    The A7cii is super appealing. I’m looking to move from a canon entry level 14 year old camera to something I can record my business product updates, interviews but also use it for both landscape and urban photography and this just feels perfect.

    Great review, although I'm not sure I'd call a center EVF "more professional." SOME of us (LOL) are old enough to have shot real film on Leicas and other rangefinder cameras, and not having to squash your nose against the back of the camera can be a plus, not a minus. Still trying to decide whether I want the CII or the CR, though.

    • @dunnadidit
      @dunnadidit  ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Haha thats a great point. My wording was a little wonky there that made it seem like the center evf was what I was referring to being professional... what I meant was that the more professional sony bodies typically have center evf's... gotta edit my scripts a bit closer next time haha.

      @@JesusChristSaves.why ACii ? I am trying to decide . Video not important for me

    • @JesusChristSaves.
      @JesusChristSaves. 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @Chris-13 Honestly theirs some drawbacks from the A7CR if you look into it on youtube, and the A7CII has a great 33mp sensor, with blazing fast autofocus, a great system with a new chip in it, that takes amazing photos, even the JPEGs strait outta the camera are wonderful! PLUS - if you need to use video, even at some point, you have that perfect hybrid of a camera. I am more of a photographer than I am videographer, and I would still lean towards the A7C II all day and I've rented the A7CR - and don't get me wrong, it's not horrible, but if I had to choose which one, it would definitely be the A7C II. It's great, fast, smart, reliable, great sensor, wonderful photos, even JPegs. And is the overall better camera. Don't let the (more megapixels the better) thing trip you up. That's not necessarily true, not to mention if you take 500 RAW photos with the A7C II - and take 500 RAW photos with the A7C R - your file sizes are gonna be way bigger to work with compared to just getting the A7C II with the 33mp sensor (and AI as well as other great features that you can mess with the highlights, shadows, sharpness, and everything you would do in post, in the camera) PLUS you have that option of the video, which is still gonna be a lot better than the A7C R, especially in low light cause of the less megapixels. Trust me man, you won't be disappointed

    • @Chris-13
      @Chris-13 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@JesusChristSaves. thank you for the detailed reply . I think I agree with you . I don’t really need or want the 60mp files .

    In July, I bought the OG A7C with the Sony 20-70mm lens. I knew at some point this Mark II was going to be released and wondered if I was going to have a bunch of buyers remorse for not waiting. I am happy I didn't wait. I've been so so happy with the A7C having upgraded from the A6500 that I was using since 2018. I'll wait a year or so and consider upgrading again, but I don't think this Mark II is drastic enough to make the jump or regret my choice.

    Thanks for a nice overview! Been really contemplating the A7IV but, with the decreased price and increased features of the A7CII thinking it may be my next purchase. • @dunnadidit
      @dunnadidit  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      When you're seeing my hands doing the swivel screen that's the a7cii. The shot from sony when I'm saying "we didn't get the swivel and tilt screen from the a7rv" that's the a7rv screen and NOT the a7cii. I can totally see the confusion on that one, it goes by pretty quick!

    as someone that's just getting into professional work and has the orignial A7C this makes it so hard to choose! I have never had an SD card fail on me yet and the better Autofocus etc seems more appealing that having the backup SD card. But all professionals seem to 'need' to have the back up. I've got no idea what to do!

    • @dunnadidit
      @dunnadidit  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thats a tricky one! The extra card slot is kind of like having insurance... you don't need it until you do, but you're glad you have it at that point. As for autofocus, I would be lying if I said I didn't wish all of my personal cameras had the ai chip (FX3, A1, A7IV) but the autofocus on all of those cameras is also still pretty great.

    Hi,thanks for the video.
    I really like the image quality of this camera but at the same time I think that I' m going to achieve better results if I buy the Sony A6700 because of the greater depth of field of its sensor.
    Do you consider the Sony A7C2 an easy camera to shoot with when shooting landscapes and cityscapes or is it required a very refined technique and lenses that perform really well at small apertures?
    I don't know if the IBIS and the great number of focal points the A7C2 has,make easier to get very good results when shooting scenes that require great DOF.

