      at 5:50 you mention about how many sets you can connect - im confused im new to audio so i would assume you mean you can connect 8 sets of mics to that transmitter but im going to say thats wrong so what do you mean you can connect 8 sets of what?

      Hey Max, how are you? Thank you for reviews, I really like them.
      Years ago, I saw the review you did with Rode and Takstar. I got the Takstar and I'm still happy with it. Now, I'd like to have one wireless that I can use with my Sony A7III, but that anyone would do it, so my main problem is to be able to use one wireless/lapel with my Android smartphone and my Osmo Mobile 3. I'd love to have some cheap alternative, but great sound like the Takstar. Do you have any suggestion? Please....
      I know I would be able to do this with the Saramonic because I checked, but the sound is not as good as the mic you are using to record this review, I actually didn't like because it's a bit muffuled, is not as clear sa the rode you are using.
      Thanks and have a great day.

    Great video and comparison dude! After to bought the rode wireless go, I knew about the saramonic blink 500 and I thought: "DMN!!!! 2 transmitters at the same time!!" BUT, after to watch this video, I still prefer my rode. BTW, I liked the sound of the blink500 with it lav.

    I always appreciate practical reviews like this. For people mulling over the feature of two transmitters, look into the Sennheiser XSW-D units which are in this category. They don't blend transmitters. What they do is allow you to switch from receiving (on a single mono channel) from transmitter A to transmitter B with control on the receiver. Also you can mute the unused transmitter, back and forth. I would have found that absolutely a problem solver when I encountered not one but two guest speakers going back and forth to the lectern; plus chatting to people when they were off camera.

    • @Matthew_Raymond
      @Matthew_Raymond 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      An advantage of the Sennheiser XSW-D system is that you can mix and match input types like XLR and 3.5mm TRS on BOTH the receiver and transmitter. For instance, it you’re using a recorder with XLR inputs, you just buy the XLR receiver. Got an XLR lavalier? Use the XLR transmitter.

    I listened with headphones. Indoors, the Blink had a lot of low frequency bump and pop noise. The Rode must have a low frequency rolloff, it didn't have that problem.

      There's definitely a high pass on the Rode, treble is a little better on the Saramonic (on studio monitors), Both sound very similar but pretty unimpressive for the money, probably too much ADC compression in the transmitters.

    Nice job highlighting the pros and cons. And there definitely are pros and cons. No gain change while recording, less informative indicators on device, a bit more bulk vs. eyepiece (if you use it), ... these are not trivial. But the ability to receive two mics on one receiver is a big deal, and the 2 included mics is a nice bonus.

    Glad I bought the Rode. From my perspective, sometimes less in-box means they focussed on the key elements and including all other accessories would increase the price too much for some. I used the Rode Wireless Go last week for the first time with talking heads. I had but didn't use the Lav, and the wireless by itself worked great. It was less intrusiv (esp. for non-actors), easier than wiring someone up and convenient so much so that folks kept walking off with them by accident :)

    Nice job on your comparison vid. What I have noticed is that the cheaper units sound just as good as the Rode with similar features, but the Rode's big advantage is it's superior recording distance. For most people that's a non-issue because they're never going to be utilizing that. For those that need it, the Rode is the only choice. I've got a system by Kinglucky, which was only $42 and it works as good as the Rode except for distance.

    The blended audio will be a deal breaker for any professional but I can see newbies liking that feature. Obviously at this quality and price point that is who these mics are for. I was surprised how dull both mics sounded in comparison to you regular mic. Your regular mic has a lot of reflected sound, probably from your desk. It might suit you to have a more parallel angle of that mic to your desk. It would also be beneficial to know that mic setup is for comparison sake.

    The audio from the Rode is in general better out of the box but that is probably because there is a baked-in EQ.. The main difference is a 48db per octave Low Cut at 70hz and a Bass Shelf of -3db at 100hz. So if you don't mind doing some EQing and maybe a slight de-noise, the Saramonic is not a bad option.

Now I see that one is the stereo 3 contacts and the other has a 4 contact plug for a smart phone. That my explain the audio issue I had with my first camera test where I was getting no audio. I had used that same cable on my portable audio recorder and it had worked. The range is rated at 163 feet so I will be curious to see what I end up getting out of this system. 50 should be good for most things I would do anyway.

    Thanks for doing the comparison. I still love my Audio Technica System 10 transmitter and receiver set up. I can move around crowds in any direction with no drop outs. Sound quality is much nicer with 20 hz - 20 khz range not only in lav mic but in transmitter at 48 khz sample rate. Punchy and round low end bass with no mid range mud. For voice a 4-5 db shelf boost around 1.7 khz on an eq and it dials in really nice. However, really digging the size of these new set ups , just wish they didn't drop out so easily.

