Thank you for putting this video together for us. As you hinted, can we get this video about wearing in the south the GG writer who lives there? Many thanks again.
I found "How to Wear White as a Menswear Color" to be an exceptional video. A similar video on off-white menswear would most definitely be exceptional!
Yes, a video on pairing different shades of white and a video on wearing white suits in the southern US would be greatly appreciated. White trousers are almost as versatile as blue jeans in certain settings. Thanks for another lesson.
I love wearing white trousers all year long (S/S and sunny A/W days). The film The Great Beauty also taught me that white trousers with a dark jacket in the evening is such a fun way to present myself. To address the issue of the pockets showing through the white cloth, I found that a cotton canvas fabric works perfect for this. The pockets don't show through, the trouser legs drape nicely, and I've found is it still very breathable in hotter weather.
I find white to be a bold choice as well, and tips on how to appropriately weave the choice in lack of colour (or splash of it in the case of off-white style) is very much something I wanted more education for, to sophisticate my growing style accordingly.
@@gentlemansgazette Lots of white in your outfit helps to stand out, so if you don't want to draw attention away from a certain guest or spectacle, then to avoid a full on suit. I typically fashion myself with white dress shirts, and prefer the neutral grey or black suits, and save my bold statements for colorful, detailed neck ties. I have simple clothing tastes, as one might expect.
My high school put together a last-minute Spring Formal ball; I had already acquired a vintage '40s tux in black with all the necessary accessories and formalities of a tux for the summer Prom. Thusly, I decided an off-white dinner jacket to change things up was perfect for the Spring ball. Least to say, it did turn some heads, and it was quite new and interesting to wear such a bold colour than my usual dark suits.
Many thanks! I am still new to wearing black tie, hence my religious watching of your channel! I decided to keep with some classics: a dark red, silk rose boutonniere, a white linen pocket square, and discreetly designed Canadian Air Force shirt studs and cufflinks due to my affiliation with the youth Air Cadets up here in Canada. It took forever to find the right shoes, but a thrift store luckily had a perfect pair arrive a few weeks before the Spring ball!
Yes, all videos posted by the GG Crew are extremely inspiring! Navy and white is the perfect combination for summer! I would love to hear what the Southern gentleman has to say on the matter.
While visiting Port Douglas (North Queensland) in the summer months, we were browsing through some shops near the harbour and I noticed a white linen suit. It was amazingly light in weight and loosely woven. It would have been incredibly cool. I often regret not buying it because I have never again seen anything like it. I imagine if you wore something like it with boat shoes and a Panama hat it would be quite comfortable in the heat.
I find white/off-white chinos to be a great perennial option as an Arizonan. Pairs nicely with basically any color and you can go exceptionally bold and look put together in a classical manner or go restrained but still feel comfortable and sharper looking than most other people.
Great video. I love winter white wool Shetland and lambs wool sweaters in the winter. Also, I have a pair of white buck wingtips from Church's Shoes and a white buck pair of plain toe shoes from Nunn Bush for summer. I do have white colored cotton chinos, white shirts, linen trousers and linen shirts. Also, white Levi's 501, and white carpenter jeans. I always contrast my whites by also wearing something with color. I also used to wear an ivory dinner jacket like Bogart in the movie Casablanca. This year I purchased a linen blazer in off white.
Alas, those "winter whites" are the only ones that suit my skin tone to begin with, and I'd love to see them treated on more often. Especially so, since they're so much more practical here in Austin, Texas.
I really enjoyed this video. Would definitely be interested in either or both of the other possibilities--hearing from your writer in the South, and hearing more about off-white.
When we had to don our whites in Navy boot camp back in the early 1970s, complete with canvas leggings, I was taken aback at how our skivvies were visible through the fabric when out in the sun of Orlando. I also didn't like how six square inches of undershirt were visible at the opening of the jumper top.
I am reminded of the episode in which Jeeves informed Bertie Wooster that a mysterious enemy had insinuated a white jacket into his wardrobe. Jeeves had removed it No doubt that was a particularly unfortunate jacket, more suited to waiter on a cruise line The modern gentleman must hope for more wit than Bertie. Studying the Gentleman's Gazette is the best way to develop the Inner Jeeves (As a lady with an interest in costume history, I watch you for fun.)
You are always such a delight . Shall be saving your video for all about season of white. Living where 9 months is the dolour of Brrrrrrrrrrrr We seem to go more for warmth than colour. Thank you again. Keep well
Would love a video specifically about hot and humid wear (both dressy and casual) for places like Texas (where I am), Florida, and the south U.S. Especially, in summer. Three-season suits, here, are appropriate for autumn-winter-spring rather than over summer like the rest of the US. Please, do not forget the formality of the guayabera.
You're in luck! Our recently released guide to classic style in hot weather should help you out :) www.gentlemansgazette.com/summer-hot-weather-outfits/?
On the other hand, a light blue dress shirt is another commonly worn color. Almost every men has them, from job interviews to office work. Can you please make a video about light blue dress shirt then? Thanks
Still love the look of white bucks. My son is in the market for shear sucker so hopefully he’ll get the shoes too. He has white linen slacks, threatening to pair them with a jacket. Too much MV 😂 fun fact: my dad wore white Gucci loafers in summer
Please more videos on hot weather. I live in Cypress, Texas and we reach past 100 in high humidity so we also have a lot of rain. An yes it is also hot in the rain.
At 70 I have always wore white trousers during my lifetime in the Summer months. From White Jeans to white dress slacks. Never having worked in an office setting I have been free of constrictions and dress codes. Always the recipient of compliments to my dress choices. Especially from some most attractive women. I dress white pants sensibly with shirts, jackets, and sweaters, giving some contrast of color in overall appearance. The old ZZ Top song is true in my experience that girls are crazy 'bout a ' Sharp Dressed Man'.
In Sweden an all white, long tie, is usually worn by close family at funerals. Of ofcourse context, material etc plays in. But i can’t help associating it with the funeral tie.
Great video! Very informative! Would love your input on when it would be a good time to wear white shoes! I was thinking a “medium” to “medium dark” tone blue (long sleeve button down) with khaki pants (non pleated) & white socks. I am trying to dress classier to catch up to my wife’s style. Feel free to disagree! I just need to find a good way to wear white shoes.
Interesting perspective, as usual --- but I enjoy wearing my white linen suit in different contexts and I disagree with some of your opinions about styling white suits. Wonder if you have ever done a video focused on white linen suits and various light-colored linen/cotton suits. (I also enjoy my yellow linen/cotton suit, which might not be appreciated by the staff of gentlemansgazette.) Perhaps the fact that I live in Atlanta, GA, now has something to do with the way my clothing has evolved since moving from NY.
What is your opinion on wearing vietnam era white sailor's jacket with the top 2 buttons unbuttoned and the collar flattened into a lapel and with a bowtie on the shirt underneath?
@Gentleman's Gazette I am planning on having an off white linen suit made for summer wear. I was wondering if you think it would be a good idea to have it made half lined or unlined? I'd like it to be cooler as it gets hot where I live, and I have a low heat tolerance. However, I am worried my shirt colors might show through where it isn't lined. The made-to-measure site I use recommends that the lining be white prevent the contrast see-through effect.
Is it good to boldly wear white suits when everyone is wearing more muted colours if you want to have all the eyes on you? Im from the mediteranean area so it really isnt that unusual to wear white all around
I bought a $ 1,000 tux for my wedding, and my fiancé spent $5,000 on her wedding dress, she said “how many times are you gonna wear that ? You could have rented one !” I replied how many times are you going to wear that dress ?!, TOUCHÉ
Host is like I always was, stayed stylish throughout all his years, I bet he stays in 🙀. I would like to do a style show with my Uncle Dewey, whom with my grandfather, I learned most of my dress style, trying to follow their tradition.
I have noticed and many of your viewers that when showing white items such as shirts, shoes, etc. they are on a white background. Is it possible in future videos to use a black or darkish coloured background to hightlight items? As I/we can't really see the item properly!
As a dude whose go-to used to be all black, I want to get some white linen for the summer. I just don't want to look like I'm trying to look like a rich dude stepping off of a yacht...even though that's what I'm going for...Just don't want to look like that's what I'm going for 😂 HAHAHAHAHA!
Please pardon the digression from the topic at hand, but I would like to request a video on the subject of what larger men can do to look well put together. Those of us who are more Churchillian or even Taftian than those for whom fashion is commonly designed still want to look good, but often things that look dapper on a model make us look ridiculous.

