      Sadly, that stuff is like spice melange. All lifeforms are firmly addicted to it, and withdrawals result in certain death.
      But it has its benefits. It does extend life if you re dehtdrated, and is a lifesaving drug against some plaques like diarrhea.
      Indeed travel sort of depends on it still, as navigators are forbidden the use of diluted forms of it like wine, they must only use pure form of that poison, and even quite the amount of engines use a small portion of dastardly dhmo to function.

For me it is as bad as being in a room full of people with hardly any oxygen (or maybe too much CO2 is what causes the problem.. I dunno). I either start getting a headache or I start to feel like I might faint. If I am sitting, I am unable to stand up without either somebody helping me up or having something to hold on to as a support. Whereas change is so little that aside from the mind rebelling against the feeling of wearing a new accessory because you re forced to, any normal teenager wouldn't feel any respiratory distress, at that age one is unavoidably more prone to busts of unintentional "excersize".
      I am speechless how a population whose lungs can't compansate a surgical mask, which are indeed thin masks see what doc s wearing! can achieve the conception of their children? What about other doctors? Dr. Margarite Griesz-Brisson MD, PhD is a Consultant Neurologist and Neurophysiologist with a PhD in Pharmacology, with special interest in neurotoxicology, environmental medicine, neuroregeneration and neuroplasticity. This is what she has to say about masks and their effects on our brains:
    “The rebreathing of our exhaled air will without a doubt create oxygen deficiency and a flooding of carbon dioxide. We know that the human brain is very sensitive to oxygen deprivation. There are nerve cells for example in the hippocampus, that can’t be longer than 3 minutes without oxygen - they cannot survive.
    The acute warning symptoms are headaches, drowsiness, dizziness, issues in concentration, slowing down of the reaction time - reactions of the cognitive system.
    However, when you have chronic oxygen deprivation, all of those symptoms disappear, because you get used to it. But your efficiency will remain impaired and the undersupply of oxygen in your brain continues to progress.
    We know that neurodegenerative diseases take years to decades to develop. If today you forget your phone number, the breakdown in your brain would have already started 20 or 30 years ago.
    While you’re thinking, that you have gotten used to wearing your mask and rebreathing your own exhaled air, the degenerative processes in your brain are getting amplified as your oxygen deprivation continues.
    The second problem is that the nerve cells in your brain are unable to divide themselves normally. So in case our governments will generously allow as to get rid of the masks and go back to breathing oxygen freely again in a few months, the lost nerve cells will no longer be regenerated. What is gone is gone.
    - - - I do not wear a mask, I need my brain to think. I want to have a clear head when I deal with my patients, and not be in a carbon dioxide induced anaesthesia.
    - - - There is no unfounded medical exemption from face masks because oxygen deprivation is dangerous for every single brain. It must be the free decision of every human being whether they want to wear a mask that is absolutely ineffective to protect themselves from a virus.
    For children and adolescents, masks are an absolute no-no. Children and adolescents have an extremely active and adaptive immune system and they need a constant interaction with the microbiome of the Earth. Their brain is also incredibly active, as it is has so much to learn. The child’s brain, or the youth’s brain is thirsting for oxygen. The more metabolically active the organ is, the more oxygen it requires. In children and adolescents every organ is metabolically active.
    To deprive a child’s or an adolescent’s brain from oxygen, or to restrict it in any way, is not only dangerous to their health, it is absolutely criminal. Oxygen deficiency inhibits the development of the brain, and the damage that has taken place as a result CANNOT be reversed.
    The child needs the brain to learn, and the brain needs oxygen to function. We don’t need a clinical study for that. This is simple, indisputable physiology. Conscious and purposely induced oxygen deficiency is an absolutely deliberate health hazard, and an absolute medical contraindication.
    An absolute medical contraindication in medicine means that this drug, this therapy, this method or measure should not be used - is not allowed to be used. To coerce an entire population to use an absolute medical contraindication by force, there must be definite and serious reasons for this, and the reasons must be presented to competent interdisciplinary and independent bodies to be verified and authorised.
    When in ten years, dementia is going to increase exponentially, and the younger generations couldn’t reach their god-given potential, it won’t help to say “we didn’t need the masks”.
    - - - How can a veterinarian, a software distributor, a business man, an electrical car manufacturer and a physicist decided on matters regarding the health of the entire population? Please dear colleagues, we all have to wake up.
    I know how damaging oxygen deprivation is for the brain, cardiologist knows it for the heart, the pulmonologist knows it for the lungs. Oxygen deprivation damages every single organ.
    Where are our health departments, our health insurance, our medical associations? It would have been their duty to be vehemently against the lockdown and to stop it and stop it from the very beginning.
    Why do the medical boards give punishments to doctors who give people exemptions? Does the person or the doctor seriously have to prove that oxygen deprivation harms people? What kind of medicine are our doctors and medical associations representing?
    Who is responsible for this crime? The ones who want to enforce it? The ones who let it happen and play along, or the ones who don’t prevent it?

