specifications. They will not let the 250 GTOs just be scrapped. Also despite being in an accident, a GTO with racing pedigree is worth more than one with none.

    • @aflatbroke1
      @aflatbroke1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +94

      It gets rebuilt regularly and at least 5 times in the past, This last rebuild was £200k and in Leicestershire not at Ferrari. All parts are either cast or hand made by us. The reason this car is worth £50m is in 1964 Ferrari made Graham Hill paint the nose & tail blue to define it wasn't a works Ferrari didn't like the way he altered and stripped out the car for racing in the 60's. Lord Bamford won it in a card game later off Graham Hill. Good investment Hey! The reason Andy crashed is it is much quicker after it the last engine rebuild. It travels all over the world by private Jumbo 1st class too. I've spent hours preparing this car I know. By the way you don't think this is the real one do you.We copied the real one a few years ago.

I dont know how that tragic accident is related to this, what I know is his column is said to have broke, but not due to driver input, it would be a real "marvel" of bad engineering, as the large forces are after the rack and pinion.

      AMIN 6969 there will be a metal frame in the wheel for sure, if it was just rubber it would just flex back, it’s because he went into the tyres backwards and was hanging onto the wheel and as the impact pushed him backwards he held onto the wheel and it bent, watch the in car replay and you can see it bend as he hits, the metal is what kept it there once it bent. Years ago my brother lived on a farm and long story short they got a jimny 4x4 scrapper and built a ramp, they went over it and nose dived and it bent the steering wheel around the steering rack, they don’t take much even with metal in, particularly older cars, you can see how relatively easy it is for him to bend it back, in a car that old it won’t be a thick metal ring at all, but I can guarantee it would have a metal ring because especially in a race car you wouldn’t want your connection to the steering to be through a rubber wheel as it would flex and be less responsive and the front wheels could twitch on the track and that twitch wouldn’t be stopped by keeping your hands firm as it would flex, you can see 3 metal arms coming from the centre of the wheel too

      Long story short, they should use the car in stunt shows and do some jumping over cars with it. As long as the vin number is saved, its all good and will remain as expensive as ever. Even thought its pretty much a replica kit car by now with an OEM Ferrari vin. No longer the factory product.

    • @robin_holden
      @robin_holden 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Yeah, you'd be very hard pressed to find an original paint Ferrari 250 these days. Most of them are well-documented enough that you have a photographic record of the many paint jobs that they've had over the years. Doesn't stop them being massively valuable cars. The trend in the elite collectible market is that each owner tends to get them fixed up by incredibly skilled shops, usually over a period of years. With Ferrari, you can get a factory certification to say that the thing has been restored to how it was the day it rolled out of the dealership, and that's pretty much as good as having an original car as far as the auction value is concerned. A truly original car would have absolutely astronomical value, but these things are so expensive anyway, it becomes almost meaningless.

      Indeed. You aren't supposed to make moves like that under hard braking for this exact reason; it's far too easy to cause an accident to yourself and/or the car you're passing. That was absolutely the wrong time to make that move, and he paid the price for it.
      There's going for a gap that isn't there, and then there's being willfully stupid.
