We all wanted the next generation of consoles to support 21:9 ratio ultrawide monitors. In this video, I test the PS5 on an ultrawide monitor. I also take a look at some of the settings and compare the differences between PS5 and PC on an ultrawide monitor in a game (Call of Duty: MW/Warzone 2019).

Pretty crazy that almost two years later, Sony still does not support 3440x1440 Ultrawide, still only upscales 16:9. At least they added a 1440 output, but I don't understand lack of Ultrawide support. For games like Gran Tourismo it would be very easy for devs to make the support.

@@ViniciusSantos-ux7lb Nope, not native 3440x1440. It will stretch out standard 2560x1440 to fill 3440x1440, but it does not render natively at 3440...

Sony could do a simple update and 21:9 and 32 would work easy but getting them to do it probably never going to happen so how can you take these next gen consoles serious when they cant do this one simple feature????????
I’m with you on that. They need to step up their game. Gotta go with PC if you want to properly take advantage of the wider ratios 💯. That said, PS5 does pack a punch for a $400-$500 price tag.
Ultrawide gaming is still kind of niche, even amongst PC gamers, several monitor set ups are mostly the norm
Exploring things outside of the norm is a good thing. For many things in life, not just monitor ratios.
It’s not a common thing for consoles, it’s quite a niche

Thank you! Stock is hard to find on all the consoles. I follow Wario64 on Twitter to get updates on restocks, because they don’t last long. Most sites have done a better job trying to thwart the bots, though.

and when i play on my ps5 its very stretchy

The stretching is most likely done by the monitor itself, not the console. so So there is always a good chance, your particular monitor will not stretch it at all if it does not have that option for whatever reason.
It is done by the monitor, and in most cases there are settings to play with black bars on the sides rather than play with the stretching. If you want to play in a wider ratio, however, you will have stretching.
you have to redo these videos with a FOV that is the same on both.
I'm curious what size ultra wide your monitor is? Would the stretch be the same with an ultra wide monitor that's 32inch compared to a 50inch? Or would the 50inch stretch it even more?
The monitor in this video is a 21:9 ratio 32”. I also have a 32:9 ratio 49” monitor. If you use the full screen on the 49”, it stretches more because it is a wider ratio. However, the 49” super ultra wide allows for split screen with multiple inputs. That allows you to have an input with something like a tv show, movie, sports game, or whatever, and an input for your console, both on the same screen.
How is the PS5 showing 2160p if the monitor is not 2160p? I thought 1440p screens (I guess that’s what your Sceptre is) are downscaled to 1080p in the PS5 settings…
In order to capture the screen rather than just facing a camera at it to record it, I had to run it through my capture card. It’s a 4K capture card, so the PS5 recognizes that it can accept that resolution.

Great video, but the FOV has nothing to do with the PS5. It is up to the game itself to determine weather it is supported.
Yes, but FOV and aspect ratio are two different settings. The new consoles have a couple games that have an FOV slider, but they don’t have a setting for 21:9 at all. Hi. What is the native resolution of your Ultrawide monitor? Is it 3440x1440 or higher?
I have a Dell U3419W which has a native 3440x1440 60hz resolution with HDMI 2.0 ports.
Will the PS5 output 3440x2160 60hz to my display, the display then accepts the signal and downscales it to 2560x1440 with black borders?
Basically anything better than 1080p as it looks terrible on a 3440x1440 monitor.
I can set my monitor to display the image without stretching it.
If not will one of those HDMI EDID emulator adapters do the trick? I know they are normally used to get 1080p 120fps on 1440p high refresh rate monitors.

My ultra wide monitor is 3440x1440, 100 Hz on HDMI 1 and Display Port, 60Hz on HDMI 2 and 3.

I don’t think the PS5 will output the higher resolution if it recognizes the monitor can’t accept it. 1080P with black borders is what I get on mine if I set the monitor not to stretch the image.
As for the adapter.. I’m not sure, as I haven’t used one, but I am curious and may look into it.
@@DocValentino Many thanks for the reply. My Xbox One X has native 1440p support which results in black borders (preferred) or stretched image. My PS4 Pro only displayed 1080p and I think my monitor will just do the same with a PS5 like you mentioned.

Hey Ali, that you for the question. The 21:9 ratio makes the editing process so much better, it's not even comparable. For gaming with a PS5, it would either stretch the image, which isn't a pleasurable gaming experience in most cases, or you can change the monitor settings to display a 16:9 ratio with black bars on the sides. If you're going to be using it for more than console gaming, 21:9 is the way to go in my opinion. This is a really good 21:9 monitor that's on sale right now amzn.to/3OsSj3n

Thank you for the question. The video was more about the aspect ratio support (or lack thereof), but yes, it supports 4K at the 16:9 ratio. With my set up, the stretched image is 1440p.
Hi have you already played Storygames like ghost of Tsushima dark souls or God of war on 21:9 with Ps5. If yes does it make fun is it good?
I have not, but I do have Ghost of Tsushima, and intend to play it. I will probably use my 4K 16:9 monitor, but I can test it out in the ultra wide.
I didn’t see you had Dark Souls in there, I have that for PS5 also, but it’s still in the cellophane for now. My GoW is the PS4 version, but it will play on PS5. I could demo all 3 I suppose.

No problem! I have a mic video lined up for this week, but I can probably line that up for sometime over the next two weeks or so.
I don't even care that it doesn't 21:9, I would be ok with it having the black lines on the sides....
The black lines don’t bother me much when aspect ratios are off either. A stretched image bothers me much more.

Yes, but it will still be stretched or have black bars on the sides.

I’m not familiar with that monitor, but my 21:9 34” Sceptre is what I used on this video, and I can change the settings in the menu.. I almost prefer not stretching, though. I also have a Samsung Odyssey G9 32:9 ratio, but I haven’t tried the PS5 on it yet. I am curious if it will stretch that far.

Yes. You can change the aspect ratio in the monitor settings.

It should still display fine, no? With my PS5 outputting 2160p to this 1440p ultra wide, it just rescales.
@@DocValentino it gives me 1080p on my 35 inch curved monitor and my monitor is 1440p and unfortunately it is blurry and i don't like it .. i decided to buy xbox because ps5 can't run it ... maybe in future if ps5 support it i will change my console .. thank you for the video :)
