- ANPR: Automatic Number Plate Recognition. Most police cars in the UK are equipped with a camera that scans all number plates, and if a car or bike has a marker on it such as no Insurance, stolen, etc... it will sound a warning and show the plate on a monitor inside the police car.

Your a good rider RJ. Like your style
I had no idea such a system existed. Fascinating and a little alarming!
All standard. 1080/60 no protune. Nothing else is corrected or messed with. I do not use the plastic case.
on long Enduro's, by far the KTM 530 EXC, on very technical stuff, the Honda CRF 450. Not an expert, but I think the 530 with some minor mods will serve you well as an everyday bike.
AAAaand a huge sigh of relief was felt by all :-)
Alot of the Traffic Officers are really nice about it, when they have a strong feeling that you're not going to cause them any grief they'll be the nicest Men/Women you'll ever meet. Infact, alot of the Police Officers I come into contact with are very nice and polite. Ofcourse, you may pull the short straw and get stopped by somebody that's all up in their own arse.
Thought he was an autograph hunter... You're famous mate.
Happened to me once when there was a police car behind me, and I had just renewed my MOT and it seemed that it was appearing without one, it gave me goose bumps when they stopped me..
kew bridge and chiswick high road. Love it
Cheers fella. How do you mount it without the plastic case? Great work with the vids by the way. I cut my biking teeth in London, honed my gap chasing ability with three years dispatching and then a few years commuting. Live in Belfast now but I get to do it all again vicariously through your vids. Thanks for bringing back some good memories and for the great views of my home city.
What settings are you using on your GoPro? Love the ambience and the way it's lit at dusk. Am trying to achieve the same effect to film a blue light run after sun down.
Talking about visor fear. It's illegal to ride woot a helmet but not illegal to ride without a visor, so if your worried about it, you can just unclip it and put it in your bag.
Hey RJ i watched your FAQ vid and was wondering what would you say has been you favourite enduro bike to ride and would one be a reliable everyday bike? much appreciated if you can.
Is that a good thing?. I think I like being able to be confident when I go through a green light.
Is your tinted visor illegal?
You wont be saying that when your bike/car gets stolen and this manages to pick it up.
People with more expensive cars also pay more for insurance, and they also have a higher own risk which they'll need to pay for prior to receiving any compensation in case they are in an accident.
So it's already geared towards the different vehicles that people own. In addition the longer you go without making a claim with your insurance, the cheaper it will be to insure a vehicle.
I, for example, have 5 years without making a claim from my insurance, hence why I receive a discount.
An obscure law that says you can't have it. You can ride without one though...
Thought that was only after it gets dark? otherwise it's just the same as sunglasses, my helmet actually has a clear visor and an internal tinted one so that it can be tinted or not depending on conditions
It's a frame mount, you can find it on the web. If you have a GP black, get on my FB page and enter a draw and be in with a chance to get a free test version from deadcatdot. Cheers :)
They dont normally pull you over if its a really sunny day, i always wear mine and just carry a clear one incase they do.
Thanks, reported and taken down.
He's a known Blue-Waffler. I've seen the car outside my ex's house before. About time they caught up with him!
Quick Quiz - Fixed ANPR cameras at the roadside record your journeys on any major road, commuter route, within towns or in/out of towns. You're unlikely to travel much without being tracked (your mobile phone company is tracking you anyway, sigh).
Quick Quiz - How long do the police keep a record of your journey in their central database?
This is common in most countries. Insurance is important.
And a silly law at that. I wear glasses for Glaucoma which are just as dark as my tinted visor and can see perfectly at night while riding. I think the whole dark visor thing comes down to the cop that pulls you over.
In Germany too - and that's a good thing. I sure don't want to be crushed by someone who can't pay me off afterwards! No insurance, no registration - in fact you even need a short-period-insurance card for the way to the registration office. Otherwise it'll get expensive if they see you without valid registration plate.
It's everywhere. here too.
awesome thanks
It may be standard on certain types of police cars, such as vehicle patrol cars but mostly the police use crappy old vans and patrol cars here in South London and they have not go this kit fitted.
Evo Lucas that's actually a road policing unit vehicle
They are not illegal in the UK, but have to be trademark stamped and allow at least 50% light through them. The majority of cops won't bother about them unless you are riding around like a complete tool.
Exactly, I prefer having ANPR systems. It's not spying, It's just doing the same job a person is capable of doing, except it scans about 20 cars in the time it takes 1 Officer to get the information on 1.
They read your plates here in NY also
It's standard that every police car has them.
is DarkVissor illeagal in UK?
