I dont get why people even compare them, completily different cameras. ZV is a vlog-based videocentric camera that has 12 mp and no EVF, while A7C is a compact 33mp (dope stills, good video) hybrid. They dont even slighty compare and are aimed at 2 different markets.
Wow literally just came home with mine. And look my favorite videographer drops a video saying your coming to Sony. I can’t wait to see what you do with this. Keep doing your thing bro!
You totally missed that the ZV E1 is more likely to overheat for longer form video content like podcasts, interviews or livestreams so it’s better for short run and gun clips especially with lots of movement
Photos, if you plan to use the camera as a hybrid camera you’ll get better photos with the a7cii over the zve1. The ability to shot 4K with crop sensor lenses/mode, Plus a slightly better form factor use the a7cii.
Definitely one of the best a7c II videos. and there is a LOT... glad that you shared this video... this is a REAL REVIEW of the camera... thanks men!! saying hi from Argentina
I’m new to your channel and it looks like you primarily produce video content. The a7c series of cameras is meant to be a more portable version of Sony’s entry level cameras; the a7 series. The a7cII is really for the people that want to shoot both photo and video, and want the camera that does it to be small and light - usually for travel. Ultimately: if someone came to me and said they wanted a jack of all trades camera that they could take on the road for travel, this is what I’d recommend to them.
Get yourself the Phantom Luts and shoot slog3. Protect your highlights and if it looks good, it is good. Yes there are a lot of picture profiles but most only use slog3. It’s much easier than it used to be. Can’t wait to see what you make!
When you've been doing video so long you forget people use cameras for stills 😅 I've been using the a7c since it came out, i wanted a full frame, rangefinder style body for so long because vintage lenses get cropped so bad on crop sensors. I use it for video primarily, but also a ton of stills when im at a competition for work. It's a great little hybrid body. (flats are better than drums)

5:40 - Sold my ZV-E1 for the A7Cii was Electronic only shutter (less hybrid) banding under LED + 33mp for cropping into Pics. I hardly use super high FPS for video and the dynamic active I find really limited to walking straight forward but not panning at all
This is actually like my dream camera! Love the look of the body and just great for hybrid use! Since you’re testing out the camera and it is for stills and video you should make a video testing out the photo side! Not sure if you’re too into that realm but would love to see it! Also, flats are better than drums!
I bought this camera a few days ago. I am not a professional content creator just a hobbyist who shoots primarily stills. I was upgrading from the A7II. I bought this camera to get a smaller form factor and most of the bells a whistles of the A7IV. I could see how this camera could not be for everyone but I think it suits me just fine
I have the ⍺7C mk 1 and have been enjoying it since I bought it. The ⍺7C II has address most of the shortcomings I felt that the 1 had. 4K60, front dial, slightly bigger grip, slightly better EVF, and the new menu system + touch! Planning on upgrading to this and handing down the mk 1 to a family member. It DOES suck that the 4K60 is cropped unlike the ZV-E1 (it's mostly geared to video, and I'm a hybrid shooter), but at least it's present so I can deal with it. Oh, and FLATS ARE BETTER THAN DRUMS.
You will definitely like FX3 or ZV-E1 even better than A7Cii. Having the same quality across 24-60-120 fps is just amazing! No crop, no resolution loss or quality loss. And I just love this 12mp sensor. Also the lowlight performance even better. You just have to remember to stick around two native ISOs
flats are better than drums . i like that sony is giving options. i feel like this camera is slighty better than the a7iv but the a7iv has the big hdmi. canon is the only other brand offering full frame 4k60 around this price point. Panasonic s5 ii 4k60 is cropped. I think this camera is better than zve1 for photo, but zve1 is better for video. both fire though.

