    We have a 5.5 gal. well planted tank. When it has completely cycled we plan on getting one pea puffer for it. I have seen General Cure recommended for parasites, so we will probably have that on hand before we buy the fish.
    You do such a good job with the videos. It is so nice to have a channel dedicated to just pea puffers. Thank you.

      Thanks Jim! Your set up sounds great. Yes General Cure I have heard is often very effective so i would treat the pea from the day he/she arrives. Thanks for supporting the channel!

    I am so sorry for the little pea puffers. I've been cheering them on since I would like to get some of my own in a few months. I have a hunch that carnivorous fish have more issues with internal parasites because they can acquire them from their food as well as from other fish. When the time comes I'll take a tip from you and medicate them while they're still in quarantine. Good luck to you and the pea puffers.

      Lori B Thank you. It’s a really sad aspect of the hobby but fingers crossed there’s no more I.P. Yes I think being carnivores that does increase the chances.
      I would only treat the new puffers if they show the first signs for illness. Best not to put them through any unnecessary medication. Tricky stuff!

    Thanks for the video. The les son I learnt from my own experience is that need to always deworm my new fishes even if they don t show any sign of infection. I lost all my precious bolivian rams because of camallanus cotti a few months after I introduced 2 new comers in the tank. Now I have this very simple rule : even if a new fish looks 100% healthy, I quarantine it and deworm it.

    Great video! I'm sorry for your loss. In my experience, I too agree that soaking food with meds is a much better way to treat internal parasites compared to dosing the water. I've seen great success with prazipro. However, with paraguard, it is used more for external infections. I've tried paraguard before and it does nothing for internal conditions. I've heard good things about seachem metroplex and focus for internal parasites.

      Siren Swims Thanks so much. It was horrible to watch but fingers crossed that’s the last of it.
      Thanks for the advice. I will get some Prazipro in case the Parasites take hold again. Will check out your channel ASAP. Looks brill!

      I hope you never have to go through internal parasites again. They're absolutely horrible! I hope this helps everyone too. Thank you so much! Looking forward to more videos from you too as I have pea puffers myself.

      I have 5 puffers with only one with signs of ip. Is it good enough to medicate the food or should I medicate the water too?

    ParaCleanse by Fritz, especially when quarantined, or Metroplex and Focus, when treating,by Seachem taken orally. Follow directions , on dozing.

    ESHA NDX is pretty harsh - better to do a short bath at double dose than the dose the whole tank, probably.

    I liked it. If I get drunk, can I like it twice?

    Isha it’s probably one of the best available to us in the UK but there is a flaw with their instructions which is widely recognised in fish keeping communities. You need at least three days contact time for it to be completely effective this is where you went wrong not your fault you just did what it tells you to on the bottom which is wrong

      Hello Nathan, could you please elaborate on this? If we can improve our products, we would love to hear it!

    • @njbaquatics4827

      We’ve just found in our community that it’s more affective over three days as opposed to the 24 hours suggested and none of us have had any negative effects as a result of it. But it’s massively improved it’s performance for us. If you do a little bit of online research is quite common knowledge to be fair. Would be very interested to hear what your thoughts are. I just personally find it to be way more affective with a longer contact time it’s a great product

      @@njbaquatics4827 What about the dosage then? Divide it by 3? We would love to test this.

    • @njbaquatics4827

      No just the first initial treatment obviously levamisole As you’re probably aware stays active for 90 days and from what I understand that is the primary active ingredient. So the only thing that changes is rather than the recommended 24 hours we stretch that out to 72 hours other than that follow the instructions personally I chuck fresh carbonate in and do a 50% or change. As I breed it Discuss I tend to do a 50% more change every 48 hours anyway unless I’m medicating obviously that gets adjusted accordingly

    • @eSHaLabs
      @eSHaLabs 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@njbaquatics4827 We have discussed this way of treatment and there is a reason we advise to do a water change after 24 hours: eSHa -ndx kills nematodes, also non-parasitic ones. After the first dose, there may be so much dead material that an ammonium or nitrite peak occurs or the water spoils. Therefore, we recommend cleaning the bottom and filter after 24 hours and changing 50% of the water. But we agree, eSHa-ndx is indeed more effective if it is allowed to take effect for three days. For a three-day cure, we still recommend cleaning the bottom and filter after 24 hours and possibly doing a 10-50% water change. Then dose one drop of eSHa-ndx for every litre of new water added and do another water change after 3 days. Perhaps we will make a video to discuss this topic, very interesting, thank you for mentioning it!

    Are parasites in Pea Puffers from your tank or from the wild? Or is it a common sickness of Pea Puffers?

    • @peapufferkingdom118
      @peapufferkingdom118  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The majority of the time parasites will come from wild caught Pea Puffers. Unfortunately it is very common. Always best to have de-wormer on hand for there arrival.

    I’ve had my puffers together for over a year and one is showing signs of parasites. Is this possible? How would it of gotten them?

    • @mian8085
      @mian8085 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      From their food? Do you feed live foods? If so that's most likely the culprit.
