I accidentally turned my thermostat on a foreign language . How do I get it back to English?? I am now getting my heat by chance and steadily w was irking with it
Well explained instructional video. My son want to install this thermostat in his new home this weekend. I have a suggestion regarding about the wire falling inside the wall. Before you disconnect all the wires, tie a long thread on the cord just in case the hole behind the old thermostat is larger than the spread out wires. That way you have something to fish it out just in case sh**T happens. Also use an ice pick to poke a hole in the wall so that you can start the mounting screws easier.
Good instructional video. When doing any wire work where the wire might drop into the wall I always tape on a long piece of strong string. That way I just pull the wire back through if it falls. Never have to cut into the drywall with this technique.

Great video!!! Thank you for warning me about the wires falling, that would have really sucked!!!! and also the tidbit about adding foam to keep it insulated.
I bought a Nest and it took me over a hour to get to work. Best buy for your money is the Sensi. It took about 10mins to install and works great. Plus it does not listen to everything you say.
Great job Jay! I didn't hesitate "investing" time watching one of your videos despite the fact that I've changed a few thermostats in the past without much issue. Some interesting takeaways: the cavity behind the thermostat can in some cases influence the temperature reading on the t-stat. Makes complete sense and I definitely never considered that a point to consider when updating / changing t-stats in the past. Thanks for the tip and heads up! I really like your approach on specifically selecting a thermostat that consumers have reported issues on in order to enhance your ability to learn and troubleshoot moving forward. Excellent move! I installed a Honeywell programable WiFI a few years ago and would likely go with the Nest moving forward due to it's simplistic exterior design, aesthetic qualities and seemingly enhanced user interface. However, I have too heard mixed reviews.
Thank you Holt! I appreciate you watching and commenting even though replacing a thermostat is nothing new for you. The biggest issue that people have with the Nest is actually the fact that it is a learning thermostat. It learns your temperature patterns, when you are home or not by keeping track of how often someone walks past it (which is a flawed idea), and automatically sets up a temperature program for the homeowner. People find this very frustrating because the temperatures tend to "go up and down on their own". I will probably make a few more videos on it now that I have the thermostat myself - on how to turn off the learning feature and how to turn off the programming.
Word of Advice TV very interesting. Logic sounds awful. I’m surprised a company as big as Nest would go to market with software that like you said would drive most people nuts. Kudos to you for spotting the opportunity to put out some good content helping those that are probably annoyed with such out-of-the box programming. You put out great and really well prepared and thought out content and can present it clearly. If I had to guess, to put out a 10-20 minute video, you’re probably looking at .5 hours rough idea and material acquisition, ~2-3 hours research and framework drafting, ~1 hour actual video shooting, ~3-4 hours video editing and publishing. 8 hours per week on average time alone for 1 video a week. Plus a full-time job, kid, wife, survival planning and prep. You stay busy, thanks again for the content!
Thank you!! Yes, the Nest 1.0 and 2.0 was terrible, techs and homeowners really hated them. At that time it only kept going strong because of it's nice looks and good marketing lol. The new generation + whatever updates seems to have taken care of the majority of the bugs but it can still do weird stuff 😅 You broke down the video prep time pretty accurately actually! Of course it varies from video to video but what you said pretty much sums it up. I appreciate you watching my videos and leaving thoughtful comments!
I’ve installed two Google Nests in my house, a year apart. I’ve used this video both times, LOL. Google should hire you for their training department. Practical instructions.
Great video! I didn't secure the trim plate then secure the base plate separately, instead I just used the 2 screws included and put the base plate on the trim plate then secure them both at the same time through the same holes. Saves you using 2 extra screws and making 2 extra holes. Thanks for walking me through it though!
Since you are leaning Spanish, very good for you.
You can just attach the Nest thermostat to the trim plate itself before screwing in anything that way you level both the thermo and trim plate together at the same time with the built in level from the nest thermo. Other than that, awesome video man🔥😎🤙🏻
Great video. Just a little correction: the wall cover has 4 tabs to set the round electrical base, so I installed just 2 screws total . No need to use 2 screws for the wall plate + 2 more screws for the round electrical base.
Got mine delivered and installed today. I am fortunate enough to have the exact wire layout as yours, so the setup is plain and simple just like you showed in your video. Thank you.

I feel confident that it will work smoothly on my system (my current thermostat is almost identical to your old one). Can't wait to try it out! Thanks so much!
Really great tips! The Nest thermostat installation seems pretty straight forward but I prefer to be overly prepared for any electrical projects. I came to your video after watching Google’s Nest install guide on their YT and I’m really glad I did. Your tips were really helpful and necessary, especially the tip about spreading the wires before removing the old base plate, that never would’ve occurred to me until potentially dropping the wire in the wall and turning a small project into a nightmare. Thank you for being so thorough with all the little details and giving me the confidence to tackle my first thermostat swap.
Excellent instruction! One suggestion: If/when you revise the next one, tell people that the little jumper wire between Rh and Rc (like my old thermostat had) is internally connected in the Nest display unit. I ran all over town to find the right gauge wire to make a longer jumper than was on my old stat. You should tell folks not to b

