    Not to mention the fact that the man who suffered losses, worked hard to create a better life for other people, and is generous enough to freely offer the fruits of his labor to everyone while having the prudence to decide which people should receive that gift, is perceived by the narrative as evil whilst the child who goes through absolutely no character arc and just wants to give everyone what they want without considering the consequences is treated as the hero. Yikes. That’s an extremely toxic message to be showing to children.

    Asha’s quirkiness doesn’t fit her either does it? Design wise, the neatly braided hair, the plain liliac tunic with no accessories, the expression in her eyes. If you never heard her talk or move, you’d say she’s a calm, soft-spoken, grounded, even knowledgeable, and serious person. The way she looks doesn’t match the way she acts and carries herself very well, she’s modeled to look like a ‘Disney mom’. Plus she’s 17 and not 15 like Mirabel, a character whose’s querkiness you can see a mile away by the way she decorated her normal dress, her attitude is a form of over-compensation for her lack of magical abilities, she developed this sassy personality to stand out, Hanna’s quirkiness stems from excitement and social ineptitude because she wasn’t socialized, so she’s a bit ‘weird’ for a princess. I was so confused when Asha sang "so I make this wish, to give us something more than this.." Because, uh... "this" would be a beautiful, prosperous, peaceful kingdom where everyone lives a great life except they forget they wanted to literally fly like a bird or learn to play the ukulele. What exactly is going on here that deprives the people so much that the only option is to break in and take the wishes back? It seems like looking for a reason to feel oppressed.
    Also, uh... the friend group literally looked at their "sleepy" friend and called him boring since he lost his wish. Not nice in the first place but maybe he's boring because he's SLEEPING all the time? But NO ONE ELSE appeared to have no energy even after giving up their wish, so wasn't he just a sleepy character because they're all based off the seven dwarves? Everyone in that city looked pretty happy with their lives. So why am I supposed to feel so bad for them?
    Why did that deer have a "dumb surfer dude" voice? Just because it's funny and makes kids laugh to hear him say "you're a star" like a dope?
    So much of this movie just felt brainless that I can't enjoy it.

    Some folks who defend this movie claim that Magnifico is the return to the classic Disney villain; and I'm just trying to figure out how/where they're getting that impression - as Magnifico starts off as arrogant, but inherently benevolent, but becomes evil after being corrupted by the evil spellbook (which only happened after Asha made her wish/Star arrived on the island).

      Instead, she stayed quiet, sided with the people and was more than happy to have him hung in the dungeons (while he was trapped in his staff's mirror), feeling he deserved his fate after what he had done, making her the sole ruler of Rosas as a result.
      That's some diabolical BS right there - but no one in that kingdom questioned why she so easily turned against the man she loved/was dedicated to for decades or even suspected she might have known how evil he supposedly was - and did nothing to stop him (making her his partner in crime). "Wish" is supposed to be Disney's magnum opus that celebrates Disney's 100 years of animation. Instead, it was a major letdown thanks to its reliance on nostalgia, comparisons to other animated Disney films, a poorly written story, bland animation, generic characters, and forgettable songs.
    So, I ask myself, "What if 'Wish' had a different version than the final result that we got? What if the story and characters were developed better? What if the film was a fully hand-drawn animated film with some CGI animated elements instead of a fully CGI animated film with a 2D watercolor style filter like the final version?"
    I asked ChatGPT to generate that alternate version of the film, and here's what it had to say:
    In the alternate version of "Wish", the story takes place in the enchanting kingdom of Rosas, where Asha is not just a young girl but the 18-year-old Princess of Rosas. As the daughter of King Magnifico and Queen Amaya and the younger sister of Prince Andrew, Asha carries the weight of royal responsibilities on her shoulders.
    The kingdom is known for its magical history, where the reigning monarch possesses the ability to grant the greatest wishes of their subjects. However, this power has its consequences, as the wishes are sealed away, creating a sense of longing and mystery among the citizens. Asha, being a compassionate and curious princess, becomes increasingly aware of the unfulfilled desires within the kingdom and yearns to uncover the truth behind her family's magic.
    Sabino, Asha's 100-year-old grandfather, is not only a wise figure in the kingdom but also the father of King Magnifico. Sakina, Asha's 86-year-old grandmother, provides a different perspective as Magnifico's mother, offering a familial dynamic that adds depth to the royal family's history.
    The film's visual style is a unique blend of traditional hand-drawn animation and CGI animation. Approximately 80% of the film, including the characters like Asha and her family and most of the scenery and objects, are meticulously hand-drawn, giving the movie a classic, timeless aesthetic. The remaining 20% of the film's environment is brought to life through CGI animation, seamlessly integrated to enhance certain magical elements and create a visually stunning and dynamic world.
    As Asha embarks on her journey to unravel the secrets of Rosas, her relationships with her family, friends, and the anthropomorphic wishing star named Star take center stage. The blend of animation styles accentuates the magic and wonder of the kingdom, showcasing the coexistence of tradition and modernity in this enchanting tale.
    The narrative still revolves around Asha's quest to understand the true nature of wishes, but now, her royal lineage adds an additional layer of complexity to the story. The dynamics within the royal family, their connection to the magic of wishes, and Asha's role as both a princess and a compassionate individual contribute to a rich and multifaceted narrative.
    Also in this alternate version, the character of Star undergoes a fascinating transformation. Instead of being a simple wishing star, Star is a magical human boy with the extraordinary ability to shapeshift into anything he desires. This includes not only inanimate objects but also various forms, creatures, and beings. His character is a blend of the mischievous and carefree spirit of Peter Pan from the eponymous story and the playful and whimsical nature of the Genie from "Aladdin".
    As Asha's love interest, Star brings a dynamic and enchanting element to the narrative. Their interactions are filled with playful banter, magical escapades, and a shared sense of wonder. Star's shapeshifting ability adds an extra layer of fun and unpredictability to their adventures, as he can effortlessly transform into different forms to aid Asha in her quest.
    Star's fusion of Peter Pan and the Genie's personalities means he possesses a timeless and adventurous spirit, coupled with a flair for theatrics and comedic charm. His boundless energy and ability to find joy in the simplest of moments resonate with Asha, creating a deep and magical connection between them.
    Throughout the story, Star not only assists Asha in her quest to uncover the mysteries of Rosas but also serves as a source of comfort, inspiration, and, ultimately, a driving force behind the film's exploration of wishes and the power of dreams.
    The romantic subplot between Asha and Star adds an emotional layer to the narrative, highlighting themes of friendship, love, and the transformative nature of wishes. The blend of their unique personalities and magical abilities contributes to the overall charm and enchantment of this reimagined "Wish".
    Also, I made a page for that alternate version of the movie. Here's the link:

    Based on what I overheard during the strikes, it sounds like throwing inexperienced people into huge, multi-million dollar projects has become a constant in the film industry in the past few years, because no film studio wants to make mid-budget films anymore. They all want to chase the big money of the super-blockbuster.
    But a side-effect of that is that inexperienced people don't have lower budget projects to cut their teeth on while they figure out how to do stuff.

    I been talking A LOT of trash of this movie since I've seen it because of all of it's flaws, but the thing that angers me the most, is the movie calling Magnifico a villain when in reality he is just an antagonist. Dude is just an overprotective parent with anger issues that was pushed past his limit and then became evil because of magic book. He should have been a twist hero instead: Asha should have been able to grant every wish with luma... *I MEAN,* Star and, in doing so, released chaos in the Kingdom of Rosas. Then, Magnifico would propose to work together with Asha and Star to bring back order to the Kingdom. Asha would recognize that granting every wish is not a good idea and Magnifico could learn to open himself about the trauma he endured and trust more in the people.

    Honestly, I get they were trying to go with the whole non authoritarian mesage and that would be cool if done correctly. Maguinifico is not a bad guy, or at least is not portrayed as such in the movie, instead he is very caring and only has some problems that he has to work on, like paranoia, narcisism, and so on, which if written correctly could both make him the heroand villain of the movie depending on what the writers wanted to portray. Like Puss of Puss in Boots had these same characteristics of paranoia, being a serial dater,being a narcisist, not caring enough about his own life, being egotistical and so on, and he was STILL the hero of the movie, and at times was an antagonist to other characters too. Disney could do a character like that, a villain that later turns out to be the hero, or vice versa, like they could've done something amazing with this movie... Characters like Kovu and Flynn and Megara are good examples of that, tridimensional characters that were redeemed and had so much more to them than a pretry face or an evil motive. Either that or just make him pure evil, and made Asha go through some kind, any kind of development but the movie was so half baked, it just hurts really. Like danm dude...

    if disney was banking on magnifico being the "classic" villain, they should've had a king magnifico flashback in the beginning of someone's wish gone wrong, and then go to the book opening- not only does this subvert the expectation of the traditional disney book opening bc we already know that the king is corrupt (but the kingdom doesn't), it also makes his paranoia abt wishes a part of his personality... why else would he have some "just in case" evil book other than the plot needed him to be super corrupt by the end???

    If I remember correctly, when they start rebelling, one of the townspeople asks Magnifico if they could change their wishes because they were 18 when they made it, meaning the kingdom is capable of making MORE wishes, I can´t even remember what I wished for when I was 18 and there was no sorcerer king involved in my forgetfulness, and the movie tries to tell me that Asha's 100yo grandpa hasn't had another wish since he gave the king his wish???

