You get good feedback not because you do dodgy repairs, you do cost effective ones with what you have got, and teach us about the circuits in the process. You simplify some very complex circuits. @@unforgotenpromises I hate those motherboards. Small, thin, with a small D/C jack power supply port and built-in (can't remove) RAM memory and CPU. The built-in CPU always gets hot. If I remember correctly, there was something on a few asus modles like this that you can try. I'm assuming the problem is no power (won't turn on) or no display. You can try grounding the screw holes to the top chassis better. Around the screw holes is some light metal and if you notice where the TOP keyboard cover chassis touches the screw holes, it's suppose to provide some grounding for the whole unit. I used some tin foil pieces around each screw hole and then put it back together (applying some pressure) and I was surprised to see it come on. These boards are so cheap and sensitive to faults.

Hi people, let me try to explain how this repairman works. This is old (Russian, Romanian, Serbian,Polish, Slovak....) repair school method. In my country repairing like this was wide spread. It's easy to troubleshoot card faults and swap cards and there you go. In poor countries like Yugoslavia back in the days this was only method for repairing electronics, mostly repairman did not had schematics, they had to improvise and do some tricks to repair, 99% success. Back in the days there were not laptops but most electronics was imported and schematics was hard to find. So anyone that have bad opinion I challenge you to do what he is doing without schematics and also he is teaching how to find other way to repair. Swapping elements is easy try to be innovative like him. GOOD WORK...

You sir are doing a great job talking your precious time to teach people what you can for free. I can understand the guys who post negative comments as they are the engineers the stiff upper lip kind who get offended if everything is not porn and proper. They dont understand that you can't spend time in doing research when on a job as it is not priority. In fact there could be businesses who would not let someone do what you are doing, teaching for free. The priority here is to get it up and running and ensure it doesn't come back after a short time as then it'll be another repair and for free. You stiffs will be surprised to know that people are doing these repairs without even knowing what these parts are or do. In these videos our instructor does have knowledge but not the time to go into the kitty gritties and he never claims this is is how it is supposed to be done. He clearly says it is how he does it because it works for him and you can follow proper procedure and do it in an hour, I can't afford to do that. Anyone who wants to follow him is doing it by his or her own free will, why do you guys have issues here. The op never claimed to be making people engineers he shows them how to repair stuff the ones who want to learn it all can go to a different channel or to college for a Graduate's Degree in Engineering.

Happy Birthday! I was able to find a shorted capacitor on the motherboard using your ideas. I put together a PWM power supply and turned up the amps where the short was and the capacitor got warm, so I unsoldered it now 3.3 volts, 10 volts, and 5 volts work. It is an eMachine M6810 now to remember how to put everything back! Thanks. Here in USA they would tell you the motherboard is bad, buy a new PC.

Clean chip area, pre-tin your pads, use quality flux before soldering new chip and it will solder like butter. I appreciate your time and knowledge you share with us, but you should consider using a fumes extractor take care of your health! Thanks for sharing.

I Used to own a computer shop and one of the things i noticed was you could think you have the right charger plugged in. You then try another one and it works !!

Sorin, great video and now i am a genius :-) I think the water damage caused a short at the fan connector, fryed the 5v chip which in turn burned the super I/O.....just my opinion. Love the videos...please never stop your online school...thanks, Ray

Before replacing the "start up chip" I always check PGOOD signal besides 3,3V power rail. A chip who doesn't start up the board is doing its job if PGOOD signal is not present.

Thank you Sorin for showing us this. I admire your ability, but what you call easy and child's play I find problematic. I don't have the hot air, or proper tools for the work. I do have a good multimeter and a cheap benchtop power supply, but it all seems to work well. I have a gas powered solder set with flame, but I am scared to use it because I dont know how close to bring the flame, and there is NO heat control other than that. I have a hobby solder station with the iron only on it, and that does most jobs. So my Acer Travelmate 7720G died on me after 10 years of faithful service. I like the laptop. I feel it is good quality, and it has many of the things that are missing from modern laptops. It means I can get into jobs with older hardware like PCMCIA slot interfaces or SD card or even SIM Card work. It has lots of working USB ports too, and I make sure I dont overload them. Anyhow, the little plug which goes onto the logic controller at the bottom of the screen broke off, with wires bending back and forth open and close the lid so many times. When I got the plug out, it disintegrated in my hand, making it useless. I tried many times to source a new plug, but it appears it was an OEM part with specific pin spaces and holes for Acer, and I couldnt get it. I tracked down that whole wiring harness that goes behind the screen, and replaced it, but I didn't know to remove the battery first. Too late I saw one of your videos telling us to do that first... So the motherboard is blown. Using only my multimeter, I have found a shorted MOSFET on the board. My board is covered in salt residue, as I live near the beach, so I am waiting for some PCA to arrive so I can clean it all first... then I think I will tackle the soldering. I have rosin coming, but I have a solder flux pen here which works well on larger solder jobs. Anyhow, I am using your videos as a guide, and I have learned a lot about MOSFETS from watching Barevids... That guy is sick... he recommends replacing a whole bank if only one is faulty, and make sure you have matching batch numbers, because if they are different batches, they dont play well in the team. For the trivial cost of the power Fets, I think I will order a bunch, and have them here for the repair when everything else arrives.. As much as I enjoy seeing you solder a piece of wire across and shorting it, it increases the work load on the remaining chips, and it might not be so good for them. Anyway, it is MY laptop, and like all of my things, I want to look after it so I can continue using it for a long time. Thank you for teaching me so much.

Sorin I have a theory. Water damage on fan connector shorted 5v rail and caused damage to that chip and in the process fan die too. Thanks for this awesome video

But he glues when he should epoxy. He hot glues broken hinges. He doesn't have very common parts on hand and does repairs that won't last 6 months.
