Step-by-Step guide on Full Camper Conversions.
Im converting my Vauxhall VIVARO 2015 LWB into a fully capable off grid camper.
Im tired of seeing really expensive conversions on the market for upwards of 50/60K (I know people have to get paid) so im trying to build my dream van on a budget of 15K all in (including the van!).
I’m going down the ‘do it once do it right’ kind of approach using all the top brands for the conversion.
Follow along with my as I do this first time conversion. I plan on the build being finished in November 2023 as im waiting on some long lead times for some bespoke furniture for the van but it will all be well worth it!
Ive never converted a van before - but lets see how hard it is! I’ll post tutorials on how i do all the major elements and can answer any questions which you may have.
Thanks for watching and consider subscribing for future updates!

I use PB Blaster it's expensive but I've found it to be brilliant. Thanks for a great video.
personally i dont think you need to use that much of the sound deadening matt -- its to heavy and expensive to cover the whole of the panels. You only need enough to stop the panel resonating . Why do you need 18mm ply for the floor --- what are you putting in there; 12 or 15mm is thick enough
everyone is like ‘iTs ToO hEaVy’ honestly the sound deading is like 10kgs tops 🤣🤣 and also it’s dead quiet on the road and at night so great for me. the flooring for the 18mm ply was literally a temp floor while I did the rest of the build. a 12mm black ply flooring from my furniture company was installed in the end.
Great video .
Great work very well done cant wait for the next video.
Hi when you attached the white fuel line into the black fuel line. How far does the white fuel line go into the black pipe. Also did you just clamp the exhaust on or did you do any additional cutting down at the top of the pipe. Thanks
just enough so that the jubille clips can hold down and make a decent seal between the two different pipe diameters. it technically wouldn’t matter how far you put it in - as the fuels only going one place! exhaust - yes - as per the instructions I basically cut my exhaust pipe a third from one end and inserted the muffler there. the ends were unchanged from factory.
@@richard_builds_itthank you
Great job buddy , I did one around 3 years ago , on a vauxhall vivaro short wheel base, I should have put a different configuration of the bed , situation, I put a rock and roll bed in , but not enough room , the next one will be a high cube long wheel base vehicle, any advice would be appreciated , keep the videos coming ,
im not a fan of the rock and roll beds but they do work great in some vans - my advice just check out other TH-cam channels as there’s so many variations that can look great! good luck with it 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Do you have a link for the swivels? Also which single seat did you use Mini, Audi, etc?
just google Kira Vans and they sell them! good price! I actually used a seat out of an older Vauxhall zafira or something but I did need to modify the fixing rails and use the correct strength bolts etc. the advantage of using a different seat is that it reclines and everything.
You used the 4 torx bolts to pull the new one back in, could you not have knocked it out with the bolts without taking the entire hub off or a big puller from the front? My bearings arrived today so guess what I'm doing this weekend! Thanks for doing the video.
yeah you could absolutley leave it in I reckon - just would be a real pain to knock it out in situ or indeed to try a puller. I have a puller but for the sake of undoing a couple more bolts just thought it was way easier to remove the whole assembly. try it your way and let me know!!
Does this work the same on renault captur diesel, both these lights are on in mine
if it’s the same engine then yes as the Renault traffic and vivaro are basically the same van
I wonder if they make tables that you can telescope down when you want to make the bed.
the table just pulls out if that’s what you mean. super easy screw base.
at 12:48 minutes, clearing out the gunk in that sensor. i did try to clear it our before without succes. this time i turned gently by hand with the pointy side of a 3mm drill in the first part of that sensors straight tube to clear it. than i took the backside of that same 3mm drill and twisted gently deeper and found some sort of a springy feeling. i think that's the actual membrane that i freed-up. i could feel the drill bouncing up and down. i think that's the thing you need to feel when trying to save this sensor. just thought i'd share this with all of you searching to fix this yourself 🙂 after this i didn't even have to clear the fault codes at the start-up.
good work and it works a treat!! I had to clear my codes tho haha
Really nice van - great choice on the ply guys
yeah I agree! looks great. functions great. can’t complain at all!!
I love that you considered the cab in your build and not just the back - re sound deadening, cleaning etc
it’s mega quiet when I’m sleeping like the cosiest ever. people be like ‘iTS tOO HeAvy’. Bro my ass weighs more than the sound deadening. 🤣🤣
Those swivels are stupid expensive, they're just two pieces of steel.
I know right! maybe because it has a crash test certificate - no idea just just need to test one lol. it was only about £200 so not super mad. but the doubles are twice that
That much sound deadening is way too much and prob doubled the weight..tidy though 👍
nah a box is like 10Kg max or the heavy stuff and the cloud looking insulation weighs jack sht. the massive win is that the van is DEAD quiet at night it’s actually amazing.
