- We travelled down to meet Jon and Jess - The @truebluetravellers and help them with this section of their van build for their artic explorer adventure! Jon took us to his workshop, where he assembled for us all the tools he would need should he find himself broken down in the midst of a blizzard in the cold artic environment!

First time I have seen a section of Shadow Foam used as an insert, that was a real neat solution to increase the storage capacity. Will have to remember that one for my projects! 😁😁

It's decreasing storage capacity, increasing organization!
For wrenches, sockets and other similliar stuff I would use the top (cover) part and cut them to be more snug, so they wont fall out and you got yourself more space.
But how you would keep the foam to hold to the top? 3M VHB tape. Those tapes are worth every quid they cost.

In all fairness, Even us in the States would remove the SAE from out recovery tool kit too!
I'd love to foam my tool boxes, the only drawer that wouldn't would be my "standard drawer", all of my SAE sockets and wrenches (minus hex driver/Allan bits) are thrown into one drawer for the rare times I need one OR because rust turned the metric bolt into a "standard" size!
Happy to hear that removal makes sense everywhere!
@@ShadowFoam considering everything now days comes from Asia, SAE is irrelevant! US domestic vehicles are all metric. Some construction/farm equipment is SAE, SOME! 😂 Other than that, those tools do not see use.
On a side note, if the foam is used as trays, a thin sheet of ABS glued to the bottom of the tray is a cheap and easy to cut to solution to strengthen it up and not take up much room!
I have OCD with my tools though (and only my tools actually 🤔) so any of my cased tools I had to replace with metric only sets!

We spent a small fortune in there, but luckily it was public holiday sale so got some right bargains 👌 wish they had a 4wd supacentre in the uk 👍
@@truebluetravellers You should try some of the shops in Southern Africa. I went to Cymot in Windhoek, and my jaw just dropped!
@@ShadowFoam If you're into overland travel (or 4WD's or camping in general), it's one of those places you just really wish we had here in the UK. Cymot and Bushwhackers in Namibia are similar, as are 4x4 Mega World and Safari Centre in South Africa. I miss those shops!
