    Great to see you back! I think Im going to jump on this Epic too. I allready got my self a huge 28mm Pike & Shotte army. But as you say, with this epic scale we can really do those big battles. I was thinking the same with the pikeblock as you. Put more together, 3 or 4. I hope they release a box with ONLY pikemen for us who want to build those massive pikeblocks. If Im going into this Im going all in with the big boxes etc. I just got another gaming table so I have two put together. So my big 28mm army can fit. Im looking forward to see what more they will release for Epic Pike & Shotte. I see you close to 1K subs, this Epic is going to make your channel explode.😁👍 Take care, cheers! 😃🍺

    Let's take the pike and shot era back 150 years! Fornovo, the Renaissance wars in Italy, the early Spanish Tercios (including a guard of halberdiers and a line of sword and buckler men with pistols) and (a personal favourite) the rough wooing, the battle of Pinkie 1547 - though alongside the pikemen served longbowmen (on both sides) as well as arquebusiers, and mercenary Italian mounted crossbowmen, English levies with bills and halberds, plus some English warships (including war galleys with cannons in the bow) lying off the coast by the fishing villages etc to fire into the Scottish pike blocks and Highlander longbowmen, as well as those curious double barrelled cannons in the Scots army. Add the Bulleners from the former garrison of Boulogne, with handguns, border reivers and Scottish light horse, and the Gentlemen Pensioners of the Household of the late king Henry VIII - heavy horse with plate armour, whose constant charges upon the Scottish pike phalanx forced it to level pikes and stay put until an unbearable hail of shot, arquebus balls and arrows caused a collapse of morale whereupon the Scots threw down their pikes and streamed to the rear, Arthur's Seat and the hills West of Edinburgh visible in the background. A winding river and a church on a knoll are in the centre, East lies the coast, let's include the two camps of the combatants with wagons, tents, barrels, herds of cattle, and supernumaries and shirkers as these were in the battle line or close by. The Scots phalanx (pikes supplied from France) had charged, thinking to use it's impetus and a measure of tactical surprise, like the Swiss had done at Novara

    Excellent video, thanks very much for making it. I'm really excited for this release, having wanted to collect Pike & Shot for years, but you need a lot of storage space for 28mm pike men - this size would be ideal. It will be really interesting to see how they size up against your Steel Fist miniatures as they are known for being on the smaller end of 15mm.

    Fab run through of the box sets 👍. I am very tempted. On the Warlord Spanish twitter feed yesterday they had a set of 20 different Epic generals as well. Scaled down versions of the ECW and TYW 28mm ones. There will be no shortage for command groups 😀👍.

    Looks like the push I needed. I played ECW years ago at 28mm and a bit of 15mm but sold the lot years ago and moved into boardgaming (like Hollandspiele's Horse and Matchlock and GMT's musket and Pike) . I'm going all in on this (and then some 😂) . The different coloured plastic is the clincher, as I will play and paint at my own pace. Plus I'm guessing the units will work well for FoGR too. My dream would be a recreation of the Battle of Worcester. Although a windmill for Naseby would be sweet!

  • @GP_uniquehandlefail

    Solid video Miller, I agree with you on the Battle focus - seems odd compared to previous Epic sets when they could have done Edgehill, or Nasby, or second Newbury - maybe a Marston Moor expansion with Covenanters. If I had one beef, and its a small beef, then its the musket rests on all the musketeers - limits it to the early war years of the British Civil Wars in my head - although great for most of the Thirty. But I can't pretend that is going to put me off too much and I sure as anything will happily play 1644+ battles with them too.
    Covenanters would need different sprues - bonnetted infantry (although wahey greenstuff) and lancers maybe, so probably expansions
    Now I just have to work out which loyal forces of the King to face off against dastardly rebels. Maybe Hastings North Midlands army and other elements from local forces vs elements of both Manchester and Fairfax's association forces. Leaving out Cromwell though - overhyped. :D

    Great review, thanks for posting. You are right on the money with this scale being able to be more representative of historical tactics on the tabletop, afraid I might need to dive into this for that reason alone (nothing to do with how good the minis look - promise! :-P ).
    For resin bits we might be seeing a generic 'commander' pack, and probably one themed for both sides for TYW and ECW commanders. Beyond that maybe some Montrose Irish 'upgragde' parts to convert the plastic sprues to the army of Montrose, or resin croats or guard cavalry? Keen to see what they have in mind regardless :) Cheers and thanks for posting, was great to hear your thoughts!

    Very informative video mate. I have had a couple of false starts with ECW, both in 28 and 15mm. I can really see this working for me. I think you are dead right on the question of tactics aspect.
    I have recently downsized house and so my gaming board will be smaller than before. This scale will suit perfectly.
    I’m a little troubled how I’ll cope with the painting aspect. Doing 28s I tend to be drawn to detail and can see these driving me mad unless I develop another technique. Cue for a painting tutorial there😁

    The Scots are next. I wrote to Warlord wanting some insights and to basically ask for Croat horsemen after reading the Osprey Lutzen book. I was told that Scots are next.
    As for Napoleonics maybe Austrians and Russians but I believe these may be further off.

  • @matthewsmith1330

    Bit confused on the numbers of harqubusiers. Pics show 6 15strong troops. Description lists 60 cavalry?? That makes sense going by the sprues and the cavalry boxes but the push of pike photos clearly show 90 or so cavalry. (Not counting curaissers) Hmm?

    • @matthewsmith1330
      @matthewsmith1330 ปีที่แล้ว

      Photos have now been amended and 60 Cavalry confirmed. I guesstimate starter box and 3 cavalry sets would cover you for most scenarios from to kill a king. Really keen to know if there's anything new scenario wise in the new rule book.

  • @philippheiermann93
    @philippheiermann93 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    In regards of picking the battle for TYW, its either Breitenfeld or Lützen (obviously the latter is better known due to the death of Gustavus). So it does make sense to pick this one.

    • @schiltno.3bis
      @schiltno.3bis ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Neither of those battles can be accurately represented sadly. The Swedish musketeers wore pot helmets just like the pikemen, and there is an overabundance of distinctly British headgear among the units instead of round hats. The cavalry have the three-barred zischagge unique to the British Isles, and there's an absence of harquebusiers. Additionally, the falconets were not seen in mainland Europe.

    • @philippheiermann93
      @philippheiermann93 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@schiltno.3bis Yeah, that is the point that keeps me from preordering as well. I don't care about ECW at all but I do want to do Breitenfeld, Lützen etc at some point. And unless there will be 2nd waves that are more compatible to the continental 1630ies i think i will pass and instead look at offerings in metal (10 or 15 mm).

  • @davidturrell3891
    @davidturrell3891 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a question as someone new to ecw if a regiment is deployed as a combined unit (pikes and muskets) can they be split to form a block of pikes and a unit of musketeers or do they have to stay as a combined unit the whole battle, I looked in the books but it doesn’t seem clear

    • @MillersMiniatures
      @MillersMiniatures  ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on how you want to play the rules. You can play as either and I think in the book it does about taking either individual units of pike or shotte or a combined unit. In which case they have set stats for those units. But if you take a unit of pike and shot as 1 unit you can't then separate them. If you take them as separate units but keep them together as if they were one then yes you can do as you like with them