Enjoying a lot your channel.... Just one question: the length of the bed, please?
it think it’s 1.8m so a real decent length. plenty of space. it’s also 152cm wide which is wild.
Great helpful video (subbed) I’ve got a 2018 vivaro going to go ahead with the installation but I’m reading that you cannot use the T piece on this model apposed to previous. Do you have any info on this please? Thanks
which T price the one for the heater? do you mean for the fuel lines or something?
@@richard_builds_it yes mate for fuel line
No I didn’t use any T peices for the heater. The fuel line was direct into the fuel feeder - I had to remove the whole fuel tank and follower. The line from the fuel filler goes straight to the fuel pump which goes straight to the fuel line on the bottom of the heater.
Hi mate. Well done on conversion. Can I ask where you got furniture please ?? Cheers
yeah from a company called theplyguys.co.uk a Scottish based firm
What as that cabling you was using for the lights. I might do the same to mine. Thanks.
I used like a normal 2 core cable - but just check the diameters - it was what I would call ‘normal cable’
What puck lights do you buy. Also what was the wiring you had in there? Is it all wired up to a Leisure battery?
I just googled pick lights and bought some with a frosted face and they were about £60 all in. yeah it’s wired to my fuse board which is obviously to the battery. check my other electrical video out for the full install
Track rodend in my language lol
cheers literally changed loads and just couldn’t remember haha
Sweet job 🔥🤙
cheers bro really appreciate it!
@@richard_builds_it I’m in the process of buying a van so I appreciate your videos for help. 👌
Great video, great units, why ruin the look with scabby carpet on the walls, makes my skin crawl.
carpet looks pretty good I think - which I guess is why I did it 🤣 what would you do? scabby ill fitting wood panelling?
Top bloke! My van pinged up beginning of the week so I’ve got so diagnosing and fixing to do🤦♂️
hoping it goes well 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Did you make the units ?
I wish I was that good! 🤣🤣 all came from theplyguys.co.uk a small but very professional outfit just north of Glasgow. check thier website out
Nice job that mate 👌. I've just started converting a Lwb vivaro high top, and your vid has helped me out no end! 👍🏻🙌🏻
cheers bro no problems and best of luck with it!
@@richard_builds_it Cheers mate 👍🏻😉
We are modeling our T6.1 camper conversion off this video :) Only difference we will have is that we plan installing the Clayton Powerunit. The Ply Guys do awesome work. Great looking van.
that sounds amazing! I am currently in the Allgaü in southern Germany for a month and can confirm the ply guys pull out kitchen unit is so so useful! make sure to make a small ‘stop’ when you slide your bed units in it stops all the bed prices flying everywhere when you brake! good luck!!
It's a Track rod end made, thanks for the vid.
🤣🤣 thanks so much. Van is so much quieter now it’s unreal 💪🏻💪🏻
Just about to do a window in the sliding door on my Renault Trafic. What size U rubber did you need to trim around the cut area? Thanks
the rubber I used came in a standard length in the kit I ordered and it was about 300-400mm too long so was easy to just trim to length. does that answer your question? thanks. Rich
@@richard_builds_it thanks Rich. I was more asking about the profile of the rubber.
Great job mate, love your electrical panel, very neat, I was horrified at so many videos where the electrics looked like a bus load of ADHD kids have gone mental in a spaghetti factory, so much so I’ve decided to use a 3100 ah power station system with the charge controller and inverter built in, just the fuse box and hey presto, can be powered by alternator, solar and shore power, my ride will be a VW T4 LWB, when she comes back from the garage hopefully engine sorted, nasty bits welded, sealed, new suspension, hopefully a bare canvass ready for the build, thanks for your video picked up a couple of tips.
sweet sounds like a great build!! I figured making it neat makes it easier to sort any problems if they exist! so far no problems - currently on a month trip in Europe and no issues what so ever 🤣🤣 I am electricity heavy now running fridge freezer fans all the usual chargers but the solar is really earning its keep!!!
Sorry I know you’ve addressed this already but can you confirm that you’ve managed to put a Vauxhall Zafira seat into a Vauxhall Vivaro? I am going to be replacing my double for a single with swivel soon and trying to find the cheapest option. (My van is 2005) Thanks 👍
I used a Zafira seat yeah. although it did take some fettling to attack it to both the swivel base and also the seat base but that’s because my heater is under there and I needed the clearance. like I’ve always said do your own research - make sure to use the correct rated bolts for fixtures with the correct tensile strength.
May I ask how many meters of carpet lining did you use for the whole van ?
I used 15m of carpet from Coombes Valley Campers it came with 15 tins of adhesive aswell - so was really well priced all in.
That looks fantastic you done a great job I’m going to try that in my transit custom, really enjoyed the video thanks for sharing 👍
cheers I really appreciate it.
