They deserved way better than this and at least they did gave a great 👍🏻 performance with the material that they are given. As much I loved and respect Rachel Zegler, she deserves a much better movie than this. Say on what about her line on her opinion on Snow White, she doesn't deserved that hate and backlash. Attacking on her won't make things better. I have a message to all those attackers and haters - You should ashamed of yourselves. You leave Rachel Zegler alone. If you think Rachel is a problem, you are the problem. You really should rethink of your behavior and really grow up and mature like a real adult. You seriously need some help!

Animat didn't slap the Seal of Garbage on this despite giving it a 4.5/10 He should've played his 8/10 7/10 music when he was giving his score in his Leo review since he gave it a 6.5/10
To tell the honest truth, I will stick with Wish, sure it’s not perfect but at least it’ll give me some enjoyment compared to Spellbound which had potential but unfortunately, John’s involvement gave me some hesitation.
I'm thinking of an animated movie based on Capri Sun's Disrespectoids from their late 2000's-early 2010's Respect the Pouch campaign era with it's plot being like this. Taking place in 2009, a young adult College graduate woman named Leena moves with her father to Niceville (the entire movie is set in Florida) for a new job she got accepted into, however, she ends up moving in next door to a large household which is revealed to be a boarding house for fifteen mutant kids called the Disrespectoids who all of which ended up looking like what they are now due to how they disrespected Capri Sun pouches from last year in 2008, now Leena has to be the new caretaker of the Disrespectoids alongside their elder caretaker and founder of the boarding house, Mr. Erickson and his two young adult aged sons, Tristan and Rowan where she must have to watch over the Disrespectoids and do stuff with them whenever she returns or has a day off from work, meanwhile an evil salesman with three Thieve Bandits plan to capture the Disrespectoids so that they could use them to make money. Also, the Disrespectoids movie would be a musical and would be the pilot film to a full Disrespectoids show that takes place after the events of the movie called Disrespectoids: Respect the Pouch, and the show is also a musical series like the movie. If this becomes an actual animated film, how would any of you think AniMat would review and rate the Disrespectoids movie based on what I said about it?
@@toyland_f Well, it's not the number itself that is surprising to me, but it's the fact that it wasn't an AniMat Seal of Garbage number. His 6.5 number was his meh number, according to his review of Leo.
I am beginning to feel like Skydance Animation would be going the way of Amblimation, Steven Spielberg's own Animation Studio of the 90's that feel like it's trying to mimic Don Bluth. Remember that?
Wow, half a point away from the Animat Seal of Garbage. I'll confess to liking WondLa, having binged it on the ride to Grandma's for Thanksgiving, but this is proof that if both Skydance and Paramount keep John Lasseter around for the foreseeable future, the impending fate of the soon-to-be combined animation studio will be a combination of those of The Weinstein Company and Warner Bros's FIRST attempt at an in-house feature animation studio. In other words, things didn't end too well for either party.
Considering how AniMat gave Wish an 8/10, it's pretty easy for a movie to be worse than Wish in his opinion (especially if it isn't made by Disney, Pixar, or DreamWorks).
I have seen Spirited Away on Netflix when I was in Year 8 or 9 (I believe) and I found it very good, better than Spellbound. I can agree with you! :D (Also Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year)
To be honest, if I wanna watch a better movie that takes inspiration from spirited away, I would watch Coco because that movie knew it was doing actually and and I know that Coco does take inspiration from spirited away, not just spirited away, but also howl’s moving castle as well and that movie worked out beautifully because it knew what it was doing and you do actually care for the protagonist Miguel throughout the movie, but I think he is one of the best Pixar protagonists ever and he is such a relatable character honestly I think it’s honestly a much better movie that takes inspiration from spirited away
Are we sure this guy isn’t letting his personal views on Lassie’s STILL unproven allegations that got him fired from Disney? Would he even be this harsh if he didn’t direct it? It’s seems that a lot of reviewers of an intersectionality nature tend to judge a movie by the creator and whether or not their worldview or politics align with theirs.
It's perfectly valid to not want to support support someone who has allegations, even if unproven I can see why someone wouldn't want to support someone who could potentially be a r*pist especially because it's so difficult for victims to come forward about these kinds of things and especially because it's difficult to get people to believe them because society loves to protect these abusers
to paraphrase a scene from the forgotten DreamWorks Pictures movie Distant: Wish and Moana 2: Yes! Yes! That's what I'm talking about! [show middle fingers to Spellbound and shouts] That's how we hate an animated movie from Skydance Animation! Let's Go! [shouts] Gladiator II and Wicked: Are you finished? Wish and Moana 2: Yeah.
Katrina(that's how i refer to the "darkness") is not only hard to take it seriously, but it also is a lame antagonistic force since who thinks that a freaking tornado of "dArKnEsS" that turns random people with negative feelings into monsters is interesting? I don't! Way before i watched this movie i thought that this movie would have a villain and this was my only high expectaition from this movie, but nope! A random dark tornado that turns random people with "dArK fEeLiNgS" into monsters, that's it. Imagine how much more interesting it would be if there was a villain who is the one who turned Elian's parents into monsters, and what if the said villain was an embodiment of both toxic negativity and toxic positivity? Or just toxicity in general!? Imagine how cool and interesting it would be. And yes i also have a problem with Elian's parent being monsters from the fvck1ng BEGINING OF THE MOVIE! Like why can't we be introduced to her parents BEFORE they get turned into monsters? We could've had a moment to know their personality before this event instead of them already being monsters. Sorry for the rant
20:49 fun fact: Wicked and Spellbound got released on the same day. And yes, they do both have a familiar Disney song writer. Alan Menken for Spellbound and Stephen Schwartz for Wicked
They did it; Skydance Animation finally made a terrible and more frustrating movie than Saving Bikini Bottom. Spellbound should probably get more hate and backlash than the Sandy movie because it gave me nothing in return. The writing is a mess, the story is cliché, the characters are such assholes, and the tone talks down to little kids. Even the animation and music can't save the feature because it wants to be a Pixar knockoff. Honestly, bad executive meddling is to blame, as Ellison and especially Lasseter need to be blacklisted sooner. If this still counts as part of Netflix animation, then this is hands down their worst movie ever distributed!!! 😡😡😡👎
@@atasker7432 I do think that the Sandy Leeks movie and this movie can not be any worse than what I think is the worst movie of the year so far being MegaCringe vs the Trash Syndicate