The current law says the legal limit for light transmission, and the same for a car windscreen, is 70 per cent.
But changes are on the way and it’s heavily rumoured by senior police staff that visors marked " for daytime use only " letting through a minimum of 50 per cent light will become legal under the new legislation. Unfortunately we can’t tell you when this ruling will come in to force, but it’s likely to be sometime this year.
But the way it stands at the moment, the only real legal visor is one carrying the British Standard kitemark.
Of course, you can always use a pair of trick Oakleys under a clear visor to protect your eyes from the sun - even though you can’t take them off if you come up to a tunnel. It doesn’t make much sense, but it is legal.
But with the law about to change, we managed to get hold of a new device that’s just started being used by police forces in the UK. It’s called the Tintman and basically uses its own light source to calculate the maximum available light a visor will let through.
The test makes interesting reading as some supposedly legal visors, like Arai’s very light smoked visor, widely recognised as legal because of the BSI kitemark, doesn’t actually fit the current standard and only lets through 57 per cent of available light. But it’s not only that which makes this law such a farce. We tried the Tintman with a pair of Oakley sunglasses and amazingly, despite being completely legal under a clear visor, they only let through 14 per cent of available light.
To give you some idea of what you’re wearing and how legal/illegal it is to use on the road, here are some examples we tested with the Tintman using the centre of the visor to test the available light coming through:
n Suomy iridium - 11.4 per cent
n Arai light smoke (kitemarked) - 57 per cent
n Arai clear (kitemarked) - 88 per cent
n BMW System 4, dark smoke - 15 per cent
n Roof Boxer, dark smoke - 16.2 per cent
n Roof Roadster, dark smoke - 19.2 per cent
n Bob Heath, daytime use smoke - 50 per cent
n Shoei daytime use, light smoke - 57 per cent
n Shoei, dark smoke - 20 per cent
n Shoei clear visor (kitemarked) - 89 per cent.
I understand how the current model works, I wouldn't suggest it should change if I didn't know how it worked.
While the cost of the car is factored in, it's effect on the final premium isn't a fair one. Someone with a 200k car pays less now than they would if everyone had a 200k car, people with 2k cars pay more now than they would if everyone drove 2k cars.
With the pay for yourself model people get a fair price based on the decisions they make.
It's illegal to have a dark visor on your helmet at night. RJ must have been worried as it looks like the sun is going down in the video. And as far as I am aware they are not standard. Only the higher performance cars such as the BMW estate etc have ANPR. The normal run of the mill Astra does not. The ones in manchester also have it written on the side the ones which have the system installed.
I know that's the current model but I was saying it should be so that if you want insurance, it's on your vehicle.
Why should people driving a car worth 2,500 have to be paying for the fact that others choose to drive a far more expensive car. Insurance should be optional and it only considers your car and driving history.
I'd understand an argument for compulsory insurance solely for injury compensation when the injury is one that will affect the person for a long period of time.
I like how you pull away in (2nd gear?) low revs to cover your loud exhaust arse!
why no siren??
The way that black car changed lanes into you I really wished the cops were after that one... and I was rewarded.
don't care about visors or any stupid stuff like that. Your bike looks and sounds amazing .I would love a video of you really opening it up . with surround sound I was on the back mate!!
everyone in australia has them britian would for sure
great
Now we never know what happened :(
Doesnt that law state that you are allowed to have a tinted visor down in the day, but at night it must be raised?
you must have insurance that covers damage for the orther drivers in europe and you can have insurance that covers damage for you as well, but it is not required and very expensive.
What's the difference? With electronics they just don't make mistakes
At least here in the U.S., some states have a law against tinted visors (on helmets) and have a limit on tinted windows (on cars). In DC it's supposedly because of their association with drive-by shootings (cars, at least), but in general I think it's because it limits your vision when it's dark out... But then, they should make it a rule that's only in place during sunset to sunrise - not all the time. Stupid, in my opinion.
Cant believe its illegal to use dark visor in UK
please tell me you knew that ?
I am well aware of what a police state is...
I was getting so excited for an RJ vs Police in a high speed chase and then... its the car next to him who they want to pull over... Oh well nice video anyway:)
I would not mind being stopped by police in London at all. Where are you off tonight? oh just going home. We need to have a chat about whatever. Ok lets go and have some coffee and talk about it. lol
Without*
Some people need to look up the definition of 'police state'...
so having a tinted visor is banned in the UK, does anyone here know what the rules on these are in The Netherlands?? :p
I think they're interested in criminals, not the paranoid.
Your car will get towed and you can be fined up to £5000. If it goes to court you can also get disqualified.
