- We finally arrive to Cascais outside Lisbon! Joaquim, one of our Patrons takes us on a ride through the surroundings and up to the natural park of Sintra. After some days in Cascais we move the boat to Lisbon to get some city life.
We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved in to our sailboat RAN, a one-off aluminium built Beason 40, and untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter and started sailing south along the coast of Europe. There is no set route and we will go where the wind and our minds takes us.

You get up at sparrow-fart and start sailing when there is no wind! You need to rearrange your day, champ; a 'morning glory' session, a re-invigorating swim followed by a late brekkie, a few chores and by 11 am hopefully a breeze has got up for a nice sail, and saving the diesel.
By my estimation, and Malin's I suspect, its a win/win all the way around...even 4 years later as I catch up on your early travels!

Hey RAN crew! Love your videos! I don't know where you guys are going after Lisbon but I suggest going into the Mediterranean and up the cost of Spain. Beautiful beaches, historical cities and amazing weather! You won't regret it! You should definitely check out a 2000+ year old city called Cartagena.

Hi Guys, Your travelog shots are better than the TV guys... And the sailing shots are just like being with you...
I like that you don't move the camera too quickly and your speaking is good volume and just the right speed.
Hope the cold goes away, I've had one for 5 days already and here in Montenegro it's really warm... Go figure!:)

Everyone warned us of the winds across the Bay of Biscaye .... But we had NO wind. We motored the whole way. Just as we reached Gibraltar ..... the winds came. Nothing more pleasing than the sound of the diesel shutting down and the sound of the sails filling with air. ... and then we were surrounded by whales. +10
I know this was ages ago. I spent 10 days in Lisbon actually about 10 miles north on the cost. Some interesting things in the town I was in you could drive to the beach easily 5 minutes. On the beach the trees grew up about a foot and then parallel to the ground they said because of the wind. The natural harbor you can understand why they were such big traders all across the world. Downtown was incredible it contained 7 hills and I walked a couple and they were very very steep they said to steep for fire trucks. I met a police officer walking downtown I had to ask about the parking. If you got down town people parked anywhere they wanted I mean anywhere. I said don’t you give out tickets and he said they gave up a long time ago. Some of the boulevards were incredible very wide and lots of sidewalk cafes. My first real cup of coffee European way. I found out they were responsible for the spread of the peppercorn thru there shipping Across the world. Last was when I was driving into town it looked like a forest of those tall building cranes lots of them. Anyway played in a golf tournament sponsored by the Government to increase travel.
Most western part of Europe is in Iceland, called Bjargtangar. But cool video.
binni ragg, Cabo da Roca is the westernmost part of continental Europe. Iceland is non-continental Europe...

I always enjoy your videos. Fun and interesting. If you like eucalyptus you should come to Australia, our countryside is all eucalypts and smells wonderful on a warm summers day as the oil is released.

I have had withdrawal symptoms for last 10 days, no decent broadband until we arrived in Galaxidia (Gulf of Corinth) and have just watched this video and OMG - you have both taken this to just another level. Absolutely fantastic. I was in Cascais in the early 1980s - it was a beautiful fishing village then. You are setting the new standard what a f****** production. 👍

Another great video! Did you happen to hear what that metal monument at the riverside in Viana do Castelo commemorates? I assume it's a monument to lost ships and sailors with it's broken chain, but I couldn't find any info on it. I don't know if you and Malin are big sports fans, but I saw her wearing a New York Yankees hat and I am just hoping she happened to get the hat in New York and is not a fan of the Yankees. The hated Yankees are the arch-rivals of the baseball team I root for, the Boston Red Sox... It was a shock to see her wearing that hateful cap but I'll get over it!

Sorry about Malin's hat, she bought it in a sport store in Sweden and "unfortunately" they sell this kind everywhere back home :) We're no sports fan so we're not thinking about it. Great video. I will be there in my own boat in about 2 years. Regarding inflating your dinghy, get rid of the foot pump. Buy one of these vacuum cleaners that also blows from a hardware store. they will fill and deflate your dinghy in seconds. Here is a link to the vacuum cleaner. Type this brand WS0250VA in google and you will get a photo of the vacuum. It also sucks water. Excellent for spills. Don't waste your money on a battery operated vacuum. They are not strong enough. Use the 110 volt one.

wonderful video. thank you for sharing. We have a 47 foot Meta Dalu on the West Coast of N. America. We should talk sometime about swapping boats for a month or two so you can visit this beautiful area and we can see Europe again.

As a portuguese that sails in the river all my life I can tell that the foostage is very impressive and comments by this swedish beatifull girl with a very sexy voice are very accurate and very informative. Keep posting your videos. They are very enjoyable.

Great video Malin & Johan. Could you explain the entrance and departing procedures for Portugal.
Thanks Steven! The entrance and departing producedures weren't different from any other European country for us. You just need to visit the Marina office and fill in the normal form and show your passports, boat registration and insurance. We guess it's different arriving with a boat registered in a non European union country. Take care!

When you are using the drone during sailing, do you fly with "Home Lock"?
