    I love my pantry….we were asked if we could make meals for a family that had an emergency…we made 5 oven ready meals that night and never went to store…it was a blessing to have well stocked pantries, freezers, etc.

      We recently bought property and it cost us every single penny we had to scrape together the down payment. It was nice to have a stocked pantry when we couldn’t afford groceries. I don’t even think the kids noticed we couldn’t afford groceries for a while.

      oh my. my daughter hates boxed or canned food. i got her spoiled with from scratch. .lol. but reading your comment im thinking now that i have a job. i can get some pantry items and help feed others. Weird that im just realizing this b/c i used to cook for 200 once a month from my home to feed others in my low income community. And i cooked for homeless at my local shelter daily. Both were volunteer. And now that i live in a nicer subdivision I felt like i coldnt' do it any more. But yeah there are families that need help and i can do that as need arises. Thank you. Now my pantry items will come to good use

      I am interested to know how you pay for things when you go to the store. For example, if you go to Walmart, do you do six different transactions so you can pay for groceries, household, snacks, clothing, etc. separately? How does this work in the practical day-to-day life?

    • @SSanf
      @SSanf ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Amy2775Allow me to answer how I use this system. I combine all food and household into one category in my budget envelopes and rarely shop for both food and clothes in the same trip. I only buy clothes once or twice a year. I guess if I did food and household separately, I would probably just buy household every couple of months as a separate trip. Combining them works for me. You don't have to be inflexible using this system, but it gives you a very good understanding of where your money is going. That is good information.

    another good point about starting cash envelopes is too not start with 10-20 envelopes. you'll start to feel that your pulling yourself thin and it'll be too easy to pull from another envelope. start out with 1 or 2, just do those until they're fully funded, then add a couple more. i started with just 1, now i have 6. and all you really need is a notebook for your budget and some white envelopes. i make my own envelopes from craft paper from the dollar store and a 10 cent notebook from back to school sales. the whole point is to save money right?

      Hi, so I know this is really late! But I noticed your question and I budget in a similar way and I buy multiple categories at the same store. So I just buy it all on one receipt, then when I get home, I add up the things in each category and write it on the receipt. Don’t forget to add tax for relevant items. Then I write down how much I spent in each category on my notes app, and keep it totaled there per month.

    • @Hannah_MK
      @Hannah_MK 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I pay with a card though, not cash. So if you’re paying with cash, maybe it is easier to do a transaction per category!

    Last year I work as nanny most of my budget went in a envelop for Christmas sense I work in the summer time. I also save up 1,000 dollars I had my mom keep it in safe keeping for a surgery that I was doing that year. It does help to save up for other things that you might need that you don't know how to pay for it but then if you forgot about the cash that you got then you don't spend it as fast. I want to do cash this year to see how much we spend I think I do better with cash so that I'm not spending on more then what I just need.

  • @lizcarter6938
    @lizcarter6938 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I immediately pull out of the bank what is not needed in there for bills that are on auto pay. This prevents me from spending needlessly or when I'm bored browsing the intranet lol
    I put away $25 MONTHLY for meat. I then wait for whatever deal is offered at the more expensive stores. This is ALWAYS better quality and ALWAYS cheaper than walmart. I just got 1.5 pound packs of bacon for $5 limit 2 They also had the same week boneless skinless chicken breasts for $1.77 per pound limit 6 pounds. I spent $23 and was able to roll over $2 into the next budget. About 5 weeks ago it was ground beef that was on sale and I purchased 2 great big packages of them. I am NEVER without protein and by budgeting and waiting for it to go on sale I am not subjected to current pricing (hope that makes sense).
    OH there was also about a month ago they had a 3.5 pound bag of WINGS yes WINGS for $5 limit 2 again by budgeting my proteins this way we are able to "treat" ourselves when we want because we have that item on hand. OF COURSE if I am IN STORE and I see a good managers special I will pick it up but this is not the norm for me as I don't usually go into stores!! Right now there are Ribs on sale and the average package is $6 for a long strip of ribs again these will go into the freezer and boom if the urge hits us we can have that treat as we purchased it on sale, off season and weren't subjected to current pricing. again I hope that makes sense

    I just got my budget binder two months ago and I’m doing great so far! Mine don’t have as many pages in use but I think I’m doing like 4 inserts right now. Savings, vacation fun, clothing and birthdays. I know, I don’t have one for groceries but for me I have separate funds for food. Works for me.
    I have tried saving money by just leaving it in my checking account and not using it but it just doesn’t work for me! So I knew that having the cash separately in another location would do the trick. BINGO! It’s amazing how easy it is to save and plan!
    Thank you for showing us what this is and it’s changed my whole mindset and in a very positive way! Thank you so much!

    Have you heard of a Berkey water filter system? We have one and love it!! It’s a big chunk of change upfront but it pays for itself and the water tastes amazing! We saved to purchase ours and couldn’t be happier with it! Two filters last my family about 5-6 years and it ends up being about $0.03 per gallon of water. We’ve saved so much money since we got it because we aren’t having to buy several cases of water each week. The water where we live isn’t the safest to drink from the faucet so the Berkey was a game changer for my family!

  • @SSanf

    LOL! So I am NOT the last envelope budgeter on earth. Exactly what I do. First, I pay the bills and then divide the rest into savings, insurances which I only pay every 6 months, birthdays, Yule, future car repairs, medicines, clothing, gas, personal spending and so forth. When I have needs, the money is already put aside. I have a locked safe, fireproof place for the envelopes. Sometimes, I could swear I raised you myself.