Love this review.. I'm actually selling my A7IV for the A7CII, its got all the features I could ask for to give professional results in a compact unassuming body.. pair it with some apse glass and its a perfect travel cam. It can be a bit intimidating carrying my A7 iv about. I love that Sony fit these features in such compact bodies
I would give the FX3 a shot my guy! it might not be the BEST photography camera, but for video? a great value , the ZVE1 would be great if it didnt have a weird overheating history
@8:00 Yup. Sony Launched too many cameras with the same sensor and same feature. Specially in the apsc line up. example: a6400, ze10, a6100 In regards of the a7IV vs zve1/fx3. Con: The rolling shutter on the a7IV pro: Image sharpness. That 7k downsampled to 4k is 🤌🤌🤌🤌.
The a7iv/a7c ii is solid for stable sticks shots (oversampled), but the rolling shutter is pretty heavy for gimbal movement or handheld. You’re sacrificing rolling shutter for the 32mp sensor. Yeah ZVE1 would be a more video move since it’s basically an a7s iii on slim fast Rolling shutter values: A7s iii/fx3/fx6 8.7ms R5c/c70 15.5ms A7iv/a7c ii 26.8ms
THIS is the experience I did NOT get with these tests, it’s really hard to experience rolling shutter when you’re filming yourself in a tripod. Thanks for this info
@@YCImagingI shoot fast action automotive video with my A7iv and the rolling shutter is very noticeably when doing quick pans. I absolutely love it for photos but definitely considering an FX3 or something similar for video strictly. Global shutter I doubt will come to mirrorless cameras because it’s technically “older” technology, but in my kind of work it’s honestly really needed to combat distortion. Genuinely considering a RED Komodo X just because of this.
This is another reason I got the R6 II over the A7IV. 2x faster rolling shutter (about 13ms on the R6 II) and full frame 4K60... and much faster photography speeds too.@@mcintosh.motors
Zve1 is for vlogging with short format video. It has overheating issues. The a7cii is for hybrid shooters. It has 33MP for photos also. Zve1 is basically just for vlogging.
So excited to see you got the A7CII! I’ve been using the A7C for photography and love it, but I recently picked up the ZV-E1 for more video work. I was debating between the A7CII and the ZV-E1 though. Still not sure if I made the right decision lol Flats are better than drums
Sometime I'm thinking about downsizing my gear, for social media content, cause rn I'm using a BMPCC6k everyday, but I was looking for a smaller size kit that I can use everywhere.
The only reason I would like an A7CII, being a ZVE1 owner, is for photography. ZVE1 has issues with banding because of no mechanical shutter. 12 megapixels is sometimes limiting when cropping photos. I like the A7IV, but want a smaller body.
s5ii's 4k60 is aps-c crop as well, the only camera up to 2500usd (apart from the Z-VE1, that offers full frame 60p is actually the canon R6II, whit the Canonr R6 mark I being really close with 1.07 crop, and the Nikon Z7II with 1.07 as well.
Had a canon ae1 back in the 70’s. Just got back into photography. Was going Canon. Ran across a LauraBC, who just switched to Sony from Canon. I got the A7C2, trying to figure out the menu. Im very happy with this decision.
I agree it doesn’t make sense w a7iv and zv e1 and a7r4. If you need a hybrid go w a7iv. If video centric zv e1. If photo centric go with a7riv. I see really no benefits w a7cii except for slightly lower price (just get a7iv used).
Always keep in mind the purpose of the camera. The C-series cameras are the compact full frame bodies intended for travel and enabling folks to roll with a high quality setup that won’t kill your back. They give you _most_ of the important features of the full body versions (the A7C II is the travel version of the A7IV but with the AI chip added). It is a very flexible hybrid camera for photographers that need to be light and nimble. However, it really doesn’t make a lot of sense putting heavy GM lenses on it - unless it is your only camera. I’m not a pro but I’ve been shooting on Canon longer than my adult children have been alive (since 2004). I dabbled with Sony with the A6600, then got the A7C (original). Now, I have the A7RV. I suppose I’m all in at this point. I still have my Canon 6D which I might keep for astro and give my other Canon gear to my kids. The A7C II is a hybrid travel camera. It’s neither a photo nor video centric camera - it does both decently well. It’s not a full body with all the custom buttons and dials. It’s a travel camera that happens to be full frame. It’s a darn awesome one too.
Hey man, amazing video! Just wanted to know something... do you decrease the sharpness on your videos (in post) or while shooting (in the camera itself) ?? The footages look kinda soft compared to the one I get from my camera. Don't get me wrong, it looks nice hence asking...
As a travelling camera for both photo and video, the A7cii just had a better balance of both worlds Vs the ZV-E1 imo. Can’t speak for everyone, but personally, using any camera in the ZV line for photography was very frustrating at times.
Ahh, just went through this same conundrum. I currently have an a7iii that I love for photos in studio or in a pro environment. But I find the body too cumbersome and indiscreet for travel/daily. I tested the original A7c for daily/travel and I actually used it. A lot! So I like the body of the original A7c but I want the updated features of the a7iv. And since this will be more of an on-the-go camera, I’d also find value in the additional 1.5 stop of IBIS, reduced weight, imported LUTs for my videos, in camera time-lapse, and auto-framing - most features I’d only use outside of a studio setting. In studio or events, where I shoot photos, I’d honestly still use my a7iii. Photo tech isn’t so leaps and bounds advanced that I need more than my a7iii for photos. If I did more pro-video however, then I wouldn’t even look at the a7iv. It’d be FX3 and up at that point.
Flat are better than drums. My favorite youtube creator. Your storytelling in vlogs has gotten so much better over the years. I'm loving this camera but my budget isn't there yet. I'll save for it but should I get this or a6700 for a more versatile camera? Or keep my a6000 for backup for taking photos
Why a7c ii over the zv-1? No anxiety regarding over heating with regard to long form content. Super-35 mode is a bonus, especially as a travel camera, literally turning any FF lens into a crop. Crop more also feature decently fast rolling shutter performance. Both, ff and s35 modes have over sampled footage. And, for those photo moments, having a mechanical shutter is most welcome.