    Does the 4K60fps cropped mode on the A7cII reduces and affects its lowlight capabilities or is it just a frame crop? Cause im still battling between getting the a6700 (coming from a ZVE10) or getting the a7Cii to move to full frame and make it worthy the extra money. But if the 4k60fps of the a7cii is gonna perform the same as the 4k60fps of the a6700 in terms of low light no point in putting the extra cash for the a7cii.

    The A7C came out and I rejoiced, that is, until I saw it in person and the specs. Not yet. The release of the A7CII is what I wanted, a compact camera that I can take places and not have it draw attention to itself like my old Nikon F2 would. It has everything I need, so I'm happy. Now that it is selling like crazy, I'm going to save $$$ to pay cash and pick one up around Christmas time. This is the camera I wanted, far more than the A74 which was almost there for what I want. The guts of the A7R5 made all the difference. Now I can focus on important things like insects, birds, people, animals and planes, trains and automobiles.
    BTW, having a EVF centered on the body doesn't make it more professional. All those Leica owners are going to want your head on a pike for that remark.

    This is pure marketing strategy: life cycle management. The older expensive cameras will get a smaller suit and lower price tags, some add on gimmicks to generate interest and some feature cuts to keep the costs low. Same crap viewfinder and screen or no viewfinder at all. That's why their older (big) models would not be sold at discounts, keeping their value longer.

    Feel like my A7iii is going to get rehomed for an A7C ii/R. I'm tired lugging it and all the glass up a mountain for hours. Downsizing while still keeping full sensor seems like the best idea and it's unlikely you REALLY need dual card slots unless you're doing weddings (and disk drill is also great insurance for single SD peeps). I feel like this is the way of the future for a lot of folks. I'll miss the full on "cushioned" EVF though 😅 sony now just needs to put out some tiny lenses and it'll have a MAJOR Leica competitor (yes, I said it, yes I know its not like for like but for those unwilling to drop 10k it would be a valid option).

    Sony’s current release schedule is kind of frustrating. Since the ZV and C lines come out last, they end up with all the best software features of the current generation, whereas the better physical bodies of the main lines come out first with fewer features.
    So you end up having to choose between the top end physical features, like body design, EVF, and card slots, or top end software features in tiny cameras with no storage redundancy and poor/no evf
    On the plus side, it’s saved me money on camera upgrades, since I keep wanting to wait to see what’s in the next camera lol

    If it's missing the focus joystick, do you have to use the touch screen to move the focus point around then? I was heavily considering this camera up until that one thing. I almost exclusively use the EVF to shoot, and having to take the camera away to adjust focus points will be a pain

    • @GordonMillner

      A bit late to maybe tell you this, but you can set up the screen as a touch pad and use your thumb to move the focus point whilst still keeping your eye up to the viewfinder. • @dunnadidit
      @dunnadidit  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They’re not wrong! There are a few things that can cause issues with higher megapixel cameras for video. First of all, to get 4k or 1080, there are processes that downscale the resolution, the more pixels you have and have to downscale, the more possibility for problems and artifacts. Sony does a really good job with this but it is still there. Secondly, when you have high megapixel readouts like that, the sensor can read out slower, causing some rolling shutter issues. Not sure specifically how the cr does in that category but that COULD be something to consider.

      Honestly, if you're happy with what you're getting from the CII, I'd save the money. The only real reason to go for the CR is for the extra resolution in photos, but for most people 30MP is more than enough.

    • @dunnadidit
      @dunnadidit  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It kind of depends on what video codecs you want to shoot and how long you go between dumping footage/photos. I generally seem to like either 128 or 256gb and I never have a problem. And since I use my dual cards as simultaneous, I don’t actually have any more storage than just one slot

For me it comes down to the need to use an external recording monitor. I have two good 5.5-inch on-camera monitors without LUTs. If I upgrade to the Atomos Ninja, that will run me an extra $600 used. I'll be fine with 10-bit video right now. I can set my white balance and exposure correctly.

      Hey! Great question! Photos aren’t typically thought of in that way, but it is much more resolution than 4k in the end. To shoot 4k, you need about 12 megapixels. This camera has 30 megapixels so you’ve got a lot more than what you would need to make a 4k image.