Your filter-changer attitude isn’t helping anybody
I was really impressed with the look of the NEST and considered getting one. I went on Amazon to purchase one, I started hyperventilating when I saw the price, so decided not to purchase one at this time lol. Good instructions on changing any thermostat though. Thank you again for more knowledge. Enjoy your NEST in your nest.
Honeywell has one for $105...
@Robert James Lol, they are priced pretty high, I agree! But thank you, we will enjoy the Nest 😅
I purchased mine directly from the Google store rather than Amazon. I thought it would be easier to return if I had any problem.
Best video with clear explanation that I've ever watched ... thanks sir for sharing!
Thank you for your clear and concise video. I have had a new boiler and nest fitted in our holiday home, and I have had no instruction from the Company that installed it all. Now I feel I know what it is all about. Previously, a nest was something for birds. Now I feel an expert. Many thanks from Wales.
We have had our new nest thermostat for a week now and we love it. I can turn up the heat in the morning before I get out of bed.. nice
I am FAR from being handy and your video helped me do this is less than 15 minutes. Thank you!
My Nest is replacing the exact same thermostat as in the video. Great tutorial! Thanks
You did a really great job explaining this! I like how you anticipated all the mistakes that I could make. 😂
Best video so far , better than Google Nest setup itself, thanks for all advices!
This guy is an excellent teacher! I have no problem installing my next thermostat 👍🏾
Thank you for your thorough and clear explanations. Excellent video!
This is the most informative video I've ever watched. Great job!!!
I’ve installed two Google Nests in my house, a year apart. I’ve used this video both times, LOL. Google should hire you for their training department. Practical instructions.
This is the best step by step video I've seen! Thanks for walking me through the process.
Great job. Very clear for homeowners. Thank you
Great video! I didn't secure the trim plate then secure the base plate separately, instead I just used the 2 screws included and put the base plate on the trim plate then secure them both at the same time through the same holes. Saves you using 2 extra screws and making 2 extra holes. Thanks for walking me through it though!
I guffawed at this point 8:10
But your video is absolutely a slam dunk! Very succinct, accurate, and informative!
This was a really well done instructional video.
Got mine delivered and installed today. I am fortunate enough to have the exact wire layout as yours, so the setup is plain and simple just like you showed in your video. Thank you.
In his video, there was a jumper.. but in the install of the nest - no jumper installed. Did you jumper or installed it exactly like he did without the jumper
@@julioholgado657 I have the same question! Did you figure it out
@@Cassie1996R hook it up exactly like the video. Heater is built in jumper
I was on the fence about getting a Nest thermostat. Your video is so clear and easy to follow... The best I've seen thus far. I'm definitely going to get one. I feel confident that it will work smoothly on my system (my current thermostat is almost identical to your old one). Can't wait to try it out! Thanks so much!
Look at the ecobee. It's cheaper and doesn't have the same issues the Google nest has.
the emerson or honeywell are better
Way to go bro. When I grow up I’d like to be like you. Spanish, cool.
Happy 2022.
What a great and thorough explanation! I absolutely love this video!! Great job sir!!
One of the best and useful videos I have ever watched in TH-cam! Nicely done!
For novice DIY, this is a great instructional video! Thank you!
This is one of the best youtube institutional videos I have ever seen! You actually made it look like fun! Well done
you saved me a headache... I don't have C wire and don't want to deal with the extra step... thanks!
Great instructions buddy ! Am a newbie and this is really informative !!
Excellent Instructional Video. Very well presented on how to install a Thermostat.
Thank you so much. This was one of the most comprehensive video instruction I have seen.
U have the gift of teaching
Very helpful, easy to follow- was able to install the Nest all by myself!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
Great video.
I use the Nest E.
Let the folks know about the update menu.
Lots of fixes with updates.
Thanks Man, Really the best explanation for nest installation!
Thanks for your amazing video... help me a lot to put my nest at my home, I appreciate it your time to teach us how to install
Excellent instruction! One suggestion: If/when you revise the next one, tell people that the little jumper wire between Rh and Rc (like my old thermostat had) is internally connected in the Nest display unit. I ran all over town to find the right gauge wire to make a longer jumper than was on my old stat. You should tell folks not to b
he did mention it in he video. jump to 17:00.
Cover the hole with pink insulation. Installing one of these tomorrow. Thanks for the awesome video.
Perfectly as described!
Great product, worth the money
This was perfectly done! I plan on purchasing one tomorrow and installing it in our townhome! I’ll comment back when I finish and let you know how it went! Thanks!
Installation complete and all is good! Thank you for this video!
Hey I like you videos if need help with the Spanish very welcome no hay problema , (note ) I finish my HVAC school 2 months ago so i really like you videos 👍👍
Thank you for all your videos. So, during the quarantine, I've been learning how to tie flies for fly fishing. TH-cam has been my primary source for this endeavor.
That is awesome! I love how TH-cam has videos on just about any topic now. Good luck with the fly fishing!
That is the coolest thermostat ever.
My neighbor has one. I can’t afford one. Thanks for showing how it works. Maybe I’ll get one after my $1200 arrives 😊
Oh, and I have to get my truck running right. I’ve been working on it for a week, to no avail...
Lol, thank you Mr. Classic! Honestly, this thermostat is just aesthetically pleasing, it looks nice and is smooth to operate. But it's just a thermostat, does the same thing as the rest of them. I would rather invest into the truck 😀
Word of Advice TV, What’s blue and doesn’t weigh very much?
Light blue...

Thanks for making video . its hard to wait for days technician come to install during Covid. better to learn to install myself
Thank you so much for this easy tutorial, it took me about 45 minutes to be up and running.
