22:05 I LOVE that you said this. Back when my son was about six or seven, he was being REALLY disobedient one day and I was trying to get him into the car during a downpour. As this was happening, a woman approached us, addressed my son directly (ignoring me) and said; "Is this man your father?" My son froze and nodded. He then got into the car with no further fuss. I actually showed this woman my driver's license to prove that I was a legitimate/above-board person and thanked her so much for what she had done. Hear, hear; more people like this, please!
Personally I'd knock a person out for implying that bullshit. My 6 year old loves giving me such a hard time when it comes to getting back into the car that many time I have to pick him up kicking and screaming and put em in the car I'm so aggravated by that point that if some stranger approached and asked my son something like that would result in them feeling my wrath lol.
Better to be safe than sorry, good on that woman for checking and good on you for not getting upset. Something similar happened with my mom and brother (well, half brother.) When he was around 7, our dad was picking him up from his mom and had brought my mom along. They met in a park I think. My mom saw my brother's mom talking to him, but she had never met her so she didn't know it was his mom, so she came up and asked my brother if he was okay. His mom appreciated that she did that so much. My mom said she'll always remember exactly what his mom said, "I know he'll be safe with you, I trust you. You proved you'll protect him even though he isn't your own"
Winter Lynn if you show your wrath at someone for just trying to check on the wellbeing of your child and make sure they aren’t in a kidnapping situation maybe you should work on controlling your anger lol
@@pig_rabbit6944 Wow, if I were your mom I would've been bawling. That's a really powerful moment of trust between two people who both love and want to care for a child.
It just shows they knew they were doing something inappropriate and overcompensated with their “conversation,” which only made their intent more obvious.
Maybe not what you're asking, but i think you'd find the movie/book "Room" starring Brie Larson and Jacob Trembley interesting. It's told from the perspective of a child born in captivity. So it's not Jaycee's daughters POV but might be worth watching
The scariest part of this whole story is the fact that she was found and saved by pure luck. If those two police officers haven't noticed something weird she would probably still live with those two pscyhos. She would have never run away
She should've told the boy neighbour to tell the police she was kidnapped and her name. It's so awful how these sickos brainwash these kids. It's shows they know exactly what they are doing. I've read time and time again captive people had chances to escape for years before but were too terrified. It breaks my heart how disempowered they are when they have all the power, just one word, one policeman turning up, and they are jailed forever. If ever this happens to anyone, god forbid, you tell anyone and everyone what is happening, even if you just hand out a note to them silently. Also, police have said that 9 out of 10 times a captor will let a child go if they scream and holler at the time. I know that doesn't apply to this poor girl as she was tasered. So extreme, so glad she survived. Wishing her and her daughters all the best ♥
Right? When I heard that the probation officer saw her in the house and didn’t do anything?! When he wasn’t supposed to be around children.... wtf. Thank god that eventually they did work.
The disgusting Part is they let him go after his first offense. If they didn't let him out. This never would have happened. The justice system really let her down

I have always thought that Nancy was the WORST one!Helping your husband film children in the park, helping him to kidnap a little girl and keep her locked up on your property, watching and abetting the sexual abuse and then getting jealous of the girl in captivity because SHE has mothered your husbands offspring instead of you...?! This woman is beyond sick!
Na, still the man is the worst one. We've got to stop placing the worst criticism on woman when the man in the situation is equally bad or worse. That's patriarchy
Elizabeth Smart had a lot of hate toward her female captor (who is now out of prison) for these reasons. She helped him, and then was jealous and made life even worse for Elisabeth
@@nicolenbbw7947 I think that's what makes her so gross she helps kidnap this girl then gets pissed when her man uses her as a toy and gets her pregnant... I really dont wanna know what she thought was going to happen.
I started crying when you said that both her and her mother looked at the moon and thought of each other when they were apart. Love is the most beautiful thing we do and it defies so much. That level of connection is incredible.
@hj5520 Yeah, Jaycee is a decade older than me. I was just a baby when she was kidnapped. But after reading her book, I realized her and I have a lot in common. When I was 11, I was a happy and sometimes shy kid. I was close with my parents and few close friends. I was also on the verge of graduating 5th grade and entering middle school.
When you become a mother, suddenly your biggest fear is that something bad will happen to your child. I'd rather someone take me than someone take one of my kids.
It makes me so mad when people continuously blame the victim for not doing anything. No one but the victims could possibly understand what its like to be in a situation like this. I'm so happy she was finally able to get out of that and live a fulfilling life💖
I got chills at the part about her mom and the moon. And I feel so terrible for her father who saw it happen and tried to save her. That must have haunted him forever.
the parole officers? it honestly is not their fault. she did not give any indication of being in distress and she looked different. they also weren't expecting her to be there, its very sad and upsetting that they didnt notice it was Jaycee but it is not their fault

