- The classic Disaster Datsun 260Z is back! And with it, brings a whole host of disasterous rust which we need to tackle! In this video we start on with the front structural wing support which was rusting from the inside and the outside! We make a panel by hand and get it welded on!
One step closer to being one step less of a Disaster!
Check out one of the previous videos where we uncover crazy bodge repairs and masses of rust!

it's like a long lost friend is back . been missing this one
Thanks! Lovely to see some proper Japanese rust again after all those weeks of Kraut. 😉
i am no metal worker, just a very simple woodworker, but... i love to see how you over come the challenges you face. whilst it doesn't help me directly, it does make me "think outside the box" as it were when tackling problems. keep up the great vids :)
Man the disaster Datsun is my fav on this channel. Glad to spott it again :)
Yay the Datsun is back and boy have I missed it. Been struggling for new content from this channel because I refuse to watch anything linked to the obnoxious Shmee and Auto Alex.
Keep up the good work, the Datsun is amazing.
Glad it's not just me that feels that way about Its All About Smee
I don't care, who owns the cars. I don't care, if they are famous or not.
Although I ended up here, because of Colin Furze.
I love the journey of the repair, not about ownership.
So great to see the disaster Datsun back on! Need more of this build please.
my favourite car on you're channel welcome back
So good to see the datsun again
When I was doing rust repair jobs “back in the day” I thought my jobs were bad. But YOUR rust repair jobs bring a new perspective on what REAL bad jobs are. I would never have tacked a job of that size,,,, if I lived closer to your garage I would ask for your autograph!! 😂😂
An English wheel would have shaped that metal so you wouldn’t have had to make so many cuts. Glad you’re back on the Z!!! Look forward to more progress!!
Just relaxing and beautifull to watch an incredible restauration for all the years
Glad to see the Datsun back on the channel! Not sure if there will be much original steel in this by the time you're done. Are we going to see Steve on any videos? Seems like it's been a while since he has been on camera.
The "D" Datsun is always a treat, thanks for posting.🐞
Delighted to see the return of the Datsun. Every time I see it I think it must have been parked on the seabed for a decade or two! Great workmanship as ever 🙂
Doing a Z myself, I sub'd when you only showed the Z and the jeep. I know you guys are so much busier now and I thought this had been shelved, so thanks for posting.
It is his own car, so it has to take a back seat when they have alot of other cars in. I imagine they literally get too many in the workshop and have to switch to smaller money makers to gain some space/income!
run away......run away, thanks for bringing it back!!
Thanks for posting a new video on the repair of this lovely Japanese Lady. Hope to see more of her soon!
This must be one of your best fabrication videos yet Ryan! That big is amazingly crafted. Gee, you don't stop to impress.
So happy that your back on the datsun.
Hi folks. One thing I don't get is just putting a 1k primer on the inside of the metal work and possibly not cleaned down. It's porous. I was wondering if you did anything later on as surely that will be rusting again very soon? Im sure epoxy would be better but i use DG on primer or 2k raptor type materials. Great channel BTW 👍
Ryan, you never cease to amaze me with your skills. Your videos must be an inspiration to any budding sheet metal worker. Keep up the great work & brilliant videos.
New drinking game, Take a shot every time Ryan says Disaster, you will be wastede by the time the video is done 🙂
"Disas' is it? Disas-assh... ash... thaash a total lie... Lie, that is. Drink? Mmmmm... See me? Y' see me? I'm not. What? Hey, you, you, you're my bes' mate, you are. Bes- bestest mate... You and me, pal! Ish you an' me 'gainst the world!"
[With apologies to Rab C. Nesbitt.😁]
Incredible to see a flat piece of steel turned into compound curves by eye pure genius
Wow, always blown away by the work you do!
You must have the patience of a saint to make that panel, a true craftsman at work. 🏆
In the 1970's a plane full of Japanese engine and gearbox gears exploded over the sea- It was said to be raining Datsun Cogs... I'll get my coat................
