Great reviews. I purchased the AFL 172 analog. The eye candy was great, but I noticed the voltmeter flickering from 0 to complete discharge as soon as I started to fly the plane. Eventually, the battery was fully discharged, and the plane cut out and crashed. I have filed a bug report with the developer and have never heard back from them.
i had the same problem, its mainly because of flywithlua, remove this plugin or whatever expension plugin from x-plane plugin folder before flying the airfoil labs aircrafts, you have to learn flywithlua or what ever you usebefore using it next to all other addons, its also been said at least by flywithlua
I also purchased the sound pack. It is amazing but the volume level is so low. Any one know how to increase the volume? I have increased the level on my PC to max.
The Airfoillabs Cessna was pure legend and the best GA flying days I had several years ago, long before I could even VOR-navigate (GPS-flying only). I remember the propeller and many other things could be changed, there was some interactive photo of an awesome small dirty hangar surrounded by trees and bush as far as the eye can see to change the propeller and refill the oil and do many other things with that plane.... Not fully sure about that but I think I had this Airfoillabs masterpiece for a different sim back in the days when I was young and the world was full of wonders (I think it was for P3D) but I´m so glad to see this Airfoillabs masterpiece back and alive and kicking in the brandnew awesome X-Plane 12! edit: The removable engine cover and all the other details have now fully convinced me of this Airfoillabs aircraft!! Best propeller GA aircraft currently. :)
I'm a big fan of the REPs. Also, they didn't expect you to buy a new version with xplane 12, which is a nice touch I think. I never got on with the AFL 172, possibly the frame rate but I liked what the REP concentrated on more. Thanks for the video.
I purchased the Digital C172 Airfoil about a week ago and love it! Very impressed replication! How or where are you getting ATC communications from at ~46:00 marker?
I'd forgotten about the REP for Carenado's F33A (first REP I bought). Still works in xplane 12 but I'd not used it there before. Thanks for the REP reminder :)
Wow...this has brought me back in time. The second model you showed is EXACTLY like the real thing. I'd say the stall is almost 100%...I found the wing drops in the c172SP models pretty docile, seemed slightly more agressive than what I remember with regards to the wing drop..but yea Its extremely impressive.
So what was the airport?? There's no info in the " ADDONS & REFERENCED LINKS" section. Regarding the aircrafts themselves, I read that the Airfoillabs one has a lot of bugs, and the dev largely ignores ppl for support. Is that still the case?
As the prior owner of a 1978 Cessna 172N I’d have to agree with you. Only time you’d start the engine without full master is if you’re troubleshooting. Anytime I was battery only I was usually parked in the hangar with charger connected. $600 for Concord battery you ain’t playing around as an owner.
Glad you did this video. I bought the REP a bit ago and now I’m about to buy the airfoillabs didn’t know it was so I depth like the Comanche in Msfs. Love it. Litterally about to get in my car to put money on my PayPal😂 love REP btw, I also heard it works with airfoil labs somehow.
@@Q8PilotYep, agreed. I have a lot of real world experience with the 172 from my PPL days and get frustrated with how wrong the MSFS flight model treats the WBSim 172. Trimming the airplane is an absolute nightmare in MSFS whereas the real plane is more docile. Rudder inputs are also completely overpowered and air/ground transitions feel too "scripted", I suppose is a good way to describe it. All common issues with the flight modeling in MSFS. The system implementations with the WBSim 172 are good and performance numbers are also correct but the feel of the flight model is what ruins it for me. Again, sim limitations are really to blame. I don't intend to sound like a shill for X-Plane but, while not perfect, it certainly feels more like the real thing than MSFS. MSFS has always felt like an arcade, even to this day. It's not surprising given how much they show missions and the more game oriented aspects in all of their 2024 adverts over flight modeling improvements. The "gamer" aspect is where the money is for them.
as much as this plane can be fun in low-flying areas like mountains to get a closer look, I have trouble always landing with this GA plane..maybe my depth perception might be off..hahaha..I normally use slightly bigger GA's..but this is a good presentation..well done sir.
Lower your field of view. For a 16:9 monitor at 1440, I keep my fov below 70 (usually 64 ish, and I adjust my main head position so I can see all of the instruments), this will help your sight picture, you loose a bit of perif, but that's what it takes to get the runway to look correct out the window. Fov is the one setting I ride a lot.
@@RaspySquares yes i think the airspeed is kinda my issue..i do forget that i'm in a small single-engine plane that sits low to the ground, so those low airspeeds tend to make me a little nervous of getting a stall (hahaha)
I appreciate the reviews, especially the detailed ones like these. But man, XPRealistic sounds are at least twice as loud comparing to the aircraft sound, it's really hard to pick up how are the sounds from that particular addon, as XPRealistic out screams everything lol. That is my only caveat with almost all of your streams and videos. P.S. XPRealistic should be used ONLY when the aircraft of choice is lacking sounds in the particular area, for example touchdown, or groundroll sounds. Only add these, and keep that audible just enough to notice them while taxiing, then they will be generally loud on takeoffs. In your case, you kept majority of XPRealistic sounds, pretty loud, while Airfoillabs already have modelled all these sounds properly, and more suitably.
@@Q8Pilot 51:06 for example. Airfoillabs have modelled all the sounds you left enabled in XPRealistic, such as flap rumble, touchdown, groundroll. And I couldn't hear these as XPRealistic sounds are way louded. I mean no biggie, but I'm interested to purchasing the aircraft, and I wondered did they changed the sounds from the XP11 Digital version.
Un-fogging the windscreen is done by selecting the heat and cabin air on, as you did, and opening the vents by sliding one of the pair of levers on the coaming outward for the outside one, or inward for the inside one. They are located just above the artificial horizon on the pilots side and in a similar position on the front passenger side. Nice review, as always.
nahhh the sound naaah I heard 14 years of Cessna 172 from an old model to a less old model well all were from the late 60s to mid 70s however at 1:09 after CTD that Cessna sound is good and I can't beleive CTD from X-Plane s say it isn't soo..... and expansion pack that makes all the difference.
Just a mention regarding the Thranda C172: The airspeed is in miles per hour, which is why it seems like the plane is going faster than expected. :)

The LR 172 + REP package is what I prefer the most, and it seems the most realistic for me although I've only flown C150,2s.

21.58 EPCD Runway 29 & Gdansk Poland EPGD
When starting the Cessna 172 it calls for the Master switch on, that does not mean battery only, both alternator and battery go to the on position.

DGS from Thranda.....quite obsolete and buggy IMHO
I agree!
Works great in their C208 in XP11, maybe it just needs a few tweaks from the developer.
You have to go to failures and repair!
dont like the Thranda products, at least visually and for the systems they dont appear that good
