      I agree about speed limits in some places, although I think motorways you already get enough people bumbling along in the middle or outside lanes and nowhere near 70mph as it is. Also it’s less about how quick vehicles can stop and more about whether people are paying attention to the road around them and/ or reacting to hazards. A huge amount of collisions happen because people simply aren’t paying attention.

      Remapped? No.
      Do they have other upgrades? Depends, but often yes.
      I.e Firearms vehicles get upgraded suspension. They are driving around at speed (with majority of them being advanced drivers) in an effective "boat" usually an X5 or an XC90, with typically three assault rifles, ammunition and attachments locked away into a very sturdy, tough and secure gun safe either in the boot or built into where one of the rear passenger seats would be. That's before you factor in any other kit, such as the officer's kit bags (which can weigh up to 20kg each depending on how much the officer carries with them in their kit bag), first aid kits, crime scene tape, 5L of water for acid attacks etc.

    Archie, good to see you point out at 08:00 how good infrastructure design or lack there of it can affect the safety of others. Wonder of the police track intersections that have endless repeat accidents so to motivate the government to make a change to improve safety, because that would be at least retroactive of them?

    • @almostanengineer

      Police do check up on how your mot advisories are doing and if theyve developed into dangerous. Example my car PASSED the Mot but had 1 advisory that 2 front tyres had 2.0mm tread depth. I wasnt driving much and was gonna replace the tyres 2 months after but 1 month after im driving at night and i get stopped. All my details clear but the officer sees the advisory and checks the front 2 tyre tread depth. They were still above legal so i was told im free to go. It seems as though u have a raft of excuses that justify speeding ?
      Just because the person in front of u is exceeding a posted speed limit, it doesn’t mean u have to.
      If u r on a dual lane road, then stick left, drive to the posted speed limit.
      Stay out of the way of others who might be driving at above the speed limit.
      IMO driving at 50 mph in a
      40 mph zone, is excessive, and u should get booked.

    • @FROOB202
      @FROOB202 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@StephenFogarty2023 What you don't seem to understand is that the speed limit is an arbitrary value determined by some unknown person probably from the council as a cautious estimate for what any imbecile can drive at without crashing. Actual safe speeds are fluid with many different variables and "safe" is a judgement call open to debate. A skilled 30 year old driver in a new Ferrari 488 who has never crashed in good weather with no pedestrians around is a completely different scenario from a dithery 77 year old brainlet in a Clio with bald tyres and expired brake bads in rain at night. To the point where they are far more dangerous at 30 than the other guy at 50, despite which you'll claim the first guy is a danger and the second is a safe driver. I mean this video is a great example - no one would accuse the probable 80mph+ the officers were going in this video as dangerous. Why? Because we know they have a level of skill, that their cars are properly maintained and they have cars with decent stopping power. The speed limit is crafted with the idiots in mind, who can barely dress themselves let alone operate a vehicle.

      @@thefiestaguy8831 Hi, just waiting for confirmation of interview date. The recruitment process is now slowing down. I have been allocated a new buddy and she has been setting me interview preparation homework and I am doing mock interviews. I have been through a final interview in December but failed. I failed on two things…the example I gave was not recent enough and the second was about the rape case scenario…as an officer you are at a party…undercover reporter asks you about a court rape case you are currently dealing with..you accidentally release confidential info…next morning it is in the papers..what do u do? I explained a similar work scenario and explained I would expect an investigation..give my point of view..speak to all involved etc…no…I was told..you would be immediately sacked for DPA and that would be it. No investigation.
      Anyway, I appealed the fail but was told no. Lots of very high ranking personnel stated that the question should never be asked to a member of the public who is untrained…the question has now been removed from the interview process..it is what it is…
      I am now in full prep mode for the next attempt. I have undertaken 4 ride alongs, two with Luton and one with Herts and one with MET quick silver..I became a very popular crew member and was asked to return the next day by the officers!
      The one very important skill I learnt was the use and change of tone of the voice…how it influences the outcome…Inspector Vick at Luton police station said the officers must always approach the public at a low level and never allow the voice or action to escalate to a higher level. All MET officers carry a taser, parva spray and of course cuffs. I was amazed at how proud they all were that they have never used their taser..red dotted people..but never discharged because they used the power of their voice.
      I will drop you a message with the outcome. I am giving it 100% and will try to sell myself at the interview. This is what I want and it has taken time to get to this stage but sometimes things happen for a reason..I come from a recruitment background but yet failed….I hope that I am the candidate they are looking for..I can only try my best.
      It is interesting though..I was in Hoddesdon on Thursday…I had a meeting with the commander then went out to the shops. I turned the corner walking along the high street and clocked two female officers entering the coffee shop for a natter. I then turned the corner by the clock tower and saw a real aggressive bare knuckle fight. The gypsy guy had scrapped his van into the side of the fancy Audi. The Audi young driver saw the damage then started to box fight. It quickly escalated and the gypsy guy got the head of the young guy in a full head lock and was using his head to smash his own Audi car window screen. I ran to the coffee shop asking for the police officers…everyone said they were getting into an unmarked car over the road. I ran to them and said there was a serious bare knuckle fight getting out of hand and very serious. The officer said ‘okay.’ They then walked the slowest pace I have ever seen…the public were going mental..people in the cafes were screaming ‘ you are police..you need to run..’ .The older officer said, ‘no we are walking.’ Everyone was screaming at the police to run. I got in the middle of this fight as they were going to kill each other..I had my handbag and told them they were both too strong and would kill each other..I told them how sad I was to see them fighting..they both stopped smashing and beating each other to a pulp and looked at me very confused..the police arrived..the new recruit looked like a ten year old. Then all of sudden all police swarmed the area of the clock tower. I thought the female officers handled the situation very badly. It was embarrassing.

