    at 12:48 minutes, clearing out the gunk in that sensor. i did try to clear it our before without succes. this time i turned gently by hand with the pointy side of a 3mm drill in the first part of that sensors straight tube to clear it. than i took the backside of that same 3mm drill and twisted gently deeper and found some sort of a springy feeling. i think that's the actual membrane that i freed-up. i could feel the drill bouncing up and down. i think that's the thing you need to feel when trying to save this sensor.
    just thought i'd share this with all of you searching to fix this yourself 🙂
    after this i didn't even have to clear the fault codes at the start-up.

    Why not a bit of copper slip on the threads when installing new

      hi bro and thanks for the support! erm I mean it works with check engine codes etc and it dosnt go super deep. for the home mechanic it’s okay. I think it only covers check engine codes and not much else. I think in the future I’ll probably spend the £££ and get a proper Autel or something like that as it does everything.

      @richard_builds_it was told it does because it helps the dpf regen. Therefore controlling fuel. My van is not going well at all. Glow plugs look like dog shit lol

    We got check anti polution warning on our 2017 trafic and 2 garages have tried sorting it and it still cones back. So far around a grand in costs. Its back to the garage in a week

    • @xxwookey
      @xxwookey 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      This seems to be quite a common tale. Mine has just come on so I started researching last night. It covers a wide range of issues but it can be as simple as 'the temp sensor in the wing mirror is missing/damaged' and far too many garages will replace half your emissions control system (at great cost) before getting to that. This is all a new world to me, as I've just come from a pre-ECU entirely electromechanical car which either worked or it didn't - no computers to monitor things or argue with. Simpler, but much more polluting...

    • @hannesdobbelaere
      @hannesdobbelaere 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      check anti polution would come from a blocked carter ventilation (oil fumes separator?) that is blocked. at least that's what i'll be looking for. that's why the first sensor os getting dirty (with sucked up oil mist that comes thrue the intercooler first).
      you shoudl check the oil mist separator (don't know the correct english name) , then fluch out the intercooler, and that top sensor.
      i still have to check that rear sensor, i'm sure it's blocked too.

    Hi, After seeing how you tested the glowplugs for resistance it strikes me that you could measure the resistance with the plugs in situ. measuring from the electrode to the engine body, I haven't tried it myself but it might be possible if there is a good connection between engine body and thread. Your thoughts?
    Reply

    • @richard_builds_it
      @richard_builds_it  ปีที่แล้ว

      you absolutely can measure them in situ - just use a common earth or negative and hold the probe to the end of the glow plug and it yeilds the same result. I was changing all my glow plugs and for ease and the video it was easier to do it on the bench. My OBD reader also told me which ones were bad so I knew aswell.

    Great video, thanks for sharing! Awesome.
    Glow plugs replacement sort the check injection warning.
    I still have the anti-pollution warning
    How far did you get the brake cable to go into the thin metal tube? I cleaned the rubber hose elbow and got about 8 or 9 inches into the tube (after some back and forth cleaning)
    It won't go any further however. Does that suggest its blocked further down do you think?
    It could be the sensor of course...i just need to confirm which one to buy, but i want to make sure that tube is properly cleared first!
    Cheers

    • @richard_builds_it
      @richard_builds_it  ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah it was an odd one. the anti pollution (as you know from
      the video) was that stupid sensor. thankfully they are quite cheap. another tip to use is an old or new brake cable from a bike. you can shove it down the tube and use the other end on a drill bit and whizz it around for extra cleaning. but for me it was the rubber tube - it was absolutely caked with soot and old diesel gunk.
      i think the harder copper type tubes don’t block so easy but keep trying and get it as clean as possible. then clear the codes and hopefully it’s okay again!
      There’s another great channel called O Riley's Auots (ORileysAutos) they have great videos on these exact type of issues. Hope you get it sorted!!!

      Im enjoying the camper conversion!
      What's the sensor called , I think its the 173118 Febi?
      I tried the brake cable thing, got so far the cannot get further (about 8 inches)

      @@neildee9834 Just did a quick google and thats the same one i came up with!30/40 Pounds so not so bad! Guessing you’ve got a code reader on your van - best to check the codes otherwise we end up chasing the fault - but if cleaning it didnt work the next thing i was going to do was to just replace the sensor!

      hey bro I’ve had this issue before with my old E46 BMW! try spraying the glow plug with a decent penetrant fluid leaving it over night then trying again the following day after applying even more!. you can also try to torque it up a bit then loosen it a bit and repeat this and it sometimes breaks the seal. another method I’ve seen which I havnt used is heat on the glow plug like a torch and then using a freeze spray on the glow plug to try to shrink it ever so slightly then crack it open. good luck!

    • @adriandarke5393
      @adriandarke5393 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll try soaking it in release spray as there's not enough room for heat on the 2.2dci engine, it's pretty tight!. Got it to crack yesterday back and forth,but was like a dry wheel nut!.

    • @richard_builds_it
      @richard_builds_it  ปีที่แล้ว

      just been suppppper patient!! just spray spray and more spray. go and make a brew. then try again. the one in my video I think it was the forth one was also super hard to get out! but I just sent it and luckily was okay! good luck! 💪🏻💪🏻

    • @richard_builds_it
      @richard_builds_it  ปีที่แล้ว

      It sounds like a bearing or CV joint. Sounds like a low humming or grinding noise like a canal boat. Is worse when I go round a roundabout and all the weight is on the left hand front wheel. It’s certainly the left wheel area. Not sure if bearing, hub or CV.