Point being, I'm scrutinous and skeptical about everything purported as science or medical truth. With that said, do you and every other doctor on TH-cam supposedly "debunking" myths about mask health dangers; expect informed and rational people to believe that clipping a device on your finger can accurately measure blood oxygen levels?? If you circulate the blood through some kind of extra corporeal blood testing machine, and the actual blood gas component can be measured through instrumentation; then yeah, I would believe the results. But these 2 devices you're testing with, especially the "Mickey Mouse" watch, which the young and naive believe is somehow "cool" is really ridiculous to an informed mind. Unless the device actually penetrates the skin and draws blood into it, there's no way anyoe should believe the accuracy and legitimacy of such a test.

      Ok. There is quite a bit to unpack there, perhaps the first being a USA centric issue
      In the UK the vast majority of doctors are completely above board. Certainly there are a few fringe cases, where a homeopath would call themselves a doctor - in bad faith. But generally over here the GMC is VERY on the ball about stripping the ability to practice and use the title “doctor of medicine” from anyone who is abusing that position. My point being, as a base line, UK medics - rightfully, still have a high degree of trust. Perhaps as this is an international forum, I didn’t give sufficient weighting to bias and lack of honesty which might affect the profession in other countries

      So I don’t think that level is information is going to be readily available for simple myth debunking. Keeping in mind, this shouldn’t really something which needs to be raised.
      I return to the point that has been raised at length, surgeons will regularly stand for 6-8 hrs operating in masks with no issue. As an engineer, I doubt you have an issue wearing a mask, so we don’t need to continue down that line

    • @DrJamesGill
      @DrJamesGill  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      As for piercing the skin, again, you’d need to be in the artery for monitoring you’d need to be still in ITU for that to be done

    • @DrJamesGill
      @DrJamesGill  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Fenix, I’ll grant you is NOT the best device in the world, HOWEVER, other devices we use at work need to be certified for medical use.
      For example I use an Omron blood pressure cuff and a Braun in ear thermometer at work. These are validated devices
      I raise that as a point because several practices I’ve been to are using forehead thermometers which are ENTIRELY unless and previously NICE has advised they are NOT to be used in GP surgeries in the UK.
      So, as you say, just because a device is available doesn’t mean it is any good. The Massimo pulse sat monitor IS thankfully exceptionally accurate, and is a valid medical tool. It’s my personal work device. Whilst an O2 probe really isn’t that advanced, and accuracy can be an issue. Especially with small fingers - in children. That is why I purchased the Massimo sats probe, as I can be sure on the care I’m giving my patients, and then used it here in the film

    • @DrJamesGill
      @DrJamesGill  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If I’d gone and purchased a £5 sat probe, if you were to ignore the simple science of breathing and respiration, then you could rightly question the validly of that probe. But as this is verified device, and I have to have it checked every year for work, I’m happy to stand by the results 😊

  • @henrytuttle

    That's great, but that isn't the only factor. When I was in the health club working out, my pulse jumped from the 160-163 range to 170-174 range almost immediately upon putting on the mask. My pulse was much higher and my breathing was faster/deeper. Honestly, I'm not a serious runner or anything, but it seems like I wouldn't be able to workout and long or hard with a mask on.
    Good to know that I won't pass out or die of oxygen starvation, but isn't it negatively affecting my workout?

    What about your carbon dioxide levels? That’s what I want to know? I get very dizzy after wearing one for 8 hours and I’m just wondering if breathing in all that carbon dioxide is causing it.

    • @DrJamesGill
      @DrJamesGill  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It won’t be no. Carbon dioxide is our driver for respiration. So higher CO2 levels make you breath harder, rather than causing dizziness
      Now conversely. Breathing harder as you feel it’s needed - so over riding your own physiology will cause light headedness as you’ll breathe OUT more carbon dioxide than normal.
      You can do that at home. Breathe hard and fast for about 1 min, that is “blowing off” your carbon dioxide so your pH rises
      The science of respiration is fascinating, and also explains how the face masks are safe 😊

      Of something filters it HAS to restrict air flow. All filters have static pressure values meaning as the filtration goes up the static pressure it takes to move air through the filter goes up. I am an hvac engineer.....that's how you tell if fans are too large or small for an hvac system.....static pressure.
      Works the same for your body. If you can easily breathe through the mask it either has low filtration or you have leakage around it.

