Nice fix Theodore. The fact you didn’t charge them was even nicer. Sometimes it isn’t just about money, you’re probably right about making a new customer .👍👍🇨🇦
I love seeing other people not charging for super simple fixes. I also do that when all I have to do is flip a breaker, reset a GFCI, add batteries, tighten a screw, or something very minor if the people are nice and seem to be thankful that I came.
Thank you sir for the nice ride along. I am currently learning the trade and your videos have been very helpful. I hope to be as good as you in the future
I'm going to be calling someone to come out to fix my heater also tomorrow for it's not working either at the moment. It came on for a second but then turned back off for some reason. I hope my solution is as easy as this one was!! I think the ignitor isn't igniting like it's supposed to. Maybe it needs a new one?
I dont know about that exact thermostat because I'm sure they are all different but let's just say it's worth looking up how to bypass the delay on thermostats. I swear sometimes it feels like your waiting forever especially if its multiple times. The ones we had I dont remember the name was hold up and down buttons for like 5-10 seconds and it would allow the service tech to bypass it. So I highly recommend trying that when you have a delay. It definitely won't hurt it.
If you listen to the issue , home owner says the cooling works but not going into heat mode. The orange wire for reversing valve was connected to power forcing it to stay in cooling mode as reversing needs to be powered for cooling and de-energized for heating. I have done this myself for a few reasons , I suspect the person who did this forgot and just walked away or this was a quick way to get cooling going , there was no charge and tech left the job as completed for a problem for another day for another tech call.
I'm guessing it had a 1/1 thermostat that did cool and electric heat. Someone has obviously changed that thermostat since the last time the wall was painted. Whoever did it hooked it up by the instructions but without understanding that the outside unit was wired as a straight cool. I've heard of people doing that to keep evaporator pressures down and reduce the leak rate if a small one is caught.
Based on repeated watching from 1:40 to 1:55 -- You can hear the reversing valve switch just before you started unscrewing the wirenut, the wire pulled out very easily. Seems like it was poked in there without twisting, hmmm very interesting
everyone typically fails to "lead" the stranded wire in ahead of the solid wires and the wire nuts tend to just push them out and never hold them in tight. it's not just the size(gauge) of wire, as it's been an issue since solid and stranded was first made and spliced. I'm guessing the last tech there was color blind and fiddled with the wires placing it in the wrong spot( capacitor looked new/shiny) but maybe the low voltage wire was replaced due to lawn service hitting it?.
The wire may have just come lose and lost the connection . I have seen that before in my light switches . That would make sense to me anyway! I am sure they will call you back first if anything goes wrong .!A little kindness goes a long way sometimes!
We have the same thermostats. With all of them turned off, the cable to the reversing valve still has 13.6 volts. When they are on but not calling for heat or cooling, that same cable has 28.2 volts. I’m stumped.
orange reverse valve lead in with the red. lol. someone color blind there last? capacitor looks pretty new/shiny on top. not sure why they'd play with the wires as such for a bad cap, but whom knows?

Bless you for helping these elderly folks out.
I'm subbed to way too many channels now. Mention them later and we'll see. Cool service for the elderly. Thanks

Solid work and above board integrity. I'd hire you any time. Thanks for the vid.
Great Job Ted! it's nice to see you take care of the older folks..... Had a few of those calls myself..
Thank you sir for the nice ride along. I am currently learning the trade and your videos have been very helpful. I hope to be as good as you in the future
Ted you prove what real heros are made of.😊
You did a good thing by not charging them. I hope they will return as normal customers in the future
Nice job Ted & if the older couple didn't remember, I feel their pain as I'm older & I can't remember either Thx
Always like watching your video!Have a great night!
Whatever was hitting the fan in that outdoor unit was making quite an amusing sound.
I heard that too.😅😅
It could have been the zipper handle of his meter case.
the little zipper string/plastic end on his blue color meter case, he laid on top the unit. lol

Ted Is No Hero. But there was a mystery there and he did save the Day In that case he is sort of a Hero for saving the day and helping out for free. ❤

I sure never liked a heat pump (in my area of KY)
Different kind of heat. The ol electric meter wheel sure spins up when the heating elements kick in.
Does appear to me that the orange and red are in the same wire nut. Good job...
Longest 5 minutes in history huh. feels like forever...
Probably couldn’t get reversing valve to energize during the summer time and jumped it. Tstat might be set up for B?
By the paint on the wall at the thermostat, it was changed at some point. maybe that's when the orange wire was switched?

That’s exactly how you make new customers for life .
Nice video as always

It does look like the orange and red are together in that wire nut.

Makes me wonder if they were running emergency heat last winter if nobody has been out there working on it.
As in the heat was coming from radiant heat from ho wires rather than from the heat pump. If so, their heating bill would have been very high

Simple is good!

Orange you glad you solved their heat problem?
Nice chippy 1 Ted
R.I.P that frog 😂
Well done Ted, you have new customer now, may be Dick Tracy could solve that mystery ? 🤔 Au
This is happening to my unit. I had a new unit installed last winter and it worked fine. This winter, everything is on, but the air isn't heating.
There is no mystery, they just lied
The Legend
man my outdoor doesnt run in heating mode but it does in cool mode. in heating mode the vents blow cold air
It appears a brother in law or neighbor told her, I watch TH-cam videos and I can fix it for you. Or maybe not.
Fairly new thermostat on the wall. Maybe someone messing around
Help me find a short that blows my fuse in a goodman heat pump
👍👍👍😎☕
Probably they replaced the ttat and don't remember
2:41 excuse you Ted
his hand moving on camera/phone?....
Let me guess without watching the video: bad thermostat or incorrect wiring? Check out my reaction if i'm wrong in the comments below!
Those t-stats are junk, i have seen 3 bad ones and they were brand new.
I rarely do anything for free, cheap sure? well, relatives are an different story. 😐
Ur a goodan Tedward
first!
anti-heat-pump lol
