    Living your best life through bullet journaling is a bit of a stretch. I’ve been doing it consistently for 6 years now and find that things are less chaotic then what it could have been.

      Definitely not a whole life hack 😅😅 but maybe the right productivity tool for some people!!

    Most important aspect of the community, use it for problem solving solutions instead of comparative social credence. Each journal should fundamentally be for the individual and your needs differ from others. Also, how much “productivity” was achieved writing in a calendar every day? I like dollar tree weekly planners supplemented with post it notes when I need blank pages. Cost of entry is super affordable and I don’t have to spend time or remember what day is when. At least that’s what works for me. The journal is a journey so don’t forget to change things as time goes on and tailor it for you.

    I once searched for b journaling videos on YT and was overwhelmed by the sheer number and the extent these video go to fill out(create?) a journal. I felt exhausted and gave up on trying it.

      It can be super overwhelming! That was my experience as well. When I stuck to the basic concept I found it a lot more helpful. ♥️Sher

    I started bullet journaling some years ago after a rather bad burn out (needed some therapy and all) but over the years I have seen the trendy super bright and amazing looking journals that some have created, meanwhile I have stripped mine down to what I actually need. I kept the monthly and weekly spread. Moved the tasks part into the weekly spread and use the monthly one for remembering events.
    The daily entries are more geared toward journaling and serve as a personal reflection of my mind and avoid falling back into that deep dark hole I was some years ago. Overall, I love doing it and I will keep doing it for years to come.
    This also rekindled my my old passion of writing and dive head first into the fountain pen rabbit hole.

    I've tried it. I still have a few grids in my daily planner, to track certain things. However, my main journal is free thought and no grids, or illustrations or confining pages, just me, my pen and the paper, I spend close to an hour a day just writing what I am thinking, what I have done, what I would like to do, what is getting in my way and what I am feeling. Usually by the end of my time journaling I have reached a place where I know what to do next, why and how I can accomplish my plans. Bullet journaling seems to me to be more about knowing what you want and less about the moment and figuring out what it means or signifies. I admire all those pretty pages, but that is not what I want from my journal or my time spent journaling. Instead I get the most from my daily pages, where I work out my feelings, my concerns and my goals.

      I feel you, Dana! I keep my diary/journal separate and do my free writing and processing in there, saving my bullet journal for tasks and calendar type things + random notes that pertain to work. I’m a doodler so the bujo style is fun for me sometimes! Thanks for sharing your experience 😊♥️Sher

    I think the OG bullet journal is helpful to my ADHD but only for some time. It depends a lot on what is going on in my life at the moment. I find it too stressful to attempt to make it pretty and creative. It can demotivate me to use it entirely because of self imposed pressure. So when I do it, I tend keep it OG like Ryder taught us. There will be weeks with more lists, others with more thoughts. But, like I also do when I use conventional planners, there will be weeks when I decide to put stickers or quotes. There are times in my life I need the pre-structured pages much more than freedom. Switching between both depending on my needs is also helping me to be less perfectionist. And I think every little progress counts :) But I still struggle with using a planner everyday hahahahah bujo or conventional, the struggle is real no matter what. I insist on trying because life becomes pure chaos otherwise.

      @FutureProofHealth  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I can totally relate to this experience! I’m finding using it in the simplest way works BEST, as long as I’m non-judge mental towards myself regarding what doesn’t get done “in time” - it’s a great tool that I can pick up or put down whenever I want, and that next blank page is always ready for me. Conventional planners sometimes feel like a waste because I don’t use them consistently. Since re-starting, I’ve found them SUPER helpful for staying organized. Thanks for watching and sharing! ♥️Sher

    I hate the dotted paper for bullet journalling. It's not structured enough for me to be able to write in a straight line, and just structured enough for me to easily see my writing isn't straight. Lightly lined graph paper will always be my truest love for anything resembling bullet journaling ❤

    I wish I could remember to fill out my combined regular-bullet journal. I always want to habit track things like how often I work out, create a goal grid, and them promptly forget to put things in it.

    The artistic comparison with people online is exactly why I quit bullet journaling
    Glad you pointed out that you can do whatever you want with it because I didn’t know that. I found out about the original, simplistic style of it months after my initial exposure and a few days after quitting
    Started again with the minimalistic style, but it felt inferior to the more visually pleasing ones and gave up, using online todo lists instead.
    Tried it again for a third time in a new journal but forgot it after a few days
    I find it hilarious that it was made by a person with ADD but it doesn’t work most of the time for me because ADHD makes you forget things you can’t see
    Oh well
    To each their own

