Ha! I know...that's why I wanted to make these videos to show you what an average Joe will/may need to go through in order to remove a t-stat cover. Too rough & you will break or crack a corner for sure so take your time & check things out before just trying to remove it quick. You notice I said "these" videos as I made a few for finally getting the cover off so I could then loosen up the backing plate all the way in order to install a plastic anchor & then reattach the other side to the existing stud. You can find those videos on my channel too. Just go to my main TH-cam channel page then click on playlists & scroll down to AC projects or something like that, & you will find them. Thanks for stopping by!
Great! I have more of this project so you can see me finally get it removed as well as how to secure a loose backing plate. Go to my main TH-cam channel page then click on playlists then scroll down to hvac. Good luck!
I know! I finally got it off on the next video I made. I wanted to be careful since all these covers are usually plastic & if you're not careful then you could easily crack or break off the cover. I really didn't want to break the cover because then I would have to replace the entire t-stat & that was not part of my plan. If you want to see more of me taking this t-stat cover off or any other DIY videos for that matter, then you can always go to my main TH-cam channel page then click on playlists. Maybe even for more laughs! Thanks again for stopping by.
You can go to my main TH-cam channel page then click on playlists then scroll down to AC or hvac or something like that & the other videos should be there since I made a few since the entire reason I was wanting to remove the cover was because the entire base was loose from the wall so I made a few videos for the entire repair. Thanks for stopping by!
Ha! Good one! I have more videos that you might like for saving money around the house. Just go to my main TH-cam channel page then click on playlists & you will see all the DIY topics (over 50) I have on my channel for ways for you to save money around the house. Check it out. By the way it only took me 8 months, ahem...!
So I know you know what I was going through. You just have to be patient with a little pry there & another pry here! Not all t-stat covers remove the same way so yours could be different than mine. Keep it going & thanks for your message!
As you could see this thermostat cover was giving me fits but I still made the video to show you how not to break your cover. If you can't at first figure out how to quickly remove the cover, just take your time without trying to pry it off & then break it. Now you will have to replace the entire thermostat womp womp!
Ha! So sorry I couldn't get the cover off in this particular video & thanks for checking to find out where the other video was. In fact if you ever are looking for a particular topic on my channel then just go to my main TH-cam channel page then click on playlists & scroll down. Plus I just created a Roku TV channel called DIY for Beginners so you will be able to find things even more easier (is that a word?) in the videos on demand area on my roku tv channel. If you have a roku or samsung tv then go to the search area & type in my channel name & presto! Maybe that will make it up to you....? LOL Thanks for stopping by!
You can go to my main TH-cam channel page then click on playlists & scroll down to AC to find out if I got the cover off & why I needed to remove the cover...etc. Thanks for stopping by!
Ha! Yes I finally got the t-stat cover removed then I was able to secure base plate firmly to existing wall before reattaching the cover when I got done. I made videos of all the work. If you want to see more then just go to my main TH-cam channel page then click on playlists then scroll down to ac projects & you should find them there. Thanks for stopping by!
LMAO. I eventually got the cover off & then I was able to resecure the loose t-stat back to the wall prior to re-installing the cover. I have those videos on my channel. Go to my main TH-cam channel page then click on playlists then scroll down to hvac or something like that & you will find them. Thanks for the laugh!
You don't know how long I worked on this before figuring out how to remove without cracking the lid. I thought I might as well keep the camera on to let viewers know what they might be in for. Thanks for stopping by....got it!
Ha! I wanted to still post this particular video to show you what you might be in for if you are having a difficult time with removing YOUR t-stat cover as well. Just take your time with it & figure out how to remove the cover as all covers do not come off the same so don't just try to pry it off without figuring it out or you could snap off the little prongs or crack the cover so just take your time....I have more videos of this project so just go to my main TH-cam channel page then click on playlists then scroll down to ac projects or mechanic heat & air & you should find them....thanks for the message. It tells me your watched the entire video!
I have more videos where I finally get the cover off then make the repairs/etc. Just go to my main TH-cam channel page then click on playlists then scroll down to hvac & you will find them. Thanks
That would do it for sure....but then again I would probably have to replace the smashed one with a new one...not to mention repairing the drywall womp womp.
Seriously, over 13 minutes for video on how to remove a thermostat? I need to get mine off and frankly can't watch multiple 13 minute videos, because no all thermostats are attached the same way.
I was just showing you what you might be up against in order to figure it out without breaking or cracking the cover. Look at yours closely & tell yourself if VideoJoe can finally figure it out then so can I. Yes not all are created equal for sure but most have some clips or somehow for how to attach & remove so take your time. Let me know how you do. thanks for stopping by!
Ha! Yes I failed to remove the t-stat on this particular video but I didn't stop making more videos until I gently got the cover removed (without cracking or breaking) & then I was able to resecure the loose backing plate to the wall so the t-stat is nice & tight to the wall just like it's suppose to be. I have those videos on my channel too. Just go to my main TH-cam channel page then click on playlists then scroll down to hvac & they will all be there. The reason I made this particular video was to show what an average Joe (that's me) has to go through in order to carefully remove a t-stat cover seems as though I don't do this very often! You have to know not all t-stat covers are created equal so don't just try to pry it off without really seeing how it comes off or you may crack it or break off the clips so now you may have to get an entire new thermostat unit...& we don't want that. Check out the other videos for more learning & to see how I will securely mount this loose t-stat to the wall......
This t-stat cover really gave me fits but I finally figured out how to remove it without breaking or cracking it. That would've meant replacing the t-stat & that wasn't my objective here...
This is one of the videos I made in a series of videos where I end up taking off the cover then attach & secure the loose t-stat to the wall before re-attaching the cover. If you watch all of the videos you will then see the entire story. I was not trying to waste anyone's time as I was showing you (the viewer) in real time what you might be up against in order to remove your cover without breaking or snapping off the clips on the inside of your cover plate. This is what you might be in for when you try to remove yours so I was trying to encourage the viewer to just take your time & check things out prior to just prying it off & breaking or cracking it since you might not be removing it properly. The waste of time is not realizing this prior to attempting to remove your cover as not all covers are created equal. It's not every day I want to remove a t-stat cover & the last thing I was about to do is pry off the cover only to break it in the process as the last thing I wanted to do was go to the store & purchase a new t-stat & have to install a brand new one. If you want to watch the other videos then you can go to my main TH-cam channel page then click on playlists then scroll down to AC projects & you should find them there. Take your time & do things right is my motto!

I made more videos of this project so if you want to see more then just go to my main TH-cam channel page then click on playlists then scroll down to heat & air or ac projects & you will find them there. Sorry you felt you wasted your time watching this video. You should've at least seen that some t-stat covers are in fact difficult to remove if you learned nothing else. I just didn't want to start pulling & prying without fully seeing how to remove it properly or I could've broken or cracked the cover. That was the point of this entire video...
@@videojoeshows I think you'll find most people are here because they already tried to remove the thermostat, learning for ourselves that some are hard to get off.....waste of my time and three ads to boot, not impressed
