      Jason & Harrison - Thanks for your work to convey my Dad's passion for aviation & N34TP in the story! I wrote a long comment below, but you did great job showcasing just how much the plane meant to our family.

  • @lxturtle1898
    @lxturtle1898 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +307

    I’m the son of Tom, who owned the plane for 39 years & Jason references in the video.
    First, a genuine thank you to, Jason & Harrison, for an amazing job helping pay homage to and helping my Dad share the story of N34TP. Thank you for honoring him in such an incredible way. As an inventor & engineer, my Dad is the most meticulous & passionate person I’ve ever known.
    I was 3-years old when my dad bought the plane, so nearly every childhood memory I have is intertwined with “Princess.” (My Mom & Dad named each of their planes.)
    As I watched Jason & Harrison tell the story of the plane and so many things came rushing back:
    1. The sound of the master avionics switch brought me to tears. I haven’t heard that fast clicking sound in 20-years. (Timestamp: 49:09)
    2. I can still remember the smell of the fuel, when I stuck the little cup into the test hole during pre-fight checks.
    3. The reason the underside of the plane looks so good is because I was the only kid whose Saturday chore was using foaming “Scrubbing Bubbles” to clean the plane’s undercarriage at 7-years old :)
    One of my favorite stories of flying with my Dad was our trip to Oshkosh in 1989 (or 1990) for the annual airshow. We would camp next to the plane and my dad wanted to get one of the best spots possible. (Those of you who have camped at Oshkosh know just how many rows of planes there are and the long walk each day.) So at 7 or 8 years old, I hopped out of the plane after landing and my dad gave me a handheld walkie-talkie. I was on a mission, I had to find the best spot.
    I went from row to row while my dad was still taxiing and found it…a spot all the way up in Row 8! I was ecstatic and didn’t pay attention to the orange cone in the middle of the spot. I radioed Dad and told him to taxi up to Row 8. A few minutes later he emerged at the end of the row and I started marshaling him in. As he turned into the spot, he gradually had to give it more power…then more power….then more power….eventually getting it in. (Apparently the orange cone was marking a low-lying area in the grass.)
    After Dad shut down the engine and popped the door open, a friendly guy emerged from behind the plane and walked up to my dad. He greeted my dad with a friendly “Welcome to Oshkosh! That’s an incredible plane!” My dad, knowing the brotherhood amongst the aviation community replied, “Well thank you! She’s a Bonanza B36TC!” The guy responded back - “Great…now can you come help me put my tent back up?” (Apparently those turbochargers work pretty well!)
    I’ll find time to add more memories here, but I’m so grateful another pilot will get the opportunity to enjoy what was a major part of my childhood.
    (Reposted comment at request of Jason)

    As I watched you go through this plane and everything about it seemed nearly perfect, I remember starting to look for one like it just before COVID-19 came to America and had sold my house to relocate to Grand Junction, Colorado and rent a place to stay while I looked for a home to buy and a plane. My plan came to a halt when the pandemic shut Colorado down for months and I ended up spending my money for a plane on rent and food and necessities and my way out of Colorado and back to New Hampshire. I'm now in Holiday, Florida and work in Homosassa Springs as a master barber getting back on my feet still with the dream of owning my own plane. I watched with tears in my eyes thinking theres probably at least one more out there in very good condition for me.

    Nice Bo! But that elevator looks like it’s loaded with filiform corrosion. (Pin worm pattern). That spinners not legal. (Can’t have a chrome plated spinner). When you do the gear, drop the struts off completely and do the middle seal. If that seal fails the gear possibly partially collapse and take out the wing skin when the gear retracts. It’s smoking because you have the boost pump on. Turn the boost pump off before you start. Youre flooding the engine and that’s why it wouldn’t shut down when you pulled the mixture.

    I was a 17 year old high school student living in Walla Walla, WA when I got to ride in a Bonanza. I worked for Red Flying Carpet Service installing radio systems in general aviation aircraft. I was able to ride, second set of seats, on a training session for a customer. I remember holding my breath when they swung the yoke from the student to the instructor to shoot an instrument approach. Great times!!!

    The days of old steam gauge aviation still need to be appreciated especially in high performance aircraft in my opinion! While everything is prone to failure at a moments notice I’d trust an ole steam gauge way before any electronic device. I believe electronics have their advantages but there’s always an iPad for those tasks. Like was said earlier!, definitely keep the panel. The aviate and navigate part is slowly being turned over to electronics slowly but surely and the two are becoming a lost art with everything the electronics do.
