Hey guys! Loving the factiods you've included about the places you've visited. Really impressed with the production values. Best British sailing channel by far. Keep doing us proud, you Brummie Buggers!
Thanks guys for visiting my country and showing to the world how he is. Most Europeans knows what to espect from Portugal, the rest of the world dont, so thanks again!
Hi Ricardo! Portugal has been absolutely beautiful, so much to see. Can definitely see ourselves heading back to explore more In the future. Thanks for watching 😊
I really love your content! Having recently bought a little 23ft boat myself, I am amazed at what you are accomplishing and making it look so easy (I'm a thousand percent sure it isn't as easy as it looks, especially your orca encounter). Fair winds and happiness to you both - all the way from South Africa. P.S. If ever your journey brings you here, we'd love to hang out!
Aw thank you so much for the lovely comment! That's awesome that you've bought a small boat too, sure you're gonna have a lot of fun ☺️ oh yes it's definitely not easy, it's been a steep learning curve but we're so so glad we've done it - having the time of our lives 😁 absolutely if ever we find ourselves there 👍 fair winds to you and all the best! ⛵
I wish I had watched this when it first came out so that I would have the chance to encourage you to visit the aquarium - it's one of the best I've been to. Lisbon is great. I was glad to see that you didn't miss the pasteis de nata. :)
Hey David! We did manage to squeeze in a visit to the aquarium, but as we are so rubbish at filming still we didn't even get the cameras out 👎 we agree it was a great aquarium! Nice to see them doing so much conservation work, and interesting to see a sunfish there too - that was the first time we'd ever seen one! Lisbon was very cool, those pasteis de nata were to die for, we definitely overindulged on them the short time we were there haha
Hi guys. Looks like you handled that bit of wind absolutely fine. I usually have the main up when I'm motoring, I think it gives a bit of stability. Lisbon is great. I 1st went there in 1972, I was 18 and a steward on board the old Arcadia - 32,000 tons of lust rust and rivets (actually she was welded, doesn't quite trip off the tongue) - outward bound to Australia and half a year of south Pacific cruising, which I didn't realise when I signed on, I thought I was doing a couple of cruises round the Med! I didn't make it far from the docks at that time, ended up in the Texas Bar, what a dive! Got approached by a Portuguese woman - well, I was 18 and a bloke!! Took me a minute or two to work out what she wanted me to do with the bidet - I'd never seen one before! Aah, looking back, it's been a laugh! Anyway, I digress. Earlier this year, when we rounded cap St Vincent it was like a bloody mill pond, we were getting some westerlies on the nose the day before we got there (we were coming from Faro).I noticed a couple of yachts right inshore round that area, obviously locals who knew the area really well. If you make it up the Guardiana to Alcoutim you might see my mate, Dave, or his boat Castiard. He sailed her down there on his own last year. It's nice up the Guardiana, apparently. Happy trails!!
It definitely wasn't half as scary as we were expecting thankfully! I guess the relatively calm sea state helped too :) Yeah that makes sense about the main, we finally started doing this - every day is a school day haha. WOW what an adventure that must have been! For an 18 year old as well, bet you had the time of your life doing that. The Texas bar was a colourful place from what we hear haha, thanks for sharing your stories! Wonder how much Lisbon has changed since 1972? We did actually make it up the Guadiana (we squeezed in just a one day/one night stay) and it was absolutely beautiful! We stayed on a mooring ball at Laranjeiras (ran by a guy called Scott). Would definitely recommend a visit :). Cheers for watching and commenting, hope you're well!
Ahhh loved this episode really reminded me of Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown. Lisbon is one place we would love to go. Can’t wait for the next instalment of Jade and Brynn Parts Unknown 😆
Haha love that!! We're very happy with that comparison :D. It's well worth a visit, a lot of interesting things to see there, I think we only scratched the surface. Thanks for watching Sally, and glad you liked the video :) take care! Jade & Brynn (parts unknown haha)
Guys I LOVE your channel, I’ve watched so many sailing channels but only subscribe to 2, you’re one of them. I’m doing the same as you two, decided last October I want to circumnavigate, bought a boat in December and been learning to sail. Leaving Weymouth in April and doing the same route as you, 2 years in the Med, then the Atlantic. So watching your videos gets me buzzing for it. Hopefully see you down the Med somewhere. You’ll be invited on WEYMOUTH WARRIOR for beers. Safe journey.
