- Worse than it looks!! This mower has been sitting up a long time and is in pretty bad shape.
Should we invest the money in repairing it?
The list is long, it needs an engine rebuilt, I have 2 to choose from.
It also needs a muffler, belts, spindles, pulleys, battery, possible PTO clutch and so so much more.
Then we will have, to deal with electrical issues I'm sure.

I would love to see this John deere Zero Turn back to life.
Would love to see this brought back to life .... If the hydros don't work, you always have a fixed engine you can take off of the machine and have it ready for the next opportunity.
Come on TBone bring her back to LIFE!!!!!
I think I would go with fixing the V twin thin at least you would have a good engine
I would make a bunch of videos off it and make your money back that way. I would watch all of them.
Ahh.. I'm glad you are still adhering to Billy's first rule of life: "No job is complete unless you are bleeding". Good work. lololol
Wish I could strip an engine that fast and with that confidence.
This is a tuff one. For the content l would say re-ring the twin and see where it goes. But as far as the value for me l wouldn't risk trusting the rest of the mower not to be junk. I'm here for whatever way you go.
Great stuff, I vote you for the one least work & less expensive since you don't know if the hydro's work.
Awesome autopsy! I really like that 1/2" sparkly gold impact wrench. I hope you can salvage a few good bits off that rusty engine.
I watched a video online that was put out by a mechanic that works for John Deere and he was talking about the John Deere zero turn machine you’re working on and he said the only thing on that machine that’s worth anything is the engine he said the machines is junk don’t buy one everything falls apart on them the hydrostatic drive units are junk they don’t hold up. I guess I would check them out somehow before I put any money into an engine and put on it. Jim
Big shout out to tbone I am from Nova Scotia Canada keep up the great videos
Good Morning. Great video! Awesome project. i Love watching your videos. :)
Put the twin cylinder on that baby hahaha 👍
Ohhh just wait until next video. 😆 can we fix it? We will see.
👍👍👍.Thanks
It's not hydro locked glad to see the engine mounting bolts did not have loc tite on them
I'd re-ring that last engine you brought in and put up on the work bench to replace the piston oil rings in it out to new ones. Then re-break it in properly to and try it out.
I agree with you. At least that engine wasn’t full of broken parts!
Mr T-Bone, you have to bring that John Deer back to life because of 2 reasons!
1) we learn a lot when YOU restore mowers
2) the yellow seat is PERFECT! 😉
1 Repair last engine. 2 Try it in the JD. If it runs and drives. 3 Then fix the deck, 1 good sellable engine. 2 resellable mower, needs deck. 3 used ZTR worth $$$$
I’m buckled up buttercup, Can’t believe you let a bit of surface rust in a bore stop you 🤣🤣. Definitely needs a rod, and a camshaft but other than that it’s a runner. Your Dr ain’t gunna be happy T-Bone. Great video once again
TBone the King of Air sockets!!! She's a goner 😮
Already enough on the mower drive train & deck to pour money into. V Twin would be my option since you already have it.
That was mighty considerate of them to use anti seize for you T bone!!
Lot of $$$ to sort that one out T-Bone, you not got any mowers you could sell to them 🤔, great video as usual 👍
I think I would find a donor mower that runs. I always keep three or four big Briggs engines that I can swap onto a non-runner to check it out. I can usually do that swap in about 30 minutes.
What are you planning on doing with it if you fix it? I guess if you are planning on selling it afterwards it may not be cost effective. If you want to teach some folks how to fix hydrostatic, spindles, etc then go for it. I for one would watch.
Good John Deere bring it back to life Advance Merry Christmas.
Hopefully we can. Merry Christmas to you and your family my friend
Merry Christmas 🎄
Push it to the parts yard.
As much money as you'd spend to get the engine going and then to just find more underlying problems would be lose lose. Scrap it!!