What ia that god awful music in the background? Just why? Otherwise a very informative video tjat has given me.some good ideas. Cheers
really sorry 🤣🤣 it’s awful I think I’ll upload again this weekend or next weekend as your not the first person to say that 🤣🤣 I’m still learning!
The “music” running in the background makes this unwatchable. Do you have a version without it? I really wanted to see how this was done. It looks like a very informative video otherwise.
sorry bro - still learning with the videos! Will try to upload one at the weekend for you!
Hi there , Do you have the measurements for the ceiling panel you installed, on another video you mentioned what a pain it was as you have to keep trimming , I’m currently converting my LWB and would be helpfull if could share aprox measurements to help save me time . Thanks
yeah sure thing let me check it tomorrow and get back to you. what ever you do don’t use 12mm ply 🤣🤣🤣 I reckon 6 would be okay depending on the thickness of the batons you use.
Thanks 👍
Right got them. It’s 245cm long by 151cm wide. but make sure to check the measurements. I bought a non standard sheer and had it cut to size but still had to trim it which was a pain. And I know I already mentioned but don’t use 12mm thick ply it’s far too heavy haha. Perhaps 6/9 but it’s your choice.
You are a legend , thanks for f the measurements, Agee I will probably go with the 6mm …I will let you know how I get on
As good as it gets ...and some
cheers really appreciate it 💪🏻💪🏻
Just watched your video, I know it's a vauxhall but are they renault engines as per the traffic, and can you use copper slip grease for future removal. Good video and good van build. Cheers
cheers bro just hope it helps people. got brakes and wheel bearings to do in the next few weeks so that video will be going up!
Super vid o and really helpful what zafira model did the set come from? Cheers Paul
thanks I think it was from a 2008/2010 one I’m not sure. but I still had to drill the spacer box section in any case! just make sure to use the 10.9 rated bolts and do your own research 💪🏻💪🏻
Thanks Richard, thinking of using some insignia seats
I mean, you’ve done a good job and it looks great but geez you’re a bigger fan of your own work than anyone else could be. 🙄.
thanks 🤣🤣 I think 😂 isn’t that the point?!
@@richard_builds_it it wasn’t a compliment but yet again your ego and inflated sense of self importance kicks in first🙄.
You okay hun? 🤣🤣
Merci pour cette vidéo. / Thank you for this video

haha cheers bro really appreciate it
What size socket are the glow plugs please
pretty sure they are 10mm deep socket.
Where I make my van me too how much it cost you, you can make my van how much is for Maick? My van is no traffic Ronald.???
Van was £7.5K Build cost was £9k or so. Broken down as follows: Electronics: 2.5k Materials/wood: £500 Insulation and sound deadning: 1000 Furniture: 4K Swivel base: £250 Heater: £500
That was the most dodo mat I have seen used on a van! But if a jobs worth doing!
haha yeah for sure bro. it’s mega quiet now. I got the kit off CommbevalleyCampers and that’s what they sent me so that’s what I used 🤣🤣
Your talent has saved you minimum £9000 , well done mate
well I really appreciate that bro. It works a dream to be honest - only thing I’ve changed since building it was some hooks and I soldered the LEDs because the connectors are terrible.
Any chance you could measure up those drawers? I was eyeing up buying this, but when I measured up in the van I thought the full length drawers would be tiny, but in the videos I've seen they look pretty decent width wise. Really nice set up!
if you head to theplyguys Website (Google them) they have allllll the dimensions listed there. my bed set was called ‘Assynt’ I believe. they have everything you need.
You didn't say what you did with the sensor wires, otherwise you will have a panel warning light come on. The single seat swivels easier and you have easy access to the rear, but that double seat is very useful. But good job...by the way you won't die, but I get the point.
the passenger seat (in my van) didn’t have any wires what so ever! so absolute win! every time I removed the driver seat I was mega careful not to turn the engine on and throw a code. wouldn’t matter anyway as I have a code reader - but yeah no wires for the passenger side!!
@@richard_builds_it What year is your van?
2015 so the new shape 💪🏻
@@richard_builds_it Mine is an 08, so I don't know, they must be doing it some other way. Our double seat is the dog's bed.
Hi really like your van , lovely, where did you get the fabric for the van walls
cheers bro appreciate it - got all the carpeting and insulation from Combe Valley Campers. great shop. just google them and they will come up. also they do amazing TH-cam videos aswell it’s where I learnt to do everything in my van!
@@richard_builds_it thanks for the reply, I will check them out , just going to start a project, in an few weeks so looking for some ideas Cheers
Excelent Video, thanks for posting, Very confidence inspiring :) Do you rate the Foxwell NT301 ???
hi bro and thanks for the support! erm I mean it works with check engine codes etc and it dosnt go super deep. for the home mechanic it’s okay. I think it only covers check engine codes and not much else. I think in the future I’ll probably spend the £££ and get a proper Autel or something like that as it does everything.
