Really love the concept here. So many people don’t have even the basics of tools. Just shows you can put together a useful kit to cover a range of jobs for not a lot of money.

B&Q Tool station Screw fix Wickes are all owned by same company. It would be interesting to see what £100 could get you. To see which it’s best value for money.
Pretty nifty little tool kit, as a apprentice mechanic buying all the tools has been a challenge on the ridiculously low wage, now I’ve got a good kit in work now building my at home kit slowly to at home jobs 👌 I reckon you need to do a Temu kit next!
Excellent video ! The shopping trip was fascinating and I love your bargaining style - friendly and you get what you need. As always, the foam layout is just awesome - I never get bored of watching that - you must have been brilliant at Tetris back in the day ! To end up with a comprehensive toolkit for £100 is amazing. Sure, some pieces may need to be replaced over time, but that gives you everything you need for the home enthusiast.
Discovered your page last night and watched a few of your videos, great to see a youtuber who just cracks on with what there doing no messing and honest
In my tinkering days owning a T2 campervan I started exactly like this and just progressed as I went along preferring Halfords professional as they have lifetime guarantee. I returned a 3ft breaker bar that broke after failing to remove the flywheel with a scaffold bar as leverage with no issues. My go to Philips screwdriver though was a cheap thing from Wilco I think? Great video👍
Just stumbled across your channel, i really like how you show that shopping around is better than just blowing your cash in one store, good old-fashioned common sense.👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I love old school tool shops and have used my local one for years. It's been in the same family for generations, they know me by name and the more you shop there the more you can get cheeky and ask for a deal.
Female Diyer here. I started my tool collection from pound shop, brought some nice screwdrivers, tape measures, knife set ect from there, £1. I still find some good deals. If you are starting off, you can't go wrong with poundshop or BM without breaking the bank.
When i started as an apprentice Electrician, my tool kit was as basic and cheap as you could imagine. 32 years later my gears now worth thousands. Start small and grow as you do.I've still got my Footprint 12" square❤
No bad kit for starters, a lot of my stuff comes from Amazon apart from my drills and drill bits, because I think when it comes to drills and drill bits the quality makes a hell of a difference 🇬🇧
I know its not really shopping at BnM but a few years ago i purchased an lidl table saw. The name of it is ferrex. I use it pretty much most of the time and ive never ever had any problems with it. For the money it does the job just fine. Ive no complaints about it.
Think the Soft Stanley bag is really handy to have if you don't have many tools or much space to store a larger toolkit, especially for someone new to DIY or just for that basic set for the odd job. Great video
I got that set and popped a couple of other bits I had spare in to be my quick grab kit under the kitchen sink to save going out to the shed for decent gear if there was a quick job or for flatpack etc
Not a bad set up for the price and a fun video to watch. I would still need a wood saw, pair of clamps and wood glue to make it complete for basic DIY for me. Nice find on the Allen keys too.
Nice selection. I remember having one of those orange handled screwdrivers, and you're right it was great until you lost the flippable bits! Nice work!
This had no right to be so entertaining. I've not done much DIY aside from some automotive stuff, but I'm buying a house at the moment so I definitely want to assemble a bit of a home DIY kit, this is great inspiration. I'm more of an online shopper usually, but going and having a look around some shops especially places like Whiteshaws and Pound Bargains, hopefully there are some similar shops local to me.
It was really interesting watching your search for a bergin tool kit. I do sometimes pick up bargin tools to repurpose, and you did really well with the drill.
Honestly its just nice to see that you don't have to spend £1000s to get the basics for DIY or modifications. This vid is great for people wanting to be independent but having no idea where to start, absolutely love this concept!
Just to say about the orange handled flip over screwdriver. I have had one for many years but a Draper brand one. The bits on the draper have lasted me all this time with the last 16 years spent as a handyman. Good piece of kit.
This is a good way to go when you're just starting out and then upgrade as you go when things break or wear out. I don't think i'd bother with a spanner set if it was me as they're not used much, maybe just an adjustable to cover yourself with the occasional nut and bolt.