Good to note that even the rode requires line of site serviceability. Using Sennheiser's I find that the transmitter and receiver can be sometimes floors away from each other and I've literally filmed buildings away for effect zooming out away from the sound source. Neither of these would make it for those applications.

      @@B-Moye That's what I do with my Wireless GOs and/or on-camera mic. The problem with mixing both channels means that if unwanted sound is picked up by one mic, it's combined with the other. I see a lot of comments complaining about the mixed audio... it’s a valid complain but max mentions in the video you can buy a single rx/rx set with lav for $10 less than the single rode go. It’s still cheaper and comes with lavs. You don’t need the burned of 2tx/1rx (although that’s arguably cheaper considering a single tx is $99 on its own) As for the mixing comment. You’re right you can’t mix on the fly but each transmitter has its own gain setting so conceivably you could balance levels before recording. It’s not optimal but still.... I just don’t get why it’s a deal breaker and people completely turn their back on this solution because the reviewed configuration isn’t correct

    I've seen Blink tests that exceeded 50ft reach, maybe something to do using 2 different wifi connections at the same time? In all fairness you should redo the test separately on each..

    • @JimboSkinner
      @JimboSkinner 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the Blink is fragile around other WiFi sources you definitely don’t want it. This was a great way to test it... I was actually going to get the Blink until the 50ft drop off test, that would be a disaster on a show

    • @MaksimYuryev
      @MaksimYuryev  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That definitely could be the case but I was outside with only one other close WiFi, and the Rode performed just as good as it does by itself. With that said if 50ft is what you can get reliably with other WiFi interference that is good to know because most places have lots of WiFi, and even then for most people that is plenty of usable range. I personally wouldn’t push the rode further anyways. If you need range I would highly recommend a more serious system that has external antennas and more transmission level like the Diety connect.

    I have a Rode Wireless go and used it outside. As soon as I turned around, away from the receiver, the signal was gone, even at only 20-30 meters and left the footage unusable. Indoors I had no problems with it when turning around.

    • @ramonbannister9498
      @ramonbannister9498 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that's the major problem w/ the Rode. It's a good quality mic, but when I use it w/ a client or my own videos I have to make sure I connect a lav and put the transmitter on the person's waist on the side. You can't even put it in the person's pocket or you risk the audio cutting out on you.

    "Blending" the two audio tracks kills it for me with the Blink 500. That means that the Blink can only be used by amateurs. Why couldn't Blink at least put the audio on a stereo signal with one mic panned fully left and the other fully right? That way you can isolate each track as needed because while mixing the two tracks, you cannot avoid double background noise when only one is speaking. You had my hopes up, but mixing the audio tracks makes Blink not practical.

    • @davidgild3779
      @davidgild3779 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      TRRS only has one mono channel. Cameras and phones with this type of input can only record a single mono channel. That makes what you are wanting to do impossible (2 channel recording) but it also makes the Saramonic dual transmitter concept kind of stupid!

    Does the gain setting control the input gain or the output gain?
    If it's the input gain, you can use it to change the microphone's sensitivity, to avoid clipping if the person you record has a loud voice (as actors often do), or is even shouting or singing.
    If it is only controlling the output gain (like it is on the Rode Gos), the input stage will definitely clip with a loud person, and lowering the output gain won't fix this, because now you will only lower your already clipped signal.

    Thank you for the video. I bought a Rode Wireless Go and had a straight line of site at 3 feet. I recorded video for about 4 hours and had the Rode Wireless Go drop out about a dozen times. Some of the parts where it dropped out I had to go back and re-record those sections, because they were my only good takes. I returned the Go immediately and read that others had the same issue. I know you did your test at 150' or what ever it was, but having the audio drop out at 3 feet is unacceptable. I did purchase a Blink 500 and it may or may not have the same issue? Only time will tell. I also bought the Saramonic shotgun mic. Thanks again for the video.

      @OfficeofthePacific 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@praewpraikongkiatkrai5851 The Blink 500 B1 was good. I ended up returning it too. Unfortunately I found out later that my issues were due to a faulty mic adapter input. I plan on trying the Rode Wireless Go again, one I fix my camera. What I did not like about the Blink 500 B1 compared to the Rode. Blink is more bulky... it has not meter... the Rode sounds slightly better by lets say 15%. I like the Blink includes a Lav and that is a plus. I hope that helps.

I'm looking for a wireless mic to use at church but often we have 2 persons speaking (presenter & translator) so a 2 receiver system like the Blink 500 can maybe work...