Then to switching on him real quick! All of the citizens- lame and ungrateful!!! This movie sucks and the Asha is just a freakin’ brat and entitled like everyone. (Spoilers)
    Should have had it look like the king was taking wishes from the room full of the collection only for it to be revealed that the queen was the real villain the whole time trying to get a specific wish. Think Santa Clause 3 with the snow globes. And Asha was actually hired and mentored by the queen up to that point. I know you’re all upset that Wish didn’t live up to our expectations as it was supposed to be dedicated to the studio’s 100th anniversary, but you gotta remember, this is not the first time the studio has made a terrible movie. When Walt died, the films weren’t that great without him. But in the late 1980s and in the 1990s, the studio made popular movies again. So, it goes like a roller coaster ride. Please don’t lose faith in them. It’ll get better and will make great movies again. You just have to keep believing in them.

    The animation IMO looks like a cheaply made animated TV series spin off, à la Dragons: Race to the Edge, or Spirit’s spin-off series. Not necessarily bashing them, some of them are entertaining but the animation is not great due to not taking as much time on a series as a full film. Surely fans deserve better than that for a full-length film that’s supposed to be a celebration of Disney.

    I'm embarrassed to admit that I didn't even know that Wish was an anniversary movie, I hadn't been keeping up to date with the info surrounding it and I just assumed it was another simple Disney movie. I watched it and the whole time I wasn't really feeling much of anything. It just looked like stock generic Disney and nothing really special. It's sad because from an artistic perspective, this movie would've looked great in the 2D animation style and I'm sad that they didn't just go that route instead of this pseudo watercolor 3D style. I agree with your analysis on the characters especially, they were ALL with the mild exception of Magnifeco and his wife, bland and stock, I can't even remember their names. I would've forgave them not doing the 2D animation if the characters were good but they weren't. Magnifeco again was the only mildly interesting thing about it and it's because at least to me personally, he kinda felt like a traditional Disney villain from the golden renaissance era.
    It's sad for an anniversary movie, this is what we got. I watched Encanto earlier than this year and I enjoyed that a lot more than this, it was a genuinely decent Disney film imo and I went into that with low expectations lol.
    Let's hope that someday we will see that Disney magic again, it's still there somewhere deep down (and it can start with please giving us another 2D animated movie! haha).

    They could've went several other ways with this:
    1. Make it a parody, similar to "Enchanted."
    2. Take more fairy tale inspirations. This feels too modern and not very magical; even the storybook aspect felt more like a formality than a beloved aspect.
    3. Combine the humor of "The Emperor's New Groove" with the epic story of a film like "Beauty and the Beast." I know reaching a tonal balance would be hard, but if done right, it'd be a great payoff.

    Most people love asha’s design, but I think it’s the laziest Disney has ever made. Even Merida’s simple dress from brave stood out, plus she was a princess! Even if she’s an “honorable princess” her design is similar to Isabella’s from Encanto- there’s nothing about her that’s interesting. Here is how I would rewrite Wish:
    1. Fix the animation. It's atrocious
    2. Have Asha become Magnifico's apprentice than upon being accepted she slowly finds out what he's been doing instead of him revealing his true colors right away
    3. Instead of making Magnifico evil, make him neutral where he doesn't grant every wish out of fear for the kingdom and everyone's safety or he could already be turned evil by the book and be set free from its control at the climax.
    4. Dwindle down Asha's friend group to 3 or less so it's not overwhelming and they all get screentime.
    5. As for the Queen Amaya, probably make her Asha's mom so she will technically be a princess or make her evil and brainwash Magnifico (she was planned to be evil originally).
    6. Maybe have Asha be a shy girl who is scared to speak or maybe a girl who acts wise, but can be rather clueless at times or even make her a courageous daredevil.
    7. Never let the goat speak
    8. Star...well I guess make him a love interest like in the original version.
    And that's all I got.

    You pointed out the villain still having this tragic backstory which others still have but what do you think of this idea: what if it is revealed he wasn’t being fully honest about it? The one I was trying to think of doesn’t mesh well with his thieves burning the home story. Frankly, I think a HORRIBLE place to start for doing a film, unless it is a meta nostalgic callback is to insist that a major anniversary demands a movie be made in the tradition of the past to honor it.
    What Wish looks like is the first cut of a new Bioshock game turned movie about the horror state of utopias where people give up personal aspirations to live in a Brave New World. The wish star could be in a lighthouse.
    The potential appears to be far more interesting then how it carried out.

