Well, well, well Look who it is 😎 Lei, so good to see you active again. As you know I find your video topics fascinating so thorough and insightful. I had a quick question regarding the stimulation of spring spawning. I’ve always thought that one of the triggers for spawning behaviour was that change in water temperature from winter temps to spring temperatures and of course for the fall spawn the change from late summer to fall water temperatures. Those deltas in temperature are readily achieved by nature as the season change great if your set up is outside or is a an artificial or natural pond. What does the research/data indicate are the minimum deltas required for triggering initiation of spawning behaviour, ovulation and having a successful spawning for indoor setup? From what I understand it can be tricky to achieve even for seasoned fish keepers and is complicated by other factors such as breed of fish and where parent fish were spawned and raised? This line of thought also had me thinking that breeding fish in subtropical areas such as Thailand, India and areas China or even Florida has to be a challenge when the key biological trigger for reproduction is that “seasonal” delta in temperature when everyday is a sunny and swelteringly humid mid to high 30C? Do the breeders induce spawning by manipulating the pond/pool temperatures in some fashion or have they found ingenious and top secret technique to get these critters to start thinking about love? Again, so thankful for your return to the TH-cam-verse and it is, as always, super fun to talk with you again. Be well my friend and I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas season.
Hi Lei, it's a pleasure to see you again and hear your accurate report on water temperatures affecting fish. Having lived and worked in Thailand for many years, I remember well the seasonality and temperatures in that country and the many intensive outdoor tropical fish farms. Thank you for this study and report. Happy Sunday.
hey, welcome back !!! great to see new videos coming out! The information you're giving is amazing. will u be doing a beginner guide soon? thank u so much!
Thank you my friend. Yep, it has been a while. I don't have it on my plan. I feel there are so many existing instruction videos on YT talking about the beginner guide. not sure which particular sub topics you are interested
Great info Lei, as a general rule of thumb and to be on the safe side I always heat goldfish with 2 tails. If it's a single tailed fish like Commons, Comets and Shubunkins I wouldn't heat them, unless like you said, I get a fall spawn. I also drastically reduce feeding in the unheated tanks. This is the time of the year when you read a lot of post about people with floating or sinking fish. It was a pleasant surprise to see your post this morning I hope all is well.👍
I have some guppy and my first kull at the bacony with glas windows but i notice it starting to get cold now! This video comes very handy thanks again !
Hi Lei, I live in a place where the average temperature is 30c to 32c. Is it suitable for Ranchu gold fish? We have the majority of Ranchu imported from Thailand.
Hi my Houston fish buddy, glad to see you. Just visited and hit your 🔔. Your goldfish tanks are gorgeous! Keep up your vlogging. I’ like to meet you and visit your fish room one day!
Welcome back Lei 老师! I have success conditioning Thai fish to winter. I live in Houston and our winters are mild. They sleep in the cold no heater for 2 months and I bring them inside to wake up and begin breeding in January.
I have goldfish aquarium out in my back garden as soon as the water drops below 10°C one my of my goldfish develop coning and havent eaten for 2 weeks. Also tested the water ammonia and nitrates are up. You're theory works below 10°C about 4°C. Beneficial bacteria reduce activity and now I introduce a heater and the goldfish became active and having normal behaviour
Question: Will thai fish spawn all year around if kept around 25c? or they still need some temperature drop to stimulate spawning? And how much drop in temp is required? Thanks for the video!
should never heat up water for Goldfish,Or they get very sick,End up dead,Goldfish will live in gold water,Dont need to heat up the water,Hope you dont own any pets if you going to do this
He visto tus vídeos de principio a fin pensando que nunca mas subirías vídeos. Muy buenos consejos y espero que siga con el contenido de Goldfish. Saludos desde Lima Perú.

Typically Thai Goldfish spawn twice a year. Drop temp no lower than 20C should be safe to stimulate the breeding behavior
my ph is 8.2 is too high ? thanks
Too high. While Goldfish will adjust to many pH levels, they do best at a pH of 7 - 7.5