    That's interesting. You're discussing the masks giving protection from covid. In Canada the mandatory wearing of masks is framed around the goal of preventing any kind of spread (should you be contaminated). I think virtually any mask, save specialized types, wouldn't provide much protection from incoming droplets. I think you covered that in a video towards the start of the pandemic. As for saturations - thank you for addressing this!

      it's cool to hear about the difference in policies around the world, and the approach that is taken 😁
      i was thinking that generally, masks have a direct and indirect way of protecting the ones wearing them:
      direct: i can't quite remember the exact figures, but wearing one yourself gives just over 10% reduced chance of getting it, whereas it is over 90% for protecting others.
      so in this way it does protect others more than yourself, however;
      indirect: if everyone complies and wears a mask, then the risk for everyone is reduced, so you are indirectly protecting yourself as well as others. if however some do not comply, then the overall effectiveness is reduced, if that makes sense?
      but even with the direct approach, 10% is better than nothing. again, it is interesting to hear how canada frames it, appealing to the good in people to do the right thing which is exactly what we need right now 😊

    Re: the blue so called surgical mask with elastics to go over the ears. Breathe heavily through one on a cold winter day and exhaled vapor is seen passing through it slightly with most of the vapor escaping around the edges. The vapor is seen escaping through and around the perimeter of the mask. How efficacious is that? How healthy can it be to breathe in the waste products exhaled under a mask for long hours? People complaining about difficulty breathing under a face mask are dismissed as psychologically unfit...hmmm! Social distancing is another issue. People riding together in cars are not social distancing. We would have had a high rate of infections early on in the pandemic because of that. Maybe there has been that high rate of infections but most of it has been invisible with most being asymptomatic of whom health authorities discourage testing. They want evidence of such symptoms as a fever, breathing difficulty, nausea, vomiting, etc. before they're willing to invest in a test.

      Sensations for the body are FAR from reliable. This is why appendicitis causes pain over the umbilicus rather than in the region when the appendix is found.
      The masks are permeable to gases, which CO2 and oxygen are. They reduce the inhalation of droplets which are the main disease vector for covid.

My father suffers horribly from claustrophobia but his claustrophobia originated from a case of double pneumonia and an inability to breathe so crowded spaces, face masks, tight clothing, sleeves, collars, etc drive him insane. But he knows COVID would be worse than the mask so he wears it and if he is having a particularly bad day he just pops a Xanax and deals with it. He's also mostly just avoids going out and about.

    Sorry doc. But you're methods need refinement. People are concerned with wearing a mask for longer than 8 hours a day everyday for months on end. The slow build up of contaminates and vapor is not being addressed and how this will effect the ability of air to circulate. If you're conclusion is true then there wouldn't be a build up of heat within a mask. Or if I were to drink a lot of soda quickly and I evolved gas of either my nose and mouth. The smell of dr pepper should dissipate rather quickly. But that really isn't the case, it lingers up to 4 breathes. Also If you conclusion is completely true, my lungs wouldn't feel like I stopped breathing through a straw. I think you're well meaning, and I do think masks help stop the spread. But no matter how well meaning you're intentions are, the other side needs to be factored in. Like masks use for prolonged periods of time over months. The amount of toxic gases that accumulated on the mask excreting bodily waste. If it is to stop covid droplets from passing though it also catching bodily waste droplets that become airborne when the dry out. Which are inhaled. I would also think that as masks get taking off and on start to wear. What are the effects of breathing the fibers? This is my two cents, it seems the scientific method has been compromised with good intentions, that tend to backfire in the end. I would like to know your thoughts on long term mask usage among children and the implications.

      I’m sure exercise like this can easily simulate several hours of normal office mask wearing

      🤣🤣 I actually think that would be the wrong thing to do. Ethically saying “you need to wear a mask” and ALSO selling them would undermine the message here. But I do get your point!

    I work in busy retail full time and honestly it's painful to see how many customers use the mask wrong.. I actually think cases have increased by people using them wrong.
    So far I've seen:
    - around half of customers have the nose poking out
    - people constantly move the mask up and down, even putting their fingers on the INSIDE of the mask..! And this is all after touching things in the store like self service tills, card readers and baskets.
    - some people take their masks off at the till, wet their fingers to get notes out, or they put money or cards in their mouth.. all again with dirty hands after touching stuff in the store.. unbelievable.
    - most customers walk up close to me, take their mask down and start talking if they need something.
    - people buying food at self service tills, then walking out and eating it without washing their hands.
    - poking their heads around protective glass to speak to you without their mask on.
    - even had customers having a full on coughing fit 3 feet in front of me while I serve them face to face before we got the glass screens up and before masks and they don't say sorry or even try to cover their mouth.
    Correct me if I'm wrong on any of this but I feel like this is increasing the risk massively. Boris and the government should've made detailed videos for the public on how to use masks correctly and the scientific reasons why they work, and they should've made it so everyone sees them somehow because they have way too much faith in the public
