The original way, it is pronounced ‘ Ookulele ‘ But, a lot of people call it ‘ Ukulele ‘ which is how it is spelt. So ‘ Ookulele ‘ the “right” way

I'm sure it took a bit of time to find each video of each review and also the product page to make so many links for everyone to have. Thank you so much for doing that. And for making this video. I suddenly have been so intrigued with Ukulele lately and have been unsure what kind to get to start with. I appreciate videos like this, as well as so many others.

Thanks so much for this! The Enya concert sounds fabulous. I just got one of the round soprano Enya's and LOVE it! Concert is my go-to size, though, so after seeing your review ... well, of course I'm going to have to get one! Thanks, dear. :)

These are very practical videos. I appreciate that even though you're a pro music teacher your recommendations are all within the "budget" range. Very practical.
I just bought the LKP-C Concert Lanikai, used, equivalent to your Tenor Lanikai. I'm actually disappointed by the sound of it and I noticed it's not used by many people (it's out of production). I wonder if the quality of the tenor was just better or whether I'm missing something about the sound quality. The strings are kind of cheap-feeling nylon strings on my Lanikai concert, maybe I could switch them out and get a better sound.

so in november 2018 i purchased my soprano mahalo uke and then purchased a diy pineapple uke of aliexpress. (it sounds good but it falls out of time in the first 10-15 mins of playing) and today i purchased my beaver creek concert uke! i love all off my ukes, but i want to learn guitar. after watching your video i am hoping to be able to learn baritone ukulele before i try to learn more guitar, i don’t really like the sound of guitar but i love the sound of ukes! thank you so much, you really helped me!❤️

I have an Oscar Schmidt baritone uke and I love it so much! The resonance and action are amazing, especially compared to the cheapo thing I was playing on before. Your tenor looks stunning. I almost got a Luna tenor last year but I chickened out. I wanted to try more options. So I got the Makala "sharkele" soprano, because it's cute. Someday a tenor...someday...

If Lanikai is your favorite, you've never played a Kamaka or... Koaloha for that matter. I'm trying to sell my Lanikai NKT because I hardly ever pick it up. My Kamaka is my go to uke. Kamaka has been in my family for 48 years. Hard, old koa wood plays like,...like eargasm.

Great video! I bought a beautiful Fender acoustic guitar, but the multiple steel strings & size is too overwhelming for me as a beginner. I thought the ukulele would be an easier instrument to play first & then transition back to the guitar later on. Thanks for confirming it as a good idea in your video. I can't wait to buy the pretty black floral Enya uke someday. 😻Thank you for your fun 30 day beginner ukulele series!

I have a Kala pineapple. I went into the music shop and tried about 10. Poor man, I made him tune them all! The pineapple was the one that spoke to me - the way it felt in my hands, the way it sounded, I knew it was mine! It been great. I've heard some of the less expensive ones don't hold their tune. This one has. I find that I play about 30-60 minutes a day and need to tune it every 4th or 5th day now. And it's usually C that is out.

Excellent comparison video and I'm so glad you played them all. I may end up selecting the same favorite (Lanikai Tenor). It sounds so much nicer than the soprano I'm learning on. One day I'll get a concert size but the tenor will be the largest for me. Had I known what I know now I probably would have began with a concert size. It's okay though, I'm making nice memories with my Luna Soprano with the beautiful turtle etching. 👍🤗

The concert is usually the safest size for someone who is new to playing a string instrument. If you play guitar, you might like the fit of the tenor size. It’s much smaller than a guitar, but has wide enough frets :)

Hello Bernadette! I have only been playing ukulele for about a week but so far I love it and have watched a LOT of your videos. They have helped me so much, thank you! I have watched your videos about the different brands but there are a few you haven’t mentioned that I was curious about. I see that fender, Ibanez, Martin and other popular guitar brands make ukuleles and I wasn’t sure if they were any good. I would assume they are because of the name that’s on them but thought maybe since they specialize in guitars maybe their ukuleles weren’t as nice as other ukulele brands.
I purchased a cine hricane concert ukulele from Amazon and I was wondering if you had any input on that brand either? I can’t really find any reviews on it. Thank you for your time!