That old crusty yellow Torch/ screwdriver and Multitool pack, gave a decent handled screwdriver and a multitool is always worth having. Keep up the great content 😁👍
I had the hacksaw that you purchased. It was used a lot to make models for my cousin's HO train layout. I used to have a lot of fun spending hours on that layout. Ah the good old days, Love your content, keep up the great job.
I inherited an amazingly diverse collection of tools when my dad passed away fifteen years ago, he was an engineer to trade and worked with precision tools, he loved buying old tools and restoring them.
@@ShadowFoam he actually made some tools for himself including a very heavy duty long screwdriver made of steel and brass which he tooled himself, like I said he was an engineer, he was also a fully qualified toolmaker and horologist
Carboot kit must be done! Also I’ve got to say .. The wham heavy duty storage boxes from Halfords are great value for money. Can take a right beating and keep your gear protected/dry. I’ve used them for years now for camping gear but have always thought they’d lend themselves well for tools if shadowfoamed! Might come in handy for any future budget friendly builds. 👀 Keep em coming 🤙
I think that the whole idea of this is genius for a home diyer it's great to see something like this. The Stanley screwdriver set is great but I like the way you went about the spanners. Great video buddy
I brought a Makita drill set with impact driver, it might be me leaving it a long time and not charging it for a long time, and when I tried to use and charge it up all I get is flashing red ( where it flashes twice then repeats over and over again), I even left it charging overnight and it will not charge. So I brought a Worx set, with it the batteries can be used on any Worx machine, which includes a chainsaws and pressure washer
I like that canvas bag setup with the two layers of foam inside. I thought about gluing the two layers back to back then a plywood handle between them to help take them out, guess you couldn't lay the two pieces side by side then when removed. Some good deals you got there, would be difficult to beat and include an impact drill. You can miss me out of the draw, I already have waaaay too many allen key sets.
That green utility knife you saw in the small hardware store, looks just like the knife you'd get in the Challenge toolkits from Argos ca. 2010. I got one of those kits when I moved into my first home at the time, and yeah knife looked just like it but in blue. Lasted a decent amount of time before I replaced it with a safety knife from Martor. Still got that Challenge kit to this day. Not the best quality, but generally gets the job done when needed.
Can’t believe I’ve found this channel! Just got my first home and need a decent way of getting a full set to work on the house and my car ! I’m based in Winsford so I could full copy cat here haha! I’ve liked and subbed hopefully can get a set of Allan keys! Cheers mate! Keep up the good work
Great video! Colour coded keys by far the best find, close second for the snips. The multiway screw drivers are brilliant, we used to get them with network routers.
I want the 'inbus' Allen keys. Disadvantage of set is they usually max out at 10mm. For those little tap extensions and so on that come without external hook for your Bahco/adjustable wrench these days, replacing it with iternal Allen cut out, at 12/13mm depending on brand. I ended up grinding the head on some M8 bolts.
I am actually in the market for a drill and a few other right now to build a little DIY garden storage. After watching this I’m going cash converters tomorrow, you’ve probably just saved me a fortune 😂
I used to run the Tools & Ironmongery department of an independent Hardware retailer. We'd always have some really old stock hiding somewhere. Know what was hidden was great, being able to solve a customers problem, when they thought they were out of luck. (Oh, and the magic hammer of repair!).
Seen those 6 in 1 screwdrivers before, I had a job where we were installing routers in telephone boxes and the router was supplied with one of those, its the most useful screwdriver I've ever had, I stashed a box full and I've slowly used them over the 15 years or so. Ran out last year but managed to find identical ones (just a different colour) on one of the chinese web sites, order a bunch while they were still available. Stanley stuff has always been good to me, its basic but reliable. Good find on the Makita drill, used Makita for years and the only issue I ever had was batteries wearing out because I used them too much. All in all a good haull and good call using your local small suppliers, always a few good bargains to be had in the smaller places.
