The way is long to go, believe me.... This girl is truly talented and she is the best belter ever *_(not for the way she sounds but for her effortless power),_* but except this, there's not a vocal approach that has become her signature. Her repertoire cannot be only belting/shouting/screaming, you got impressed by this girl only when her voice goes up, minus that, nothing special the most can feel.For this reason today she doesn't stand the comparison with the greatest, she's not complete at all. It makes literally no sense to be like Sohyangs A6 in headvoice and Mariahs in whistle because you can’t compare lemons to oranges just because they both make juice, in the sense of they’re making the same note but in very different ways stylistically. And that’s not the same logic, if the singer has belted Bb5/B5/C6 etc, then the comparison is apt, if Sohyang had produced the E6+ in whistle register, then the comparison would be apt. But you don’t compare a C6 in falsetto with a mixed C6 because yes they’re the same note but they’re produced differently and thus the comparison makes no sense. Further, this video doesn’t mention Sohyangs mix register above A5, because they’re notes Mariah can’t/hasn’t hit, but the issue with this type of video comes up therefore with how different Mariah and Sohyang are, it’s not fair to Sohyang in a comparison to not display notes like Bb5/B5 because they’re her SIGNATURE NOTES and thus her strength lies in those kind of notes. While I get Mariah can’t hit those notes so whats there to compare, the fact remains that Mariah and Sohyang can’t be compared because Mariah could only really hit F#5/G5 peaks, and Sohyang belts B5s regularly, whereas, Mariah would hit extraordinary whistles and Sohyang doesn’t whistle, they’re stylistically TOO DIFFERENT and they’re strengths lie in different areas.

Nguyễn Thanh Hà Transitions are definitely a tie with the edge to SoHyang. Her transitions are arguably better than Mariah’s because SoHyang does have a more connected voice and no vocal breaks can be heard when she transitions.

Objective Person No she doesn’t. Mariah can resonate lower than Sohyang by a couple notes but, for the most, their proficiency in that area is the same. Mariah has a lighter tone that low but she’s not BETTER.

And yes Mariah didn't belt beyond g5 during her prime but her live vocal acrobats are hard to follow by anyone...Her agility, runs, and riffs are very hard to copy for a simple and plain voice...Mariah's style is just amazing and pleasing to the ears instead of annoying and predictable...No one ever sings her song as delicate as she sings them even the other singer has high range.
Sohyang's a great vocalist, has an amazing technique and resonance. But I just prefer Mariah's singing more. The tone, agility, musicality, etc., it's something i just adore so much. I'm not into extra high belting

Sincerely, Sohyang is as exclusive as Mariah. Just legendary but in fact Sohyang uses more her vibrato than Mariah. And that A6 !! Sohyang's A6 in head voice is also amazing, like Mariah (and her she uses her whistle register, so 👏👏 for my Queen Sohyang !). And omg, Sohyang has so improved in her low notes, beautiful ! Mariah is an artist altogether, can't compare her to anyone. Sohyang is amazing without a doubt but...when Mariah hits F5s, F#5s and G5s...it doesn't sound like screaming. Head voice was never Mimi's style/preference but she still sings those notes extremely well. Mariah will always be the cherry on the top AS WELLL AS all the layers of the cake. Complete package.

And yes, an inconsistent vibrato can indicate terrible belting technique or straining. If Mariah's vibrato noticeably disappears in her upper belts, she's practically screaming/yelling at that point. If you have too much tension, you won't be able to produce vibrato. An inconsistent vibrato tells me that she opted to sing high, but her voice didn't naturally sit high. Why do you think she has nodules? I personally think it's because she used to strain a lot.

It’s interesting to hear all these differences in the voices, like how although Mariah and Sohyang both have light-sounding voices, Sohyang is the soprano here and Mariah is the mezzo. Sohyang is able to repeatedly and consistently sustain climatic notes from G5 to Bb5, while Mariah’s tend to reach between E5 and G5 over their respective careers and repertoire

I dont understand why lambs are Always on the "strain police" thing, Mariah sings with good pression after D5, since she's a pop singer. Sohyang have a lot of twang in her singing, that's why she can go so high, she start to add pression at F5. Both of them are very good, but lets not forgot one uses headmix sustaining almost all notes, while Mariah uses Upper chest focused/balanced with phrasing or doing runs. Both of different types of singing. If anyone likes a tone that's high and sounds sharp or screaming powerfully go for Soh hyung, You want high note but have more weight and raspy tone with more runs go for Mariah.
Mariah's part of the vocal trinity and nobody can surpass that... but Sohyang is still one of the best singers of all time, just not one of the first three.
Where Mariah resonates Sohyang is low larinx (is also healthy for her). An example of that is the C5, Mariah almost sounds like she’s hitting a whistle note and sounds clear and Sohyang seems almost like a low note. Also, Mariah stops her sustains at the notes that Sohyang resonates the most. Also Mariah has the most incredible whistle voice in the world and Sohyang uses head voice instead. I love both of them and I’m always going to be a big fan. Any vocal coach to tell me if I’m right tho 🙃