    I've been hearing everything from the movie is O.K. to the movie is bad, and not the enjoyable bad where it's so bad it's almost good. So far, I'm not convinced at all to go see this thing, so I won't. Seems they could have fixed their issue by just making the villain an actual villain. On another video, I recommended that he be sacrificing lives to be able to give wishes, knows he needs to but wants to put a good front on for the people so he has a small assassin team get the people and do the deed for him, and make it basically a murder mystery type of thing. He would have had good intent, but murder dissolves any past one had into nothing, so it wouldn't matter what kind of history he had. This way too, it wouldn't have been so odd for the wife to stay on the side of good either. Many people have been married to serial killers and not even known. And none of the sacrifices would have to happen on screen either. Just like with the devastation in Dinosaur, whatever happened with the kids after they were turned into asses in Pinocchio, what happens with the hyenas after The Lion King, it could be left open and nobody would think much of it. They got sacrificed, doesn't matter how. Just matters that it happened. But at least something would have happened.

    • @Swiftstart
      @Swiftstart  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The moment I saw the concept art of human star I was pissed.
      I am 99% certain it’s bc they opted for a non human animal companion star bc “Asha can’t have a boyfriend and be a strong girl” bs
      Even though they could just be platonic friends and that would be groundbreaking in a Disney movie in of itself
      But noooooo
      Its just sad

    Would you say the animation is as lazy as or even lazier than Robin Hood which this film happened to be released on the 50th anniversary of the same month?

    • @Oscar95451
      @Oscar95451 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I like Robin Hood, tbh

    • @Swiftstart
      @Swiftstart  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      honestly its apples to oranges; Robin Hood was made when Disney was doing financially very poorly and so the cut corners in the animation make sense and are more understandable. they didn't have the aid of computers to help speed up anything because they didn't exist yet and so everything was done by hand.
      wish however is made when disney is in theory more financially more powerful than it ever has been. with theoretically the best technology for making animated movies at their fingertips.

    Bro how dare you do the art of Hollow Knight like that? That game has full 2d artstyle and is absolutely gorgeous. This movie however is really unappealing to look at, when the characters are still it's not so bad but whenever they move you can tell it's really just 3d BADLY masquerading as 2d, there's none of the quality of Klaus or Spiderverse here.

    • @Swiftstart
      @Swiftstart  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oh dear!
      Hollowknight is actually one of Fox and mines favorite games! We picked it because it had artsy pretty cutscenes and worked as a great visual. We meant no offense to the game.
      And honestly it sort of pretty wonderfully emphasizes how bad wish is; and how good Hollowknight is.
      Hollowknight had a creative team you could count on one hand, Wish, not so much.
      That Hollowknight looks better than Wish does it a service and Wish a disservice. Because that just shouldn't happen.
      Sorry for causing panic in the tiny bug warrior community!

    Disney worst? have you seen home on the range, chicken little and the black Cauldron?? youll regret saying that after you watch those.
    But I wont deny the writing was poor, Asha shouldve had a more mature personality and Magnifico couldve been a fantastic villain but got waisted cuz of how poorly he was written.

  • @Muna-Jlore0997
    @Muna-Jlore0997 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The movie WISH is lazy. Even the title itself sounds lazy. At least like tangled, there two variations in the title. However, the writing in the movie was written by an A.I. and the characters are forgettable like Asha’s friends. The only friends I could recall is dahlia and Simon. Everyone else, blanks. Magnifico is such a generic villain that has no backstory. I guess in the beginning when he lists his family in a tragic end but still doesn’t includes why he’s a villain. The villain song is not good. It’s too upbeat. Personally, I think shiny is better. If you compared it with hellfire, there is symbolism to it, unlike “this what I get” seems childish. Also, the main protagonist is too quirky and almost like self insert. Asha doesn’t have any flaws other than her being cutesy. In princess and the frog, Tiana does have friends , however, she sacrificed her fun and worked three jobs to earn enough money to get her restaurant. Asha doesn’t do any of that. She doesn’t study to be the king’s apprentice (not sure why though) hell, she practiced magic. Only Magnifico can. So what was the whole point of the story.

    I haven't watched this move, and I could care less to actually do it, but even from just short clips while watching multiple of recensions, I can 100% tell, this goat is a menace. It's 1% cute, and 99% infuriating, not even annoying, because you know it's going to keep your blood boiling throughout the whole damn movie, since it'll be everywhere the camera goes. I'm certain this wouldn't be enjoyable for me to watch at all, if that doberman from "Up" with this squeaky, "quirky", voice modulator was already frustrating enough. This move looks like a torture to sit through and watch.

      Not gonna lie the frist thing that came to mind is the Craig Ferguson Doctor Who song with it's key line 'intellect and romance triumph over brute force and cynicism!'