I'm a new subscriber and love this idea, my husbands tools in his shed are everywhere and also loves your idea with the foam case you made to sit all your tools, it's given me an idea for him for father's day.
Thanks I really enjoyed that 👍 like you said at the end. A car boot sale is a good place for bargains. I'd recommend finding a local big car boot sale. There should be more going on in the summer. And you need to get there early. Very early to get the best things.
Great haul… the Allen keys have to be the sale of the century, and being ball ended are great for wriggling into hard to reach locations where you can’t get bang in line with the bolt head 😄
You know what, that idea to go cash generators was brilliant. I recently had to buy a combi drill and was looking on FB marketplace, could hardly find any decent one so I settled and bought new from B&Q. Next time ill have a look in there first. Thanks mate!
Brilliant video you just got a new subscriber - As part of my daily job I teach people DIY basics and I'm forever saying buy the cheaper options then if its something you enjoy expand onto the better tool kit and of its not then you've saved a few quid and have a basic tool kit. So this video really resonated with me :)
@@ShadowFoam thanks for asking a local one shutdown recently but there is west end DIY in March usually pretty but nothing like the Aladdin’s cave shops you went to. 👍

I've still got that old B&Q screwdriver. I bought it back in the late 90s for my RC cars. Well made, but yep, never been able to find any bits for it so it just sits in my tool case now for nostalgia 😅

Loved the video, some great bargains there! Subscribed now so just had a binge watch some of your past videos 😊 would love to add those Allen keys to my toolkit fingers crossed 🤞
this is a great video as people on a limited budget can get some great ideas from these sort of videos! i have tools for basic jobs on my car and around the house and this has given me some good ideas so thank you!!!
@@ShadowFoam the thing that was most helpful was you looking at similar tools in different shops as it gives a great idea of the differences and pricing! also i always love how you handle the foam and in this one making it fit the bag and drill case was great! i will definitely be getting some and trying to get my own tool box organised!
I love bargain hunting for tools especially at car boot sales. Found some really cheap deals on power tools at cash converters too. Those Alan key sets were a real bargain! Overall I think the best deal was the Stanley screwdriver set with the bag.
This looks like my toolkit when I was 15 working on my bike. Didn't have cordless drills back then though, well we did but you had to power them yourself!
I still haven't felt the need to replace my yello stanley screwdrivers bought as a kit 25 years ago. Every other tool has been replaced, lost or let me down. Stanley screwdriver set is the best value tool for me
Great entertaining video. The car boot sale would be a good one to watch. I used to have one of those orange screwdrivers back in the day, it was cheap but was surprisingly durable.
I love the way you make everything fit. You are the Tetris King. My wife can fit all the pots and pans etc in the cupboards. She is the Terris Queen. I know about the man draw. I found about 25 disposable utility knives when I sorted it out a few weeks ago.its a filing cabinet but I have one draw for power tools one for electronic tools like meters and battery chargers etc. This was r the first time I’ve seen your channel.. enjoyed the video cheers Ritchie A.
I have that same measuring tape you got in home bargains and I thought it was great, metal body, autolocking and has lasted me a good few years now as the house diy tape.
This has been great for me. I'm putting together a kit for my son. Spanners, sockets, and the basic DIY stuff. Surprised you didn't visit Aldi or Lidl though.
I have always been one to look for bargains when I comes to tools, but it is usually at a compromise of quality. I think you did well to get a good selection of budget tools that should do the job nicely. Best deal I think was the drill for sure, though I am also wary buying 2nd hand tools as you sometimes don't know where they came from.
Great video. Would love a set of Allan keys and the Mrs might even use them as like she says "they are pretty colours" when looking at any tools with me.
I love this, so many tools just for £100. Something like this would be perfect for starting out, the actual kit would be a great giveaway. I subscribed to your channel because 1 I love tools and two your videos are down to earth and not flamboyant. Which is northerners can relate to. Good luck getting to the magic 100k subscribers.