@CycleGaz i have no idea where the revenue goes fella
And suddenly that Nuda has a very quiet exhaust :D
Where do you live and what happens if say someone uninsured hits someone?
Personally I think compulsory insurance shouldn't exist, if you want insurance then it's for your own vehicle. Like to know how it works where you are.
wonder what would happen if they scanned your plate, RJ. Probably sound a warning for "too much badassery" :)))
What are the police like there? In Australia we generally have pretty good ones, they wont be assholes or anything and you can actually talk to them without them arguing.
I live in New Zealand, not to sure on insurance since I use a company car. Just shocked that they fine you for not having any, I think we are the same as Australia but I can't b f'd looking.
Advanced motorcycle trainin
Act casual RJ, act casual
Damn, that's some high tech Gestapo shit!:)
Yes top 10:)
Its because we never have any sun ;)
hahaha I hate the "visor fear" ive had it, I just pop it open and hope as they can see my eyes they'll leave me alone :p
Good Boy
2:00 Ou ... I was thinking that he is from Czech Republic :( .. nevermind .. main is that its a Škoda :D :D
You changed gears after 3500 rpm not to make sound
135.9 for fuel, cheaper in London than where I am!
Cops in Bosnia and Hercegovina are the best they dont give a shit about nothing :D
Funny how the fines they hand out don't go to them. So generating revenue for others?
The compulsory insurance is not for your own property. It's in case you hit someone else, and you damage their property. You should be happy that you have the insurance, because when you don't, and it's a serious accident, you will need to pay for the rest of your life.
Think about it. The only insurance that's for your own property is all-risk and such. For the rest, it's just to make sure that the other party, whom you hit, can be compensated.
wow that blows
Swedish police car!
jesus thats some serious technology fuck me lol
I doubt 'most' police cars have ANPR fitted.
Evo Lucas the majority do in London, with the exception of specialist (royalty protection etc)
That's not entirely accurate.
There's still a large amount of police cars without ANPR fitted.
I saw a Nuda in Rotterdam today, beautiful bike!
John Catt, a man who attended an anti war protest against the American arms manufacturer, EDO, in 2005 and was arrested under the Terrorism Act after his car was flagged up in the ANPR system would probably not agree with you. The data is shared and stored for many, many years and made available to even foreign intelligence services. You are being tracked regardless of any reasonable suspicion. Every journey you've ever made throughout these zones can potentially be retrospectively analysed.
Are you high? A police state??
It checks whether you are insured, have a licence, whether there are crimes linked to the registered owner, if the car is stolen, its one of the best technologies british traffic cops have, of course it is needed.
Those street pirates just love messing with peaceful people. 'Where are you off too tonight?' - Mind your own f****n' business. 'We need to have a chat' - No 'we' don't.
Should've stopped and asked the car driver if they wanted you to film the encounter for their own benefit/safety and to make sure the stop was made due to reasonable, articulable suspicion (as is not the case much of the time). Police have no power to stop members of the public filming them or incidents.

Found some of your vids on another channel. Thought you might want to know.
You will never ever get pulled over JUST for the visor. They will however chip it in as an extra if you get pulled over for something else like speeding or riding like a twat.
Haha RJ dipped haha.
Yes the police prob do it as an easy way to generate revenue, but to be honest I'd rather not have an uninsured, untaxed & unroadworthy car/ driver sharing the road with. Especially if I'm on my bike!
The only time the NAPR will activate is when the reg is already on the police db. The police do not gather any information from cars that are not on the police db.
The UK is very far from been a police state..
You haven't got the slightest clue.
Not quite, ANPR is connected to several different databases, from memory something like 6-7, DVLA, PNC, etc.
at least we do not accidentally shoot people dead every week
Not from the Police. But ANPR is being used to fill the pockets of people that have no interest in the welfare of the UK citizens, and are committed to taking as much money as possible.
That joke you made about Britain not being a police state was a corker, I think it went over most peoples heads.
Apparently you have no idea what you are talking about. Every little bit of information about your licence is already stored. They are not storing any additional data while scanning it on the street. They just have a program that automatically checks if there's anything on your licence plate.
It's way faster than pulling people over and doing random checks. Would you rather have your licence plate scanned and done nothing to it or be pulled over for 5 minutes for the very same reason?

It's a good thing. The only time you need to be bothered by it is when you're driving illegally in some way - no insurance etc. If you're clean, it's reassuring to know the police are equipped to deal with illegal driving. My only problem is that the courts aren't usually prepared to prosecute illegal drivers as harshly as they should.