    For me I started because I went through a massive burnt out and quarter life crisis back in 2017 ha 😅
    I loved the idea of having everything in my head in one book, instead of using 3-4 different books for all my ideas and chaotic thoughts lol
    When I first started though, I will admit I got kinda sad from seeing all the super artsy pages because at that time, I hadn’t done anything drawing related since jr.high art class. (10 years at that point 😳)
    And when I tried copying it, it was REALLY hard and the designs didn’t really give me the drive.
    But I pushed past that and just used some left over scrapbooking stickers I had and my colorful pens to make it prettier and more fun to use.
    Then when I had a health issue and I was forced to take more time off, I decided to try letting myself spend the extra time to learn how to draw Jack Skellington for my cover page. It took a long time but it actually made me relax and fall into a good flow state and I felt so proud when I was done and it actually looked good!
    That’s when I decided to use my bullet journal to learn how to draw and paint, not just to organize my goals. I ended up starting a 2nd channel just for that and looking back at my drawings, I can’t believe how much I’ve improved over the past few years.
    Lately though my goals have turned from drawing to editing and building my 1st channel (this one) and I quickly realized I needed to switch my bullet journalling spreads and designs to give me more time again, moving away from the time consuming designer spreads.
    Now I draw way less in it and have moved to more condensed spreads. Saved a good few hours, but I also know that if doesn’t have some artistic flare, I just won’t use it.
    So now it’s mostly stickers and leftover scrapbooking paper from that old hobby haha
    But from all that I learned that bullet journaling really is about molding the system to your needs.
    So for people that are trying it for the first time, they need to be willing to test out different tactics and examples online to really build your perfect system.
    Bullet journalling should never be stressful❤

    I dip in and out of it. I personally prefer journals with no lines or dots or anything. They’re just pretty difficult to find. As far as a diary (meetings, events, etc.) I find online a lot better. I can share my diary and paste in details to the notes section. I can access it anywhere and don’t stress about the details as they’re all in the notes section. (Which I can edit stress free). It works best for my ADHD.

  • @oliverbear-mv4bg

    I tried it, but the pressure I put on myself to get it perfect made me go back to the old-fashioned day planner system with pre-dated pages, lines and areas for lists and a timed schedule. I think bullet journaling is great for many people, but I need the structure of pre-printed daily planner pages. I use the Franklin Covey 2-page-per-day pages so I have the structure I need and the (lined) free space for journaling each day.

    As an artist, I don't like spending too much time decorating my journal since I should be drawing elsewhere. What I have found fun in journaling is drawing mind maps and charts so that I'm not essentially making manual spreadsheets. For ideas, I recommend the Decision Book: Fifty Models for Strategic Thinking.

    • @hawkatsea
      @hawkatsea ปีที่แล้ว

      same here. I do enough art elsewhere so I do bullets in excel and turn tasks and hours into milestone maps and graphs.

  • @hawkatsea
    @hawkatsea ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Anybody else use EXCEL for bullet journaling? Just me? 5+ yrs ago I started with a bujo notebook, then I started hand-drawing trend graphs and realized I just wanted to visualize my monthly and long-term trends, goals, and milestones for things like work/task hours, sleep, miles/exercise, substance-free and (ironically) electronics-free days, mood, and health stuff. Like the notebook, certain tasks come and go, but I like that I'm still in control of it, plus I like making colorful graphs with fun decorations, emojis, and everything.

      That is to say, I don't consider bullet journaling the same as "journaling" but a self-imposed low-pressure goal-oriented checklist, much like the grocery list. Everytime I forget to "buy bananas", I am reminded to try harder the next day, but it's not the same as meditating on "groceries" as a whole or a way to express my feelings and experiences.

    I can't tell you how many times I've attempted journaling. It maybe lasts about a week, and then I either forget or just completely lose interest because I never have anything to write in it.

      We think Bullet Journalling is more of an alternative to traditional "write whatever comes to mind" journaling since there's templates and prompts but .... Still not ideal for a lot of people!

    I love the idea of keeping everything in one book. I tried at as a part of One Book July. Just the simple Ryder Carroll method with lists. I found I can't function without month spreads, and I couldn't future plan in enough detail. I started missing things and lost interest. I had not discovered the BuJo community yet which would have showed me different spreads. Either way I don't want to set everything up regularly. I just customize my Hobonichi Cousin to fit my needs.

    Really poorly made video against the normal quality of Future Proof. This was a 7-minute ad for Bullet Journaling, followed by a 2-minute loose analysis from distant studies and mom blogs saying it's positive.

    I love journalling and have watched the original bullet journal video, and now I use the tickbox bullets, but sticking to a rigid system is anti-journalling to me. I make lists constantly and that's the important thing. And if I haven't journalled in a while, my head's gonna be a mess. I have two ends of all my notebooks, one for writing/longform content, and one for lists, and yeah, I actually finish my journals. It's possible but only because my thoughts don't fit in my head!

    I thought it would be funny to use AI and recreate all the stock footage and “relatable clips” used in your videos with a conservative twist. For no ideological reason either, just to have have a very noticeable shift in the background and have people think “huh that’s odd.”
