  • This is a short tutorial on how to be export a z depth pass from Blender and then use that to customize the depth of field or camera focus in post with Davinci Resolve Fusion tab with the Depth Blur node. I also show a more simple example in a tilt shift tutorial.

Sorry, great effort, but for some of us, slower guys, there are many mising steps. Where does what goes into what. I put the main image into the boolean node on BG and the depth pass into FG, change all channels to "do nothing", then go to to Aux, then set "To Z buffer" to "Lightness BG", and then nothing happens, only a white canvas (when I click on the vewport and type "z" to see the z pass). If I put the Depth Blur node after the boolean, nothing. It blurs everything equally, i.e., no z-map, no DOF. You see how many billions of little tiny wee steps we need to really get it right? I'm trying to find something, but until now, nothing. Great tutorials, but always missing some wee tiny step that leaves you in the dark.