Nice video T-Bone and use the saved money to get you know who something extra special for Christmas. 👍
Hey Mrs T-Bone. 👋
I think that's the best idea John! 😅
@@Mrs.T-bone yes ma’m 🤣👍🏼
I would fix it if it's not too much money that you got to put into it.What do you think about that t bone It's just a thought And you gotta think about your time too That you're putting in to it. Is it rarely worth it It looks like it's a nice machine But I'll be ready for the next video to see what you decide on Thank you for the video
use as parts machine
I'd do A re- ring job and install it on to that zero turn John Deere riding lawnmower back up and going again. So you can resale it if you wanted to.,or sale to customer looking for one of those style of zero turning riding lawnmowers. Which happens to be A John Deere style name brand.
Salvage what can be used and scrap the rest!
I'll be your huckleberry. Go for it then we get a 'how to' video.
If you can fix up the second engine for not too much and the hydros work then go for it.
If the price is right for a new engine for it and the price for everything else I would fix it
If it's a customer machine. I would say part it out. Just not worth, what it will cost in parts & labor. If It's yours, go with the twin cylinder Engine & flip it.
I thought that model used a Kawasaki V twin engine
Why did they leave the mower out in the weather to rust? Oh, they had the 💰to go buy a new one😂😂
They won’t put a engine in if hydro were bad , rebuild the twin 😊
Save that seat. It’s worth more than anything else. Save the tires and wheels and sell it to the junk man. I can’t believe the seat is not torn lol
your best judment. How much is a new engine/
not to bad t bone think i would fix it heck off alot cheaper than a new one and its a deer than means mo money heck ya spend 400 on it budget
Well, being as it's winter, why not rebuild the whole mower from end to end. Briggs and scrappem
It might not be a money maker, but it may be good material for a series of videos.
BTW, while fixing a blown head gasket last summer on a D110 (thanks to T-bone's diagnostic tips) I found the best tool for breaking the seal on the valve cover and head. I found that a 6 dollar 5-in-1 Painter's Tool from the big orange hardware store (Alaskan dog sled brand) worked like a dream. With its wide strong steel blade held at the correct angle, one or two gentle taps from a hammer helped separate the parts with little fear of gouging the aluminum surfaces.
Thanks again T-bone
Scrap yard time, it’s worth more as scrap iron.
i would not fix it
Not me
Reringand make some money on it
Does the intek twin have 1 1/8' diameter pto end?...Al Scott
Can you help me learn how to fix my throttle on my D 105. The cable won't slide back and forth easily. I have to get off raise the hood and move it myself.
Check for any kinks or places the cable maybe rubbing between the lever and the carb. Remove the cable from the carb to determine if the cable is binding. Use some lubricant in the cable housing. If you cant free it up you may need a new cable.
todays market, I believe you can make a profit.....
Fix it !
You can fix it but can the customer afford it?
T-Bone why don't you have a hydraulic lift cart?
Good question 🤔
no it is not. good for scrap metal.
It would make great content if you could repower it but it’s not really worth it. I’m guessing that the transaxles would have the same lack of maintenance as the engine. It would be a shame if you did all of that work just to find out one or both of the trans are junk.
Redo the twin
Rering that one engine
It only takes one time lifting something as heavy as that engine the wrong way to rupture an L5-S1 disc and your working life will go downhill forever. Take it from someone who knows.
Rebuild the engine for a good spare
fix it
Motor needs a 180 deg.turn.Moror look like my 425 jd 23hp
Re
ring it nothing ventured nothing gained
I can’t answer your question because we don’t really have enough information.
Do you own the machine, is the hydro functional, what is your shop rate, what are used machines like that going for in your area?
It was foolish to put a single cylinder in a zero turn in the first place 😢😢😢 wonder if they changed it and forgot to put oil in it ???
Had a customer do that once 😢😢😢 His wife fired him lolol
Walk away. Engine, spindles, belts hydro problems gee I just don't see any profit in it.
Just fix it anyway
Ain't worth it, looks like a money pit! Just my opinion.. Breaks & Scrapsum!!!
It's a john deere, junk it
what is a new one 6,000$ its till cheaper to fix
junk??
OMG unbelievable what has happened. Just wait until the next video. Thank you for watching and commenting
Is it yours? Abandoned by a customer? It looks like too much money and labor to me. Find a project that is more enjoyable where the resulting product at least has the potential to make a buck or two.
Its not worth fixing
Taryl fixes all, calls these Briggs Engines (Breaks & scrap-um!!) 🔩⚙⚙🔨🔧☹
