Nice video experience and music. Always like dolphins too. Good weather window you got and no trouble with grounding with that keel arrangement. I will eventually catch up. Btw I think I see this boat ashore in today’s video on the diy anchor test (you know hard sand).
Hi Sea Rambler! Your video is instructive to me. In September I bought my sailing boat in Barcelona and need to have it on the Ocean side, in France. First idea was to sail around Spain and Portugal, then across the Bay of Biscaye. But prevailing winds seemed to be always against us and it would have been over one month motoring. Your story confirms this. I don't think it's worth it, so it looks like our boat will travel by road (although it will be a 5000€ affair :( ). It would be interesting to know the fuel budget for your trip. Happy sailings now that you're home!
Hi. At this time of the year you should get favorable winds from the south although not calm seas tho. We motored at around 5kts, average of 1.6 liters/h so less than 100€ in diesel. But waited for that weather window so that we could have flatish seas. If coming from Barcelona to Jersey(on my cruiser) it would be about 1600NM @ 5kts, 1.6 liters/h = €900ish in diesel. It would take about 17 days if you could keep 5NM/h and sail 24/7 stopping only a day or two to rest, refuel and supplies. But... crossing the Biscay at this time of the year is not safe. You would need to find a proper weather window and that might mean staying a few days in the north of Spain in a marina. This is a very rough estimate off the top of my head, don't take it for anything more than that please! And good luck! Teo
@@SVsearambler Thank you Teo, for your quick answer! I also agree that this is not the best time of year to make such a voyage. It's a shame, but our mind is set now and our boat (junk rigged schooner Freedom 39) will definitely "sail"to the Atlantic on a lorry! I'm eager to have it on the Ocean side, and then there will be plenty more sailing opportunities. Fortunately I have sold my precedent boat, this will help paying for the transport price. Is your next destination Jersey, or have you already completed this voyage?
This was just to show possible costs on a trip from Barcelona to the channel. I have been up and down the Portuguese coast a few times but I have never gone up north on any boat. I have no intention whatsoever to seek colder climates! 🥶
Excellent blend of new-comer to sailing and gifted sailor/artisan. A perfect and enticing introduction to sailing. My favourite Western Spaniard.
This Western Portuguese welcomes you aboard! 😉
Magic moments. Your relaxed presentation style is perfect.

yes it's the Kingfisher 30 that you see there on the beach 😉