Hammer, angle grinder, vice, chisel, some wooden blocks etc, and maybe some self-made tools using the first 3 and raw materials.
You learn a lot with that.
Beadroller, E-wheel and all that, that's for saving time, but if you're doing one restoration in your life, you don't need all that stuff.
2 or 3, get the cheapest ones, anything more than that = Get quality.
Nothing rusts like a ‘70’s Japanese car. I don’t know if it was the quality of the metal, the gauge, the coatings, the design of the bodies, or all of the above.
Been waiting for an update on the disaster Datsun for like forever 🎉
rust rust and more rust, hearts like lions to do this car ....
I would have to have made that panel in 3 sections top side and bottom , around the same amount of welding but mentally easier
Outstanding work, Ryan… Where’s your dad and the RS2000??
Ave been missing for a while but i'm back as Arnie would say. Hope you are on a big bonus for puttin that piece of tin back in some kind of order. I am old enuff to remember these when they first came out. Lovely piece of mechanical engineering. We are talking major miracles if you can get it close. Keep up the good work and thanks for vid. Later🙂
Outstanding work, Ryan coming along great at this rate the Datsun is going to be better than it left the factory, which isn't a bad thing loving the build keep up the amazing work and videos ❤
Amazing work!!! My favorite project
A great episode of YCR, nice to see work resume on the Disaster Datsum. What a real challenge this car has been?
Superb video! love seeing the detailed metal work with explanations
Damn, the things you do...respect!
Glad to see another episode on this!
Totally amazing 😮😮😮
Great job incredible to watch you make that from start to finish.
Brilliant video 👍👍👍👍👍
Your skill level at sheet metal fabrication never ceases to amaze me
Another good un Ryan. Nice to see the Datsun again. Probably been asked loads of times before, why do you wire wheel the welds before grinding them flat?
datsun living up to it's name
Hey Ryan,
It's good to see you displaying your awesome fabrication skills on the Disaster Datsun , after a long time working on this car. There seems to be so much rust in this car, it seems uneconomical to repair it! 😅😅
New drinking game: take a shot everytime he stays 'disaster'.
Great to see her... look after her.
Ryan, this job is just plain stunning! Greetings from South Africa!! ❤
Awesome vid mate. Love the old jdm stuff over the bmw’s. Porsche turned out mint too. Keep up the good work.
The Datsun of Theseus!
Not much left of the original car.
Hooray. Back on the Datsun
I am running out of superlatives to describe the work you do! 😊
Fantastic work, amazing skills, well done.
Actually, you're building an almost new car. I've seen all the videos so far. I would say you have probably already replaced 85%. Keep it up!!!
*EXTRAORDINARY TALENT & SKILLS!*
amazing work ryan on that challenging metal shaping it was a joy to watch, and where was rocco he is normally in every datsun video looking at the disaster in amazement, i just hope i live long enought to see the datsun finally finished and painted..
Amazing work, once again Ryan.
Pure magic!
You work so hard, that is insane
Perfect professional achievement
You have some skill with metal , very impressive workmanship buddy , watching from Scotland ❤️🏴
Incredible. Great watch
Finally. Thank you!
Impeccable craftmanship as usual and nice to hear some fresh tunes rather than that awful 'Daddy Cool' on repeat. 🙂
Majestic!
You know you're popular as a TH-camr when the bots are invasive.
Yep. Does this Channel make my bot look big?🤭 I wonder how long it'll be before AI develops fake TH-cam 'personalities' which will create AI channels of their own which will in turn attract the chat-bots and generate fake viewing stats which will encourage the AI creators to churn out even more fake content.
With any luck they'd enter an infinite feedback loop and all the bots would disappear up their own algorithms in a puff of virtual smoke.
@@EleanorPeterson I wouldn't be super if that's already happening.
