That A7Cii skintone is a huge bonus. In that footage the A7Siii skintone doesn't look too bad. But those little bits of red turn into huge red spots if you push the image at all in your colour grade. Being able to start from a natural skintone means you'll be able to do more vivid colour grading without the skin going red.
Main video/vlogging camera, EDC, and back up stills for an A7RV for a TH-cam Landscape channel. Makes a great system with redundancy and lots of options.
For those who are a little more entry level like me and are a hybrid shooter (want to take photos and do TH-cam for example), strongly consider this camera! I have the first version and it has been a powerhouse. People are always amazed with the qualify of my vids and pics. It's also teaching me what I would want and not want on my next, more expensive body, some year in the future. Nice vid!
So here's the thing about two card slots on Sony that nobody talks about. It's actually safer to film to one card slot. Here's why. It is so much easier these days to recover files from a corrupted SD card than in the past. BUT, you can't recover the files if the processor freezes because it's trying to write too much information and it ends up just not writing anything. Unfortunately the Sony a7siii has done this several times this year for me. Two different versions of the camera. Never happened when recording to one slot.
I have just sold all of my nikon gear (z7 and various lenses) and bought this camera. So far, it feels like a definite upgrade. But only time will tell. Great video. Cheers.
I have both the cameras in the video and I love them both!! I just upgraded my original a7C to the mark 2 to better match my A7Siii. I now have 10 bit 422 and S-Cinetone on both cameras which is huge!!
My biggest purchase intent is the S&Q feature: Will the finished slow motion file be saved in 4k? In short, do I have the finished slow motion file 4k60p on my memory card? without having to slow down in post-processing
Great video Teppo - I currently own the A7c (mk i) for stills, and am considering the A7siii for video: is it still worth buying the A7siii in 2024? Not interested in the A7iv, as I had the A7iii for video years ago and it overheated filming a wedding. And I don't like how the A7Cii is not compatible with the Atomos Ninja V and the 60fps crop in 4K. Please, any A7siii owners jump in here...I'm aware of the 2 new firmware updates for this camera. Once again, great video, Teppo - thanks!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on not upgrading your A7SIII :) The A7CII seems to be a great compact hybrid camera and the ZVE1 if you are video centric like the A7SIII. That beeing said: A7SIII 3500$ release price A7CII 2200$ + ZVE1 2200$ = 4400$ - not so far off the original A7SIII price, but with two bodies :D What would you like to see in an A7SIV, if it will come in the future? Or you miss something specific, which would make you upgrade?
If you were to purchase a camera today for Documentary/Vlog content or podcast, would you buy a zve-1, fx3, or A7sii Canon R6 Mark 2? I like to take pictures on occasion. I want to take family pics on occasion
I was really excited for this video because you kept saying A73 yet you shoot with the A7S3 in comparison I'm a little disappointed with the letdown since that's the exact comparison I'm looking for
I’ve got the a7s3 aswell but need to get a seperate camera for photos for weddings / event photography would you still reccomend a7c ii for just stills ?
Hey Teppo, I'm a beginner looking to get into hybrid shooting (video/photos). Not sure what Sony camera I should get. Getting myself a Macbook Pro M3 Max for Christmas. Taking your advice and getting the extra storage since I can see myself having this computer for a long time. Now is just a matter of deciding what camera I should get and a good versatile lens to get started. If you could also recommend what my 2nd/3rd lens should be so as I slowly add to my arsenal. Once again all of this is new to me and I dont have any experience with neither photo or video rather shooting or editing so I'm just diving head first. Thanks for the awesome videos.
I would agree with some of the others that the ZV-E1 would make more sense for you. I think for you the biggest selling point would be Active Dynamic Stabilization since you do everything handheld. Huge difference between the A7Siii (besides the AI processor, better skin tones, better AF, touchscreen, LUT previews, Flexible ISO, and really good built-in mic). LOL... I shoot the a7rv and ZV-E1. I have a Smallrig cage on that has a great added grip.
I need some help… looking to upgrade my sony a6400 to the a7riii or a7cii. I’m photography centric, but looking to get into video and am on a budget (used).