The thing about it is I've always loved Mariah but I can't think of many times I've seen her use her full range live granted this comes from not seeing all her performances I'm happy to be corrected whereas every live show I've seen Sohyang do she uses every range she possesses so I think she edges it.And just to say vision of love still gives me chills to this day.

Mariah takes 3rd Octave. Both are close but, Mariah takes 4th Octave. Sohyang takes 5th Octave, C6, and C#6. Mariah excels in lows notes and falsetto/head voice while Sohyang excels in the chests/mixed notes.

SoHyang is INCREDIBLE. But Mariah is INCOMPARABLE. 1. Tonewise- Mariah Carey really knocks tone out of the park. She doesn't rely on twang in any part of her range. SoHyang uses a lot of twang that makes her tone sound a tad metallic. Mariah's tone is soothing and buttery all through. Example is on F5: both resonated and supported F5s but I can bet you'll all listen to Mariah on repeat. 2. Technique- Tie. Both are excellent. Period. 3. Range- Mariah 4. Consistency- So Hyang 5. Stamina- So Hyang 6. Support and Resonance- Low notes and Mid belts: Mariah; Upper belts and Head Voice: So Hyang 7. Ease- Tie 8. Agility- MARIAH CAREY 9. Control- Mariah Carey. You got to hand it to Mariah for maintaining effortlessness even in her highest live note Bb7 in 1991. SoHyang's control is limited to what she can support. She supports till E6 so from E6-A6 she is singing on her capital rather than on her interest. 10. Musicianship- MARIAH CAREY. Never does Mariah sound like she's oversinging. SoHyang can get a little overzealous with her high notes, her pitch gets spotty especially in undubbed recordings and her riffs are hit or miss with the music. Mariah on the other hand utilizes variety of textures and improvisations that are completely musically ingenious. Her runs and riffs SEAMLESSLY FIT the music she is singing because she really aims to understand the tempo, mood and emotion of the song because she writes her own music. In this day and age very few match the musicianship of Mariah Carey. Very very few. Overall two excellent singers

So Hyang emotes and touches her audience more than any singer. 99% of her videos are live. Almost every reactor is in tears when they listen to her. Almost every voice coach is in tears. Go listen to her full songs not just the belting completions. She's a CCM singer who has toured in over 60 countries singing in churches and special events. She has turned down several recording contracts the last last one being Sony Records 3 years ago.
Mariah at her prime by far. I’m not familiar with Sohyang but based on these clips, it’s easy to tell she is an awesome vocalist. But I do find sohyang quite shouty at times especially her high belts. Mariah’s tone, musicality and expressiveness are more my cup of tea. Mariah just sounds so unique, angelic, and her belts are so clean and powerful but never overpower the music. She has her unique style, and of course her writing too. My two cents 😊

They're* not equal in falsetto; Mariah utilizes it more proficiently (with immense agility (riffs, runs & transitions) whilst Sohyang is more proficient with head voice.

And yeah exactly how can you compare two different registers on the notes? It makes literally no sense to be like Sohyangs A6 in headvoice and Mariahs in whistle because you can’t compare lemons to oranges just because they both make juice, in the sense of they’re making the same note but in very different ways stylistically.
And that’s not the same logic, if the singer has belted Bb5/B5/C6 etc, then the comparison is apt, if Sohyang had produced the E6+ in whistle register, then the comparison would be apt. But you don’t compare a C6 in falsetto with a mixed C6 because yes they’re the same note but they’re produced differently and thus the comparison makes no sense.
Further, this video doesn’t mention Sohyangs mix register above A5, because they’re notes Mariah can’t/hasn’t hit, but the issue with this type of video comes up therefore with how different Mariah and Sohyang are, it’s not fair to Sohyang in a comparison to not display notes like Bb5/B5 because they’re her SIGNATURE NOTES and thus her strength lies in those kind of notes. While I get Mariah can’t hit those notes so whats there to compare, the fact remains that Mariah and Sohyang can’t be compared because Mariah could only really hit F#5/G5 peaks, and Sohyang belts B5s regularly, whereas, Mariah would hit extraordinary whistles and Sohyang doesn’t whistle, they’re stylistically TOO DIFFERENT and they’re strengths lie in different areas.