Wow thank you so much! That's very kind words 😊 really glad you're enjoying our journey. Awesome that you're planning something similar, can't wait to hear how it turns out! So many adventures up ahead of you. You must be so excited, not long until you cut the lines then by the sound of it 😬 yes we're also planning a couple of years in the Med, so hopefully see you out there. ⛵🌊
It is lovely to see you both excited and enjoying life. The area around the marina looks beautiful, especially with all the bougainvillea on the houses - it reminds me of Kas, Turkey - which I am hoping you will visit at some point of your adventures?
Aw thank you so much 😊 we are having such a brilliant time, so many beautiful places to see! Around the marina is stunning, it's a lovely atmosphere too. Ooh we've never been to Turkey, we definitely plan to though 😊 we are possibly going to be wintering in Turkey next season which we're very excited about!
It's a beautiful and very interesting city! Unfortunately we were on a bit of a time constraint due to the Schengen visa, but I'm sure we'll be back again one day :)
Use the pole lots, from a broad reach on, it gives the sail a much better shape, and power. Beware though, when the wind suddenly picks up it can be hard and risky taking it down. Try, clip on to mast, with a line attached to the outer end, clip the line to the clew, pull in the line, cleat, ideally back at cockpit. If you are on a reach, you need a shorter pole, achieve this by not pulling in the line so much, but put the a loop of cord on the clew to stop the outer end of the pole falling down. ps, would there not be a land/sea breeze near the coast ?
Hey, thanks for taking the time to comment. We still have alot to learn about using our pole. I think the more we practice the better we will get. As for sea breeze I couldn't tell you for sure but it seems the wind was always dead in the am, the in the afternoon 4pm onwards it built up quite a bit. Still getting to grips with local weather and best navigating it 😁.
We lived in Cascais for two years when I worked at the NATO HQ in Oerias. Lisbon is such a beautiful city and so is that whole coast line. I'm dying to know how you got back to the UK for winter. Did you do it in one hit or have we got to wait and see?🤣🤣
Wow, what a beautiful place to have lived! We agree, the architecture blew us away and there's so much to see. We actually flew back to the UK for the winter and left our boat in Almerimar 👍 we plan to fly back next season and then continue our journey to explore the Balearics, then Italy, Croatia, Albania and onwards 😍
You don't have to go into the marina at Cascais, you can stay on anchor just in front of the beach. We stayed a couple of days last June without any problem
It's so obvious how much that man loves her! She's a wonderful girl, who could blame him? I love the way they care for each other. ❤🙂 Where do I find a girl like that?
I did my Dayskipper and the ICC was included with it from the RYA 👍 we've never been asked about it yet though, in fact we haven't been asked about any qualifications so far
Hi, unfortunately we didn't have a lot of wind that's why we were motoring. It was forecast high but we had nothing until we got to the acceleration zone, and then we did sail 👍
Looks beautiful there! Great you enjoyed it. Lovely video too! Thanks guys!
It was an incredible place to see! Beautiful and definitely worth a visit 😊 Cheers for watching and glad you enjoyed it.
Beautiful visit. thanks!
Aw thank you for watching 😁
Me too............good stuff, I take my hat off to you two............
Ah thanks so much 😊😊
Hey sailing in 32 knots and everyone still has a big smile on their faces, great stuff.
Thanks so much 😊 we were nervous as to how our boat (and us!) would handle it - turns out it wasn't as terrifying as we expected!

Hey Matt, thanks for the comment - means a lot! Glad to have you onboard, plenty more adventures ahead. Sending some brummie boat love your way!

@@ChasingCurrents :) Yes, I have an excess of pictures of the sunfish.
Lisbon has an excellent Maritime Museum too. IIRC it's near the Belem Tower.
@@cornishhh Yes, great exhibits.
If it’s a bit rolly and you need to visit the heads, heave to. It does help a lot. Thanks for the vids you two!
Ahh good point! Good to practice too 👍 thanks for watching 😊
Waaaa we got a mention 😊😊 haha. Loved the vid guys
You gave us soo many useful tips! Haha, we definitely owe you a cocktail 😂 Aw thanks for watching! x
That was really an awsome journey you've taken us through the Lisbon region in Portugal. Can't wait to go there! Thanks!

An update on Orcas , the first two weeks in October saw 4 Orca attacks and all 4 lost their rudders along the coast of Spain

Have you considered sheet to tiller self steering? A line from the boom or the jib clew.. It takes no power!
Yes this is definitely something we're looking into! Seems a good solution 👍
Well done guys. You are doing well. Rory. Kwwp on sailing the dream.
Aww thanks so much 😊😊