White is the New whole color wheel;)
Jajajajja
It seems like Preston never does a bad video. Well done again!
I love all ths details he puts in; what matches, it's history, book and movie references.
Its funny that I prefer Preston over the other hosts.
Is there even a bad video on this channel? 🤔 🧐
@@eltigredetejas2328 no fault to find
Yes, a video on pairing different shades of white and a video on wearing white suits in the southern US would be greatly appreciated. White trousers are almost as versatile as blue jeans in certain settings. Thanks for another lesson.
Yep. Back in the day (Not sure if still stand now), white suits in southern states was a sign of power and wealth.
I love wearing white trousers all year long (S/S and sunny A/W days). The film The Great Beauty also taught me that white trousers with a dark jacket in the evening is such a fun way to present myself.

Would that video of the wearing white in the South. It's love to see a series of videos on regional gentleman's wear
Please talk about the white suit more! Us living in the tropics needs a touch of classines.🌞

Do make a video about the stone and natural colors from the article you have!
Ivory chinos are definitely nice for year round. Thanks for the video!
Great video. I wore my white espadrilles on Labor Day. I love still utilizing the Labor Day excuse to breakout my white items.
An issue regarding the Caribbean/North & South American use of white-material, suit types ETC. would be very interesting.
I'm about to move to Arizona so I would love a video on white suits.
You do not see too many people in Arizona wearing suits....stand out for sure ! Even in business mostly Clean, neat casual......
Now that was a useful video. Gentlemen’s Gazette does not let you down. Well done.
Thank you, Mark! Glad you enjoyed :)
Both of your questions are a yes
White trousers and a boating blazer for Sumer wear is a great look.

Looking very dapper as usual👍 I only wear White very sparingly myself. Mostly dress shirts, pocketsquares and crewneck tees.

Rock a nice pair with a navy blue t shirt brown suede loafers and some slick shades.... Don't think that's too rich guy vibes 👍😎
Is it ok to wear after Labor Day?
You forgot hats, e.g., white linen flat caps for the summer.
I love white and pale colours the only problem is each time you go out they can get dirty without you even realizing.
