10 Tips to Survive a Public Shooting or Attack

- How to Survive an Abduction or Hostage Situation? We all believe we’ll never get into big trouble. However, trouble doesn’t ask us whether we believe in it or not - it just hails, all of a sudden, like thunder.
You can’t know when or if you find yourself in a dangerous situation, but there are certain things that you should know just in case. You never know when everything can go wrong, so you should always be prepared to fight for yourself.
It's very hard to keep a cool head in such situations and not to let fear take over. And it's understandable - it's our instincts speaking. The only thing you can think of at that moment is to run as far as you can and don't look back. However, it is one of those situations that reveals your true character.

SUMMARY
- When you go to any event, take a few minutes to look around and check where the exits are. This is a good habit to have because it may help you to escape not only the attack but a fire, earthquake, or any other situation where you just want to get out.
- If it sounds like a gunshot or an attack, it might be a gunshot or an attack. It is always better to be safe than sorry.
- If you are lucky enough to get the opportunity to escape from the attack, don't even think about it. Run! There is certainly no shame in running.
- If you cannot escape or run away, try to find some shelter. Hide and start barricading using any heavy objects nearby.
- If you're in an open area, try to keep close to anything that can provide ballistic protection and be a serious barrier for the shooter to get you, for example, cement pillars, vending machines and anything else of that sort.
- Statistics say that it often takes about 10 minutes for somebody to dial the emergency services. If you were able to lock yourself in a room and barricade, or you're in any other safe place far away from the attacker, call the police immediately.
- You can use absolutely anything as a weapon, for instance, scissors, an umbrella, an old broom, or even a cup of hot coffee!
- Fighting is the last option when you have nowhere to go and nothing to lose. Aim for the face and the eyes, and gouge them.
- If you see somebody, who looks disorientated and too scared to act, try to help if you can. Grab that person when they start running, calm them down, and encourage them to be more cooperative.
- It might be a good idea to prepare yourself for any danger beforehand and attend some defense courses. You will learn how to defend yourself, how to escape from danger, and how to use ordinary objects for protection.

as a person who grew up in the generation of public/school shootings i always look at exits and spend the first couple minutes in a new class or area imagining different scenarios. Never realized how sad that was

This is sadly not a new phenomenon. We've had mass shootings that killed 22 in CA 1982 and 24 in TX 1984. Canada had a college shooting in 1989 killing 14. A whole decade before Columbine.
Learning parkour will also help. Wall climbing, vaulting, Dive through objects, Go through objects as fast as possible, running and escaping.

Osas it's survival of the fittest. That means the parkour expert will usually come second to the fussy little dude who scoped out the exits and shuffled off immediately after hearing gunfire and explosions. It's these skills that makes him fit for survival, although probably tiresome to be around

Stay away from the crowd if you can. Be always alert and ignore all distractions. The terrorists often plan to attack at one point to lure the crowd to another point for a bigger massacre, so keep calm and do not follow the panic crowd.

I pray you never need any of these tips but it’s better to be safe than sorry. Just to give you an idea though: Iraq, Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, the Philippines, Somalia, Turkey, Nigeria, Yemen, Syria, France and Germany are just a small list of places other than the United States that mass terrorist attacks have occurred. If you still don’t believe me so be it. I really want to live in the world you live in. Sadly I’ve seen too much to not want to be prepared just in case. Praying for you my friend 🙏🏾.

Even though my little sister thinks I'm over protective when were playing outside alone or walking I make different calls and signals if there's something wrong if it's a drill or not if there's a strange person wether we should hide in situations or run if there's really a very bad situation call our parents before 911 I go over things over again but my sisters life has to last and so does mine

I was with my friend and we were playing soccer while my mom was coaching my brothers soccer game and then this random person came up to us and told us he would be goalie for us and I wanted to go away cause I didn't know who he was but my friend was like you need to trust people more he's not even doing anything he's trying to help us. It is tragic that videos like this are necessary; however, so very glad that they are available to be prepared. I have always checked my surroundings in hotels, movie theatres, etc. for escape in case of fire. I now know what to do in case of a shooting.

Hey Bright Side, I watched the video yesterday afternoon and last night when I was sitting in my car in a parking lot, I heard a loud crash and saw that a car had flipped over. Everyone in the parking lot ran over to the car and I suddenly remembered what this video said about the average time it takes to call emergency services is ten minutes so I did just that. Later I had found out that no one had called them! Not exactly the same situation in this video, but thanks!!!

Can you also explain what is the difference between active shooter and the terrorist? I think from your point of view active shooter does not terrorize the people, he is just a lone wolf who have lost the mind.
And to answer your question an " active shooter" can be anyone. What makes them a terrorist is their intention. An active shooter may shoot because of a grudge or mental illness. A terrorist attacks for political or religious beliefs, and tries to scare civilians into not living their daily lives, or to disrupt way of life through undermining government or economy.

Better to be safe than sorry. My country has no terrorist attacks recently, but it is being targeted.
I live in NZ and it's still good to know some basic tips of what to do in the event of something like this happening.