Even through the review and the clips that I see, I already know for a fact that Spellbound is a desperate, dull and pitiful film and to those people that say that Wish is the worst, I think Spellbound deserves that title than Wish. Now, a couple of months back, I was watching an episode from The South Bank Show, I highly reccommend it, and one of them focuses on Pixar and a bit of Disney. Of course, John Lasseter was there and I was watching it until Lasseter said and I quote 'The thing that we worry at Pixar the most is to become complacent. To think that we know what we were doing. We always wanted to be growing, changing and becoming better. In the world of business and in the world of Hollywood, everybody wants to play it safe. Everybody wants the sure thing and most people think that the sure thing is what was really popular last year because people love that, they love this. Let's do the same thing. We always believe, "No. Do something fresh and new that no one has ever seen before."' I do not know if he actually means it or it might be a completely different Lasseter all together but something about it is rather both foretelling and even ironic, at least that is what I think.
22:36 I don’t think I’ve ever seen Mat rate ANYTHING a 1 out of 10. But then again, I haven’t seen every single review he’s ever made, so don’t take my word for it
Huh, if I had a nickel for every time Jane Fonda has been in a CGI animated movie that failed badly, I'd have two nickels. That's not a lot but it's weird that it's happened twice, right? The other movie she starred in was Ruby Gillman.
I would much rather watch Shark Tale than this. (Insert Flynn Rider surrounded by swords meme here) Also, ignore any comments regarding the rating and your Seal of Garbage. Your review, your decision.
I hope that movie get the seal of garbage... because that movie was TERRIBLE. Looks like his parents never going to let go of Ryan at this point, I fell bad for that kid.
If I had a nickel for every time John lasseter made a movie that tried to be like Disney at skydance animation I’d have two nickels which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that happened twice right?
Okay, I will say at first, I did kind of agree with the complaint about the parents already being monsters, but as the film went along, I kinda liked that they kept it all a mystery and saved the explanation for nearing the end. It leaves the viewer wondering what happened that led up to that situation. If anything, the one part of this plot that made no sense to me was them not telling the captain of the guard in case she spotted them. She even asks why they wouldn't tell her, and we never get an answer. That bothered me a lot more.
This may sound like a big or maybe a harsh statement but I think it’s safe to say that Skydance Animation is what the haters of 2020s Disney and Pixar animated films say about 2020s Disney/Pixar films. 😑 Also, the writing in Luck and Spellbound are so bad that it’ll make you feel like Mirabel from Encanto saying “Skydance your scripts are the WOOORRRSSSTT!!!” 😠😡 This is why they need to kick out John in order to help the studio be better and not be a Disney wannabe. The workers deserved better too
Hot 🔥 take - I enjoyed 😉 Wish more than Chicken Run Dawn of Diaster and Trolls Band Together. Those two animated films were a disgrace to animation. People complained Wish was the worse nope that ties between Trolls Band Together and Chicken Run 2 Dawn of Disaster.
Honestly, while there are far better musicals released right now, like wicked or even Moana 2, I felt this was ok at best. It’s slightly better than Luck but it’s probably something i won’t remember for so long.
This gives me down hopes for lassater, probably with Butch Hartman he’ll just probably get some respect back or just move on with the new fairly odd parents series