Hello Bernadette, I am new to your channel. Two of my kids and me are learning how to play uke and I am so happy I found your videos. We are doing your 30 day challenge. I have been borrowing uke's at my local library they have Hola music and now is time to buy our own. I have the Lanikai Kohala Soprano Ukulele KOGS. It is working great for the kids. Now for me I would like a concert and I am debating between the Cordoba 15CM Concert Ukulele, Kala MK-C Makala Concert Ukulele, Lanikai LU22CGC Concert Ukulele Natural, or Lanikai LU-21C Concert Ukulele. What do you recommend? and maybe on the future a Tenor for my husband. What are your thoughts? Thank you so much for your videos.

Hi Bernadette, thank you for your videos - they're enjoyable, informative, and entertaining. My question: can you recommend any ukuleles with pickups for each of the four sizes? Like most people I started on a Soprano, but I'm seriously thinking of getting either a Concert or a Tenor. Any ideas on microphones and amplifiers? All this is for my enjoyment and perhaps a few people brave enough to listen to me. At 57 years of age, I do not see myself going "solo" and earning a living from it. Once again thank you, and I wish every success. Raymond

    • @BernadetteTeachesMusic
      @BernadetteTeachesMusic  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hi Raymond! I LOVE that you're getting so into the ukulele! It's addicting, isn't it?
Well, one of my friends who is 70 years old is learning the ukulele and he really liked the tenor size because the frets were larger and it was more comfortable to hold.
He bought the Enya, which was featured in this video th-cam.com/video/x26kEViZ_7w/w-d-xo.html
He really likes that it comes with strap buttons and he wears a strap every time he plays.
As far as amplifiers go, I actually have never amplified my ukes with my own equipment! I always used the microphones that I borrowed from friends! Last time my students performed, we had the "sure" instrument microphones and yamaha amplifiers for them.
And if you're shy about performing for others in person, maybe start a TH-cam channel! Several people in this community have started TH-cam channels and share their videos with family and with me! It's a lot of fun to watch :) you can see one of them here

I am having an ukulele crisis, hope you could give me an opinion. I would like to ask if laminated ukuleles are THAT different from the solid ones. I am really into a ukulele with acacia laminated wood and indian rosewood freatboard. The brand has the exact same model in solid wood, but is a lot more expensive, of course. The thing is that I live in a rather humid place, sometimes humidity goes up to 80%. Another thing is that the brand, apparently an US one, has no review in english or webpage. I could only found many reviews on chinese webpages from different users and charts saying that they produced great ukuleles. The brand is Gorilla, I don't know if you'd heard of them...

Bernadette, Please I would like your opinion of Enya, any tenor. I was inspired to teach myself the ukulele when I got my grandmother's vintage Martin out of my closet about 12 months ago. My preference is tenor. Warm, rich, tone. I was wondering what you think about the Luna High Tide, and the Enya. I like strap buttons, and visually stunning if possible.

Hi Kelly! I absolutely love my Enya X1 tenor ukulele :)
I don't have a Luna ukulele because I have heard really mixed reviews about them. Enya X1 definitely has strap buttons and a slotted headstock, which I find looks BEAUTIFUL. There's a link to it right under this video in the description box so you can check it out!

True. I have a cheap one I got in Hawaii in a gift shop when I was seven. It does the job as a practice, but it’s pretty bad. Instead of begging my parents for one, I want to buy it all by myself.
But I need to actually work towards getting my license and a job so I can actually buy it. If I work my way towards it, it’ll feel much more prized and valuable to me.

Wow you covered a lot of sound there :-) but no Kala Blue? I love the Kiwi Uke. Personally I wouldn't go above Concert. I like the fact it's small and cute but bigger than Soprano and a deeper fuller sound than a Soprano. Loved your video, thank you.

Since the tuning, and therefore fingering, on the smallest 3 Ukulele's is so differnent than the tuning of the Baritone Uke and also guitar, you still feel it is easier to learn first on one of the 3 smaller Ukes and then move up to a Baritone or a guitar? I ask, as I'd like to learn Uke and then guitar, but don't know either and I've wondered if I'd just confuse myself by learning the chord fingering first for the smaller Ukes. But I do suspect just dealing with the smaller Uke sizes to begin with getting used to holding a stringed instrument, and also to learn strumming patterns and picking patterns could be easier on the smaller Ukes and then transferred to a guitar. I appreciate any advice you have on this.