If I was ever kidnapped, the LAST thing I would want would be a cat or a dog or some other kind of animal with me because I would be so terrified that the abductor would hurt that innocent little animal.
I was thinking the same thing, but she probably lost all hope by that point. She was raped in the shower the first day she was abducted and didn’t even know what sex was. I would’ve thought the worst was yet to come too. I think in hind-sight the cat signified some sort of hope for her, which could’ve been the reason why she’s alive today. She was “content”, for lack of a better word, with the fast food and cats, which helped her cope and remain calm. It’s so crazy they trusted her so much to let her roam around the house with PO coming. I’m so happy she’s alive and well.
This girl’s childhood was ripped from her. I feel so terrible for her and her family as they never got to see her grow up. Sending love to Jaycee and her family. ❤️
this reminds me of elizabeth smart. the kidnapping, tragic events, how so many opportunities had come where they could be saved but couldn’t, the captors are both husband and wife, the husband being so into this ‘religion’ stuff like he’s the chosen one, the wife getting jealous and all that stuff 😭
So the man got 400+ years and the wife only got 36-life?? How is she not as guilty as him? She was there for the kidnapping and for the 18 years Jaycee was kept. That's insane. I can't think of any reason (even pleading guilty but she did it because she was forced by her husband) that would hold up and mean that she didn't deserve a couple hundred years herself. Crazy.
wonderfullyme Yeah there were components to it/ crimes that only he committed, I just think her sentence should be guaranteed life with no possibility of parole because of how involved she was. I wonder what she would have done (would she have let Jaycee and the daughters go) if he had died suddenly?
katiedireland she could have let them go when he went back to prison and sought help “disappearing” before he came back or ensure the cops could lock him away for life. She was as guilty as him, the pretending she was filming him whilst filming children so he could “browse” and “window shop” for later she knew VERY WELL he was looking for a child to take. I can tell you now that I LOVE my husband, he’s my life! But if I had even an inkling he was into this or said he was... I’d maybe still love him, you can’t just turn off your heart! but I would NOT ignore it, I would not help him with his desires, I would instead be calling the cops. She is quite obviously as sick as he is, I do not doubt that she watched him abuse Jaycee, she should definitely just got straight forward life. I only hope that the gals in prison know what she did to be there, let her experience some good ole prison karma! I also hope he has been shared around the prison...
I was actually in the Jaycee Dugard reenactment and played her oldest daughter! It was on the Investigation Discovery channel, called Wicked Attraction. It's so cool to have so many people interested in the case because I feel somewhat connected, being able to help share her story

These things are serious and people need to remember that we have ONE life, live it right, and don’t take your family or friends for granted because they take a serious role in your life. God bless

