Hey Brooke, Let's say I didn't have $15 extra to start a pantry. I would take the items you put in your cart and buy 1 or 2 of those items at a time. Slow and steady would build up my pantry. Hugs

The variety at the dollar tree was a plus, but the variety of seasonings from Walmart, as well as the amount of the product, larger bottle of oil for example, and the diversity of the product, the yeast for example, will all allow for the variety of the future items with a smaller budget. Both great hauls, both lots of things to work with, I say it was a tie!

Having some vinegar in your pantry is a good idea too, to make substitute for butter milk, to add to oil for homemade dressings, to put in water when cooking shirred eggs. Some quick baking recipes call for a bit of vinegar to
activate the baking soda in the recipe. My favorite pancake recipe uses a bit of it and the pancakes are light and fluffy. Also I'm like my daddy was I need vinegar to put on my collard, kale or turnip greens.
I think going to both Walmart and Dollsr Tree to get your pantry items is best.

@@sonyafox3271You may need to reread that. They said to have the vinegar to make buttermilk, ALSO you could use the vinegar to mix with oil for dressing.. Those two things were separated. 😂

Something I would add to my pantry is canned tomato products. Sauce, paste, diced, etc. Also, I would scour the marked down meats section for reduced meat products to put up in the freezer. A pound of marked down ground beef, for example, could be divided between 2 or 3 meals. Combined with basic pantry staples, you can always make a Hamburger Helper type of meal. Also the reduced produce section can be frozen for meals as well. Much love and peace to everyone! xo

I noticed that the Dollar Tree spices now are labeled as containing GMO ingredients. Spices are so basic, they should not have anything in them except the herb or spice. Pass on the spices at $tree for me. If you buy one herb or spice every time you grocery shop, you will have a great collection in no time. My pantry is so far away from basic at this point, I'm not sure what I would pick if I were starting from scratch. Flour, sugar, salt, cornmeal, oatmeal, baking soda, baking powder, cornstarch, yeast, bouillon, shortening or oil. Rice, dried beans, macaroni, canned tomatoes. Milk, butter, eggs.

Love the hair... Every month I purchase a value pack of canned tuna and or chicken from Walmart. Since we have pets, I slightly over-purchase dry and/or wet food for them...can't forget them in an emergency! I stock up on pasta and pasta sauce every month from Walmart as well...their sauce is an excellent base to add to. Parmesan cheese...Walmart brand is a pantry see staple for us as well as their ranch powder in the jar. Anytime anyone's electrolyte replacement such as store brand pedialyte is $1, I stock up...as well as sales on bottled water. Good old pintos and canned veggies are always a must as well as canned soups for cooking or consumption...Walmart usually has them for 58 cents...cream of mushroom, chicken and chicken noodle are our go to's as well as canned pasta. Toilet paper and toiletries when they're on sale. That's the short list ! 😂

I personally skip on pancake mix and swap for an all purpose baking mix like Bisquick that can be pancakes, biscuits, dumplings, etc. I like multitaskers in my pantry whenever possible. Canned/jarred tomato products are a must in my family's pantry, lots of flour, sugar, dried Pasta and rice (in food safe moisture proof containers), shelf stable milk (for those emergencies when the kids don't tell anyone were close to out and leave a few tablespoons in the jug), Peanut butter, Jams/preserves, syrup (my gran used to make her own with Karo and maple flavoring), HONEY- I know it's not a cheap item, but if you find it on sale (especially if it's LOCAL ) it is so worth having on hand for cooking and medicinal purposes (and kept properly never spoils), canned or pouch meats, broth cartons, bouillons, dehydrated soup mixes, potato flakes (I know fresh mashed is better, but it makes a good thickener and sometimes when you're sick and need soft, safe, easy to swallow, and quick it can be your best friend), stuffing mix (multi-tasker- I crush it down and use it as pre-seasoned breadcrumbs or meatloaf binder, in addition to just being a side dish), applesauce (another multitasker- good for fruit intake, but also a good replacement ingredient when baking), canned veg of all kinds, and yes, some condensed cream soups. In the Spice/baking rack: The Holy Spice Trinity (for sure) plus, s&p, seasoned salt (or salt free) blends, Chili powder, cumin, ginger, cinnamon, curry powder, dried herbs, baking soda and powder, cornstarch, brown sugar, cocoa powder, Oil/shortening/bacon grease, yeast, and Uncle Dan's Ranch powdered dressing mix (it's the GOOD-good ranch- another multitasker in my house). And for extra flavor enhancement: mustard, mayonnaise, ketchup, soy sauce, vinegar, parmesan cheese, my son can't live without a jar of minced garlic in the house (and yes, I am that mom who has a bin of all the extra condiment packs and sauces from restaurants and fast food- cuz sometimes you need a little something and most keep well).