Flats are better than drums. Also I think the EV-1 with its 12mp sensor is more video focused and the A7Cii with the 33mp sensor is a hybrid for photo / video. If largely or entirely a video shooter then EV-1 is the choice at $2,198. But if you want photo plus video (although not as video feature rich as EV-1), then choose the A7Cii. Two cameras, same price points, but different use cases. I’m ok with that. Since I want one camera to cover my photo and video use the A7Cii is the better choice for me vs the EV-1.
This is the image i'm looking for I have a Canon m6 with a Sigma 16mm 1.4. I can't seem to get that crispy video look to save my life. i was looking at the a73 but this a72 looks good.
Your talking head footage in the second half of the video looked really great to me! The in-car wobbles had me thinking this camera was going to end up being a dud, but that later image quality really is damn nice... Flats are better than drums! :)
does ISO12800 works same way in night or low light condition? I meant, in day light , may be noises are killed but i ridiculously guessing that at nights at that ISO , noises just stays..

I'm a Canon fanboy too. I know that there are other companies, but at this point I have a mountain of EF and RF lenses and I've memorized the stupid menu, so I'm never going to change lol
still using my a7iii as I see no need to truly upgrade yet, Sony just dropped 5 cameras in the last year almost. another 2 years and the price of these new cameras second hand are gonna be looking reallll nice, maybe then I'll pull the trigger on the a7cr, 61mp would be beast for sure.
the s5ii does not shoot 4k60 full frame. also people buy this over the zve1 because its a better hybrid camera, 33mp over 12mp for stills. dont know why that needs to be said.

The A7C was originally a stills camera. That’s why someone would buy it over the ZV. They prioritize the stills and evf experience.

Why not use a7iv instead? Same megapixels. 4k 60. 10 bit.
I just got a Sony a7c hopefully it’s a little bit similar
I'm new to content creation and watching your videos has helped me decide on some equipment choices. Thank you. FLATS ARE BETTER THAN DRUMS
im a hybrid shooter... used the zve1 and it overheated with burst shots of 4k50p. so--- went to the a7cii and pretty happy as of now
Reckon it's just as sharp in video and low light as the a7iv and a6700?
Why a7c ii over the zv-1? No anxiety regarding over heating with regard to long form content. Super-35 mode is a bonus, especially as a travel camera, literally turning any FF lens into a crop. Crop more also feature decently fast rolling shutter performance. Both, ff and s35 modes have over sampled footage. And, for those photo moments, having a mechanical shutter is most welcome.
This or the ZVE1 is my next upgrade. FLATS ARE BETTER THAN DRUMS
Flats are better than drums 😅 YCImaging man, you've been one of the first youtubers that inspire me day in and day out, I can't even remember when was the fist time I've watch your videos. I still remember buying one of your transitions packs for Premiere. Just wanna say thank u for all these years creating for youtube. If u ever feel to come down to Brazil, and need a tour guide/cinematographer let me know man, much love!