Like your thinking, turning a simple home kit for the occasional & simple DIY tasks into something with the look of a pro's means it's no longer chucked in drawer but on display for creditability! By the way, I found Poundland have evolved their tool choices overtime with current from previous Tommy Walsh to current Hanson stuff decent (e.g., I often reach for their smaller hammer of which I have 3 dotted around the home, garage & shed!). Thanks for another useful & in-depth real-life video!

Fantastic video. This has made me subscribe. Making me reconsider going through the tools I have and if I should look at putting together a list to make sure the basics are covered off. Kind of want to know the story behind the missing screwdriver in the shadow board.

Thanks Jimi! Top job bulk buying from the supplier, can’t say I haven’t done that in the past!
Brilliant video, very helpful to me as I start putting my toolbox together, that makita was a steal 😀
I'm a new subscriber and love this idea, my husbands tools in his shed are everywhere and also loves your idea with the foam case you made to sit all your tools, it's given me an idea for him for father's day.
Thanks for subbing! Let me know if you need any help or advice down the line! 👍
Love the idea of the challenge, looks like I will be sending for some foam as I badly need organising. Great video.
You can do it!
Makita combi was an absolute steal, a little annoying about the charger but for that price you can’t complain, good job!
The combi drill and the Allen keys sets are the best deals I believe in that setup
Hard pressed to disagree with you friend
Thanks I really enjoyed that 👍 like you said at the end. A car boot sale is a good place for bargains. I'd recommend finding a local big car boot sale. There should be more going on in the summer. And you need to get there early. Very early to get the best things.
Great tip! I’ll definitely do that mate!
Great haul… the Allen keys have to be the sale of the century, and being ball ended are great for wriggling into hard to reach locations where you can’t get bang in line with the bolt head 😄
Norman gave me a great deal, must’ve been inpressed by my Mike Brewer impression! 👍
Thanks for the sub! Happy to meet someone so like minded!
You have opened my eyes to shopping around for tools, usually I just go to screw fix, tool station etc.
Do you have any local hardware stores where you are?
@@ShadowFoam thanks for asking a local one shutdown recently but there is west end DIY in March usually pretty but nothing like the Aladdin’s cave shops you went to. 👍
Just come across your channel, and I've also just subscribed, I'm all for budgeting and the way you do it really relates, I must admit that Stanley screwdriver set looks a good buy and its amazing how much you can get done with a good set of drivers, keep doing what your doing it's a good watch
Good video. Nice easy relaxing style and done so that a novice to DIY could understand it. I would appreciate a set of Allen keys.
Thanks mate, always try and set that tone in the videos - we’re here to have fun after all 😂
A great and well thought out layout. Yes, I could do with some replacement Allen keys 🙏
I've still got that old B&Q screwdriver. I bought it back in the late 90s for my RC cars. Well made, but yep, never been able to find any bits for it so it just sits in my tool case now for nostalgia 😅
Sorry to hear that about the bits but can’t beat a bit of nostalgia! 👍
Hi mate, congratulations on winning a set of our multicoloured allen keys! We recently drew the prize winners and you were one of the lucky few! Please contact me at m.wood@shadowfoam.com and we shall organise getting your prize shipped out to you! 🎊
Lovely way to shop. I Do love the old hardware shops, Will have to pop into B&M for a set of those screwdrivers as they are always useful. Cheers
You should!
This is what I have done for my family over the years when they leave home and have their own place. Great content
Thanks Ace! What’s the best bargain you’ve found?
Great bargains, great to see, there are still some small family DIY shops around.
Loving the fact that you have bought some older tools. Would be great to see them in use
Might crack them out in future videos!
I love my tools & I have a lot, every time I use them I wipe them clean ready for the next job, so seeing these set in the foam makes my eyes 😍 love watching these videos 👌🏼
Right on! Good on you looking after your tools!