Say what you will about Moana 2’s okay at best reception from critics but no amount of complaints and a discourse based on its origins and the creative risk with the musical numbers are going to stop it from performing well. I mean, no joke it’s actually doing well at the box office alongside Wicked and Gladiator 2 is on track for a great opening weekend. Yes reactions are all over the place but aren’t the wide variety of reactions also the reason why Despicable Me 4, Kung Fu Panda 4, and even The Garfield Movie did well? But if you want a more direct question, that’s also why Frozen 2 did well right? Also, it got a better RT score then Spellbound. Speaking of the discourse, it’s one thing to have an online discourse about Tiana’s Bayou Adventure being a retheme of Splash Mountain which is based on a problematic film (Song of the South) but that online discourse about Moana 2’s history and having the Bridgerton girls instead of Lin Manuel is going way too far as well. Also the film could’ve been much worse too so it’s better then nothing and it got something better then Megamind vs the Doomed Syndicate
For Animat’s reviews, we sure got a new rating record since Leo and Miraculous Ladybug last year. Here’s what we got: Leo: 6.5/10 Miraculous Ladybug and Cat Noir the Movie: 5.5/10 Spellbound: 4.5/10 Honorable mention: The Little Mermaid (2023): 6.5/10
15:09-15:15 Something to save for your reviews of "Rover Dangerfield," "The Trumpet of the Swan," "Igor," "Ribbit," "Ozzy: The Great Fur-scape", "Henchmen," "Extinct," and "Rally Road Racers." That's their comic relief in a nutshell.
Soundtrack was nice, the creature designs and background designs were nice also and reminded me of Spyro, but the king and queen trying to have a divorce was not cool. But I’d rather something worse than Wish, rather than the other way round.
I bet you guys feel bad for bashing on Disney's wish now huh? well, spellbound really is one of those movie that try way too hard to be like disney and it dosen't even hide it.
Idk, Wish made me more annoyed than this. I feel like the ad campaign was at least honest for this movie & the general idea, outside of its execution was still unique & important. Not saying I don’t agree w/ everything you’re saying w/ this review, you are 💯 right on everything. But Wish was a bigger letdown personally.
Honestly, I don't mind more movies to teach kids about divorce and others surrounding it. Yet the pacing was just TERRIBLE, last I'd seen this this past Sunday. But yeah, I loved most of the songs that kept reminding me how good of a singer Rahel Zeigler is and you do have a good point that most of the animation is good. Except for that tornado, though. That looked so bad, it's just too silly to laugh at.
Catalina la catrina could had been a series and movie but since Catalina la catrina only had 1 movie/special she was mess up by bad people and hackers also Granujo the imp could had his own movie and series even if Alan ituriel was still busy with villainos and other stuff, Granujo the imp is still the best character.
I'm going to watch the film at some point, but having read the plot and seen reactions, I can see why its not a winner. It's a pity really when you consider the man running the studio is the man who saved Disney in the 2010s.
It’s good timing that you uploaded this on Black Friday because it’s a really bad movie. How did it escape getting the seal of garbage Scott free is a mystery.
A 4.5 out of 10, don't think I ever saw that before. I saw this on the day it came out and while I don't dislike it, I think I'll take Wish over this any day. I will admit that the message of dysfunctional families and parents is interesting on paper, but I think it would've worked better if it showed more of the parents arguing before they turned into monsters and Ellian realizing that her time with her parents wasn't as happy and peaceful as she thought. Hopefully, Skydance Animation can get a better leader than Lasseter soon so they can really show people what they're capable of.