So despicable to think of all the years that were stolen from this poor girl - middle school, high school, friendships/relationships, all the time to grow and mature… it’s truly irreparable. I hope she has found nothing but peace in her years since freedom (:
So I went to school with Jaycee in South Lake Tahoe and remember when it happened. I was terrified for her. Eventually my family moved to the bay area. When Jaycee was found she was in a house 15 miles away from where I live!! Such a crazy story that hits home. So glad she was found
Can you make a video about the 43 students who went missing in Mexico? The media doesn’t really talk about it and a lot of people don’t really know what happened
The system FAILED Jaycee. They should all be held accountable and be ashamed of themselves. I hope with everything in my heart that we get to see the day when this never happens again. Thank you, Kendall, for approaching this story with tender love and care. May Jaycee have a whole, incredible life, as well as all of her family and daughters. They certainly have a lot to make up for ❤
I wish we could know more about her daughters. I figure they dont talk much about them to protect the kids but I can't imagine how they view the world having grown up in such a terrible situation.
It's not Stockholm syndrome, it's a result of emotional abuse. I wish they incarcerated police officers for willful negligence like this. I think they should be held a lot more culpable than the rest of us because literal lives depend on them. What an incredibly courageous, strong woman Jaycee is.
Why are there even police if they're not gonna handle things the way they should? Listening to the reports people made and they do NOTHING really hits a nerve. Smh this poor girl so glad she came home safe!
I watched her Netflix documentary with my boyfriend and it was the first time he ever saw me cry, I'm happy she was found but I'm horrified about her conditions ☹️
I'm just wondering- if the girls thought that their mother was their sister, they musn't have known that she was kidnapped right? My question is, how did they react when they realised that their real mother was captive and that she was their mother?
I can’t imagine what was going though their heads when they found that out. In the show Andy Mack, she learns that the person she thought was her sister was actually her mother and she tries to come to terms with that.
In the book it says that when the police let her sleep in a hotel as she was going to meet her mom the next day, she explained to the girls everything that happened and that they were "surprisingly open to all that i said and didnt really seem surprised to hear any of it".
It’s crazy how in the interview at the end, on the bottom of the screen you can see the news about the Ariel Castro case and how the women were finally freed
if you, or a loved one is kidnapped, always remember, you are still on the same earth, you still look up at the same sky, you are still in their hearts. gone, but not forgotten.
The moment you said she called her mom and you couldn't imagine how her mom felt. I cried. I cried so hard. I am a mom of 2 beautiful girls one is currently 11 and I just imagined finding my lost daughter after 18 years and I just broke down crying. I'm so grateful they were reunited. She not only missed out on her daughters childhood but also most of her grandkids childhood.
It must be so horrible for the parents, imagine coming home from work and not knowing where your daughter is. The bit where the mother was in her room really upset me as well. Poor Parents and Jaycee💔
I'm not religious, but god bless this girl. It really puts life in to perspective sometimes, I really hope only happy days follow her now, the fact that she can lean on her children is a miracle. I hope those human atrocities get what they deserve in prison, the least they deserve anyway.
God is real I assure you. "The path to Heaven is narrow and few enter through it. The path to Hell is wide and many enter through it." I believe in God and I think you should look into joining a church. If there is even the smallest chance in your mind (In my mind there is no doubt) that Heaven is real wouldn't you want to do everything you could to get there. Because if Heaven is real so is Hell. I'm sorry to preach all this to you but if there is even the smallest chance it could get you into the church I'm going to spread the word.
The video that was taken while he was playing the guitar was sooo fucking sick i was like what the actual fuck, so sad. So happy shes finally home safe
I totally believe she was too scared to use the technology to contact anyone. When I was a teen i got a computer in my room. My parents told me they could see everything I was doing(you know to stop me from talking to internet boys or sending 'pictures' I suspect) when in fact they couldn't. But I so believed they could that once when my computer got a porn pop up I thought I was going to get in trouble. So I can imagine what that level of mental control could do to a young child
I remember being 10 years old and seeing the headlines. This was the first case that made me realize just how dangerous the world can be. Over a decade later, and it has stuck with me this whole time. Jaycee is so strong. She deserves to live the rest of her life happy and free.
It’s amazing how moms just know. So many of these situations, the moms have a feeling they’re gone forever, or with Jaycee, she never gave up hope and she was right.
Filming those children playing 🤮 can you imagine if you are a parent watching all this info coming out, see that video *AND* realize that was their child being recorded!! 🤯
Disgusting pedo's, the reason nobody can film at kids parks anymore. I hate adults who prey on kids. Had a couple brushes with them myself as a kid. Evil. Pure evil.
You should do the three women found in a Cleveland Ohio home that were held for 10 yrs. One birthed his child and they were later rescued. All went to school with his daughter in Jr. Highschool.
I read and watched that case and the sad part is their parents were living near them like in the same neighborhood and they never realized their children were there one mom went to go to a person who tells the future and she asked is my daughter still alive? And the lady told her no so she died thinking her daughter was dead

22:05 I LOVE that you said this. Back when my son was about six or seven, he was being REALLY disobedient one day and I was trying to get him into the car during a downpour. As this was happening, a woman approached us, addressed my son directly (ignoring me) and said; "Is this man your father?"
My son froze and nodded. He then got into the car with no further fuss.
I actually showed this woman my driver's license to prove that I was a legitimate/above-board person and thanked her so much for what she had done.
Hear, hear; more people like this, please!
Good for her for making sure!

The scariest part of this whole story is the fact that she was found and saved by pure luck. If those two police officers haven't noticed something weird she would probably still live with those two pscyhos. She would have never run away
I know, it’s so scary. Especially thinking how many people haven’t been found yet but could have been
She should've told the boy neighbour to tell the police she was kidnapped and her name.

Yeah, Jaycee is a decade older than me. I was just a baby when she was kidnapped. But after reading her book, I realized her and I have a lot in common. Crazy.
I agree I thought that was so strange!
Maybe the sexual component is considered for his charges?
wonderfullyme Yeah there were components to it/ crimes that only he committed, I just think her sentence should be guaranteed life with no possibility of parole because of how involved she was. katiedireland amen !!! She did the same damn thing! Sat there and watched and recorded bs! Smh
katiedireland she could have let them go when he went back to prison and sought help “disappearing” before he came back or ensure the cops could lock him away for life.

It's not Stockholm syndrome, it's a result of emotional abuse. I wish they incarcerated police officers for willful negligence like this. I think they should be held a lot more culpable than the rest of us because literal lives depend on them. What an incredibly courageous, strong woman Jaycee is.
They don't incarcerate them for murder so it's unlikely.

I can’t imagine what was going though their heads when they found that out.
In the show Andy Mack, she learns that the person she thought was her sister was actually her mother and she tries to come to terms with that.
