  • The Royal Dublin Society Annual Registered Irish Draught Stallion Class is an important event for breeders. It is a chance to see many of the Top RID sires at walk and trot and even though it is a show class many spectators will have different views to the judges on the merits of each horse as we all have different ideas about what makes a good sire and what sires suit our mares at the end of the day as breeders we have to sell the progeny of our mares. The number of RID foals being bred has fallen in recent years this is probably due to the fact that breed horses are difficult to sell with colt being particularly problematic while there is always a market for good sports horses. The Dublin Horse Show takes place in Dublin city and is the only horse show to do so. The show attracts large numbers of tourist/visitors from Ireland and all over the world. The Irish Draught Horse is a native Irish Horse they are a light draught horse with athleticism and they can carry weight. They are known for there good temperament and are a nice horse to ride. Some Irish draught horses have competed up to Grand Prix Level at show jumping but it would be fair to say very few draught horses that have competed at this level have been competitive from a speed point of view. But most good draught horses are very competitive at amateur level and can hunt as well as any horse are sure footed across country and are intelligent and bomb proof.