Thankfully, Moana 2 and Wicked are both doing well at the box office right now. Moana 2’s lucky enough to get a better RT score then Spellbound too. Yeah sure, the reviews are just decent at best but hey, at least it did something competently
Obviously I hate John Lasseter as much as the next guy and do think any and all future projects of his should be blacklisted but let's not forget that Disney is also currently funding a genocide, as of right now supporting either one of them would be considered equally bad
AniMat is gonna give Moana 2 a positive review, I'm calling it!
@@frozenwishstudios that’ll be up him to on what he thinks and says but it could be possible. He found Despicable Me 4 and Wish better then he thought so we’ll wait and see if this is the same case or not
John Lassiter should have incorporated Pixar's 22 Rules of Storytelling when producing these movies 🤦♂️
I feel sorry for the actors like Rachel Zegler, Nicole Kidman, Javier Bardem, Nathan Lane, John Lithgow and Jenifer Lewis.
Thank you!

My god those ratings make my eyes bulge out like dinner plates, how can a film with a 1/10 in Story avoid the Seal Of Garbage, I’ll never know
Yeah he shouldn't use the decimal system
And I don't get how Trolls has a higher score than Free birds even though trolls has 2 3/10's for story and characters While free birds has a 4/10 story and 6/10 characters
I do think free birds should of gotten a 5/10
While trolls 4/10
You gotta remember, Animat also looks at animation, characters, and, at times, the songs. Walking with Dinasours got a 1/10 for story but got 10/10 for the animation.
@@jacindaellison3363 alright but doesn't excuse the messy rating system
@@Allhn-m9x Exactly, if anything he should give extra points to writing and characters, but give less points to the animation
People are treating Wish way too harshly, say what you will about the film, at the very least it has a lot of work and effort put into making it. Spellbound however, it feels artificial and boring. Sorry Lasseter, you’re running out of “Luck” at this point.
Good one
But not enough for a disney 100th year anniversary.

🎉🍰 🍽🍴🦃 Happy Thanksgiving Day, everyone! Enjoyed your dinner and spend time with your families. 🦃🍴🍽 🍰🎉
To tell the honest truth, I will stick with Wish, sure it’s not perfect but at least it’ll give me some enjoyment compared to Spellbound which had potential but unfortunately, John’s involvement gave me some hesitation.
Damn... talk about BARELY dodging the Seal of Garbage there.
The fact that this film gets a 4.5, yet not the AniMat Seal of Garbage is cray cray
Not really, when you understand how to round to the nearest whole number.
I was actually going to say that.
@@josephmonasky9495 Yes I remember.
@alexismartinez8343 good. Even Amblimation's output had better quality animation than this.
At least Amblimation put in some creative effort, even if it wasn’t comparable to the works of Don Bluth.
(SPOILER ALERT)
that score and somehow it didn't get the animat seal of garbage?
Considering how AniMat gave Wish an 8/10, it's pretty easy for a movie to be worse than Wish in his opinion (especially if it isn't made by Disney, Pixar, or DreamWorks).
*I still don't know why they still have something of job for John Lasseter😤*
Wish was a lot better than this
Ladies and gentlemen, John Lassiter's redemption ark is non existed.
It never existed to begin with.
That creep is better off locked away
Love that wicked recommendation at the end
@ So “innocent until proven guilty”
Isn’t a thing in your world. I hope you don’t establish a nation.
Been boycotting SkyDance Animation purely because of Lasseter
to paraphrase a scene from the forgotten DreamWorks Pictures movie Distant:
Wish and Moana 2: Yes! Yes! That's what I'm talking about!
[show middle fingers to Spellbound and shouts]
That's how we hate an animated movie from Skydance Animation! Let's Go!
[shouts]
Gladiator II and Wicked: Are you finished?
I still don't think Saving Bikini Bottom is THAT bad, but at least that film had SOME effort put into it.
@@atasker7432 I do think that the Sandy Leeks movie and this movie can not be any worse than what I think is the worst movie of the year so far being MegaCringe vs the Trash Syndicate

