- Yet again, we find more bodge repairs on Shmee150's classic Porsche 914 project. This really is a financial disaster and one that we said we would restore! Another episode in the bag and many more bodge repairs to face. We are slowly getting one step closer to getting this car back on the road!
I cannot believe how therapeutic I find watching these videos and seeing this level of craftsmanship to ensure the restoration is done properly
Same here!
100% on this. The lofi music coupled with fabrication just does it for me
i couldn't agree more, it heals my soul somehow watching these.
This never ends. Wonder how much this would cost for a normal customer. The skill and craftsmanship of these guys is next level.
It would cost far more than it will ever be worth. Shmee really should have looked for a better example as this one is full of bodged repairs but TH-cam videos will more than cover the cost
They probably would have rejected this amount of work for other customers. I have a feeling they might only do large scale repairs if they can get them on camera.
@@jwalster9412 TH-cam and rising classic car prices have made such repairs feasible. Otherwise they’d just be scrapped
@@adrianbennett3761 Yep, that goes without saying. Impressive work anyway.
@@jwalster9412 Hence my comment on this work on a "normal" customer project. I guess they would give me a big laugh if I turned up asking to do a project like this, haha.
great video, great music, amazing skills. I think a lot of us are concerned that your brilliant Dad is not currently making videos. It seems like prying but I sincerely hope he is ok.
Ryan, how are you not screaming and running in circles at this point?
It's right up there with the disaster Datsun ridiculousness abomination. You are really honing those skills you have. Doing a great job!
That poor little Porsche has had a very tough life. In very good hands now. Amazing work.
"I cannot believe how therapeutic I find watching these videos and seeing.." - his face, even when he knows what's coming :)
Wow, the level of rust is unbelievable. I'm willing to wager you have lightened the car by 50 kilos just removing all of the filler.
The attention to detail is unreal even on the bits you can't see.
Awesome work gents keep it up 👍💪
Brilliant craftsmanship in every episode, hope Shmee realises what a great job everyone is doing!
lets hope schmee has very very deep pockets as that heap was not worth the work maybe the content its awful .
so satisfying to watch
Wow, Ryan, I have a lot of respect for your patience. I would have pushed this miserable rustbucket over the next cliff long ago. But so I can enjoy watching panel surgery at it´s best. Keep it up! Shoutout from SW Germany!
Nice to see Roco the emotional support Parrot back helping out , damm on this one he's really needed! Superb work as ever guys
These videos are awesome. Really shows how a metal magician can properly restore a total basket case.
Topper job 👍 still can't get over the state and amount of work needed.
So nice to see craftsman at work keep up the great work
It should be called "Triggers Broom"!
I'm enjoying seeing the lengths that you go to.
A whole family of master craftsmen! You guys ROCK!
Thanks to you, this Porsche 914 will survive! Thank you, great work!
I love the way you just do it the right way! 😊
I loved my 914 back in the day. Glad to see this one being saved.
Absolutely fascinating the ability of your craftsmanship! Basically the whole car is a template to manufacture a new car.
Great to see what can actually be done by highly skilled professionals.
You guys are magicians with metal. Cheers from across the pond. 😍
The gift that keeps on Giving 🤣
Great bit of fabrication Ryan. You are getting there.
epic! as always. keep up the good work.
Brilliant video, more akin to your earlier ones. Love seeing the detailed metal work again!
A new superhero is born, Dr.Rust
I enjoy seeing these classic cars being brought back to life.
I could see the despair in your face Ryan!! Most of that rot around the light aperture was created by the factory sealer 🤨 the platingbodgery on the inner sill is a joke! Hasn't been done long by the looks of it..the's not much surface rust! People who are "restoring" vehicles in this fashion should leave well alone!! 🤦♂️ Great job guys! 👍
You have some skill , amazing workmanship buddy , I’m a stone mason to trade myself , watching from Scotland ❤️🏴
One of your best for a while Ryan. Where's your Dad? We're missing him
Agreed, love seeing all the metal work. Missing Steve too
News flash, he ran for the hills on this one! Lol
Probably getting fed up with these bodges, can't say I blame him, sheesh it's a never ending nightmare!EVERY turn theres rust, good lord this is surely 95.5% rust!👎👎👎😬😬😬😬🤔🤔💀💀💀💀😱🇬🇧🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
I love your persistence. Personally I'd have scrapped this piece of junk!
you guys are def awesome at what you do! unbelievable metal work!
Beautiful work 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🇬🇧
Hi Ryan ur dads not made any videos in ages is he ok
Great work on the sheet metal repairs.
great work guys, nice to see rocco being useful lol
Another great video showing skill and expertise.
I can't believe the shocking job the previous restorers, apologies I meant destroyers did
That look, continuous drilling in the hopes of finding the end of the disaster... that says it all ! 🤣🤣🤣
A work of art in metal, Ryan is very patient, what a family all very skilled
You’re turning into that painter from that 80’s show Murphy Brown. The guy never finished painting.
When you'll be done with it, actually you will have crafted a brand new 914. There won't be much of the orignal car in it. Great job !
Some great panel fans the Ryan. Looks brill. JOE
The amount of panels makes me think that the previous mechanic used to do RV/camper roofs. "JUST ADD A NEW LAYER!"
WOW - the talent and craftsmanship is outstanding :) Loved the Vid, thank you.
Excellent bit of tin bashing there Ryan. Unbelievable that people do shoddy repairs and "fill" everything!
I get bad repairs. I get trying to make it look good with bondo. But why on earth did they put literally an inch of bondo?? That even destroys the original car with so much extra stuff.