Been waiting for more receent reviews on this camera and finally I found one! I really want to focus on video, short burst noncommercial work, would you recommend the ZV-E1 over this?
I'm still very confused on whether to pick A7IV or A7CII I'm moving from APS-C to my first full frame and can only buy one. I love the form factor and the design of the A7Cii but I can't decide if the lack of dual SD card slot is a big enough reason to pick one over the other. Probably one of the most important decisions in my career(I'm still in my early career). I need advice as I am going to do professional photoshoots.
Corrupt SD cards is so overplayed by people. I've shot hundreds of thousands of photos and never had an SD card go wrong in any way. Don't sweat it - the a7Cii is an amazing pro camera.
Im into the c2 because its small. I wanna travel & shoot so its a perfect side cam next to our A7iv. With a vintage lens on the c2 is almost as compact as my old Panasonic GX8. Love that with full frame sensor. And yes I use that, most of my work is on events so the difference is literally night & day
The ZV-E1 is probably a better match for the A7S III - same sensor, you get your custom LUTs, the AI chip, dynamic active stabe, false colour, lens breathing compensation, the controls are more video centric, you get to keep your 4K 60/120 with no crop, much better built in mic with a deadcat, etc, etc, you can add a cage if it's too small (but it's pocketable which is insane!). Many tangible advantages over the A7S III at an insane price. Only downsides are no EVF, LCD is poor and single card slot.
@@TeppoHaapoja It has 2 dials on the back, but yes a front dial would've been nice. I set the rear dials to shutter and exposure, and if you press the ISO button it changes the dial to that temporarily - so it's really not bad. The completely overhauled touch interface is also rather sweet when you are in front rather than behind the camera. Or do you mean the top dial to switch from say aperture to shutter priority? - I mapped "Shooting Modes" to the centre button to instantly access those and all my custom modes, so it's press centre, press down to jump to Custom Mode 2 or Aperture priority and bam, it's there. Not to say it's perfect but it's surprising how much better it is than the A7S III in so many important ways at half the price!
@@DigiDriftZone I agree too. I mapped "shooting modes" to the record button on the top b/c I use the shutter button only and needed to do something with this button LOL
The a7cii is based on the a7IV senior so not a good comparison to the a7iii which is older tech and menus. The original a7c was also using the a7iii sensor.
Agreed, I have been looking to buy a camera for the past 3 months and there's so much gear out there that I end up buying nothing. Why don't they just release one camera good in everything instead of having video line-ups, photo line-ups, hybrid line-ups, compact line-ups, vlog line-ups, etc... All I want is a decent camera with great AF to record my cooking / baking videos, and occasionally record videos when I'm hiking...
It is not "cool" that the EVF is too bad, it is not "cool" that the camera do not have a joystick, it is not "cool" that the camera only have first electronic shutter, it is not "cool" that the camera have fully articulating screen which makes the camera thicker, it is not "cool" that the camera is priced too high !
So I'm trying to find a small compact full frame "photo first" camera to replace my ancient Sony NEX5n while still matching my fx3 video footage.... Is The New Sony A7CII Worth Buying? Seems kinda like a no brainier to me, but I guess its all about context. Although A7c ii seems kinda compact, this will inevitably crack me up compared to my truly compact nex 5n. As far as the dual card slot... YOLO! Usually in my life, lost data can easily be attributed to user error. IE: that one time i was using a micro SD inside an adapter and card got yanked before data was finalizing.... although it hurt, I can only blame me and my budget cards compounded with my impatience..... or I blame Sony!

I wish Sony would provide a dual card slot. One can be a micro sd.
Thanks, how do you find the size compared to the x100v if you put a small lens on it.

Yeah, the only bummer is the crop in 60fps! I think a closer battle would be with ZV E1 or A7CII, which one would you pick then? 😅
For some reason the A7CII felt better for me, maybe it was the 3 dials? ZV E1 I found it hard that you gotta mostly just use the touch screen
A7Cii hands down
Where about were you shooting? Looks awesome!
This was in a city called Turku here in Finland!