Thanks you for the great thoughts. What’s the use case for the a7c2? Those of us that are mainly photographers need to do some video (me).
Bro that auto framing scene is incredible! Buying just for that holy mackerel.
Also is that the Mac Studio you’re running? 👀
I’ve had my canon 5d mark 3 for 10 years and need a new camera but thinking a7c ii would be a nice purchase how’s the low light performance, what flash do you use?
Flats are better the drumbs... (coming back to add to this once I finish the video) Great video thank you for your opions and test as always. I clocked you teeth looked different but couldn't understand why... They looked great either way, as long as your happy. I hope your happy in life 😊

Do you still have to transcode all your footage just to get it to work in Premiere?
Thoughts On A7SIII
omg i had invisalign & i always go through this when i see old pics & vids lmaoo ... looking good!
flats are better than drums
have you tested out the Lumix S5 mkii?
YCImaging ZV1 can't do 15/1 shutter if you use for photgraphy it does not have Bulb it start at 30/1 it is more for videographers
Notification squad 🎉
Flats are better than drums. Also I think the EV-1 with its 12mp sensor is more video focused and the A7Cii with the 33mp sensor is a hybrid for photo / video. If largely or entirely a video shooter then EV-1 is the choice at $2,198. But if you want photo plus video (although not as video feature rich as EV-1), then choose the A7Cii. Two cameras, same price points, but different use cases. I’m ok with that. Since I want one camera to cover my photo and video use the A7Cii is the better choice for me vs the EV-1.
Does the 7cii come with inbuilt flash ( like the one on a6400)
You might like the FX3 better.. imho.
This was a dope and very informative video. I was def looking to purchase a new camera and your vid helped me with my decision. FLATS ARE BETTER THAN DRUMS!
Man your part of the reason why I keep going and your education in the photo/video game has been inspiring. Keep going! I use a Canon 90d & Black Magic 6k Pro. I’ve thought about upgrading but with the knowledge you’ve dropped I’ve been able to stay relevant without upgrading.
Flats ARE better than drums.
Honey lemon pepper wet
Because of the view finder and the 33mp sensor on the A7cii...thats why you'd choose it over the ZV-E1...A7cii is more hybrid driven
I'm a Canon fanboy too. I know that there are other companies, but at this point I have a mountain of EF and RF lenses and I've memorized the stupid menu, so I'm never going to change lol
What car mount are you using?
Looking at the a7cii for something really compact to bring around everywhere. I'm not really a video person either. Flats are better than drums!
Yeah man I use the A7iii and its been an amazing companion
A great camera
@11:15 now I see what’s with all the “FLATS ARE THAN DRUMS” comments!
GREAT video brah and for the record FLATS ARE BETTER THAN DRUMS 😆 💯tho
still using my a7iii as I see no need to truly upgrade yet, Sony just dropped 5 cameras in the last year almost. another 2 years and the price of these new cameras second hand are gonna be looking reallll nice, maybe then I'll pull the trigger on the a7cr, 61mp would be beast for sure.
EVF, EVF,EVF 😂 Photographers approve. 33mp are great on the photo side. Cheers man.
The the a7C is a do it all hybrid camera. The zve-1 is for video only pretty much.
I’m trynaa decide between this or the a74 I’m stuck
If your shoot professionally, A7iv, if not, A7Cii for the ai-autofocus.
@Yclmaging_3. kick rocks bot
the s5ii does not shoot 4k60 full frame. also people buy this over the zve1 because its a better hybrid camera, 33mp over 12mp for stills. dont know why that needs to be said.
Dope video as always and good to catch up your content again.
Flats are better that drums.
Flats are better than drums😅…keep the consistency, it’s really great seeing you back on the grind with these videos💯🙌

great video helped me made some decisions on some equipment I appreciate this thanks FLATS ARE BETTER THAN DRUMS
Which sd card you use ? 4:05
Good video man as always, 4k 60 cropped is always frustrating but i see they want to match it to the a74 as people will say why a74 cropped but a7c not , either way no crop is the way to the future
Photo capability/33 MP of A7CII is the main difference from ZV-E1 and more low light capability of ZV-E1/Video oriented
Since I am still on my A7iii I have been looking for what body to jump unto next.. the a7c models are models that I'm kind of like just ignoring to be honest.. well this video just piqued my interest!
FLATS ARE BETTER THAN DRUMS lol
Somehow i got used for bmcc4k, i know its huge, but i cant go back to any other brand with that quality
I think the footage is pretty good, definitely wondering about the deep shadows but seems cool. Thanks for the video.
Brother, your end video talking head looks way better than the beginning of the video!