Awesome content showcasing great skills in restoring old cars. You should team up with vice grip garage in the US. I can foresee some great content with Dereks car collection. Keep up the good work 👍
The previous owner of that car bodged every repair and covered it up. Imagine how bad the engine and gearbox are likely to be with the same attitude………😱
An artiste in action ,please let Mr come learn some more ! Fabby welder 27 years pleaseeeeee
I'll bet Tim gets absolutely sick every time you guys upload. LMAO 🤣. But fantastic craftsmanship
Fantastic video and fantstic series - it struck me, not only was the porsche more filler than metal, but if the body was like this... what are the mechanical parts like! :o
that was probably the original factory sealant behind the headlight bit. Must've seemed like a good idea at the time but once moisture gets under it.....
Loving it.
After watching your videos I am sure most classic cars driving around are more filler than metal now!
That restomod 911!
Jeeez, the labour cost alone 😮
i will say this your uncle is outstanding on the metal work. where is your dad these days?
Love watching the skill and care that goes into your work, this car will be so much lighter when Tim gets it back to when he brought it in , shame it wasn't weighed before you started to see how much more heavier it was compared to a stock 914
I an surprised that you're not using repair panels. Are they not available? Given the cars well known rust issues I would have thought some were out there?
So this is all great and all, but don’t you guys have rotisseries? This looks like some proper self-mortification to me. Also, get some dry ice to remove sound deadening. So much easier. And what about the laser machine? Don’t see that being used much anymore, isn’t it as good as advertised? I tried to get the body of my project laser cleaned, or rent a machine to do it myself. But it turned out so expensive that I went for the trusty sand blasting in the end. Must have been a good choice as you guys don’t even use it while you have one. And how is your dad doing? I like to see the master at work sometimes again 😊
If Ryan knew how much rust and bodge there would be back at the start, I’m sure Tim would have said “bin it, I’ll buy a decent one!” as there is no historic value for this car. However, you’ve got to admire Ryan’s patience as well as fabrication skills. Keep them coming, there will be plenty more episodes I’m sure 👍
I think that might give the datsun a bit of competition
At 16 min, even Rocco needed CPR!
I cannot wait for Patches to be finished. It will be 99% rebuilt.
Ready the boiling oil for the prior bodywork “professional”!
Nice 😎😎😎👍👍👍
Thanks for the amazing videos. What kind of spray/paint do you use?
Amazing job you guys are doing, but something came to my head: would it still be patches due to the amount of pieces of panels you are fixing and replacing?
No, new name is jigsaw
@@77raymo that one is good! haha
Ryan, do you ever use Lead or Tin Alloys to get really smooth repairs?
I ask as I saw it done by Mat Armstrongs bodyshop and on the restoration of Elvis Presleys 1950s BMW. Seems not many use this technique anymore?
Yet another 'Trigger's Broom' (ask your Dad and Uncle) of a car!
What's happening with mat Armstrong E 24. Are you making mats body kit?
Would it make work easier if the hand shear pivot was tight there fore cutting better , great art work once again
Have you done a before and after on how much it weighs with all that body filler removed
This car is an absolute nightmare xD
Did you say there's not much left to do on Patches???? 😳😂
Wishful thinking
Too bad you didn’t weigh it before and after !
Curious how much “Bondo” was removed !
Who ever bodged this with the intent to sell is probably that close to being criminal, it isn't funny! If this were to have been involved in a serious accident I don't think the occupants would have liked the results; I shudder. Ryan and the YCR Team, great work in restoring this to date. I would have put it in the car crusher ages ago..
I think it’s really a Datsun 😉
It was more like a sculpture than a car 😂
It's still not late too late to scrap it 😁
And people say that Italian cars rust..... Karmann Ghia has a well deserved reputation for building rust buckets, they engineer it in at the factory.
It may have been asked and answered before but is there a reason why you don’t dip these cars to get rid of all the rust and filler? Surely it would be more time (cost) effective than stripping it with a wire wheel.
Thanks for the video.
Do you plan to continue with the Mazda Cosmo or is the car gone?
@4:00 Would it have been quicker to just rebuild the entire frame and body from scratch at this point?
That car is a whole 20ft container of worms!
By the time all of the rusted panels are replaced and this car is restored, it is going to be the most expensive 914 in the world.
And worth under 45K
Hello 👋 my number one best buddy Ryan captain yorkshire 👍 👌 👏 buddy it was a pure delight to watch you do your extremely good fabrication man I loved that piece you did around the tail lamp i loved it all. I know without a doubt yorkshire car restoration is the best worldwide 🌐 🙌 without a doubt your the best 👌 👍..take care buddy and tell everyone I said hello 👋.
Have you ever had anybody own up to the previous atrocious work...? 😂
What in the world do you suspect happened to this car in its history that would have caused all of these various patch jobs on the body. It’s crazy.
If someone sort of “in the trade” gets sold something like this, what chance do the rest of have?
Really surprised that the jacking point repaired panels didnt rust from the inside
Repairs must have been done quite recently for a quick sell.
It,s not mission difficult dr.Rust,it’s Mission Impossible
That poor bird is being abused, somebody should call childlike!!!! Poor Rocco.
I wonder what the weight difference would have been between before and after with all that filler and layered metal instead of butt welded sheet metal that's now being removed.
At what point do you bin the chassis and get another one.. I mean.. it's crazy.. the amount of hours you have to put in you can get a whole car for that.
Will there be any original steel left when (if) it's ever finished?
Why do you not use a vacuum cleaner connected to the angle grinder?
Would be much healthier than having all that filler dust going around within the facility.