Walmart. I would skip yeast for my beginning pantry. Baking soda and powder. Vinegar
Yeast breads are tricky for beginners soda breads muffins pancakes. I can't depend on dollar store sometimes a product is there sometimes not. What is the difference of a pantry and a basic pantry? I must have salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, cinnamon. In my basic pantry I must have some type of milk canned or powder.
PS. flour and sugar I was distracted.Another reason I put soda salt and vinegar at the top of my list is because they are also good for cleaning.

My pantry musts in addition to those Brooke shared are white and apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, dried onion flakes, pre-seasoned diced tomatoes, and generic Mrs Dash. When I can find it, and it is a good price, I like to have powdered cheese or velveeta cheese sauce packets for Mac and cheese in a pinch. I mostly cook for one so I have figured out how to break recipes down to one or two servings. As for who won, I think it was a tie. For me, I make a list of what I am looking for and checking both places to see where the greater savings is, but I know many people do not have that option. Love you and your family and I believe you are a blessing to many people.

I would replace the paprika with cumin because I like the flavor better. I use ramen seasoning for bouillon and I have a TON of all kinds of flavors. When I make ramen, I just use a third of the flavor so I save 2 for every 3 packs I make. At thanksgiving, I found I didn't have any flour so I used corn meal for gravy making. Had to put it in the blender to make it finer, but it worked good.

When i was young, early teens i git to go to my furure sister in laws bridal shower, one gift i remember was a trash can, filled with all things to start a home. Pot holders, toothpicks, kitchen utensils, dish cloths, aspirin, first aid kit. Very thoughtful for first time couple on their own. Little things add up.

Love your new hair color, very becoming on you, and, I noticed your glasses are also new, or if not, the color of your hair and the glasses is stunning! Great move, Brooke! Dollar Tree will be the better deal, because your $15 will stretch further. Crossing fingers, hope I'm right.

Well if you dont need or use a lot of meat then its iffy.but if you can use canned meat then dollar tree. I have seen so good additions to frozen, cold foods. Another winner Brooke. 😊

    Wonderful video idea, Brooke❤
Our local Wal-Mart has the Great Value seasonings ( the $1.12 ones) in a barrel-type container. Don't mind saying I go elbow-deep to find seasonings for stocking my pantry! 👍🏻 Last shopping trip, I found out that 3 shoppers can comfortably rummage in it at the same time! 😂 Birds of a feather......

Brooke I love tgst you stripped some of the dark color out of your dyed part, the color now looks natural and it looks good with your beautiful white hair that’s growing in , and might I say growing fast you’ve got about 5 inches of outgrowth 👏👏👏and looking marvolious darling !! Truly Brooke your beautiful white hair is so pretty I think you’ll love it once it gets grown out enough to cut off all the hair that’s colored! And I think the best deal was at dollar tree? But I agree take $15 one week and $15 another week and get the best variety you can get at both stores ! Great video Brooke ! God bless ❤️🙏🙋🏻🌈🌈

I purchase the generic of Mrs Dash @ Dollar Tree. I use it in everything I make.
Not a huge eater of rice so I would not get those or Paprika. However this was a great video as it really makes one think.

I think that what I would do to compare Wal-Mart and Dollar Tree is to add up all the basic nutrients - carbs, fats, protein, and calories and check how that works. Usually, they have that information on the package. Your hair looks fine.

Your hair is gorgeous! This is a tough choice - spices and canned goods (veggies & beans) will be cheaper at WalMart.
Pink salt, crackers, cereal - cheaper at Dollar Tree. Shelf stable milk is wonderful. My Dollar Trees have had a lot of empty shelves lately.

Reminder Pink Salt has sulfer in it and if you have sulfa allergy its bad news. I suffer for 3 days after at least.

I'm an old bachelor living alone who is now semi-retired in a small town. I'm double digit miles from the closest Walmart, so I'll take Dollar Tree by default. There are also two Dollar Generals in my town.

Hair tone is 🔥 to blend in your natural ✨
That starter pantry from DT is also great when you go thru spices, sometimes there’s an all purpose seasoning on the shelf, similar to Monterey steak seasoning that has all 3 spices in there! That helps! I use it in everything.

Beautiful hair, love it! I've been coloring my hair a dark maroon for a while and I'm also thinking of lightening my hair. I usually just color my own hair but with the dark I have I may need to go get it done to start. We have a beauty school near me with great prices so won't break the bank.

I like the lighter hair color on you; it brightens your complexion. As far as your roots, if you want to go au natural, good for you, but my vain 70 y/o self keeps my hair dyed, LOL! I think Dollar Tree is a better deal for small sized pantry basics IF the items are in stock.