Loved the video, some great bargains there! Subscribed now so just had a binge watch some of your past videos 😊 would love to add those Allen keys to my toolkit fingers crossed 🤞
Best you can do is buy what you can afford. No point going broke for a tool kit. Great video
Couldn’t agree more with you Chris!
this is a great video as people on a limited budget can get some great ideas from these sort of videos! i have tools for basic jobs on my car and around the house and this has given me some good ideas so thank you!!!
Glad it was helpful! What stood out to you?
@@ShadowFoam the thing that was most helpful was you looking at similar tools in different shops as it gives a great idea of the differences and pricing! also i always love how you handle the foam and in this one making it fit the bag and drill case was great! i will definitely be getting some and trying to get my own tool box organised!
OMG I stumbled across your channel and this episode scratches my neatness OCD of storing tools! Stunning and super jealous 🎉😊
Haha thank goodness you found us 😅
Top quality video, definitely be trying this ahead of moving into my new house. Keep up the good work.
I love bargain hunting for tools especially at car boot sales. Found some really cheap deals on power tools at cash converters too. Those Alan key sets were a real bargain! Overall I think the best deal was the Stanley screwdriver set with the bag.
I’ll be heading to the car boot sales myself soon mate! 👍
This looks like my toolkit when I was 15 working on my bike. Didn't have cordless drills back then though, well we did but you had to power them yourself!
Sounds like the kindve drill I found in my latest video!
Great idea! I’ll be heading down car boot in the near future!
Sounds like you’ve got your man drawers organised Richie love it!
I have that same measuring tape you got in home bargains and I thought it was great, metal body, autolocking and has lasted me a good few years now as the house diy tape.
Happy to hear it’s been so reliable to you!
This has been great for me.
I'm putting together a kit for my son.
Spanners, sockets, and the basic DIY stuff.
Surprised you didn't visit Aldi or Lidl though.
I was saving those for a future video! 👌
Video production quality and knowledge is brilliant. This was so entertaining, and what a great giveaway you’re doing 😅
Can’t underestimate how useful those independent DIY stores can be when you just need something quickly and fairly cheaply!
Absolutely! They are a lifeline!
love this type of video awesome, i would have liked to see where screwfix fitted in
Come across this channel by chance and I’ve certainly not been let down.
I agree but the staff assured me that gave checks before they take items and I gave it a test before buying it!
Great video. Would love a set of Allan keys and the Mrs might even use them as like she says "they are pretty colours" when looking at any tools with me.
😅
I love this, so many tools just for £100. Something like this would be perfect for starting out, the actual kit would be a great giveaway. I subscribed to your channel because 1 I love tools and two your videos are down to earth and not flamboyant. Which is northerners can relate to. Good luck getting to the magic 100k subscribers.
That screwdriver set looks great value, may have to see if I can grab a set, love the colour coded allan keys.
Fingers crossed you win a set in our tombola!
that home bargains tape has been my go to for the last 4 years its outlived a few others deffo good for the price
Happy to hear it’s lasted so long! 👍
I’ll definitely be checking out Poundland tools in the future, thanks for the tip mate!
Hi Ivor, congratulations on winning a set of our multicoloured allen keys! We recently drew the prize winners and you were one of the lucky few! Please contact me at m.wood@shadowfoam.com and we shall organise getting your prize shipped out to you! 🎊
Never even thought of cash generators for drills! Will be popping in next payday
Fantastic video. This has made me subscribe. Making me reconsider going through the tools I have and if I should look at putting together a list to make sure the basics are covered off.
Kind of want to know the story behind the missing screwdriver in the shadow board.
Haha I knew someone would notice that! Keen eye! Not a fun story I’m afraid, I used it to fix something in the unit during filming
The TH-cam algorithm has worked its wonders, such a good video to start the journey with. It's given more some food for thought with some DIY jobs to knock off soon
Haha happy you’ve found us Martin, welcome aboard!
Fair play, a lot of people don't know what to get to start a tool kit. You did great for a small budget
Thanks William, anything stand out to you?
@@ShadowFoam 3 things sttod out,1, you gave actual good advice ie get good screwdrivers 2, the makita drill find and 3 the allen key set find
