I had earwig trouble last year. They are in my garden for the first time. Wish I knew exactly what brought them........dahalias I guess!

Earwigs love dahlias. It's my only complaint about the flower. >_

I tried marigolds this year and they did great with long vase life. Best of all, I happened to plant them between rose bushes and my rose bushes have never looked this good! They're usually stripped of their leaves by pests.

I was listening to a podcast that said the Latino community LOVES marigolds because it is kind of like...how..a poinsettia is to our Christmas, marigolds are for their Day of the Dead festivities and another flower farm makes tons of money from their marigolds around that holiday and I think a lot of people feel the way that you do..They're kinda boring ad stinky..therefore many people don't focus on growing them and the latino community gets a little disappointed at how difficult it can be to find them. So keep growing them!

The reason we grew so many marigolds this year is because my employee last summer is part Latina and she absolutely LOVES marigolds. She was supposed to be back this summer but was in an accident and couldn't do manual labour (which is fine! she's doing much better now!). I've never liked the smell of marigolds, but the big varieties are great for our farm stand bouquets.
We also have a local artisan bread bakery who purchases marigold blooms for decor because they are edible. She also buys pansies, nasturtium, calendula, and chamomile blooms. :)

I started some Dahlias from seed, growing well, I expect frost NOVEMBER sometimes December! Started them late June, hoping to get to see blooming but never know!

      They should bloom!
Our growing season is mid-May to mid-October so you have at least a full month on us! ☺️

I lost about 50% of my dahlias due to rot because of all the rain!

I'm so sorry to hear about your dahlias! We're very lucky because our dahlia field is on a slope, so we haven't had any issues with flooding. I did, however, lose my eucalyptus seedlings and that was a tough and frustrating hit.

@@greenbeefloralco Luckily, a lot of them were grown from seed so it wasn't a huge investment of f, but still a huge time investment!