Objective Person No she doesn’t. Mariah can resonate lower than Sohyang by a couple notes but, for the most, their proficiency in that area is the same. Mariah has a lighter tone that low but she’s not BETTER.
Objective Person slightly better due to resonating lower consistently, but she doesn’t DESTROY Sohyang there. Sohyang definitely more so “destroys” Mariah at belts and head voice than Mariah destroys Sohyang in midbelts.
And yes Mariah didn't belt beyond g5 during her prime but her live vocal acrobats are hard to follow by anyone...Her agility, runs, and riffs are very hard to copy for a simple and plain voice...Mariah's style is just amazing and pleasing to the ears instead of annoying and predictable...No one ever sings her song as delicate as she sings them even the other singer has high range.

Sincerely, Sohyang is as exclusive as Mariah. Just legendary but in fact Sohyang uses more her vibrato than Mariah. And that A6 !! Sohyang's A6 in head voice is also amazing, like Mariah (and her she uses her whistle register, so 👏👏 for my Queen Sohyang !). And omg, Sohyang has so improved in her low notes, beautiful ! Mariah is an artist altogether, can't compare her to anyone. Sohyang is amazing without a doubt but...when Mariah hits F5s, F#5s and G5s...it doesn't sound like screaming. Head voice was never Mimi's style/preference but she still sings those notes extremely well. Mariah will always be the cherry on the top AS WELLL AS all the layers of the cake. Complete package.

And yes, an inconsistent vibrato can indicate terrible belting technique or straining. If Mariah's vibrato noticeably disappears in her upper belts, she's practically screaming/yelling at that point. If you have too much tension, you won't be able to produce vibrato. An inconsistent vibrato tells me that she opted to sing high, but her voice didn't naturally sit high.
Why do you think she has nodules? I personally think it's because she used to strain a lot.

It’s interesting to hear all these differences in the voices, like how although Mariah and Sohyang both have light-sounding voices, Sohyang is the soprano here and Mariah is the mezzo. Both of them are very good, but lets not forgot one uses headmix sustaining almost all notes, while Mariah uses Upper chest focused/balanced with phrasing or doing runs. Both of different types of singing. If anyone likes a tone that's high and sounds sharp or screaming powerfully go for Soh hyung, You want high note but have more weight and raspy tone with more runs go for Mariah.
Mariah's part of the vocal trinity and nobody can surpass that... but Sohyang is still one of the best singers of all time, just not one of the first three.
Where Mariah resonates Sohyang is low larinx (is also healthy for her). An example of that is the C5, Mariah almost sounds like she’s hitting a whistle note and sounds clear and Sohyang seems almost like a low note. Also, Mariah stops her sustains at the notes that Sohyang resonates the most. Also Mariah has the most incredible whistle voice in the world and Sohyang uses head voice instead. I love both of them and I’m always going to be a big fan. Any vocal coach to tell me if I’m right tho 🙃

The thing about it is I've always loved Mariah but I can't think of many times I've seen her use her full range live granted this comes from not seeing all her performances I'm happy to be corrected whereas every live show I've seen Sohyang do she uses every range she possesses so I think she edges it.And just to say vision of love still gives me chills to this day.

Overall Sohyang was better. Mariah is best too but she's was better in low key and whistle. Different colour voice and tone is about taste. Every person is different. Emotion and feel it's decent. 10. Musicianship- MARIAH CAREY. Never does Mariah sound like she's oversinging. SoHyang can get a little overzealous with her high notes, her pitch gets spotty especially in undubbed recordings and her riffs are hit or miss with the music. Mariah on the other hand utilizes variety of textures and improvisations that are completely musically ingenious. Her runs and riffs SEAMLESSLY FIT the music she is singing because she really aims to understand the tempo, mood and emotion of the song because she writes her own music. In this day and age very few match the musicianship of Mariah Carey. Very very few.

Go listen to her full songs not just the belting completions. She's a CCM singer who has toured in over 60 countries singing in churches and special events. She has turned down several recording contracts the last last one being Sony Records 3 years ago.
Mariah at her prime by far. I’m not familiar with Sohyang but based on these clips, it’s easy to tell she is an awesome vocalist. But I do find sohyang quite shouty at times especially her high belts. Mariah’s tone, musicality and expressiveness are more my cup of tea. Mariah just sounds so unique, angelic, and her belts are so clean and powerful but never overpower the music. She has her unique style, and of course her writing too. My two cents 😊