Hello 👋 good buddy Ryan captain yorkshire good to see you 👍 very good video bro me and my brother really enjoyed 😉 👍 it
@@davidmckinney6577 bruh what
@@jwalster9412 I'm not a bot I know them he sent me a hoodie and a nameplate with my name on it
Keep seeing that little dusty Suzuki in the corner,,, but back working in the Z, is refreshing.
Your body work skills are impeccable, as is your music choices. They make the videos flow very smoothly. Thanks.
Very appropriate music choice. I would definitely "run away" if I had to face that rust every day.
Yeaaah have been waiting for this ❤
Fantastic as always 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🇬🇧
Nice, take a tip..stop working on your knees. get the car higher and sit on a roller chair or milk crate with a bit of board.
Nice to see a thick gauge of steel 12 gauge on the car?
Brilliant content. That’s why it’s called panel beating
Very interesting videos. The fact that you don't seem to have a vacuum cleaner is a bit surprising.
what great work alot of work and hours
Seriously impressive metal bashing there young man!
Thanks
Legend. Thank you so much for the support!!
My word that was a panel to make. Great video and music again- so relaxing- for me to watch, not you to do. Thank you.
Lovin the fabrication lovin the skill lovin the 260z.
But sorry guys i dont think i would want to buy a 260 in this state.
I have seen a lot of yr vids but I believe this is possibly the most visual storytelling of them all , bloody well done
The Datsun song is back.
În your hands the Word fisaster does not exist.
Respect maxim for what you doing.
You are a inspiration for me.
I thought from an earlier video that you had decided that the Disaster Datsun would not be put back on the road but would be a track car as all the modifications, especially the reconstruction of the chassis, would mean that it would be uneconomic to put it through all the procedures and inspections necessary to make it road legal. Have plans changed ? I think that as a track car a different standard of bodywork finish would be acceptable. Best wishes.
Better hurry up, boys! You're never gonna make the SEMA crunch at this rate 😹
Looks like the Z and the 914 should have been acid dipped to clear off everything from the metal - paint, bondo, rust, etc. Both of these cars look to be in such bad condition that I'm surprised that the owners want to spend the time and money to get the rust out. It appears that it would cost less to buy donor cars from here in the Southwest US without rust and ship them over to you. Great workmanship but these are relatively common cars to put this much effort into.
The Datsun is their own project paying out of their own pocket.
That's why it keeps getting put on hold. They've got to do the other work that earns their keep.
Disaster is an understatement, catastrophe, lost cause, cataclysmic, and horrendous, could also be added to the title description
Great work as usual but missing the father, uncle, son, nephew vibe hope all is well
New drinking game. Take a shot Tetleys every time he says disaster...
A lotta work mate,
I saw archaeologists dig up 800-year-old knight's armor from the damp earth that was less rusty than this wreck...
Why don't you get yourselves a sheet metal guillotine ? it would save a lot of time when grinding cutting big pieces of steel,(Or small- it works great on small as well) and anything from 20 guage on is so easy for a manual one.(I'm speaking from experience) I used to cut 18 guage sometimes, which was challenging but the blade kept it's edge even with the punishment I gave it. You will recoup the outlay in labour saved fairly quickly.
btw a four foot one (1200 mmish) is ample
Nice job 👌
You should do a weigh-in. Before and after new metal. LoL. Because at least a couple hundred pounds of rust is missing. Hahahaha
holy cow , what a ... distaster
Thats tough work
Nice work.
1 bitch of a panel ✨️ 👏
Back at last! 😊
Good video, wish you good health
Love the music you overlay . Who is it?
Nomyn - Nova & run away. Dont know the rest.
When i look at your work i think man i'm a friggin amateur.
When i see all of the bad patchwork i'm not so bad just have to work on my skills. 🤣
So just why don't we run away and find a place? Geez, this is stuck in my head now. 🙂
So at what point is a tube frame a feasible option, rather than tryign to fix whats left of a front subframe?