    I wonder sometimes if there should be a scheme to give out some replacement tyres for people who are unable to afford replacements. Something like a super cheapo but legal alternative like a '70s council loaf of bread. It frustrates me the general mechanical ignorance of Uk drivers, but I wonder if that would help some people not drive clearly dry rotted tyres. I used to work in an MOT centre and saw some good ones! I personally think if you can't maintain a car you should not drive it, But I understand plenty of people are in a pinch and we are in a society where some people need them to get around as the other services are so crap.

    Being blessed with exceptional eyesight means I can spot unmarked cars from great distances. Checklist: 1) Is it a relatively new car < 6 years old. 2) Does it go fast? 150mph is probably a prerequisite 3) Is it within police budget (£30 - £45k 4) Does it have unusual, sometimes tiny lights on the grill, back bumper or by the indicators? 4) Is there a 2nd rear facing mirror? 5) Is there a central unit on the dashboard stuck to the window? 6) Are there any tiny aerials? 7) Can you see anything unusual on the parcel shelf? Stay safe and always be observant. Don't be tempted to use your dopamine addicting mobile phone.

      You'd be awful at spotting unmarked cars in the force I serve in. A lot of our unmarked borough cars are cheap as chips... i.e £10-£15k tops. Typical standard unmarked Focus, or Vauxhall Astra hatchback. Some of the unmarked cars have no visible lights at all.
      I drove one the other day and you really wouldn't know it was fitted with blue lights until you activated them, there were literally no giveaways at all.
      None of the unmarked cars i've been in or driven in have a second mirror, none have a central unit stuck to the dashboard or the window, some of them have a DIN panel (control panel) in the centre console to control the lighting and siren, but that only lights up when the engine is on, and the unit itself is no bigger than a phone. Some just have two VERY discreet switches mounted into the roof lining, that literally just look like two buttons, one for rear lights and one for front, not labelled with anything that would give it away at all. There's nothing on any parcel shelves and very few unmarked cars have a secondary aerial.
      The only unmarked car I've seen recently that is a dead giveaway is an unmarked Mondeo dog unit, Ford Mondeo estate, relatively new, 68 reg if i recall, plain colour but it's got a white dome antenna on the roof which stands out like a sore thumb and gives it away to those "that know".

He should be using the official Police site for doing this, the one that logs his collar number, location and reasons for the checks - plus it is more accurate than something he found on Google.

    Hands down if you are behind the wheel or on a bike you should not have a phone in your hand. Where I'm from we are what they call an hands free state, the “Hands-Free” law which prohibits drivers from holding a cell phone or other electronic communications device while driving on public roadways.. Which means Bluetooth headset or run the phone Bluetooth to your vehicle. I would love to see more runs from a cops perspective of what they see while in an unmarked car because when people thinks there's no cop around they do a lot of dumb things. Okay just checked and no he's wrong unless the drive thru on a public highway which simply doesn't happen to get permits they have to own the land so no he's wrong you cannot get a ticket for being on your phone in the drive through. Public highway code isn't enforceable on private land.

    • @thefiestaguy8831
      @thefiestaguy8831 ปีที่แล้ว

      You didn't check it well enough.
      You CAN get a ticket for being on the phone in a drive thru, or supermarket car park.
      It is private property - yes. However, it is ALSO a public place under the provisions of the road traffic act.
      Why? The public have an implied right of access to the premises, which makes it a public place, if there's a road going through it, i.e a "drive-thru" then that becomes a public road. Because the public have access to it.
      So yes, you can still be prosecuted for using your phone in a drive-thru, but in reality you are not likely to.

      If the engine is on, it can be deemed an offence.
      You are technically deemed "driving" a vehicle if in control of the steering and brakes. So if you are sat in the driver's seat you have control of both of these things.
      This is why you can still be prosecuted when sat at a red light with the engine running, whilst you flick through your phone. Everyone says "But i've stopped".... in the eyes of the law and the true wording you are still "driving", you don't have to be moving.