    I’m an older viewer, prolly in Meemaw’s age group and I’ve always kept my kitchen stocked so I don’t need to run to the store. Obviously having a stock means you already paid for the items so to my mind it’s more of a timesaver than a money saver. At my age I have plenty of time but I don’t like to go to the store and buy things I don’t need or actually even want.

    This video is wonderful! My husband and I raised and homeschooled 5 kids on just his income. Our 36th anniversary is coming up and we started this type budgeting somewhere around our 3rd yr together. We LOVED it! It's allowed us to live almost debt free and it's such a blessing. You do have to learn to say "NO" to yourself or "WAIT" to yourself and I imagine it would be super hard to do if both partners weren't on board to make it function. Thank you for sharing the details with us. What a wonderful blessing :)

    Great video. I'm gettign paid tomorrow, so I've made up my budget. I'm pulling $25 cash to stuff 10 for household and $15 for health/beauty. I'm sending $25 into the account for my kids, $12 for Christmas, paying off my Ulta bill a whole payment early (yay!), phone bill and my tithes. Next week I only have $10 in bills, so I'm hoping I can pay off the two smallest charge accounts. I intended to pay out soem debts, but I want to go ahead and pay into Christmas, household, HBA, and soem bus fare. I'll spend some time to figure out what I can do. I'm hoping next week to have at least an extra $100 for debt repayment. I'll have a new debt account that will start coming due in February, so if I have other debts paid off I'll be ahead.

    I started this method this month. I'm really kicking it in next month. This month I didn't have much left after going the whole month. I did break the don't borrow rule. Meat went on massive sale this week and I had no grocery money so I took it from my savings. I made a note on my budget sheet so I'll repay that money using February's grocery money. I couldn't pass up the sale I got almost ALL of my meat for February. I'd have purchased more but didn't have the funds.
    Prego was on sale at my Kroger store this week so I also bought 10 jars o.o we have spaghetti like once a week.

    I'm not sure how old you are but your Parents or Grandparents taught you well. Even at my age of 43 I still do my bill the same way you do. And I use a calculator when I'm at the grocery store I never want to get to the check out and not have enough money every parent needs to teach their children. I'm not bragging but I have never been to a good pantry and around the holidays when the News show's people in like and they are driving a car or truck worth thousands it makes me angry and you see the same ones every month or every time they are giving out free food and they don't ask questions you can lie and say that you are picking up for 3 different house holds and no questions are ever asked that makes me anxious and my anxiety is out the roof ‼️

I got two on Amazon...for under $23 each!!!! So worth the price...because store brand block cheese...is very affordable...and makes recipes so much creamier!!!! Love your channel!!

    I like that money binder idea. I haven't used cash for anything for years. I am going to start doing that. It is so easy to go over at the store because I know I have the money on the card and I am like, well it's just $8... and then I do that multiple times. Good luck saving for your Disneyworld vacation. Do your research because they do require reservations to enter a specific park on a specific day now and you have to pay extra for some rides as they are no longer included with your day passes. So, know before you go to get the most from your time and money.

      That place is not child or family friendly, many abductions worldwide

      @@sandraking9650 I have been there over 20 times and it is both family friendly as well as child friendly. Walt Disney World is located in Lake Buena Vista/Orlando Florida which is one specific place, not "worldwide". I'm certain you have specific occurrences and references in mind, and I respect your opinion, but that has not been my experience at all. As with any place, you have to be mindful of your family's safety and be alert and aware, because you are correct that abductions occur worldwide.

    Oh yes I suggest looking at Alexapure water filter at their site or at bp earthwatch site. This filter costs less than Big Berkey plus filters more.i can't take this water with fluoride & chlorine. Be blessed

    Real talk on the fancy shape pasta... 99% of them are 12 oz boxes... its ok if you have a smaller family...butttttt keepcan eye out and weigh thr fancy shapes vs the box size. There is a kraft mac and cheeae like that too... noodles are 7 oz and the spirals are 5 oz... and the price is the same... companies are sneaky these days

    Do you literally check out and pay according to the categories and have a receipt for each category? I wouldn't be able to keep my envelopes straight! I just have one general envelope for anything grocery/Walmart because I'm lazy like L-A-Z-Y! LOL! 🤣 Loved hearing about how you budget and shop for the deals!

    You got some great deals for your pantry. Looking forwards to how you fix your $50 groceries for the week to feed your family. Saturday I came down with a cold, Sunday I thought it was the flu. Monday both my sisters got a cold. Tuesday we all felt worse. My son called and told me we should all take a Covid test. We did, and damn we all have Covid. Our 91 yo Mom died from Covid in July 2021 so this hit us kind of hard but we’ll get through this. Once again I enjoyed my morning coffee as I watched your video, Brooke. Debi in Vicksburg, MS. 🥰🥰

    Nice video- loved you explaining the envelopes! Mayo is insanely priced anymore! My New Year resolution was to learn to make any condiments from scratch when I run out from my stock- well I decided to try and make the immersion blender mayo it worked great! We used to use ALOT of mayo but recently we haven't been- so I am gonna just make it for the foreseeable future! I am in PA and your prices are so much lower than ours! I never see pasta sauce for that much on sale! Cheese is on sale for 2 for $6 here :(

      Cheese here on sale in Ontario Canada 🇨🇦 is 2 for 9.00 for a 400gram pkg. And that's on sale.