My Pachirisu: And yet we actually love this movie unlike most of you😼+👍🏻. But Yah. JOHN LASSITER HOW COULD YOU👿+😾
Even through the review and the clips that I see, I already know for a fact that Spellbound is a desperate, dull and pitiful film and to those people that say that Wish is the worst, I think Spellbound deserves that title than Wish.
(Insert Flynn Rider surrounded by swords meme here)
Also, ignore any comments regarding the rating and your Seal of Garbage. Your review, your decision.

Wish has that Wishing Star sidekick and it was adorable tbh.
You should've failed this movie outright instead of letting this movie be the worst one to pass without a Seal of Garbage rating.
I’m convinced, Skydance is HOPELESS. It’s as hopeless as Paramount Animation, making flop after flop.
Still waiting for THE BIG DISCUSSION On the closing of Muppetvision3D.
I Find Wish okay at best while it's story is basic at best but the songs except for the one with the deer and the animation give it a pass.
Been there, Sheen that.
If you know, you know (Netflix leak from months ago)
This may sound like a big or maybe a harsh statement but I think it’s safe to say that Skydance Animation is what the haters of 2020s Disney and Pixar animated films say about 2020s Disney/Pixar films. 😑 Also, the writing in Luck and Spellbound are so bad that it’ll make you feel like Mirabel from Encanto saying “Skydance your scripts are the WOOORRRSSSTT!!!” 😠😡 This is why they need to kick out John in order to help the studio be better and not be a Disney wannabe. The workers deserved better too
Doesn’t 4.5/10 mean Animat seal of garbage?

I know Thanksgiving has passed, but could you do a video on the history of the making of Free Birds?
Here’s what we got:
Leo: 6.5/10
Miraculous Ladybug and Cat Noir the Movie: 5.5/10
Spellbound: 4.5/10
Honorable mention: The Little Mermaid (2023): 6.5/10
15:09-15:15 Something to save for your reviews of "Rover Dangerfield," "The Trumpet of the Swan," "Igor," "Ribbit," "Ozzy: The Great Fur-scape", "Henchmen," "Extinct," and "Rally Road Racers." That's their comic relief in a nutshell.
Skydance Animation is basically just "We have Disney and Pixar at home"
Even last year Disney wish do not make box office all because Moana 2 was a huge box office then Inside Out 2 and wild robots for this year.
Funny u bring that up because Moana 2’s is breaking records at the box office
Soundtrack was nice, the creature designs and background designs were nice also and reminded me of Spyro, but the king and queen trying to have a divorce was not cool. But I’d rather something worse than Wish, rather than the other way round.
I bet you guys feel bad for bashing on Disney's wish now huh? well, spellbound really is one of those movie that try way too hard to be like disney and it dosen't even hide it.
I think is the first time he ever gave an animated film a 4.5/10
Now That's just Sri Lanuts

Not even, I don't care anymore about Ray Gunn. It's gonna suck ass unless it is fully dead
John Lasseter post-Disney: "I'll make my own Disney movies... with blackjack... and hookers!"
I'm going to watch the film at some point, but having read the plot and seen reactions, I can see why its not a winner.
It's a pity really when you consider the man running the studio is the man who saved Disney in the 2010s.
Will Animat review Moana 2?, because I am curious to see if he will
After a month Animat are back to the 2024 animation reviews
I’m surprised this didn’t get the Seal of Garbage
Been waiting for this review!
