I rescued a baby cockatiel that was 2 weeks old. Hand fed him and he grew into the sweetest, kindest soul. He lived to be 22 years old and I miss him every single day.

From the very fact that a tiny sound alone from an unhatched chick amongst so many eggs was enough for the lady to realise, to the care that went into helping Muppet, and now to hear that the lady's aviary setup will be made better accessible for her?
This was the wonderfully uplifting story I needed

That is incredible, the power of hearing and the fact she can recognise these birds from their sounds is incredible! This video melted my heart 🥹
Edit: people, I understand you can distinguish birds from the sounds they make, every bird has unique sounds. But for me, being capable of distinguishing a squeak from an egg is amazing! Such a delicate job. I'm Australian, and always rescuing things. My ex turned up at home one day with 'a present' for me after he and mates found downed trees with 2 nests of tiny pink parrot hatchlings. Between 24 & 48 hrs old. 13 surviving babies total. They were Eastern Rosellas, not much bigger than cockatiels. One of the most rewarding things I've done raising them. ❤

I got my last birdie pet, an orange singing canary, about 65 years ago. When my parents, my grandmother, and I went on a very short summer vacation our next door neighbor told us that she would love to take care of Dickie. So we gave her the necessary items - cage, food, black & white newspaper, cuttlebone, water dish, etc.
When we returned home we went right over to get our songster. Our neighbor was crying inconsolably and brought us over to the cage. We all had to fight off tears.
She explained that the temperature in the house had dipped below 90 degrees. (Yes, 90 degrees F). So because Dickie was so small, she didn't want him to catch a chill, so she put him right next to her open flame gas heater to keep him warm.
I don't think she ever forgave herself. She really was such a sweet person and we loved her until she passed.

It sure is! I remember flight-training with my baby sparrow, raising her up on my finger and then dropping down swiftly as she fluttered her wings ferociously. It was exhausting for her! She could only manage it one or two drops at first, before she wanted a good long nap. A day or two later, she had enough loft to nearly come off my finger, so we started doing drops in the bathroom (confined space) and she did it! She flew several feet! And then she had to figure out how to land, lol. That was another lesson altogether.
